In 1984, the race was run at 6 furlongs. Stonehedge Farm and trainer Kathleen O’Connell won the Gasparilla twice: in 1993 with Lindsey Lane and again in 1997 with Zesty Zoe. The Gasparilla was run at 1 1/16 miles in 1992 and was won by My Gallant Birdie in 1:47. In 2010, Diva Delite and jockey Rosemary Homeister, Jr., used a Gasparilla victory as a springboard to Florida Oaks glory. In 1994, Cavada also won the Suncoast Stakes and the Florida Oaks.
