One of County Council’s key priorities is to ensure residents have access to programs and services that contribute to their wellbeing and quality of life.

We know residents don’t see the boundaries of municipalities; they see the opportunities.

To ensure County residents can enjoy programs and amenities in every corner of the County, Sturgeon County contributes funding to neighbouring municipalities.

The County has intermunicipal recreation agreements in place with Bon Accord, Gibbons, Legal, Morinville, Redwater, St. Albert, and the Canadian Forces Base –Edmonton Garrison. This means County residents pay the same rates and have the same access to regional recreational programs, facilities, and services, regardless of where they live.

Under these agreements, Sturgeon County contributes nearly $3 million a year to help build, maintain, and operate local arenas, ice rinks, pools, skate parks and various recreation facilities.

“These agreements demonstrate the County’s dedication to building a strong, healthy, and engaged community,” said Alanna Hnatiw, Mayor of Sturgeon County. “Collaborating with our neighbours to share recreation resources benefits everyone. We are stronger together.”

Opportunities at CFB Edmonton

The Sturgeon County recreation agreement with CFB Edmonton opens the doors for Sturgeon County residents to enjoy everything the Edmonton Garrison Fitness Centre has to offer, including the following:

> aquatic facility

> climbing wall

> equestrian centre

> fieldhouse

> golf course

> hobby shop

> ice rink

> swimming pool and hot tub

> squash courts

> weights and cardio room

> gym to play basketball, volleyball and more!

“I encourage all residents to get active and take advantage of the free and low-cost amenities and services available to them at the Edmonton Garrison, neighbouring municipalities, and through our parks and trail systems,” said Hnatiw.
