GOALS
Each board has a policy which they use as a guideline during the year. This board focusses on the inclusivity of the association by e.g. setting up a buddysystem for international students or making it possible for exchange students to stay active. Furthermore, they want to make sure that the educational offer for CSAI and DSS students is similar to what is offered to CIS students. Besides their policy, they look forward to Flow’s first ski trip this January. As general goals all five named things like “being open”, “welcoming everyone” and “having fun”.
Dore wants to get to know a lot of people and make more friends.
Alieke wants to become more secure about her decisions.
Anne was commissioner of the Informal Activitities Committee last year and wants to make the switch to formal and professional.
Fenna wants to learn the seccy skills, socializing and forgetting less small things.
Ivo wants to learn how to engage in small talk.
Who matches who... Everyone has cute baby pictures, can you figure out which photo matches which board member?
5
What would you do if... ...a fire breaks out in the Flow Office. What do you do and what will save you first? Dore: “First, I will curse the maker of the microwave popcorn in E. And after that, I’ll try to get everyone out safely. The things I would like to bring are the photoframes with all the active members. Fenna: “Uhm… I would swear the whole time. I would probably take the most unimportant things with me because of the panic. So, I would take stuff like the party hats. And maybe I would take all my food from my shelf. Then I would run into the corridor and jump down the balcony. And probably break everything.” Alieke: “I would probably take my own phone first, I’m sorry haha! Of course, I will save the other people that are in the Flow Office. And if I have time left, I will also take the treasurer folders with me. They are kind of very important.” Ivo: “I will turn off the computers and get Flow’s hard drive disks! And run downstairs ofcourse. Anne: “All the members have to go out first, because as a captain you have to stay untill the end. The things I’ll take with me are: food from my box and the contract map.
Flow Dilemma! You will always have to wear Flow underpants above your regular clothes... 6 6
OR
You can never wear Flow merch again...
All board members chose the underpants-option, except for Dore... Anne said it would probably not be the best for meetings with partners, but she’d do it anyways.
Who’s most likely to... …forget the Flow camera during an activity? Alieke was the only one who wasn’t named, and they said Dore twice.
The board had to rank themselves for the following questions. …set the Flow Office on fire? Everyone chose Anne, oops... But they all said she’d do it by accident. …have a huge hangover during an early meeting? Three board members chose Fenna, one Ivo and one Anne.
…arrives first at an activity? One said Alieke, two Dore and two Fenna. …safely bring a Flow member home after a drink? Everyone voted for Alieke, cute!
Awkward Confessions! To get to know the new board, we asked them about their most awkward stories. Match the story to the board member! “My brother sent the previous board one of my most embarassing videos to show at the announcement drink: me dancing with my cat Flip on the song ‘Leef’ from André Hazes.” “I once did an audition for Holland’s Got Talent when I was a little girl. But I forgot the dance and then I fell on the ground...” “When I was in primary school, my favorite pair of socks had a hole in them. I decided to start a trend, so I cut off the top of the socks and started wearing them as ‘polswarmers’ (arm gloves). Unfortunately, I was the only one who liked it...” “At the age of three, I yelled at every girl in a buggy ‘Hee meissie, wat ben jij een lekker ding’ (hey girl, you’re a hottie), because I once heard a man doing that...” “I work at a restaurant, and once two parents started asking me questions about my love life and whether I was single or not. When I told them I was single, they started telling me about their son. The next day, their son texted me and asked me out! Of course, I didn’t go on a date with him. Two weeks later his parents were in the restaurant again, but I didn’t serve them, haha!”
Grandma’s Pepper Dolma Who says that a typical Turkish dish can’t be without any meat? Turkish cuisine is well known for its stuffed and wrapped vegetable dishes called dolma and sarma. Today’s particular dish of Turkish stuffed peppers is known as biber dolması (beeBEYR’ dole-MAH’-suh) and is one of the most popular. These are easier to make than other stuffed and wrapped dishes as the peppers don’t need much preparation. Just remove the stems with your thumb and they’re ready for stuffing. Serves as a main course with 12 servings | Ready in about one hour | Easy to make, yummy to eat! | Vegan
Ingredients
12 small green peppers (with thin skins, suitable for stuffing) 1 large onion (finely diced) 1/2 cup/100 milliliters olive oil 2 cups/400 grams white rice (short-grain) 3/2 teaspoons salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 2 teaspoons red pepper 3 teaspoons mint 2 teaspoons allspice 1 lemon (juiced) 2 cups/450 milliliters water (boiled) 1 medium tomato (grated) 1 small tomato (cut into flat squares, for garnish)
8
Preparation 1. Wash your peppers and remove the stems by pressing your thumb gently down on the base of the stem. This will cause the stem and base to cave inside the pepper, leaving a perfect hole on top for stuffing. 2. Clean out any seeds and white membranes from the insides of the peppers and set them aside. 3. Put a shallow pan on a medium flame and fry the onions in the olive oil until they are soft and reduced. 4. Add the salt, black pepper, red pepper, mint and allspice and mix well. 5. Stir in the lemon juice and the grated tomato. 6. Add the rice and let it fry a bit. 7. Stir in the boiled water. Cover and simmer over low heat until the water is almost absorbed. 8. Once your filling cools down enough to handle, arrange the empty peppers side-by-side in the bottom of a saucepan. Make sure there is no empty space left between the peppers; if there is, arrange the peppers in a smaller pan so they support each other and stand upright.
9. With a dessert spoon, fill each pepper with the rice mixture until it reaches the top. Don’t pack the filling down or overfill your peppers. The rice will need enough room to expand while it cooks. 10. Once you’ve filled the peppers, cover the opening of each with a square of tomato, skin side up. Add enough water to the pan to reach halfway up the peppers. Drizzle about two tablespoons of olive oil over the peppers and add some extra salt to the water. 11. Bring the pan to a gentle boil, then immediately reduce the heat to low. Let the peppers simmer gently with the cover on until most of the water is absorbed. 12. Remove the pan from the heat and let it continue to steam until it cools to room temperature. If too much condensation forms on the lid, cover the pan with paper towels and close the lid over them, letting the peppers continue to steam. 13. When the peppers are cool, they will become firmer and easy to remove from the pan. Remove each one gently with your fingers being careful not to damage it.
Afiyet olsun!

I want to be a Stresschick Stresskip Literal translation: Stresschicken. Definition: Someone who is not very good at handling stress. Stresskuiken Literal translation: Stresschick. Definition: A little Stresskip.
At January 1st it is very normal to have some New Years resolutions. They are always kind of the same: I want to work out more, eat better and healthier, and stop with a bad habit. Every year at the beginning of the new school or academic year I also make some resolutions. In the past few years they were the same: I want to focus in EVERY lecture, I will read the specified chapters before class, and start on time with studying for exams, et cetera. Spoiler alert: these resolutions never lasted very long, most years they were gone and forgotten by the second week of the year. This year I decided to not have the same resolutions as every year. I started thinking about what I really want and need. I’m the definition of a ‘stresskip’, I will stress about every small inconvenience, I will even stress about stuff that is not worth to be stressing about. So many people told me before that I should do something about that. That’s my ‘New Academic Year Resolution’ number 1: Try to stress less. The 'try’-part has been added for a reason. I know that I will never study without any stress. I just want it to be less. Why? That brings me to my second resolution. ‘Old’ people, or just people who are already working, say often that their time in college or at university was the best time in their life. And I agree, studying is fantastic. For the new students: you will meet so many great new friends, you will have so much fun even though some lectures are really boring, and you will probably learn a lot of interesting things. I want to enjoy my time at university more, and it is easier to enjoy this beautiful time without stress. So, besides the ‘try to stress less’, I will also ‘try to enjoy everything more’. Again the ‘try’-part is added otherwise I will be stressing about my resolution and that is bad for resolution number 1. This year my goal is to keep these two resolutions for longer than one week. Hopefully, at the end of the year, I won’t be the Stresskip anymore, or at least I will be just a Stresskuiken. Once my grandma told me: “Good enough is also enough”. Only she said it in Dutch, of course. And that is my mine point: enjoy the coming year at your study, do well at your exams, but don’t be a Stresskip too much. - Irma 11
Creative Minds Think Alike A company specialized in creating online content campaigns and applications for big companies like RTL, KLM, McDonalds, Qmusic and Coca Cola ånd with their headquarters based in the city center of Tilburg‌ LiveWall was definitely a company which was on our bucket list to visit. Together with Kyra Peerlings (lead content) of LiveWall we had an interesting conversation about the position of this company in the world of digital media and communication. LiveWall is a digital and creative agency which combines creativity, development and content into one. The company can be devided into three main disciplines: LiveWall Tech, LiveWall Studios and products which LiveWall has in their own management. A couple of years ago, LiveWall was founded as a result of a few beers on the fair of Tilburg. Creative mind Frits and developer Eelco came up with an idea for a tool in which social media posts with the same hashtag would be collected onto one page. This tool turned out to be a big success and big companies were interested. Eventually, LiveWall expanded and started to design complete campaigns, websites and applications. When LiveWall was requested to arrange promotions for these new products, the content branche of LiveWall came to life. The headquarters of LiveWall can be found in Tilburg. The 75 employees are divided over three floors. Next to the office in Tilburg there are two smaller locations in Belgium and Amsterdam. When we asked about the marketing and communication team, we found out that LiveWall does not have a core task on social media. Usually there are some people from different departments who are enthusiastic to take the social media part upon them. However, in busy times LiveWall’s own social media is a little bit under pressure. That is simply because of the commercial nature of LiveWall. It is a strategic choice to work harder on projects of customers than
12
on their own social media. Of course this is a pity, Kyra acknowledges, because their own social media is kind of like their business card. However, since about 1 month there is a marketing team (Project V) which is built to focus also on the social media of LiveWall. LiveWall is not only active on a national scale, but also has professional ties with Belgium, Great Britain and the United States of America. Working with different countries and cultures requires awareness of the differences compared to working in the Netherlands. Even though there are some cultural differences, these issues are usually well managed. The biggest problem they face is time difference.
KYRA’S ADVICE In the field of communication and marketing, changes are constantly taking place and they are taking place very fast. It is very useful, not only for now, but also for your future career, to monitor these changes and respond to them.
LiveWall sets itself apart from the competition in their field because they combine everything in one company. They do every part of the process by themself: from a simple concept to actually executing the project. Furthermore, LiveWall is unique in a sense that the company is small scaled and the atmosphere is relaxed. This corporate culture is also what makes LiveWall interesting to their customers. Customers from the busy west of the country, for example, mentioned that they liked the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. That is why the basis of LiveWall should also be in Tilburg, according to Kyra. Of course, it turns out that time management is not only a challenge for students, but also in the professional field. That is because everyone is dependent on each other and besides multiple projects are usually running at the same time. This means when one customer shifts something in their planning, the complete time schedule of LiveWall is affected as well. However, problems are there to be solved and the flexible, young team of LiveWall likes to be challenged and finds the best possible solutions.

The Five Birthday, Valentines Day or Christmas Eve? We come across many occasions where we want to find the “perfect gift” for our loved ones. The five tips to become an expert gift giver from the inFlow Committee are here to the rescue! Know your options A “gift” can come in many shapes and sizes. Opt for a couple of small ones instead of one big present. Or, if you know that someone has been wanting to get their hands on something – perhaps more so on the pricier side – for a while now, you can talk to the other people that want to get a gift for them and essentially crowdfund (a part of) it. Chances are that those people were just as lost about what to get as a gift.
1
2
Make it “useful” Some gifts, while exciting in first glance, end up being tossed away somewhere in a short amount of time. People often think about what that other person might like or want, but not what they actually need and can make use of. Especially for someone you don’t know that well, a pretty mug, for example, can be nice as well as practical. When in doubt, opt for what is useful.
3
Make it personal Whether it is the gift itself or a handmade addition to what you bought, try and make it meaningful. Incorporating inside jokes, common interests or even a little thing they mentioned in a conversation into your gift can go a long way. As a rule of thumb, you can make a habit of adding a handwritten note. Just let people know how you feel, what you appreciate about them and what made you get that gift for them.
4
Presentation matters You definitely don’t have to go over the top with your packaging. However, little things like a card or a note with a doodle on it can immediately show that you put more thought in your gift. “Presentation” also includes how you give the gift. What you say or do, as well as how, can make a big difference. If you know that that person enjoys it, you could try adding the element of surprise to your gift giving.
5
Don’t overthink it In the end, the “perfect gift” for those people is that they have someone in their lives that is willing to put in the effort to make them happy. Whatever you decide to get as a gift is merely a tool for it. Trust your gut and go with whichever option feels right. After all, you know the person better than any “guide” telling you how the most amazing gift should be.
Playground Junky My mind is turned off. I do not think of anything. It’s just me, totally relaxed and eyes closed. I only feel a soft breeze that makes me shiver a bit. My hair is dancing around my head, the hot sun on my skin. All I hear is the flock of little birds happily whistling in the trees. Little kids who are playing together and having fun. Parents drinking their coffee. Fresh mowed grass, colorful flowers… It smells like summer. I open my eyes and see the clouds making figures in the air. Every few seconds I see my white sneakers in front of me. They match really well with the color of the clouds. I stretch my legs and fly to the sky again. When I am moving back, I am making myself ready for the final jump. I let go of the chains I am holding and jump off the swing. It is so nice, sitting on a swing for a while. Okay, let’s stop now with this sappy stuff. Although I did nail the soft and flexible landing (I am sure my former P.E. teacher is proud of me), I will highlight the fact that sitting on and jumping off a swing is super chill. And not only using a swing, but also a slide, dandle board and not to forget: the horizontal bar. I frankly admit, I am a playground junky. In the good old days a trip to a playground was one to never forget. And that has not changed for me. And to add, nowadays playgrounds have even bigger, weirder, and funnier things. From nice and strange trampoline-like things to the in Rosmalen notorious “Koninginnenschommels”; I notice a really positive progress in playgrounds. And if you do not believe me: hup, go to the nearest playground. You will experience it yourself! - Marlou

In this new section of the Flowzine the creators behind your favorite magazine will share something about themselves by means of answering a central question. For this last edition by the current inFlow Committee we will look back to our favorite holiday destination once more to look at back at summer times. The question for this time:
What is your favorite holiday destination?
I really really really like to get to know new places I have never been before (I recommend trips with srps.me for everyone who likes this too!). So it is really hard to decide one favorite holiday destination. I have so many destinations on my bucket list; Canada, Greenland, and Iceland are my top 3 now. However, to name one holiday that I enjoyed a lot was this summer; a roadtrip through West America. I visited places like San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. That was amazing, even as the different kinds of nature we do not know here in the Netherlands. Desserts, big waterfalls, canyons‌ it was a really great experience.
20
This is a very hard question… I can’t choose, so I will give you the top 2. In the summer of 2017, I’ve been to Ghana. I was absolutely amazing, and I’ve seen some very interesting cultural differences and beautiful nature, and I met the nicest people. But it was also a very intense trip, because I really learnt a lot about myself and about how privileged we are in the Netherlands. My other favorite destination is Dublin, Ireland. This was my first solo trip and on beforehand I didn’t even know that I was going to Dublin, I found out at the airport. I really liked going on a trip by myself and it is a very beautiful and fun city! Irish people are nice and helpful and also very funny. Also, they have an amazing accent. I really recommend everyone to go to Dublin!
Instead of naming a specific city, I will go ahead and say that my favorite place to be (especially during the holiday) is by the sea. I love being surrounded by nature in general: watching the view of the mountains covered with seemingly endless forests while listening to music is my favorite thing to do on a road trip. However, my happy place is by far the water. I can just stay in it for hours on
end swimming or gladly spend the day reading my book at the beach with the beautiful sound of the waves in the background. I guess one specific type of holiday I would mention would be boat holidays. It is a great option for people like me who just can’t get enough of the sea. Destinations like the hidden coves in Turkey and the Greek islands (especially Santorini), for example, were absolutely breathtaking in my opinion.
Last summer I have made a special trip with a friend of mine through Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland. We visited the capitals of all those countries. I fell in love with one city in particular: Tallinn. I just absolutely loved the vibe in this city. The people were the friendliest, there was always something to do and the city has many different sides. The old town for example feels very romantic while the modern part of the city is the place to be for the creative souls among us. I am definitely planning on going back here at least once more!

Easy: ARUBA. Last March, I went there and, oh my g*d. This is an island to remember. My boyfriend Bart and I, landed in the evening after a long and uncomfortable flight. My first footstep on the island felt amazing however. The fresh breeze drifting through my hair. I even forgot that I wore long pants and sleeves. The journey on the island began and I saw beautiful beaches and consumed some very nice cocktails, of course. I felt like I was a completely different person because the island life is very ‘tranquillo’, like we call it nowadays. Multiple times I said: “can’t we stay?”. Unfortunately I didn’t. Leaving at the exact moment when you’d rather stay. It is also my motto at Flow drinks: “go home when you peak”. Well, in Aruba, I did. I still wish to go back and be the island-Eva for a moment again. But lets face the facts. When you come home after a long flight, nothing feels better than your own bed.
My absolute favorite holiday destination is Bologna (Northern Italy). The oldest university of the world (founded in 1088) is located in the city center of this beautiful city. Because of the university, everyone speaks excellent English. The city is also not very touristic, so you can pass the streets easily without annoying street sellers bothering you. But the best part: Italian food and wines. When I was there with my best friend, we had tapas, pasta and really good wine every day. And because it’s a student city, everything is cheap!
This is an easy one for me! I’m completely in love with Italy. The language, the food, the culture... I love it all. I’ve been there several times with family and on school trips, and I’m now learning Italian as well. I’ve always been interested in history and especially in the older Greek and Roman times and myths. However, I’ve never been outside of Europe. This is something that’s very high on my bucket list. Next January might finally be my time to go to South-America, North-America or Asia!

IN RO AV E ER RT T E X TT R Love parties with big groups Often make small talk Don’t mind calling random people
Love staying inside by myself Hate making small talk Have to rehearse every conversation before having it
The music is galling over the speakers, we’re all having a great time and I’m dancing, talking and enjoying myself. But in the midst of a conversation, I’m starting to notice how crowded it is, the people bumping into me and the loudness of the music around me. I start feeling a bit cramped and go outside for a bit. Yep, it’s happened again: my social battery has run out. With everyone defining themselves and putting themselves in boxes lately, I’ve finally found the one I fit in best: I’m an extroverted introvert. Party? Great! Netflixbinge? Also great! As you might remember from our lovely communication studies, people have different identities depending on the social group they’re in. For me, this means that in some groups I’m known as an introvert and I don’t really get to the fore, but in other groups people are surprised with how easy it is for me to make small talk with random people. I think my core will always be introverted. I like spending time alone and sometimes go an entire day without speaking to anyone besides online (oops). However, I’m not a complete introvert as I like spending time with friends and don’t mind things like speaking in public. I’m also pretty sure I’m not the only one that feels like a social chameleon that adjusts to the environment I’m in. To each his own. Oh, and I want to give a shout out to the introverted extraverts, because I know you’re out there as well. - Anneloes
