Education and Conservation

The Aquarium of the Pacific is committed to bringing premier free-choice learning opportunities to all members of our community. The Aquarium attracts 1.35 million annual visitors. Our education program serves over 250,000 students and teachers each year through either an on-site classroom experience or our mobile outreach program, the Aquarium on Wheels. To further our contribution to the understanding and conservation of our oceans, the Aquarium created the Marine Conservation Research Institute (MCRI).

MCRI’s goal is to expand and enhance the body of scientific knowledge relating to the Pacific Ocean through research, conservation, and education focused around the Aquarium of the Pacific.

The Aquarium hosts prominent scientists and conservationists who come to discuss issues ranging from wetland preservation to climate change. Guest lectures have included Dr. John Marburger, the President’s Science Advisor; Dr. Jared Diamond, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, Guns, Germs, and Steel and professor of geography at UCLA ; and Dr. James J. McCarthy, Harvard Professor and head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Working Group II. Additionally, the Aquarium has developed partnerships with conservation leaders and organizations, such as the National Marine Sanctuaries, World Wildlife Fund, and NASA. As a Pacific Circle member, you will receive invitations to all of these events, including exclusive receptions with the guest speakers.

Without the support of Pacific Circle members like you, these initiatives would not be possible. As a Pacific Circle donor, you enable the Aquarium to increase our position as a nationally recognized organization and further our mission “to instill a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean, its inhabitants, and ecosystems.”
