LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRES (LIBRARY) Northern College's Timmins, Kirkland Lake, and Haileybury campuses boast unique, warm, and welcoming Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) where students can make use of a variety of study/learning environments.

Our Timmins campus library overlooks picturesque Porcupine Lake and offers students a sunny place to kick back and read a magazine, do research or study while enjoying a hot coffee or a snack. Full-time library technicians are always on hand to help you with your research, find new teaching resources, and answer copyright and library-related questions. You can complete assignments in our 24-seat computer lab, make use of one of our group study rooms equipped with teleconferencing capabilities or study silently in our quiet study spaces. At the Kirkland Lake campus staff and students can take advantage of the library’s bright, open space where you can sit and enjoy a great read, study for the next test or complete and print your assignments at provided workstations. Haileybury’s newly renovated multi-level library boasts 6 new study carrels for quiet individual study, large tables for group study, and computer access. Our LRCs subscribe to an extensive collection of research databases, streaming videos, over 500,000 eBooks, and research help is available on or off-campus through our virtual reference desk.

TIMMINS RESIDENCE Only steps away from beautiful Porcupine Lake, the Timmins Campus Residence features a large, bright common kitchen with many separate cooking stations, laundry facilities, lounges with cable television and a games room. With 103 single rooms, 12 suites and four double rooms all with private bathrooms, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. Each room includes: private three-piece bathroom, bed, desk, chair, lamp, closet, drawers, and connections for telephone, cable TV and internet for your home away from home. No meal plan required, so you only pay for the food you want with a rechargeable cafeteria card!

RESIDENCE FEES Deposit: $250 - To hold your room, this non-refundable fee is applied (includes activity fee of $100 and registration deposit of $150).

HAILEYBURY RESIDENCE The Haileybury residence is a beautiful, privately owned and operated building, located next to the scenic Rock Wall Park, just steps away from the main College building. This dorm has 16 townhouse style apartments designed with accessibility in mind and can accommodate up to 64 students. Each fully furnished apartment has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and living area as well as laundry facilities and storage. You will enjoy making new friends in your comfortable and well equipped home away from home.

HEALTH Health Care Support Service Worker Program

This 14 week program is delivered virtually. Graduates work in the health and the long-term care sector as a long term care assistant, helping hands, housekeeping, laundry or food service worker.

MINING AND CONSTRUCTION Mining Essentials Program

12-14 week program developed and certified by the Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR). The program is based on essential skills profiles developed by MiHR and the mining industry and is divided between classroom curriculum training and enrichment opportunities such as industry visits, work experience, safety training and environmental education.

Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core Program

10-12 week program covers the knowledge and skills required to work competently as an Underground Hard Rock Miner.

Surface Diamond Driller Assistant Common Core Program 7 week program covers the basic knowledge and skills required to work competently as a helper to a Surface Diamond Drill Operator.

Heavy Equipment Operator Program

This program provides participants with the training and skills necessary to operate a various pieces of Heavy Equipment in an open pit mining environment or on a construction site.

AZ Driver training program

Program provides participants with the training and skills necessary to drive a vehicles requiring a AZ license.

HOSPITALITY Culinary Service and Support Worker Program

16 week program provides participants with the skills necessary to work in the tourism, hospitality, mining, and forestry sectors in areas of housekeeping, food service, laundry and kitchen aid.

Career Excellence in Hospitality

2-week training program includes workshops designed specifically for the hospitality and tourism sector.

Service Support Worker Program

This 12 week program provides participants with the skills necessary to work in the tourism and hospitality sector in areas of housekeeping, food service, and laundry.

Food Service Worker

12 week program is delivered virtually provides pathways to employment in the food industry including the health sector providing valuable training on food safety, preparation and nutrition.

TRADES AND APPRENTICESHIPS Various introductory and/or level 1 apprenticeship programs including carpentry, welding, millwright, and heavy duty equipment technician may be available throughout the year.
