LIGHTING HER WAY St Swithun’s is a world-class British boarding and day school for girls aged 4 to 18. Boarding commences in Year 7 at age 11.
“A truly exceptional school that others look to for inspiration.” High Performance Learning (HPL), 2026
AN UNSPOKEN SISTERHOOD At St Swithun’s, all-girls education is not just about learning lessons, but learning who we are without fear of failure or outdated attitudes about what young women can aspire to. A student recently described St Swithun’s as being an ‘unspoken sisterhood’. We are a school where girls lift each other up, and where young women see possibilities, not barriers.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU
St Swithun’s is ranked in the top 5% of schools nationally for student enjoyment, pupil recommendation, effort and inclusion. St Swithun’s TEP survey

In the evenings, boarders find the balance between completing their school work, or ‘prep’, enjoying time with their friends, or pursuing their own interests, whether it be in art, music or sport. At the weekends, we offer varied activities for boarding students including water sports, silent discos, roller skating, cinema and theatre trips, visits to the local nature reserve and scavenger hunts in the city centre. In the summer term, students can use the after-school shuttle into Winchester - an opportunity to visit the charming streets of this historic city and explore our local area.
“I love the close friendships you make and how your best friend can be literally down the hall.” - Boarding student
DISCOVER YOUR OWN PATH At St Swithun’s, we understand that no two girls are the same. Each student has their own interests, ambitions and needs. Our dedicated boarding and teaching staff support students throughout their journey, helping them to explore their passions, discover new ones and ultimately, light their way. We are an ‘appropriately academic’ school, meaning that, in addition to achieving top results at GCSE and Alevel, we encourage our girls to pursue their individual interests outside of the classroom. This could be through the 140 co-curricular and sport clubs we offer, getting involved
in a school production, learning an instrument, or joining a sports team. In the Sixth Form, we offer career guidance and additional support for students applying to Oxford and Cambridge, and universities overseas. In all experiences at St Swithun’s, students develop key skills and habits that they carry through into adulthood. Activities such as the annual Fire Walk remind students that there may be moments when they doubt themselves, but their resilience and courage, nurtured at St Swithun’s, will help them persevere. As headmistress Jane Gandee says: “Feel the fear and do it anyway”.
