BHARATRAM FARMHOUSE New Delhi Architecture | Interior Design Client : Sumant Bhalla 21,000 sq ft Ongoing

v

View (v) of the site towards the west as indicated in the plan on the right

Project Brief - Bharatram farm house – house 1 Our client, Mr. Sumant Bharatram, wanted a house that would function as an intimate space for him and his sons and at the same time a social space to entertain their friends. With two young boys (11 and 14), one of the main requirements of the client was for individual hangout spaces for each member of the family. The house is to be built at Rajokri on the outskirts of Delhi, on a 7300 sq m site with an entertainment area and a pool house. This is one of two houses to be built. The plot on the left side is to be developed, with the same requirements. While the two houses are envisioned as future homes for his two sons, the second house will be rented out for the time being. The zoning of the house has been worked out keeping this in mind, hence the party area by the pool side has been tucked behind the first house in the north corner which gives it both visual and acoustic privacy. The site is more or less flat with a thin strip 9 meters wide along the east edge which is raised by 1.8 meters. The house steps up over this strip to accommodate the children's rooms with verandahs opening onto a separate lawn on the east side. These rooms connect with the rest of the house through the double volume family space at the lower level. Effectively the retaining wall for this raised strip of land works as a containing edge for one side of the house and continues through to the back where the space for the lounge and gym are carved into this mass with the greens stretching over it. The concept of the house lies in the spatial divisions created by what is built on the plot . The idea is to flow through a series of courtyards or gardens having varying scales, privacy and textures - shaped by the positioning of the building and its fitting functions. The prime spaces must open onto the south with a verandah to bring in the deep winter sun.

Programmatic requirements House Formal living (+dining)+lobby 720 +450+130 1300sqft Family room 950sqft Master bedroom 850sqft Children's rooms (2) 750sqft Guest room 550sqft Entertainment room 600sqft Kitchen 500sqft Utility 400sqft
