The projection surface of the Eclipse Screen is not perforated, but solid. Therefore, the surface is non-distorted, enhancing the visual performance in multiple areas. The curvilinear shape acts as an immersive blanket, by nature increasing the depth of field while improving the guest experience. Combined with our Orion Optical Coating, the projection surface offers superior advantages: image uniformity, truly seamless, higher contrast, resolution, and brightness.

In addition to high-level image processing, the Eclipse Immersive Screen System offers the option to incorporate behind the screen audio. How is this possible with a solid screen surface? The patented Lyra Sound Panels can be incorporated anywhere in the screen. They are sonically clear, visually undetectable, delivering precise orientation of sound from the relative media.

ORION OPTICAL COATING

Orion is a matte finish, low gain reflective coating developed specifically for solid projection surfaces. It can be applied to many types of surfaces. When coated with Orion, the projection surfaces maintain high contrast levels and provide superior color accuracy.

The Orion finish reduces the level of incidental reflection from alternate light sources other than the projector without affecting image quality. It also provides large viewing angles making it an excellent fit for immersive displays with wide audience seating or when viewers are in movement.

To ensure adequate surface preparation and optimal image uniformity, Orion is only applied on-site by our qualified technicians.

03 LYRA SOUND PANELS

The Lyra Sound Panels are a unique configuration that allows installation of sound modules behind a solid surface projection screen. It is a patented technology that lets audio pass through a solid surface while maintaining a seamless high-resolution image, virtually invisible to the guest. The Lyra Sound Panels are the bridge from the speaker of your choice (not included) to the audience.

As immersive environments are becoming larger, especially the projection surfaces; this limits the sound design. With the Lyra Sound Panels, you can selectively place the speaker modules anywhere behind the projection surface to maintain the approximation of sound to the relative media on the screen.

In the past most engineers have utilized perforated metal screens to achieve this objective. Although, that comes with a heavy sacrifice of image resolution, contrast, visible seams, additional maintenance and cost.

The Lyra Sound Panels allow the owner to achieve an immersive environment on a technical level, giving sound engineers a new option for immersive design and cre-

ORION OPTICAL FLOOR TILES

Orion commercial grade optical flooring tiles allow the technical team to visually maintain a seamless transition within the immersive environment. Ultimately, minimizing the need to recalibrate the media between the horizontal and vertical projection surfaces. The matte gray, low gain coating is inherent within the commercial grade flooring tile making it a durable projection surface. Strong/MDI can provide Finishing and Coating Services to your existing solid surface to achieve the ultimate in visual performance. Existing Drywall or other solid surfaces are refinished to the optimal surface preparation, whether flat, cylinder or compound curve shape.

Orion optical coating, sprayed by our world class technicians, is the most accurate and visually stunning applied screen surface available. New installations may allow initial construction with your own general contractor, with finishing and coating services completed by Strong MDI. DESIGN ASSIST SERVICE

Strong MDI’s design team listens to your aspirations to bring your vision to reality on a technical level. Our team’s extensive experience with immersive environments, provides technical recommendations on many levels, saving you time on initial development.

ABOUT STRONG/MDI...

1968

MARCEL DESROCHERS INC. WAS ESTABLISHED

Marcel Desrochers, a visionary entrepreneur, founded MDI and quickly became the top supplier of stage equipment across Canada.

1980-1991 MDI STARTS MANUFACTURING PROJECTION SCREENS

In 1980, the company began manufacturing PVC cycloramas and rear projection screens. Acting upon the growing demand coming from the cinema industry, MDI started manufacturing front projection screens in 1991.

1995-2007

MDI MOVES & BECOMES SUBSIDIARY OF BALLANTYNE STRONG INC.

In 1995, the company moved into its modern facility in Joliette, Quebec. MDI’s continued growth prompted important additions to the existing building in both 1998 and 2003. In 2007, MDI became a wholly owned subsidiary of Ballantyne Strong Inc. and the company’s name changed to Strong/MDI Screen Systems Inc.

2008-TODAY LEADER IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECTION SCREENS

Production doubled the following year due to rapid increase in demand for the company’s reputable 3D screens. Production capability doubled in 2011 with the addition of 26,000 square feet including a second coating tower. In 2016, after adopting rigorous quality control standards, Strong/MDI became ISO9001:2015 certified.

In 2018, Strong/MDI acquired Eclipse Projection Screens LLC. A merge between expertise and great reputation gave way to a new immersive division, advancing audio/video technology worldwide.

Over the years, Strong/MDI has adapted to the demands of a growing and rapidly changing industry. It now boasts a large, sophisticated facility, the highest quality standards in the industry and a dynamic research and development team.
