Lael Stables added another graded-stakes victory to its collection in 2022 when 4-year-old colt Arrest Me Red won the Grade II Twin Spires Turf Sprint presented by Sysco in May at Churchill Downs. On May 1, 2021 – Kentucky Derby Day – the 4-year-old filly Magic Attitude engendered some magical memories for Lael Stables owners Roy and Gretchen Jackson. Her upset victory in the Grade II Sheepshead Bay Stakes came 15 years after the couple’s Barbaro won the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs. The victory was one of two graded-stakes triumphs for Lael Stables in 2021, with Arrest Me Red winning the Grade III Belmont Turf Sprint Invitational on Oct. 2. As a 3-year-old, Magic Attitude won the Grade I Belmont Oaks Invitational. Tampa Bay Downs trainer Arnaud Delacour, who trained Magic Attitude for the Jacksons, has conditioned many of their graded-stakes winners, including Hawksmoor and Jehozacat, who won back-to-back runnings of the Grade III Lambholm South Endeavour Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs in 2019 and 2020. In 2015, Delacour used the Tampa Bay Downs dirt surface to develop a promising Lael Stables homebred, Divining Rod.

The colt finished second in the Grade III Sam F. Davis Stakes and third in the Grade II Tampa Bay Derby before winning the Grade III Coolmore Lexington Stakes at Keeneland. Divining Rod would finish third in the Xpressbet.com Preakness, won by Triple Crown champion American Pharoah.

The Jacksons’ stable name, Lael, comes from the Gaelic word for loyalty. Gretchen Jackson, who has a Master’s degree in pastoral counseling, worked for more than a decade counseling children of alcoholics and drug abusers.
