Birthplace: Allegan, MI

Residence: Tampa, FL | Tampa Trainer: Kathleen O’Connell Racing under his own name during the 2020-2021 meet, Campbell enjoyed great success at Tampa Bay Downs, winning 13 races from 47 starts to finish third in the Owner standings. He followed up last season with five victories under his Volar Corp. banner. Two seasons ago, Campbell won the Florida Cup Equistaff Sophomore Turf Stakes when 3-year-old gelding Indy Lyon rallied late under jockey Ronnie Allen, Jr., to triumph by a nose. Campbell has been in the banking business for 60 years and is the majority owner and CEO of CapTec USA, a Tampa-based lending institution. He was formerly the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HomeBancorp in Tampa. He owned Pinnacle Race Course near Detroit before its closing in 2010 and was President and CEO of Magna International Entertainment Corp. from 1999-2009. In years past, Campbell’s stable had as many as 60 horses, few as accomplished as the filly Post It, who won the 1994 Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland as a 2-year-old. She went on to compete in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and Kentucky Oaks and was third in the Grade I Ashland Stakes. He also campaigned Sea Legs, a winner of four stakes in Michigan in 1999 and 2000. Campbell’s father and grandfather ran the Allegan (Mich.) County Fair for years and were involved in racing as Standardbred owners, but Jerry always found the Thoroughbreds more exciting.
