Making Room for the Gospel to Thrive at UVA The CENTER for CHRISTIAN STUDY at the UNIVERSITY of VIRGINIA
Building on a legacy A place of love & truth since 1976 In the most formative years of their adult lives, today’s college students are confronted with a bewildering array of claims regarding the meaning of success, significance, and self in the world. The Center for Christian Study exists to see students formed to Christ, embracing God’s love and truth for themselves and then living and speaking that truth out in the world.
Gather A place on Grounds for Christians to connect for education and fellowship
Equip Resources to encourage growth in the knowledge and love of God
Commune A safe space for questions, reflection, and support while at UVA
“The Lord has planted his flag in remarkable ways at UVA. It would take up too much space to describe how different the University is today than when I first joined the faculty. I give God all the glory - but the Center merits much of the credit as His vehicle.” Kenneth G. Elzinga, Professor of Economics at UVA Making Room

The Center for Christian Study is a home away from home for so many. I suspect many of you may be reading this now because the same was once true for you as a student at UVA. We’ve seen remarkable growth in our ministry since the Study Center was formed almost 50 years ago. As a result, we thank God that we need substantially more space for hospitality, Christian education, and the larger Christian community. We hope to begin construction on a new building expansion in the spring. More than a new building, this expansion means deepening our existing ministries, discovering new, even unanticipated, avenues for outreach, and touching the entire Charlottesville area through Christian education and resources. Will you join us as we seek to complete this campaign by the end of the year?
Bill Wilder Executive Director
Our location at 128 Chancellor Street allows us to serve the UVA community from the heart of Grounds. The Study Center’s prime location at one of the nation’s top universities uniquely equips us to share Christ’s love with the leaders of tomorrow.

The Study Center has been a safe place for me since coming to college - a sort of home away from home. I have had so many friends impacted by the Study Center and knew I wanted to be involved when I came on Grounds. The staff has been so warm and welcoming and has created an environment where I can grow personally, academically, and spiritually. Isabella Flory, 2021-2022 Residential Scholar

We’ve outgrown our home
1976 The Center for Christian Study purchases a 1920s house at 128 Chancellor Street and repurposes rooms for education, small groups, and hospitality.
Following the 1996 renovation, the Study Center’s reach on UVA Grounds multiplies. New ministries and events begin such as Move-In Day Lunch, Exam Snacks, the Residential Scholars program, and Rush Hospitality.

1996 The building expands to accommodate ministry growth. A main meeting room is added as well as a library.
The Lord has graciously expanded the Study Center ministry exponentially since opening our doors in 1976. Quite simply, our ministry has grown beyond the capacity of our current space and the Study Center’s ability to serve UVA students has been limited as a result.
