“Monographic Masters at Frankfurt” is a summary catalog of personal publications made by artists curated by Studio Byblos from September 2017 to August 2018. It is both an advance and an invitation to the in-depth reading these publications, which can be found free of charge on ISSUU, in digital format, and also in printed format in every bookshop in the world. On “Monographic Masters at Frankfurt” two pages have been dedicated to each artist, with two important published works, the presentation of the critic Dino Marasà and the addresses. The reading of these publications surely will open up new horizons to the reader and will introduce artists who are true masters of contemporary art.

Esso è sia anticipo sia invito alla lettura approfondita delle suddette pubblicazioni, reperibili tutte gratuitamente, in formato digitale e anche cartaceo in ogni libreria del mondo. Su “Monographic Masters at Frankfurt” ad ogni artista sono state dedicate due pagine, con due opere significative, la presentazione del critico Dino Marasà e i recapiti. Sono sicuro che la lettura di tali pubblicazioni aprirà al lettore nuovi orizzonti e farà conoscere artisti che sono veri e propri Maestri dell’Arte Contemporanea.

Cresciuti a casa del Talento nel quartiere delle Creatività nella città della Suggestione. Dal dialogo tra disegno e musica viene fuori un’alchimia di immagini colori e segni, che ritroviamo nella serie di opere d’arte “Music in picture”, dell’artista Marta Melniczuk. Le parole pittoriche che sentiamo con gli occhi sono dirette al nostro istinto, per capirle e conoscerne il significato dobbiamo sentirle più volte. Così facendo siamo capaci di raccogliere l’essenza più intima di un discorso che è senza tempo ed è testimone di un legame indissolubile tra due vecchie conoscenza che diventano all’improvviso familiari come nostri vecchi amici.

he expressive power of the art of ideographic writing is something that the Western world does not understand well. We are too tight in our alphabet.

Although it’s precious and sharp it has now forgotten the artistic nuances that imposes the ideogram. With Ping He we are ahead of a rebirth and reworking of the same concept of ideogram that becomes a chromatic interpreter of itself. An art that fascinates us, because it is veiled by an

intriguing mystery, capable to enclose the meanders of human thought and soul sensations in powerful signs in their color, in their thickness and conformation. With Ping He opens a new world, a window on the far east, where humanity has started an alternative path to western civilisation, equally valid and worthy of study and deepening to better understand the multiple capabilities of human thought.

a potenza espressiva dell’arte della scrittura ideografica è qualcosa che il mondo occidentale non comprende bene. Siamo troppo stretti nel nostro alfabeto. Benché prezioso e preciso ha ormai dimenticato le sfumature artistiche che impone l’ideogramma.

Con Ping He ci troviamo davanti ad una rinascita e rielaborazione del concetto stesso di ideogramma che diventa interprete cromatico di se stesso. he sculptural works of Bernarda Visentini ideally belong to all of us more, perhaps, than any other sculptural work ever made.

Their hieratic stasis echoes the dark millennia in which man, like a child lost in the world, celebrated his fate and his actions with the stone, making it an anthropomorphic witness to the fears, hopes, religion, life and culture. Mrs. Visentini perceives dormant energies, still living in the places where our ancestors dwelt and built temples, sacred places and solemn residences. Her soul absorbs these energies and after she gives them to the sculptural material that acquires the same suggestive value, creating evocative perfection.

Mrs. Visentini looks before the civilisation codified by writing, overthrows the pantheon known to us to arrive at the “Big Mothers” chthonic that often identify with the nature itself, creator, destructor and vehicle towards the inexorable end of human life. The “science” of the child man becomes familiar to us, perceivable and it relives in every line or object carved by the Mrs. Visentini. A “science” of the dawn when our ancestors realised that the stars could not be touched even climbing the highest mountains, they admired the cosmos with supreme respect for the harmony present in all. e opere scultoree di Bernarda Visentini appartengono idealmente a tutti noi più, forse, di ogni altra opera scultorea mai realizzata. La loro ieratica stasi echeggia i millenni oscuri in cui l’uomo, come un bambino disperso nel mondo, celebrava la sua sorte e le sue azioni con la pietra, rendendola antropomorfa testimone delle paure, delle speranze, della religione, della vita e della cultura. La Visentini percepisce energie sopite, residenti ancora nei luoghi dove i nostri antenati dimoravano e costruivano templi, luoghi sacri e residenze solenni. Il suo animo assorbe queste energie e dopo le regala al materiale scultoreo che acquisisce lo stesso valore suggestivo, creando perfezione evocativa. La Visentini guarda prima della civiltà codificata dalla scrittura, sconfina oltre i pantheon a noi noti per approdare verso le “Grandi Madri” ctonie che sovente si identificano con la Natura stessa creatrice, distruttrice e veicolo verso l’inesorabile fine della vita umana. La “scienza” dell’uomo bambino diviene a noi familiare, percepibile e rivive in ogni linea od oggetto scolpito dalla Visentini. Una “scienza” degli albori quando i nostri antenati accortisi che le stelle non si potevano toccare neanche salendo sulle più alte montagne, ammiravano il cosmo con sommo rispetto verso l’armonia presente in tutto. Dovremmo noi moderni prendere esempio da loro nel nostro quotidiano vivere, pensare e scoprire.

Abbiamo una sola casa che ci può ospitare. Altrimenti le stelle rimarranno sempre lontani puntini luminosi.

he rethinking the vision of reality and of the concept itself of third dimension is the cornerstone of the pictorial expression of Fabio Castagna. In his works the geometric structure of each single form is highlighted with colours and also the interweaving of intersections that are determined offering an alternative vision of the same reality. Therefore Fabio Castagna reveals to us a dimension contained between the second and the third, an unknown but not inscrutable cosmos, brilliant in its being, dynamic in its continuous evolution.

ipensare la visione della realtà e del concetto stesso di terza dimensione è il cardine dell’ espressione pittorica di Fabio Castagna. Nelle sue opere viene posta in evidenza la struttura geometrica di ogni singola forma evidenziando con colori l’intreccio di intersezioni che si vengono a determinare per offrire una visione alternativa della stessa realtà. Pertanto Fabio Castagna ci svela una dimensione contenuta tra la seconda e la terza, un cosmo sconosciuto ma non imperscrutabile, geniale nel suo essere, dinamico nel suo continuo divenire.

resenting to the reader Mario Salvo, the Master of Stratigraphic Spatula, is a pleasant and well-accepted undertaking.

Mario Salvo, lives in Rome, but he has Sicilian origins, to the precision of a town in the province of Syracuse, he is son and nephew of artists. The confidence with the colours and the familiarity with the sign are innate qualities. They are engraved in the DNA by firm, stable, clear typefaces. Mario does not use the brush but the spatula, with all the pleasant complications it involves. Oh yeah! because it’s different to paint with the brush, distributing the color on the canvas from to spread the colour in layers on the support, bending the chromatic material to his narrative wishes. So that thicknesses equal to fractions of a millimetre contribute to form the nuance, the structure of the chromaticism that strengthens and becomes valid to be the bearer of the visual message intended for the viewer. The sign is born spontaneously from the chromatic alchemy, it transforms itself in outline but not in limit and flowing into the represented scene. This one comes from the personal experience of the Master, from his memories and becomes a synthesis of the world itself and of the ecumene, in the original meaning of the term. Mario's painting is not only synthesis but apocope, recorded on the support, of the emotion dictated by the represented. A rich in physicality apocope which only the spatula can give because anyone can touch with hands the thickness of the coated color, can palpate the vibrations and can discern with the fingers the emotional facets of the painter. It’s not just a vision but also a tactile experience that refers to sculpture. The reader shall try. Just look at the details of the works widely represented in this book. Magic?

Who can say? Certainly it is love for art and for creating art enriched by the dedication and perfect control of the tools as inventor of the”Stratigraphic Spatula”. Demiurge, Mario, he is builder of emotions rich in energy and deduced from the represented. I happened to see him at work during an impromptu: I watched his hand that led, dominating, the spatula pointing to every corner of the support where to spread the color. Mario, with a sure and enchanted look together, gave the support the honour of becoming true art, adorning it with the correct material density. To better enjoy one of his artworks, one must observe in silence every corner and every

detail of the artwork, approaching the chromatic spread, admiring layer by layer the color, tasting the chromatic mixture in every nuance and variation of density and its amalgamation with light radiation. Mario Salvo has great confidence with the visible light spectrum, he quantifies the wavelength by instinct, and at the same time calculates the sign balance that supports the plot of the pictorial story. His art is therefore also physical science, not just creative inspiration or expression of sensitivity. Witness is his didactic capacity and the love for the knowledge of the technique that he transfers to his students as a true master of temple-shop and forge of ideas that become images. Rothko, a painter with a shrieking silence, left the expression of the restlessness of his soul and the travail of his spirit and his intellect. Mario, painter narrator of the world, leaves the spatula the task of giving material thickness to the emotional chorality that flows from his soul. A lesson of elegance, of fascinating virtue, of a real savoir faire.

resentare al lettore Mario Salvo, il Maestro di Spatola Stratigrafica, è impresa piacevole e gradita. Mario Salvo, romano, ma di siciliane origini, per la precisione di una cittadina in provincia di Siracusa, nasce figlio e nipote d’arte. La confidenza con i colori e la dimestichezza con il segno sono qualità innate, dunque, incise nel DNA a caratteri saldi, stabili, chiari. Non usa Mario il pennello ma la spatola, con tutte le piacevoli complicazioni che essa comporta. Eh si! perché un conto è dipingere con il pennello, distribuendo il colore sulla tela un conto e spargerlo a strati sul supporto, piegando la materia cromatica ai propri voleri narrativi. Sicché spessori pari a frazioni di millimetro concorrono a formare la sfumatura, l’ossatura del cromatismo che si irrobustisce e si rende valida per essere latrice del messaggio visivo destinato allo spettatore. Il segno nasce spontaneamente dall’alchimia cromatica, trasformandosi in contorno ma non limite confluendo nella scena rappresentata. Quest’ultima nasce dall’esperienza personale del Maestro, dai suoi ricordi e diviene sintesi del mondo stesso e dell’ecumene, nel significato originario del termine. La pittura di Mario non è solo sintesi ma apocope, registrata sul supporto,

dell’ emozione dettata dal rappresentato. Un’ apocope ricca di fisicità che solo la spatola può dare perché chiunque può toccare con mano lo spessore del colore spalmato, palparne le vibrazioni e discernere con le dita le sfaccettature emotive del pittore. Non dunque solo visione ma anche esperienza tattile che rimanda alla scultura.

Il lettore provi. Basta osservare i particolari delle opere ampiamente rappresentati nel presente libro. Magia? Chi lo può dire? Di sicuro è amore per l’arte e per il creare arte arricchiti dalla dedizione e dal controllo perfetto dei ferri del mestiere dell’ inventore della “Spatola Stratigrafica”. Demiurgo, Mario, costruttore di emozioni ricche di energia propria e dedotta dal rappresentato. Mi è capitato di vederlo all’opera durante un estemporanea: osservavo la sua mano che conduceva, dominandola, la spatola indicandole ogni angolo del supporto dove stendere il colore. Mario, dallo sguardo sicuro e incantato assieme, regalava al supporto l’onore di diventare vera arte, ornandolo della corretta densità materica. Per meglio fruire una sua opera d’arte, bisogna osservare in silenzio ogni angolo e ogni particolare della stessa, avvicinarsi alla stesura cromatica, ammirare strato per strato il colore, assaporare la mistura cromatica in ogni sua sfumatura e variazione di densità e il suo amalgamarsi

con la radiazione luminosa. Mario Salvo ha una grande confidenza con lo spettro della luce visibile, ne quantifica la lunghezza d’onda per istinto, e allo stesso tempo calcola l’equilibrio segnico che supporta la trama del racconto pittorico. La sua arte è dunque anche scienza fisica, non soltanto estro creativo o espressione della sensibilità. Testimone è la sua capacità didascalica e l’amore per la conoscenza della tecnica che trasferisce ai suoi allievi da vero maestro di bottega-tempio e fucina di idee che divengono immagine. Rothko, pittore dal silenzio urlante, lasciava alla spatola l’espressione dell’inquietudine della sua anima e del travaglio del suo spirito e del suo intelletto. Mario, pittore narratore del mondo, lascia alla spatola il compito di dare spessore materico alla coralità emotiva che sgorga dalla sua anima. Una lezione d’eleganza, di fascinosa virtù, di savoir faire non a parole ma a fatti d’arte.
