First Win: Hostile Jet, Monmouth Park, 2001 | Started Training: 2001, Atlantic City | Circuit: Tampa Bay Downs, Monmouth Park, Delaware Park Wilson saddled 12 winners from only 61 starters last season to finish in a tie for 12th place in the Oldsmar standings. He is known as the conditioner of Pure Disco, a New Jersey homebred for Patricia Generazio whom Wilson saddled to five stakes victories, including three in a row in the fall of 2007. Wilson has been around racehorses his entire life, learning the ropes under his father Earl Wilson, who trained at Atlantic City and Garden State. At age 11, Wilson began work as a hotwalker at Garden State during the summers. Wilson’s son, Tyree Wilson, is his assistant, and two other sons, Paul and Jimmy, also work in the barn. Wilson has been training for the Happy Tenth Stable of owner Tom Lamont for more than 20 years. Their Florida-bred filly, Expect to Be Ready, entered the 2022-2023 Oldsmar meet on a four-race winning streak. Wilson trained 12 winners over the spring and summer at Monmouth Park, and considers the Tampa Bay Downs-Monmouth circuit “the best of both worlds” because it gives him time to freshen his horses before competing in Oldsmar.
