 Youth from our Brentwood Chapter were invited to Governor Cuomo's State of the State address!
S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth is partnering with the National Compadres Network to bring a series of unique trainings to Long Island. These trainings will introduce critical tools that strengthen our abilities to uplift our immigrant families through culturally focused strategies & interventions. The first of the series was a two day training led by Jerry Tello & Mario Ozuna Sanchez on the Circle Keeper process & Healing Circles The next few months will bring curriculum based trainings which focus on working with young men, young women, & parent engagement. Bellport & Wyandanch C.H.A.N.G.E. Program
The Bellport Community was taken by storm when STRONG Youth & Bellport Middle School (BMS) hosted their annual Black History Month Celebration. We are so grateful to the School’s staff & Administration who supported this event. Thank you to the BMS Jazz Band & Chorus for your talented display of music, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman, Valerie Cartwright, for your inspiring speech encouraging our youth to continue being proud of their history, and Aniya Heyward for bringing such passion through tap dance. This celebration would be nothing without the beauty of collaboration!
Breaking Ground In: Brentwood & Central Islip We hit the ground running in 2019. Our community relationships are flourishing and our new home is just that, a home. As we continue to educate, empower, and provide opportunity for change our most vulnerable youth have embraced their abilities to be change agents in their community.
Our young men continue to learn about violence in the community. In March they heard a mother’s experience of gang violence and the impact it had on her family.
KEEP AN EYE OUT... Soccer Camp is Back in 2019 Last Summer 60 youth participated in the STRONG Summer Soccer Program. They spent weeks knowing they had a safe place to play their favorite sport which allowed them to connect and grow as a team. Through soccer our youth developed leadership skills, positive coping mechanisms and the importance of communication.

EXTENDED DAY VIOLENCE PREVENTION During Black History Month We: Learned how to make change as a kid through the movie Selma Lord Selma. Practiced making decisions without judgement during a Mystery Party because STEREOTYPES STINK !!! Went to NEW YORK CITY to explore African American Achievements in Television at the Paley Center.
Who doesn’t love a competition!? Was a hit, food, family, & laughs … What else do we really need !?
Walnut Street 4th graders completed a Science fair project with the help of STRONG Staff. Their board will be on display during STEAM Night April 12 at UHS!

STRONG UNIVERSITY Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s work is never finished. In his honor STRONG University teamed up with Molloy college to work on projects that support: Local Schools, Hospitals & The Mary Brennan Inn.
Our youth are rarely exposed to the performing arts outside of the music industry. So, how can we expose them to animal trainers, burlesque dancers, gymnasts, comedians, & magicians who are just as talented as musicians? Bring them to ‌..
Our very own Sharelle Allen has fostered a beautiful relationship with Momentum Education. This has allowed many of our youth explore trust, responsibility, choice, & what a win win world looks like during the Teen possibilities workshop at Momentum.
