Anything but direct promotion is a huge disappointment Then we are here again. At the moment, The Cards made from 24 of the season's 42 league matches and leads Conference South fourteen points ahead of Chelmsford in 2nd place. But it should also be noted that Chelmsford has a game in hand and that they have been almost as superb as Woking after a rather sluggish start to the season. Promotion is, in other words, far from set in stone yet, but with hand on heart, we must say that it looks very much like and that anything but first place and direct promotion to Conference National is a fucking disappointment. Manager Gary Hill has led the team to 18 wins, 5 draws and just one defeat in the league this season. Kortfattet historie: Woking Football Club ble stiftet i 1887 og kom noen år senere med i West Surrey League hvor de spilte frem til klubben ble tatt opp i Isthmian League i 1911. Oppholdet i Isthmian League varte helt til 1992. The Cards spilte i denne ligaen sammenhengende i 72 år på øverste nivå (Isthmian Premier) før det første nedrykket noensinne kom i 1983. Brief history: Woking F.C. Supporters Club of Norway was founded by Claes, Thomas and Roland after a visit to Woking during Christmas 1990. We saw the home game against Wokingham Town and was charmed by all of the then ramshackle Kingfield (pictured). The crowd, players, hospitality, pub, fan shop and restrooms. A week after we heard on BBC World Boxing Day 1990 Service when WBA was beaten in the FA Cup, and thus became a supporter club formed. Member magazine "The Cards" was born a few weeks later, and after 21 seasons, are you reading now issue number 63 Thomas, later a famous football player in Romerike, disappeared early from the club and gradually disappeared then chairman Claes Olsen, better known by the press as a music guru, former owner of the So What nightclub and the head of the Ă˜yafestivalen (Oslo music festival). Our fanzine Roland has run the club on his own in recent years. An almost three-digit number of Norwegians - members, hangarounds, sympathizers and curious - has seen Woking live in the fan club's year of life. We have been represented at the games at a number of occasions. On the crucial promotion battle to the Football Conference against Windsor & Eton on a rubble pile of a football arena in 1992, FA Cup thriller against Brighton in 1994, away from home to exotic teams as Leigh RMI and Margate, as it kicked off in Woking town center before the Conference match against Doncaster In 1999, the FA Trophy finals together with 23 000 others in 1997, FAT final and Upton Park in 2006 and a dozen home games at venerable Kingfield Sports Ground. Many times the story but with a preliminary climax when eleven of us took the trip to Upton Park and FA Trophy final in May 2006. The photo above is from a home game against Stevenage in 1999. The editor (Roland) has seen Woking live almost fifty times. Back in Norway, we have arranged member evenings when Woking has been shown on Sky, with the highlight of the place when twenty

The members consists of thirty or so old trotters and some coming from and to. In recent years, the social aspect and not the least travel industry intensified further among the members. We will not go into detail but have to mention 28th of February 2009. Twelve members went to watch the home game against Burton Albion and to celebrate the fan cl ub's 18year anniversary later the same evening. "Viking Cardinals' was match sponsors and got VIP treatment before, during and after the game. But we chose to prioritize away the best seats at Kingfield in favor of standing in the Kingfield Road End. In the evening after the game we celebrated fan club 18-year birthday with twenty English supporters and several invited guests of honor, including midfield legend Scott Steele and the biggest legend of them all, the club's former manager Geoff Chapple. It was a celebration that will be remembered for years to come, and it must be said that the celebration of the day was on the limit of what is accepted in the VIP section at Kingfield (pictured below). We are proud of our work here in Norway and the future looks bright ahead. We will be there when the Cardinals from Surrey climb back to the National Conference and advance to the Football League. “There is only one Egil Olsen” Report from Kingston and AFC Wimbledon away When the draw for the second round of the FA Trophy was done showed that the Cards had as much luck as the season's other draws. Out of the hat came first AFC Wimbledon, leading team in the Conference National, and the worst possible opponent for everyone, and then came Woking. AFC Wimbledon away from home, not a dream draw exactly. However, this was a draw which aroused wanderlust to live in a small th number of Norwegians. Very early on Saturday 15 of January three members met at the airport with Kingsmeadow Stadium in Kingston as the destination. The travelers this time was Big Tommy (Tommy 2tonn in Norwegian – means Tommy 2000 kilo) and Kim. Tommy 2tonn was assigned to book hotel, a task he certainly does not get a second time. The hotel with the fashionable name of Mandalay Picton House was central to Paddington and was run by the Norwegian-speaking duo Dwight and Gary with same last name. They turned out to be brothers and not a gay married couple. If you want to stay at the hotel mentioned be aware that Tommy 2tonn do not fit in the bathroom for half of the rooms (this time lucky though). After check-in was the tube to Waterloo and then train on to Surbiton, a stop at a suitable taxi distance to the stadium where some acquaintances from Woking were meeting before the game. Half past eleven we entered Wetherspoons pub near the station and was greeted by a dozen Cardinals. In addition to some pints turned up a bottle of aquavit and various shorts in almost every color possibly. The shape was certainly nice, should not complain about it. The pub was part talking about the game and today's opponent. As known, the original club Wimbledon FC were run on the ass and sold by the Norwegian duo Røkke and Gjelsten. We did a stop at the local pub before we entered the John Smith's Bitter Away Stand together with 400 other visiting Woking supporters. Three minutes it took before the stands exploded when Moses Ademola gave the Cards lead a very hard shot down the left of the goalkeeper. The home team equalized five minutes before the break but Woking answered the charges and put one back so that the teams went to the break 2-1 to the Cards. The mood on the away stand was loud and good, home supporters on the other hand had one of their quiet days on the job. The yellows (spare costumes) from Surrey fought heroically in the second round but had to constantly look squeezed further and further back on the field and a quarter before full time the home team equalized. Most so well for himself that the result would be 2-2 in the match out and that it went against replay at Kingfield. But this time. It was like watching Brazil, seriously. The goal came three minutes before full time and all went mad in the away stand. Among other things, one of the visiting Norwegians thought it was a good idea to grab the leg of a poor aging Editor and throw him over the fence and onto the pitch.. It took off in the stands and the "Que see yo see yo ... we're Going to Wembley" and "We drink champagne ..." could also be heard some nidviser to the home supporters. With the Norwegian flag liftet "There is only one Egil Olsen" loud while the home audience shook their heads in disbelief ... After the game we went back to the pub near the stadium, specifically the part of the pub which apparently is called "Blue Room" was quite popular. Here it seemed to be a kind of combined dance performance and firefighter courses, at least was always someone on stage who danced around a pole. A little later in the evening some of the players showed up at the pub and it all was quite nice. Luckily one of the three Norwegians managed to keep a cool head and escort the two others to the nearest train station before anyone was indecent intoxicated. Sunday it was to fly back to their home country and after 36 hours on the road were the three cardinals back home in my own apartment after a trip that clearly reaches the Top 5 list. Wembley was unfortunately not this season either, the Salisbury put an end to the round after. The four teams that reached the semifinals are Gateshead, Luton, Darlington and the winner of the rematch Chase Town - Mansfield.
