Industrial development in Zimbabwe is growing at a rapid pace, with RadX Construction currently spearheading a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade at The Buffalo Brewing Company’s facility in Nyabira, just outside Harare.
The multi-faceted project, critical for bolstering the company’s operational capacity and efficiency, encompasses a substantial extension of the main factory, the construction of a dedicated substation, the development of robust footings for new storage tanks, and site
improvements including specialized structures, perimeter security, and an integrated stormwater drainage system. The undertaking highlights RadX Construction’s expertise in delivering high-quality, durable industrial solutions tailored to the demanding environment of a brewing operation.
The core of the expansion lies in the significant extension of the mainfactory building, designed to seamlessly integrate with existing
operations while providing expanded production and storage capabilities. RadX Construction is erecting a brick and steel framework, forming the skeleton of the new section.
The intricate network of black steel beams and trusses, visible in various stages of assembly against the clear sky, underscores the unparalleled structural integrity designed to withstand significant industrial loads, including heavy machinery and product storage, providing a durable and expansive envelope for future operations.
The exterior walls are being clad with resilient vertical grey corrugated metal siding, chosen not only for its contemporary aesthetic but also for its superior durability, low maintenance, and ability to provide a weather-tight seal, essential for protecting sensitive industrial processes from the elements.
Large cut-outs within the cladding suggest a deliberate design for optimized natural light ingress and strategic access points, crucial for efficient operational flow, ventilation, and future maintenance within the factory.
The foundation for this vital extension, a critical element for its longevity and stability, involves earthworks, evidenced by the efficient handling of reddish-brown earth by large yellow backhoe loaders during site preparation. Dense grids of steel rebar are then precisely laid over black tarpaulin vapor barriers, spaced with concrete blocks to ensure optimal reinforcement, preparing for substantial concrete pours that will form the high-strength floor necessary for a large-scale industrial facility.
This area will likely involve a hardstand or containment system with retaining walls, designed to efficiently manage and store fuel for the brewery’s thermal processes, ensuring durability, environmental compliance, and organized material handling for sustained operations.
Further enhancing the facility’s overall capabilities and security, RadX Construction is erecting another significant structure located strategically behind the substation. This building, constructed with durable brick walls, is designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing architectural aesthetic while providing additional functional space. Perimeter security is also a key component of the site development, with the construction of a durawall at the far end of the property.
Beyond the main factory, RadX is concurrently constructing vital ancillary structures crucial for the brewery’s expanded functionality. A dedicated substation is rapidly taking shape, characterized by its sturdy rectangular brick construction and a flat, light-coloured roof. This building features multiple metal doors, some adorned with clear warning signs, indicating its critical role in the safe and reliable distribution of electrical power throughout the facility. It’s foundation, reinforced with rebar, highlights the engineering necessary for this essential utility hub.
Parallel to this, the project includes the crucial footings for new, large storage tanks, which are integral to the brewing process. The structures demand substantial concrete reinforcement, involving thick concrete formwork densely packed with steel rebar grids, tied together to anticipate and distribute the hydrostatic loads from the stored liquids or materials. Adjacent to these tanks, a designated coal area is being developed.
This wall will also incorporate two separate structures, potentially designated for security checkpoints, gatehouses, or additional utility enclosures, thereby enhancing controlled access and site safety. Crucially, a stormwater drainage system is being implemented across the entire site to manage water runoff effectively.
This involves the excavation of long, narrow trenches for efficiently channelling rainwater away from operational areas and building foundations, along with the installation of large, circular concrete pipe sections for underground drainage chambers or septic tanks. These pre-cast concrete elements, combined with freshly finished concrete pits with smooth, plastered walls, are essential for managing water flow, preventing site erosion, and demonstrating a holistic and environmentally responsible approach to site development and long-term facility resilience.
The construction methodology employed across The Buffalo Brewing Company project emphasizes precision, engineering, and unwavering durability, underpinned by stringent quality assurance protocols. Initial stages involved extensive earthworks and detailed site preparation, with skilled workers utilizing heavy machinery like backhoe loaders for efficient excavation and grading.
Concrete work, a cornerstone of the project’s structural integrity, is executed with attention to detail. This includes the laying of steel rebar grids, often over black tarpaulin vapor barriers, with concrete blocks systematically used to maintain rebar position for optimal strength and coverage. Scribante, a leading supplier of premix concrete, has been instrumental in ensuring the consistent quality and timely delivery of the substantial concrete volumes required across all phases of the project, from the expansive factory floor to the critical tank footings and the intricate drainage systems.
Construction teams, wearing their distinctive hard hats and high-visibility work suits, were consistently observed actively pouring and levelling large volumes of high-grade concrete, ensuring a strong and level floor for industrial operations. The erection of the steel frameworks is carried out by highly skilled teams, adhering to engineering specifications, followed by the systematic cladding with durable corrugated metal sheets. SpielCon, a renowned rigging company, is playing a vital role in the roofing of the structures, expertly managing the placement of steel trusses and corrugated metal sheets, ensuring the structural integrity, weatherproofing, and timely completion of the factory extension.
Throughout these phases, the organized deployment of specialized equipment, including concrete mixer trucks and scaffolding, coupled with diligent on-site supervision and adherence to stringent safety standards, underscores RadX Construction’s unwavering commitment to efficiency, safety, and delivering a superior quality product that meets the highest industrial standards.
This extensive development at The Buffalo Brewing Company signifies a major investment in the facility’s future. From the expanded factory floor and dedicated substation to the vital tank footings, specialized structures, and integrated drainage, each component is engineered for long-term performance and enhanced operational efficiency. RadX Construction is playing a pivotal role in strengthening the brewing company’s infrastructure, enabling increased production capacity and streamlined logistics in Nyabira, thereby contributing significantly to Zimbabwe’s industrial growth.
