Your college career officially starts on Friday, Aug. 31 with Welcome Days – five days full of events, activities and endless opportunities for involvement. Please note what group you are in below and follow your group's schedule throughout the weekend.

Center. On the first floor, stop by Scooter’s for some food and the chance to play some hilarious “In It to Win It Games” for prizes. There will be plenty of delicious appetizers and ice cream treats to go with the fun. Also, make sure to find Doug’s Wire Writing in the ASC atrium for a handmade, personalized keepsake. Next, walk upstairs to the Woulfe Alumni Hall for Nacho Bingo, where you can enjoy nachos and win prizes from the Tommie Shop. Finally, head downstairs to the lower level to knock down some pins in ASC Bowling and grab some pizza in ASC Dance while you play board games. Sponsored by STAR and the Anderson Student Center.

BEAT MAKING LAB

11 a.m.-1 p.m., John P. Monahan Plaza, ASC

8:30-9:30 p.m., James B. Woulfe (ASC) Join DAB for an exciting and interactive experience with Pierce Freelon and Beat Making Lab. Pierce Freelon is the founder of Blackspace, a digital maker space where young people learn about music, film and coding. He’s also the co-founder of Beat Making Lab and the front man of local jazz hip-hop band, The Beast. Join DAB in the Woulfe Alumni Hall to be a part of a creative beat making session and interactive conversation on hiphop, community and ARTVSM (art + activism). We encourage you to bring your laptop or electronic device to join in the beat making. Sponsored by DAB (Diversity Activities Board).

Put on your purple and join us on the plaza for home football games. Purple on the Plaza features music, food, Tommie Mascot and a ton of Tommie spirit. There is a picnic lunch for all first-year students at this year's first home football game. Lawn games and activities will be available for students and will continue to be available during the game.

LIVE YOUR LEGACY WITH SHAUN BOOTHE 7:30 p.m., Schoenecker Arena, AARC Shaun Boothe is an energetic and engaging performer and speaker who will be offering unique perspectives on stepping outside our comfort zones, being part of a welcoming and inclusive campus environment, and being invested in the well-being and success of one another.

HEADPHONE DISCO 9:30 p.m.-Midnight, John P. Monahan Plaza, ASC Join us on Monahan Plaza for Headphone Disco. This fun event utilizes specially made, two-channel wireless headphones. With two DJs broadcasting simultaneously, participants can choose their DJ with the flick of a switch and then dance to two completely different soundtracks that can only be heard through the headphones. When you need a break from dancing, be sure to take a fun picture in the photo booth and grab some free food in Scooter’s. 4

BREAKING ICE

Through theater and facilitated dialogue, explore components and solutions for interpersonal and social issues at St. Thomas and beyond.

All students are welcome to attend an ecumenical service where we will gather for a service of blessing. We will begin to gather at 9:30 a.m. to get to know each other and prepare for the service. Beginning at 10 a.m., the service will include worshiping the Lord through hymns, listening to the Word of the Lord, and celebrating Holy Communion as a family of Christ.

ACTIVITIES IN THE AARC 9:30 p.m.-Midnight, Field house, AARC Join STAR for an exciting night of Activities in the AARC. Come to the field house, located on the second floor of the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex, for activities, music and fun. There will be Laser Tag, indoor roller skating and glowin-the dark games like foosball, ping pong, Jenga and more. Don’t miss out on this event – it’s sure to be a good time. Sponsored by STAR.

Explore the Tommie culture of community engagement and changemaking by attending this

classroom. You'll get some practical tips and then have an opportunity to reflect on what you hope to accomplish during your time at St. Thomas.

AJORS AND CAREERS: M FACT OR FICTION? Schoenecker Arena, AARC The range of career choices that awaits you is wide. How each individual will choose and pursue their career goals will be unique. Students will leave this session understanding how the Career Development Center is here to serve them, as well as a sense of how their choice of a college major will fit into their many potential career pathways.

WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW Schoenecker Arena, AARC A panel of St. Thomas students talk about social life at St. Thomas. Students will speak about their social experiences related to meeting people, making friends, and the culture around sex and dating.

This interactive and lively presentation will engage incoming students with the process of beginning to see the possibilities that exist for them in the world of work and how their academic studies, extracurricular involvements and St. Thomas life will prepare them for life beyond the arches.

A FEW TOO MANY... 7:30 p.m., Schoenecker Arena, AARC Dr. Lori Hart gives an entertaining and relevant discussion on alcohol use by college students supported by research and anecdotal situations from Hart's work with fraternal organizations, athletic teams and on college campuses. Dr. Hart is a nationally renowned speaker on the topics of alcohol and risk management.

NAVIGATING CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall, ASC College conversations can be tough, and that's OK. In this interactive session, you'll learn practical techniques for engaging in conversations in which the starting point is disagreement – conversations in which you can have your say, be heard and learn about the people with whom you disagree. You'll have a chance to try out this new way of listening and talking during the session and then take what you learn into your St. Thomas experience – both inside and outside the classroom.

STEP AFRIKA! 9:30-10:30 p.m., James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall, third floor, ASC Join us in the James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall for a fun and exciting performance from Step Afrika!, the first professional company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping. Stepping is a percussive dance genre cultivated by African-American fraternities and sororities and celebrated by thousands. Since its inception in 1994, the mission of Step Afrika! has been

This meeting is also your chance to discuss any last-minute questions or concerns you may have before classes begin.

GLOW DANCE PARTY 10 p.m.-12:30 a.m., AARC, AARC Field house Get ready to bust some moves on the dance floor with DJ Spin's Musical Roulette. This unique dance party allows YOU to help decide what music gets played. There will be a giant wheel on stage and throughout the night, participants will give the wheel a spin to see what genre of music the wheel lands on. The DJ will then mix and scratch his way through that style until it’s time to spin the wheel again. We’ll provide wrist bands that light up with the music, as well as food and drinks. Bring your best dance moves and get ready to have a blast at DJ Spin’s Musical Roulette.

With approximately 140 clubs and organizations and campus-wide programs and events there are many ways to get involved. Come and learn how to get linked up to campus events and student clubs!

OUT-OF-STATE STUDENT RECEPTION 6-7:45 p.m., Koch Fireside Whether you are coming from a different state or a different country, St. Thomas invites you to this reception to meet other peers who have traveled far to be a Tommie. There will be free T-shirts, snacks, games, and many opportunities to make new friends. Reception starts at 6 p.m. and we will end right before the movie on the football field at 8 p.m. Feel free to come anytime during this event to meet new people and enjoy some snacks.
