As we mark our 10th anniversary, I am filled with gratitude and pride. Over the past decade, Steelmate Investments has established itself as a leader in the steel industry, built on a foundation of quality, reliability, and exceptional customer service..

A journey of growth and innovation

Our journey has been marked by numerous milestones, from expanding our product range to investing in stateof-the-art technology. We have consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation and excellence, driven by our passion for delivering exceptional value to our customers..

Expansion and growth

One of our most notable achievements has been our expansion from a single branch in Mbare to four branches in Harare, with a nationwide distribution network. This growth has enabled us to better serve our customers, providing them with greater convenience and accessibility..

A Biblical perspective

As I reflect on our success, I am reminded of the wisdom found in Psalm

90:17, which says: “May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.” This verse reminds us that our success is not solely dependent on our efforts, but also on the favour and blessing of God..

Looking to the future

As we look to the future, we are excited to continue on our journey of growth and innovation. We will remain committed to delivering exceptional value to our customers, investing in our people, and contributing to the development of our community..

OUR JOURNEY

Mr. Edmond Chiduro, Steelmate General Manager, walks us through the journey.:

We opened up our first retail outlet at gate number 8 , Siyaso in Magaba in 2015 The founder Mr. Clive Chisenye was personally involved through this journey. The shop was soon overwhelmed with customers which resulted in us opening a second shop down the road at number 1 Easterman’s place in Magaba. The shop is trading as Discount Steel.

Due to good customer care we started serving clients from all walks of life , the demand for steel , roofing and complementary products rose significantly resulting in management resolving to construct a more spacious distribution centre in June, 2020 at 346 , Affirmative Way, Willowvale. .

This is currently our Head office.

Due to the need of increased space to house both distribution and rolling, cutting and bending machines we opened up a branch at 706, Gleneagles road in Willowvale in 2023..

In 2024 we opened a manufacturing unit at a new site in an Affirmative way where we are doing most of our production of roofing sheets, customized lipped channels, CR sheets, valley gutters, roll top ridges, tubes and diamond mesh..

We are a current member of the Zimbabwe Builders Contractor Association (ZBCA) and the Steel Users Association..

We also work very closely with various professional associations such as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers, the Zimbabwe Architectural Association, and many others.

Since the inception of the company, we have done our part in contributing to both economic and infrastructural development in the country..

We have also contributed immensely to both upstream and downstream industries..

We intend to add more branches in the near future in Harare, Kadoma, and Mutare..

We will be opening very soon a new branch in Pomona Industrial Park, Pomona and Kadoma town..

The extension of our Gleneagles warehouse is under way and is expected to be operational soon, concurrently final touches are being put to our manufacturing factory in Rainham Park,Harare.

We currently have a staff complement of over 120..

We work with different customers from government ministries, parastatals, nongovernmental organizations, farming, mining, engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, schools, vocational and technical colleges, universities, borehole drilling companies, contractors and many others..

As we celebrate a remarkable milestone - 10 incredible years of our steel distribution company’s success. I’m deeply humbled having been a part of this journey from day one. I remember the early days, when our team was small, but our ambitions were big..

We worked tirelessly to build a company that would become a leader in the steel distribution industry.

And today, I’m proud to say that we’ve achieved just that..

Anesu Madiye is a versatile and accomplished professional at Steelmate, serving as PA to the Managing Director and Marketing Assistant. With a background in journalism, Anesu brings unique skills to her dual role. Her experience at The Herald and journalistic expertise enable her to craft compelling content, communicate effectively, and provide administrative support.

Anesu’s organisational skills, attention to detail, and creative writing abilities make her an invaluable asset to the Steelmate team. Her dedication, work ethic, and passion for storytelling have earned her respect and admiration from colleagues.

Since joining Steelmate Investments in December 2023, Adele Mtetwa has really made a mark in the marketing department. As a graduate trainee with a strong focus on digital marketing and graphic design, Adele has transformed the company’s visual identity through her creative designs and strategic content.

Her keen eye for design, combined with a deep understanding of brand storytelling, has significantly elevated Steelmate’s online presence.

PRODUCTION UNIT

Mr. Theophilus Chidhuro, the production manager said that their newly opened production workshop in Willowvale is now fully operational and focuses on the production of roofing sheets, roll top ridges, valley gutters and cutting and bending of deformed bars.

He also said they have installed new machines that cut and punch lipped channels and another which customize cold rolled and galvanized sheets to client’s specification. We have started manufacturing of diamond mesh and very soon we will commence on tubes.

The factory has the capacity to meet any demand adequately. From the factory, we offer:

• Cutting, bending, and fixing of deformed bars (reinforcement steel).

• Profiling of roofing sheets.

• Manufacturing of roll top ridges, valley gutters.

• Manufacturing and fixing of palisade, clear view, and diamond mesh wire.

As we toured the factory, we caught up with the Production Manager who had this to say:

“As a production manager, I’ve had the privilege of overseeing the heartbeat of our operations—the production floor. I’ve witnessed our production team grow from a small group of dedicated individuals to a robust and skilled workforce.”

Together, we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that every steel product that leaves our facility meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability. I’m proud of the many milestones we’ve achieved along the way, from implementing new manufacturing technologies to expanding our product lines and improving our efficiency. But most of all,I’m proud of the people who make it allhappen—our production team.

Our cutting and bending section has state-of-the-art machinery and is run by experts with many years of experience. The reinforcement is shaped according to the area of use and facilitates production of the following:

Inverted Box Rib (IBR) Chromadek and Corrugated Roofing Sheets: IBR Chromadek Roofing Sheets

1. Profile: IBR sheets have a unique, inverted box rib profile that provides excellent strength, stability, and water runoff.

2. Material: Chromadek is a type of coated steel sheeting that is resistant to corrosion and UV degradation.

3. Thickness: IBR Chromadek sheets are available in various thicknesses, ranging from 0.4mm to 0.8mm.

4. Cover Width: The cover width of IBR Chromadek sheets is typically 686mm.

5. Benefits: IBR Chromadek sheets are known for their durability, strength, and resistance to corrosion and weathering.

Corrugated Roofing Sheets

1. Profile: Corrugated sheets have a wavy, corrugated profile that provides excellent water runoff and structural strength.

2. Material: Corrugated sheets can be made from various materials, including galvanised steel, aluminium, and fibreglass.

3. Thickness: Corrugated sheets are available in various thicknesses, ranging from 0.2mm to 0.6mm.

4. Cover Width: The cover width of corrugated sheets can vary depending on the manufacturer and type of sheet.

5. Benefits: Corrugated sheets are known for their affordability, ease of installation, and versatility.

Comparison

1. Strength and Durability: IBR Chromadek sheets are generally stronger and more durable than corrugated sheets.

2. Corrosion Resistance: Chromadek coating on IBR sheets provides better corrosion resistance than corrugated sheets.

3. Water Runoff: Both IBR and corrugated sheets provide excellent water runoff, but IBR sheets have a more efficient water runoff system.

4. Cost: Corrugated sheets are generally more affordable than IBR Chromadek sheets.

5. Installation: Corrugated sheets are easier to install than IBR Chromadek sheets.

Ultimately, the choice between IBR Chromadek and corrugated roofing sheets depends on your specific needs, budget, and preferences.

Cranked Ridges & Rolltops

LIPPED CHANNEL PRODUCTION

Various size slits are fed into the machine after which they are aligned with the shear blades. The shear blades descend, cutting the section to the desired length. The punching die is activated, punching holes into the steel section according to the predetermined pattern. Lip forming is engaged, shaping the lip on the steel section. The finished channel is ejected from the machine, completing the process.

Steelmate has always been committed togiving back to the community in meaningful ways. We proudly contributed to the improvement of local schools by donating a fully equipped waiting area at Prince Edward High School, providing students with a comfortable and sheltered space.

Additionally, we supported sports development by donating high-quality sports benches to St. John’s College in Borrowdale, ensuring athletes and spectators alike have proper seating during games and events. These contributions reflect our dedication to fostering a better learning and sporting environment for young people in our community.
