A large part of your membership is composed of your chapter experience. Each chapter is unique in the types of events, benefits, and opportunities it makes available to its members. Biennial Convention www.nursingsociety.org/Convention This event features internationally recognized speakers, breakout sessions on various nursing topics, poster presentations, regional meetings, and many valuable opportunities to connect with nurses from every region and discipline. Convention — STTI’s largest meeting — is held each odd-numbered year and is where the House of Delegates elects the organization’s leadership.

Who is Virginia Henderson? Virginia Avenel Henderson, MA, RN (1897-1996), was the “first lady of nursing” and arguably the most famous nurse of the 20th century. Because she was instrumental in its creation, the repository bears her name and proudly honors her commitment to teaching and the free dissemination of nursing knowledge.

Researcher Hall of Fame
Since 2010, the honor society has been inducting nurse researchers who have achieved significant and sustained broad national and/or international recognition for their work and whose research has impacted the profession and the people it serves.
Emerging Nurse Researcher Award In 2015, the Emerging Nurse Researcher Award was created to recognize one member from each global region whose research has impacted the profession and the people it serves.

New Member Pillar Award The Pillar Award recognizes a recently inducted member whose nursing practice reflects care, commitment, and creativity to advance the profession and whose exemplary voluntary service and leadership achievements have positively impacted STTI, the chapter, and the nursing profession or healthcare.

GRANTS www.nursingsociety.org/Grants Give Back to Sustain the Future of Nursing Research
Funding Research In 1934, STTI established the first fund for nursing research in the United States, and it is now known as the Research Permanent Fund through the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation for Nursing. Since its modest initial award of US $600 in 1936, the organization’s research grant program has continued to grow as scholarly activities and the advancement of nursing science have become more sophisticated and integral to the growth of the nursing profession. STTI annually awards a variety of international and co-sponsored research grants that cover a range of global health topics.
Purpose The purpose of the international grants program is to provide funding for novice researchers, to assist them in beginning their research trajectories and to help more seasoned researchers strike off in new directions. In the process, STTI and the Foundation have contributed significantly to many nurse researchers’ professional careers while also contributing to the advancement of nursing science.

NURSE FACULTY LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Experienced Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy (ENFLA)
Emerging Educational Administrator Institute (EEAI) www.nursingsociety.org/EEAI The STTI/Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for Excellence in Nursing Education Developed for new or aspiring nursing academic administrators, the EEAI combines online courses, two face-to-face workshops, and a leadership project to position participants for administrative success. Each participant works with a mentor and a senior faculty member to facilitate the achievement of his or her administrative career path.
www.nursingsociety.org/ENFLA The STTI/Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for Excellence in Nursing Education Created for nurse faculty with at least seven years of full-time teaching experience, the ENFLA utilizes online discussion forums, two face-to-face workshops, and an individualized leadership progression plan. Participants choose a mentor who provides guidance regarding leadership, career advancement, and service.

Faculty Knowledge/Skills Development Program (FKSDP) www.nursingsociety.org/FKSDP The STTI/Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for Excellence in Nursing Education This program offers professional development opportunities for new and experienced nurse faculty, utilizing a series of online courses. These courses are ideal for faculty orientation and continuing education.
Faculty Professional Role Development Program (FPRDP) www.nursingsociety.org/FPRDP The STTI/Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for Excellence in Nursing Education A series of online courses focused on promotion for tenure- and clinical-track faculty. Some of the topics include the Scholarship of Teaching and Research, Professional Portfolio Development, and Grant Writing.
Nurse Educator Mentoring Program This program will allow schools of nursing to develop a customized mentorship program for faculty. It is scheduled to be available early 2018.

5. Member Growth To support member growth, STTI is developing a global and dynamic educational standards database to support the establishment of developing honor societies and enhance the engagement of new members worldwide.
STTI establishes global networks that can support the organization’s expansion, identifies potential partners, and hosts programs in collaboration with mission-related global meetings in various regions.

The mission of the Institute for Global Healthcare Leadership ® is to educate and empower leaders in healthcare around the globe to be change agents. Through this affiliation, STTI commits to disseminate information and raise awareness about the purposes and activities of the UN and related issues of global concern. STTI was granted special consultative status by the UN Economic and Social Council, which recognizes STTI’s commitment to and competence in the field of nursing, which extends to global health. This status allows STTI greater privileges, access to nearly all intergovernmental processes at the UN dealing with economic and social development – including health issues, sustainable development and human rights – and allows STTI to participate on UN committees and to have a voice at the UN.
