IntegratedMSP:AIIsTransformingBusiness — But Is Your Data Safe?

As AI tools, like ChatGPT and Claude, become embedded in daily workflows, businesses are gaining remarkable efficiency. But that convenience comes with security risks that too many organizations are overlooking.

One of the most common and least discussed concerns is employees pasting sensitive client data directly into AI prompts. Most users don’t realize that the information they share may be retained by AI providers, potentially exposing confidential data beyond the organization’s control. Without clear internal AI usage policies, companies are essentially flying blind, leaving decisions about what’s appropriate up to individual employees.

This creates a compliance minefield. For businesses subject to PCI DSS, HIPAA or other regulatory frameworks, unmanaged AI use can lead to violations that carry real financial and legal consequences. Compounding the issue is the rise of shadow AI where employees are adopting unapproved tools on their own, outside the visibility of IT and leadership.

The good news? These risks are manageable. It starts with awareness, followed by establishing clear acceptable-use policies, vetting which AI platforms meet your compliance requirements, and educating your team on safe practices.

At Integrated MSP, they help businesses navigate the evolving intersection of AI and security. If you’d like to have a conversation about how to protect your organization while still leveraging the power of AI, they’re always happy to connect.

You can contact Integrated MSP at info@imsp.net, visit imsp.net or call Alan Summers at (531) 600-3188.

Step-Up Omaha Kicks Off 2026 Program, Invites More Employers to Join

Step-Up Omaha is kicking off its 2026 program with momentum and a clear invitation to the business community: help prepare Omaha’s next generation of leaders.

Step-Up Omaha has grown into one of the city’s most important youth employment and career training programs. Organized by the Empowerment Network, the initiative connects young people ages 14 to 21 with paid summer jobs, internships and entrepreneurship opportunities. Step-Up has helped more than 9,000 young people gain meaningful work experience.

This year, participants can expect hands-on training and placements in fields such as construction, education, healthcare and technology. The 2026 program runs from June 2 through July 31, with interns earning $1,800 to $3,000 or more.

Raoul Djidjoho, a former Step-Up intern, shared how coaches helped turn an unpaid international nonprofit internship into a paid opportunity, leading to project management, communications leadership and work connected to projects in West Africa. Alumni work across the city in large corporations, including Union Pacific, small businesses, and non-profit organizations, with some now in leadership positions. Several alumni have also gone on to pursue entrepreneurship.

This year’s employer worksites include: American National Bank, Big Mama’s Kitchen & Catering, CHI Health Immanuel, City of Omaha, UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, Union Pacific and many more.

Step-Up Omaha works because employers, sponsors and community partners step forward. Local companies are encouraged to host or sponsor interns. Get involved at StepUpOmaha.com.

How ALLO is Simplifying Risk Management in a Complex Regulatory World

How confident are you that your organization is meeting today’s compliance requirements while staying prepared for what comes next?

As regulations continue to evolve across industries, maintaining compliance has become increasingly complex and time-consuming. Many organizations struggle to keep up with changing standards, documentation requirements and security expectations while also focusing on daily operations.

Compliance as a Service offers a more efficient and proactive approach.

With ALLO’s Compliance as a Service, businesses gain ongoing support to assess risk, manage regulatory requirements and maintain proper documentation year-round. Rather than just reacting to audits or security incidents, organizations benefit from continuous monitoring, structured processes and expert guidance designed to reduce exposure and improve preparedness.

Cybersecurity and data protection play a central role in compliance efforts. Compliance as a Service helps organizations align with frameworks such as HIPAA, GDPR, NIST, PCI, CMMC and more by identifying gaps, implementing controls and validating safeguards. This approach reduces security risks while strengthening overall operational resilience.

Cost predictability is another key advantage. Instead of relying on one-time assessments or internal teams stretched thin, organizations receive consistent support through clearly defined services. This helps reduce unexpected expenses, avoid compliance failures and improve insurance outcomes.

At ALLO Business, Compliance as a Service is delivered by a local, 24/7 team focused on simplifying compliance while supporting long-term business growth.

EPIC: Everyday People in Control - Fixing Nebraska’s Broken Tax System

Ronco Construction Celebrates 50 Years of Building Excellence

Fifty years in construction isn’t just a milestone — it’s a testament to doing things the right way, day in and day out. Since 1976, Ronco Construction has grown into a trusted partner known for delivering complex projects with precision, integrity and a people-first approach.

EPIC Option has launched a statewide campaign to give Nebraskans a direct voice in reshaping the state’s tax system. This proposed constitutional amendment would allow you to live in your own home without having to pay the government, keep more money in your paycheck, and leave your legacy to your children and grandchildren— putting the power back in the hands of the people.

Recent increases in property valuations have placed financial strain on many Nebraskans. This simple, grassroots approach gives voters a direct voice, and the opportunity to create lasting change. EPIC offers a clear, achievable path forward while ensuring Nebraska continues to fund essential services through sales and excise taxes.

The best part? This can be done—simply and together.

Step 1: Raise $2 Million

If just 8,000 Nebraskans donate $250 each, the campaign reaches its goal. Visit axNEtax.com to contribute. Larger donations are guaranteed a refund if the goal is not met—contact EPIC for more details.

Step 2: Collect 168,000 Signatures

Supporters will earn $10 per signature. A $250 donation can be earned back by collecting only 25 signatures. If each donor does just that, the job is done—and EPIC earns a place on the 2028 ballot.

Step 3: Vote YES in 2028

No special interests. No complicated system. Just people working together. Yes—it really is that simple. We need EPIC because THEY WON’T — WE WILL.

For more information, visit axNEtax.com or contact Campaign Chair Mark Bonkiewicz at (402) 490-8612.

“This anniversary marks more than a look back; it’s a celebration of the relationships, the projects and the team members who made it possible,” said Zak Olsen, president and CEO. “The biggest factor in our success has been our people-first culture. We prioritize our team members above all else and create an environment that allows them to flourish.”

Ron and Linda Olsen started Linde Construction in 1976 as a union shop specializing in commercial construction. In 1983, they started Ronco Construction as a non-union counterpart. The two companies operated side by side until merging in 2003, creating a stronger, unified foundation for long-term growth. The company’s expansion into Kansas City in 2020 reflected its commitment to bringing the same level of responsiveness, quality and relationship-driven service to new markets — without losing what sets it apart.

Throughout the company’s tenure, notable projects include:

• UNO Circulation Tower

• Offutt Building 500 Renovation

• Dillion Inn Hotel

• Two Springs Elementary

• Lincoln County City Building

• UNL City Campus Utility Plan Expansion

• Pacific Street Bridge

• Blackstone Station

• Hilton Hampton Inn & Suites

• Aerie Blue Sage

Self-Employed Isn’t the Same as Business Owner—Local Coaches, from ActionCOACH, Challenge Entrepreneurs to Rethink Growth

When asked, most entrepreneurs will say they own a business, but if everything depends on them, they may just own a job.

Local business coaches Breann Lundblad and Coach Molly Reinecke are helping small business owners and 1099 professionals make a critical shift: from self-employed operator to true business owner. The difference comes down to mindset and systems.

“Without systems, business owners get stuck working in the business instead of on it,” says Coach Breann. “They’re busy but not working on building something that can grow without them.”

A true business owner creates systems that drive consistency, improve efficiency and allow the business to scale. Systems reduce repetitive decisions, minimize costly mistakes and empower teams to perform without constant oversight. The result is more time, better profitability and a business that supports the owner’s life.

“This isn’t about working harder; it’s about building smarter,” adds Coach Molly. “When systems are in place, the business starts working for you.”

To help business owners identify where they’re stuck, Coach Molly and Breann are offering 2 free weeks of coaching. These sessions pinpoint the key areas limiting growth and provide a clear path to building a scalable, system-driven business. The new 52,000-square-foot facility will provide hands-on training space for students pursuing careers in construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical technology and concrete construction. BBBtoHonorEthicalLeaders,Businessesand Students at 2026 Torch Awards Luncheon

Better Business Bureau Midwest Plains will host its 2026 Torch Awards for Ethics Luncheon on Tuesday, September 22, at A View West Shores, bringing together honorees, community leaders and scholarship recipients from across its five-state service area of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota. Doors open at 10:30am and the event will be held from 11:30am to 1pm.

The Torch Awards for Ethics is BBB’s most prestigious recognition program, honoring businesses, nonprofits and leaders that have built their operations around the Four C’s: Character, Culture, Customers and Community. Recipients are selected through a competitive application and review process evaluating how ethical principles are embedded at every level of an organization.

This year’s luncheon features several notable milestones. For the first time, BBB will present a Torch Award dedicated to woman-owned businesses, recognizing the growing role of women entrepreneurs in building ethical marketplaces. Keynote speaker Maggi Thorne — eight-time American Ninja Warrior competitor, international beauty pageant winner and business owner — will address attendees.

Additionally, BBB awarded 20 scholarships to first-generation, lowincome students pursuing higher education within the service area. These scholarship recipients have been invited to attend the luncheon as honored guests.

The event celebrates the businesses, organizations and individuals who demonstrate that integrity and success are not mutually exclusive — and serves as a rallying point for the region’s ethical business community. Tickets are available at bbb.org/omahatorch.

Casting Hope: How Omaha Volunteers and Veterans Find Healing on the Water

Every summer on the quiet waters of Lake Francis Case, a group of veterans, volunteers, and outdoor enthusiasts gather for something far greater than a fishing trip. For three days in Pickstown, stories are shared, laughter echoes across the lake, and bonds forged through military service are strengthened once again through nature, camaraderie, and compassion.

Caretech Expands DD Services Across Nebraska, Delivering Critical Support to Underserved Communities

Among the organizations helping make this experience possible is Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup, alongside several Omaha-area businesses proud to support Out Beside You (OBY) Veterans Organization — a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans reconnect, heal, and transition back into civilian life.

For the past six years, master plumber Kurt Doyle has donated far more than his professional expertise. Each year, he captains his boat during OBY’s annual fishing outing, guiding veterans across the waters of Lake Francis Case while sharing his passion for fishing and the outdoors.

Kurt is joined by eight other captains and more than ten volunteers who generously donate their time, cabins, boats, and resources to host approximately 20 veterans during the retreat. Together, they create an environment where military members from different generations can relax, reflect, and reconnect with others who understand the unique challenges of life after service.

A Mission Built on Brotherhood

Founded in 2017 by Dustin Davis, Out Beside You was born from personal experience. After serving ten years as a Reconnaissance Team Leader in the United States Marine Corps and medically retiring, Davis recognized how difficult the transition to civilian life could be for combat veterans and their families.

Many veterans return home carrying invisible wounds alongside physical injuries — experiences that are often difficult to explain to those outside the military community. Davis discovered that some of the most meaningful healing came not in clinical settings, but outdoors, surrounded by fellow veterans who understood those struggles firsthand.

That realization became the foundation of OBY’s mission: creating guided outdoor experiences through fishing, hunting, and agriculture that allow veterans to reconnect with nature, with one another, and with themselves.

The organization now serves active-duty military members, transitioning service members, veterans, retirees, and their families through events designed to foster encouragement, conversation, and belonging.

More Than a Fishing Trip

While the annual South Dakota outing centers around fishing, participants say the true impact happens between casts.

Conversations shared in boats and cabins often become moments of understanding and healing. Veterans swap stories about service, family, hardship, and resilience while taking in the scenic beauty of South Dakota’s rolling hills and open water.

For many attendees, the retreat offers something rare: the feeling of being understood without needing to explain.

Community support plays a vital role in making these experiences possible. Local businesses, volunteers, and donors continue to step forward year after year, helping ensure veterans have opportunities to build meaningful connections and lasting memories.

In a world that often moves too quickly, the waters of Lake Francis Case offer something simple but powerful — a place where veterans can breathe deeply, share openly, and know they are never alone.

Caretech is expanding Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver services across most Nebraska and Kansas markets, excluding Omaha and Lincoln, to bring more person-centered support to rural and underserved communities.

This expansion helps address limited access caused by provider shortages, transportation barriers, and geographic isolation. Caretech’s DD Waiver program provides Medicaid-funded, community-based services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including in-home support, community integration, life skills development, employment and vocational support, behavioral services and respite care.

“Our goal is to bridge that gap by bringing services directly to individuals and empowering them to build the skills they need to live more independently,” said Rachel Mitchell, DD Care Coordinator at Caretech.

Caretech’s approach focuses on personalized care plans built around each individual’s goals, challenges and vision of independence. Through ongoing collaboration with families and caregivers, the program helps individuals gain confidence, build life skills and stay connected to their communities.

To support this growth, Caretech introduced two leadership roles: DD Care Coordinator and Regional Governance and Operations Lead. Renee Self, Regional Governance and Operations Lead, brings nearly two decades of DD Waiver and operational leadership experience to help ensure consistent, high-quality care across every community served.

“We’re creating a model of care that is personal, consistent, and built to grow with the communities we serve,” said Self.

Outlook Nebraska Earns Innovation Business Excellence Award for Creating Accessible WorkplaceWhereBlind,Low-VisionAssociates Thrive

Avenue Scholars Partners with Mad Hatter/ Westgate for Scholar Success

Starting with just four blind associates producing paper products in 2000, Outlook Nebraska has grown to be Nebraska’s largest employer of blind and low-vision individuals with 75 associates. As the sole toilet paper manufacturer with a global reach, Outlook Nebraska has built its facility around accessibility. Because Outlook Nebraska has implemented leading-edge programs that help our blind and lowvision community members be independent, build skills and socialize, the organization has been recognized with the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for Innovation.

Outlook Nebraska has revamped its workplace to enable blind and visually impaired associates to thrive — from color-coded floor surfaces to adaptive machinery with voice commands, audio prompts and large-screen interfaces.

“Our mission at Outlook is to meet blind and low-vision people where they are to empower them in their career and personal life. Simple changes can be made to achieve accessibility; we are available to help organizations achieve the goal of workplace accessibility,” says Eric Stueckrath, President and CEO of Outlook Collaborative (Outlook Nebraska and Outlook Enrichment).

In 2025, Outlook Nebraska completed the largest initiative in its 25year history: the installation of a new Bretting Multifold machine. The high-speed automated machine can produce 850 cases of bathroom paper towels per shift, nearly six times the previous capacity. The new equipment expanded job opportunities for blind and low vision associates and reflects Outlook Nebraska’s commitment. More information can be found at outlooken.org.

Hero’s Encore Expands Instruction Team to Support Program Growth

Hero’s Encore, a Nebraska-based nonprofit serving Veterans, First Responders and Transitioning Service Members through music, is expanding its instructional team as the organization continues to grow across the Omaha metro.

The organization is currently seeking volunteer acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass instructors to support its structured Peer-to-Performer program, which guides participants through music instruction, songwriting and live performance.

Hero’s Encore provides curriculum, guidance and support, allowing musicians at a range of experience levels to step confidently into a teaching role. Musicians with diverse backgrounds—including those who play by ear or outside of formal training—are encouraged to apply.

As community engagement and program participation continue to increase in 2026, the organization is building a strong team of instructors committed to mentorship, consistency and service. Learn more at herosencore.org or email us at contact@herosencore.org.

This spring, Avenue Scholars established a partnership agreement with Omaha’s Mad Hatter Auto Repair and Westgate High-Tech Auto Care to provide discounted services for Scholars’ vehicles.

When a Scholar encounters a problem, they can visit one of Mad Hatter and Westgate’s three locations for a free visual safety inspection and a diagnostic service at a flat fee. Mad Hatter and Westgate will then work with the Scholar and program staff on a plan for repair.

In most cases, Avenue Scholars will then cover the full or partial repair cost. In addition to mechanical estimates, Mad Hatter and Westgate will also assist Scholars in putting together a plan for continued vehicle maintenance – effectively a guide on “how to take care of your car.”

The new partnership is just one example of Avenue Scholars’ commitment to helping young people in the program overcome barriers to career success.

“The idea that there is something that’s preventing you from being your best and going to school, even if it’s financial, we can help get that taken care of for our Scholars,” said Andrew Ciochetto, Career Services program manager for Avenue Scholars. “Our goal is to always work in the best interest of the Scholar – that’s our number one thing.”

Hiya Hosts Student Mental Health Fair at OmahaBurkeDraws350+Students,Powered by Youth Leadership America + Hershey Heartwarming Grant

More than 350 students gathered inside the Trophy Hallway at Omaha Burke High School on May 1 for a student-led mental health fair organized by Alejandra Wells, founder of Hiya.

Held during lunch periods, the event connected students with local mental health resources, peer-led activities and opportunities for conversations around wellbeing. The fair was developed with a school psychologist from Omaha Public Schools, who served as a point of contact alongside Wells to help coordinate logistics and ensure appropriate support was available throughout.

Several Omaha-based organizations participated in the event, providing information and engaging directly with students including Boys Town, The Kim Foundation, Methodist Health System, Inclusive Communities, and Omaha Teen Center, in addition to therapists from Omaha Public Schools.

“I was honestly blown away by the turnout,” said Wells, 18. “To see hundreds of students show up, engage, and support each other in such a real way, it just reinforced that this work matters and that young people are ready for these conversations.”

At the Hiya booth, more than 200 student volunteers assembled components for Hiya Care Kits by writing handwritten notes of encouragement. The kits are designed to provide peer-to-peer support through affirmations and mental wellness tools for young people.

The activity was supported in part by Hiya’s recent award through the Hershey’s Heartwarming Project Grant, administered by Youth Service America in partnership with The Hershey Company. For more information, visit goshophiya.com.

No More Empty Pots Expands Access to Local Food Through Community Harvest Program

No More Empty Pots is helping Omaha residents connect directly with local food systems through its Community Harvest program which offers Community Supported Agriculture (CSA).

As interest in farmers markets and seasonal eating increases in the spring and summer, Community Harvest offers a convenient, subscription-based option that brings fresh, locally sourced food directly to participants. Each weekly box includes a rotating selection of 6–8 produce items along with goods from regional food producers.

What sets the program apart is its aggregated model, sourcing products from more than 50 farms and food partners. This approach not only supports a network of local producers but also provides participants with greater variety and a more consistent supply of seasonal foods.

Subscribers benefit from both convenience and connection—reducing the need for multiple shopping trips while gaining a deeper understanding of where their food comes from. Many also discover new ingredients and expand their cooking routines.

Community Harvest reflects No More Empty Pots’ broader mission to strengthen local food systems while increasing access to fresh, nutritious options across Omaha.

For a limited time, new subscribers can receive 50% off their first box using promo code SPRING. Delivery is available within designated service areas.

AMissioninMotion:ChangingLivesThrough Opportunity with David Staenberg

Family Foundation

At the David Staenberg Family Foundation, impact is measured in lives changed and futures unlocked. This year, the foundation proudly continues its mission by sending three dyslexic students to college—two from Omaha and one from Lincoln—helping open doors that once felt out of reach.

Beyond education, the foundation remains deeply committed to supporting veterans. Each month, between 150 and 200 food pantries are distributed through partnerships with local organizations like the Vet Center, VA Clinic, Victory Park and SSVF. The goal is simple but powerful: offer a hand up, not a handout.

Looking ahead, August brings a unique challenge—climbing the nearly 3,000 steps in Manitou Incline. Supporters can “purchase steps,” with proceeds funding financial literacy programs designed to create lasting change for years to come.

The momentum continues through October’s Dyslexia Awareness Month and November’s Veterans Month, alongside the launch of a new online store featuring apparel that proudly supports the foundation’s mission. None of this would be possible without an incredible board, dedicated partners and a community that shows up time and again. After 16 years, the vision is becoming reality—and the journey is just getting started. Join the newsletter, stay connected and as always, remember: smile and pass it on. Lily Haven Launches Foundational Partners Initiative to Support Long-Term Care and Healing

Lily Haven has introduced a new initiative aimed at building sustainable, community-driven support for its future programming and residential services.

The Foundational Partners initiative invites community members to play a direct role in shaping the future of Lily Haven by committing to a recurring monthly gift. The organization is currently working toward a goal of securing 100 Foundational Partners, individuals contributing $50 per month, to help establish consistent support for the care and resources that will be provided within the Lily Haven home.

Rather than focusing on one-time contributions, the initiative emphasizes long-term investment in the organization’s mission. As Lily Haven moves closer to opening its safe home, the Foundational Partners initiative represents a meaningful step in preparing for the care and programming that will soon take place within those walls. Each partner plays a role in helping create a space centered on healing, stability and renewed opportunity.

JAG Nebraska Celebrates Record Number of Graduates

This May, Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Nebraska, a program of United Way of the Midlands (UWM), celebrated a notable milestone as more than 650 students graduated as part of the class of 2026. Representing 58 schools, the achievement reflects the impact of the program as it continues to help young people build strong futures through education, career readiness and personal support.

“JAG’s mission is to empower students with the skills and support to succeed in education, employment and life,” said Matt Wallen, COO, United Way of the Midlands. “This record-setting class reflects the determination of students and the role schools, employers and community partners play in helping young people discover meaningful pathways forward.”

Research shows that graduating from high school creates greater long-term opportunities — including higher earning potential, a stronger workforce and increased economic stability.

With JAG Nebraska, the connection continues after graduation as JAG Specialists help students navigate college or trade school, connect with potential employers and gain exposure to professional opportunities in their communities. Employer partnerships are a vital part of that success. Through job shadows, workplace tours, apprenticeships, mentorship opportunities and job placements, local businesses help students gain exposure to career fields, build connections and understand the opportunities available to them close to home.

Founded in January 2019 as part of a national network, JAG Nebraska now serves more than 5,000 students as a for-credit elective within 60 school districts.

The Omaha Police Officers Association Foundation Makes Difference Through Community and Youth Initatives

Operated as a volunteer driven organization, the Omaha Police Officers Association Foundation works in close partnership with Omaha police officers, schools and neighborhood organizations to deliver measurable, mission focused programming.

Child Saving Institute to Begin Initial Improvements at Children’s Square Campus

Child Saving Institute (CSI) announced it will begin initial capital improvements at its Children’s Square campus later this year to better serve children and families in southwest Iowa. The work focuses on safety, sustainability and long-term community needs.

A comprehensive review of prior facility assessments along with engineering and environmental evaluations, confirmed longstanding concerns. Several buildings, some over 100 years old, face challenges related to water intrusion, accessibility and deferred maintenance. Alternative solutions were considered but deemed unfeasible due to long-term risk.

“These are careful, necessary steps to ensure Children’s Square campus remains a place of hope for generations to come,” said Jaymes Sime, president and chief executive officer of CSI. “We look forward to working with the community to continue to provide the highest quality of care—now and in the future.”

Initial improvements include selective demolition within the Lemen Visitors Center; CSI plans to preserve meaningful elements of the campus legacy such as the stained glass and cupola.

“I grew up on this campus, and my family has been connected to Children’s Square since its founding in the 1880s,” said Bruce Lemen. “I believe CSI has approached this work with care, respect and a focus on what will best serve children and families today and in the future.”

CSI plans a reimagined Lemen Visitors Center with a small outpatient behavioral health practice, expanding access to services in Council Bluffs beginning in 2027. Construction is expected to become visible this summer.

COMMERCIAL REMODELING

There are many reasons business spaces go through renovations. If you are expanding staff, operations, adding a new section to your business or are going through regular upgrades and updates, the factors that go into remodeling a working business are immense. How do you keep operations going smoothly? What hidden costs and problems will appear as remodeling happens, and how can you prepare for those? And, how do you choose the right company for the job? Renovating your business may not be a relaxing project—but probably necessary—but Omaha engineering and construction firms are here to ensure the process disrupts your business and clients as little as possible.

Engineered Controls helps optimize building systems such as security, energy management and automation to improve efficiency and productivity. Creating environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to work is at the forefront of Engineered Controls’ mission. As a technology contractor, their team works with business owners and industry partners to design smarter buildings built for long-term success. If you are planning to remodel your business space, it is important to think beyond today’s immediate needs and consider how your company will grow and evolve within that space over time.

Engineered Controls provides cost-effective HVAC building automation, works alongside construction teams to ensure systems are installed and operating at peak performance, conducts analyses of existing energy systems and offers technical training for building owners and managers. Founded in 2005, JC Toland Painting has built a strong reputation as a trusted commercial and industrial construction company headquartered in Des Moines and is now expanding its presence into the Omaha market. With over two decades of experience, the company provides comprehensive solutions including interior and exterior painting and coatings, metal stud framing, drywall, ACT installation, spray booth services, and a wide range of specialty coating applications. Their team combines skilled craftsmanship with dependable project management to help businesses maintain professional spaces that operate efficiently and stand up to daily demands.

At JC Toland, businesses have access to professional painting and coating solutions designed to support commercial and industrial remodeling projects of all sizes. The team works closely with contractors, facility managers, and property owners to deliver highquality finishes with minimal disruption to daily operations.

One area that sets the company apart is its expertise in specialty coatings tailored to the unique demands of commercial and industrial environments. From intumescent coatings that provide critical fire protection for structural steel, to high-performance coatings engineered for durability in harsh environments, to insulative coatings that help improve energy efficiency and temperature control, JC Toland Painting offers solutions designed to enhance both the performance and longevity of a facility.

The company also provides electrostatic painting services, an efficient refinishing solution for metal surfaces that creates a smooth, even finish while minimizing overspray and material waste. This process is ideal for metal doors and frames, railings, piping, lockers, office furniture, machinery, and other high-use surfaces commonly found in commercial buildings. Instead of replacing worn or outdated fixtures during a remodel, businesses can restore and modernize existing features with a cost-effective and environmentally conscious solution.

Because many of these coating applications can be completed onsite with minimal interruption, they are especially beneficial for occupied facilities that need to maintain productivity throughout renovation and construction projects. The result is a clean, updated appearance paired with functional building envelope requirements and durable protection built to withstand years of daily use.

With decades of experience across commercial and industrial environments, including offices, schools, healthcare facilities, manufacturing plants, and large-scale industrial spaces, JC Toland Painting helps businesses complete projects efficiently while delivering dependable finishes and specialty coatings designed for long-term performance.

the tools, technology, and expertise needed to guide businesses through expansions and commercial remodels.

From advanced HVAC controls and energy metering to lighting, air quality, and gas detection systems, Control Depot provides solutions designed to keep operations running smoothly while helping businesses maximize efficiency, energy usage, and long-term savings.

Whether retrofitting an older facility or upgrading systems during a remodel, Control Depot helps ensure HVAC, lighting, access control, and energy systems work together seamlessly through open protocols like BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks. Their system design support and integration services help projects scale efficiently while preparing buildings for future growth and technology upgrades.

In addition to product distribution and custom panel fabrication, Control Depot provides technical support throughout installation, programming, and troubleshooting. This hands-on assistance helps contractors stay on schedule and avoid delays that can impact larger remodeling timelines.

As energy efficiency becomes an increasing priority in commercial remodeling, smart automation and energy management solutions allow businesses to reduce operational costs while improving occupant comfort and overall system performance. By integrating modern controls during a remodel, businesses can create facilities that are not only visually updated, but also more sustainable, connected, and easier to manage.

With industry expertise, responsive support, and a wide range of automation solutions, Control Depot helps commercial remodeling projects move forward with greater efficiency, reliability, and longterm value.

Remodeling may seem daunting. With the amount of complexities that comes with updating systems, choosing the right materials and crew for the job and keep operations ongoing and uninterrupted is essential to not having the remodel turn into a migraine, for you, your customers and staff.

Don’t put it all on yourself and reach out to one of these businesses for advice, quotes and explanation of services and their thoughts on your remodel.

A successful commercial business remodel requires more than updated finishes and new layouts. It depends on careful planning, communication and efficiency from start to finish. Streamlining the remodeling process can help businesses minimize disruptions, stay within budget and return to normal operations faster while still achieving a polished, professional result.

One of the most important steps is establishing a clear project plan before construction begins. Business owners, contractors, designers, and vendors should align on timelines, budgets, goals and expectations early in the project. A detailed schedule helps prevent delays, keeps contractors accountable and allows businesses to plan around disruptions to daily operations.

Communication is another critical factor. Frequent updates between project managers, contractors and business leadership help avoid misunderstandings and ensure decisions are made quickly. Delayed approvals or changes during construction can create unnecessary costs

and extend timelines. Having a single point of contact for the project often helps streamline communication and improve organization. Choosing experienced commercial contractors also plays a major role in efficiency. Professionals who specialize in commercial remodels understand building codes, permitting requirements, accessibility standards and how to work around active business environments. Their expertise can help identify potential issues before they become costly problems.

Technology and modern project management tools have also improved remodeling efficiency. Digital floor plans, scheduling software, and shared project updates allow teams to track progress in real time and stay organized throughout every phase of the remodel.

Whenever possible, businesses should also phase construction strategically to reduce interruptions. Completing work in sections or during off-hours can help companies continue serving customers while improvements are underway.

Ultimately, a streamlined commercial remodel is built on preparation, collaboration and experienced leadership. When all moving parts work together efficiently, businesses can transform their spaces with less stress, fewer delays, and stronger long-term results.

As commercial remodeling continues to evolve, many businesses are also looking ahead to the trends shaping how workspaces will function in 2026 and beyond. Today’s renovations are no longer focused solely on cosmetic updates. Companies are investing in spaces designed to improve efficiency, flexibility, sustainability and the overall experience for both employees and customers.

One of the biggest trends in commercial remodeling is the shift toward smarter buildings. Businesses are increasingly integrating automation

systems that control lighting, HVAC, energy usage, security and indoor air quality from centralized platforms.

Flexibility is also becoming a priority in office and commercial environments. Instead of rigid layouts with fixed workspaces, many remodels now incorporate modular designs, collaborative meeting areas, quiet focus rooms and adaptable spaces that can evolve alongside a company’s needs. This allows businesses to maximize square footage while creating environments that better support productivity and employee retention.

Sustainability continues to influence nearly every aspect of commercial construction and remodeling. Energy-efficient lighting, lowmaintenance materials, upgraded insulation, water-saving fixtures and environmentally responsible coatings are becoming standard considerations during renovation projects. Businesses are increasingly viewing these improvements as long-term investments that support operational savings while appealing to environmentally conscious customers and employees.

Another growing trend is designing spaces that feel more welcoming and hospitality-driven. Warmer finishes, natural lighting, lounge-style gathering areas and customer-focused layouts are helping businesses create environments that feel less corporate and more inviting.

As these trends continue shaping the industry, commercial remodeling is becoming less about simply updating a building and more about creating smarter, more adaptable spaces designed to support longterm growth, efficiency and success.

As these trends continue shaping the industry, commercial remodeling is becoming less about simply updating a building and more about creating smarter, more adaptable spaces designed to support longterm growth, efficiency and success.

SENIOR HEALTH

The seniors in our lives are often people who are very important to us; whether they are our parents, grandparents, or friends, their health is just as important as ours. Senior health encompasses a lot of different services. Emotional support services, treating the physical ailments that come with aging, and providing a stimulating yet safe environment for the elderly population are just a few of the options that are sought out by those in need of some extra care.

Keeping our seniors healthy is a sign of love from a strong community. Here in Omaha, some of the community’s strength comes from the prolific amount of businesses that would be happy to help keep our seniors safe, happy, and healthy.

Old age comes with many challenges. These issues are seen daily at OsteoStrong: balance issues and fall risk, which are one of the biggest causes of injury and loss of independence in seniors; muscle weakness and impaired body position and movement; age related muscle loss, also known as sarcopenia; joint pain and exercise intolerance; postural decline; reduces functional independence, and osteopenia and osteoporosis, which are low bone density and low bone mass respectively. Older adults are at a much greater risk for these challenges than other populations.

David Jahn

SENIOR HEALTH

Luckily, all of these common conditions can be treated at OsteoStrong. They address several of the underlying physical declines associated with aging: particularly bone loss, muscle weakness, instability, reduced balance, joint pain, posture, core strength and loss of functional confidence.

One of the main goals at OsteoStrong is to help people live the remainder of their days without physical limitations. Everyone wants to keep enjoying the things they love to do, and with the help of OsteoStrong’s four proprietary machines and their clients’ ability to participate once weekly for a short 10 to 15 minute session, this can be accomplished. The process isn’t hard. But like anything worth doing, it takes dedication and certain level of commitment to show up once a week. The results are measurable and OsteoStrong sees results daily.

Caretech supports both the daily care and emotional well-being of seniors in the comfort of their own home. They help with personal care, meal support, mobility, light housekeeping, and safe routines. They also provide companionship, conversation, and consistent support so seniors feel less alone and more connected.

A recent senior health trend that the team at Caretech has noticed is more focus on whole-person care for elderly individuals. Senior health is not only about physical needs; families are also watching for loneliness, memory changes, fall risks, poor nutrition, and signs of caregiver burnout. Caretech takes all of these potential changes into account during care so that seniors can continue to live with a healthy mind and body. Their goal is to help seniors stay safe, engaged, and independent at home for as long as possible.

All aspects of senior health remain extremely important to Caretech as they practice whole-person care by spreading positivity among their clients and caregivers.

Brookstone Meadows has a unique approach to senior health. The 55 and over independent living community is able to offer aging adults both short term and long term care depending on their needs.

A short term stay for patients at Brookstone Meadows is designed for residents who have had a brief health concern, such as a fall, and need rehabilitation to smoothly transition back into life. Brookstone Meadows places a particular importance on discharge by providing discharge planning to their patients – their goal is to see a successful and healthy life for the seniors after they leave.

Skilled Nursing Care or Long-Term Care at Brookstone Meadows has 24-hour staffing and three different types of care to ensure the senior’s health: medical care, for medications, examinations, and treatments; nursing and rehabilitative care, for post-hospital situations or various kinds of therapy such as occupational or speech therapy; and personal care, which consists of assistance with daily activities such as bathing, walking, or getting out of bed.

Whatever the needs of your senior, Brookstone Meadows has plenty of high quality care options that are centered around the lifestyle of the individual.

The matriarchs and patriarchs of our families hold a special place in our lives and in our hearts. Moving a cherished family member out of their home, bringing help into their home, or having difficult conversations about their health are major milestones and turning points for everyone involved.

These changes can feel difficult and uncertain. But despite the doubt, worry, or heartbreak you may be experiencing, the care Omaha businesses provide to seniors is unmatched. Whether it’s making a transition easier, fostering care and community in senior living communities, or helping families reflect on health needs and positive changes that can be made, Omaha is an exceptional place to navigate this transition. Here, seniors can be cared for, celebrated and appreciated for as long as possible.

Ascend Technology Group delivers innovative IT solutions that help businesses operate smarter, faster, and more securely. The company specializes in managed services, cloud solutions, and strategic technology consulting tailored to each client's needs. Its team is committed to building long-term partnerships by providing reliable support and forward-thinking guidance.

At Ascend, technology is turned into a competitive advantage.

Ascend Technology Group has been helping Omaha's small businesses and nonprofits use technology more confidently since 2005. It began as a traditional break-fix IT shop, but as small business servers became the norm in the early 2000s and the needs of small and mid-market companies changed, the company reinvented itself as a managed IT services provider. Innovation has meant staying a step ahead of what clients will face next. When cybercrime surged in 2018, the company made a deliberate pivot to build cybersecurity expertise by investing in tools, training, and processes that had previously only been accessible to larger enterprises. By 2020, as on-premise servers gave way to the cloud, Ascend evolved again, helping clients safely adopt Microsoft 365 and modern cloud platforms.

Today, with a team of 18 serving roughly 100 Omaha-based organizations, the company is guiding clients into the next phase of change — artificial intelligence. The focus is on helping local businesses securely integrate AI into daily operations, improving productivity while protecting sensitive data.

This commitment to innovation is reflected in strong client retention, steady growth, and a proactive approach to risk management. By anticipating industry shifts and responding with practical solutions, Ascend Technology Group continues to help businesses adapt with

AWARD WINNERS

Aviture is a Nebraskabased consulting and software engineering firm with more than two decades of proven impact in missioncritical government and commercial environments, combining the agility of a startup with the scale and discipline of enterprise delivery. Founded in 2004, the company delivers award-winning platforms that support critical national initiatives, power global brands, and drive measurable outcomes for public and private-sector organizations.

Aviture’s foundation was built on early success delivering missioncritical solutions for federal partners, establishing a strong track record of performance in complex environments. Building on that foundation, the company expanded into commercial markets and developed platforms such as Guardian—an award-winning situational awareness system used in national security, disaster response, and major global events.

Aviture embeds innovation into its operations. Through its Garage and broader Foundry ecosystem, the company invests in startup incubation, advanced research and development, and communitydriven initiatives, ensuring a continuous pipeline of new ideas and capabilities. This model extends across Aviture’s work, driving solutions that have modernized complex operations and delivered measurable results at the national level.

Through disciplined execution, deep technical expertise, and continuous reinvestment, Aviture delivers solutions that not only meet today’s demands but shape what’s possible next.

ProsperSpark helps businesses work smarter by replacing manual tasks, disconnected systems, and inefficient processes with custom solutions built around how teams actually operate. Since 2018, the company has partnered with organizations across industries to improve reporting, streamline workflows, and create tools that save time, reduce friction, and make day-to-day work easier to manage.

The work started in spreadsheets, building smarter, more reliable tools that eliminated repetitive tasks and improved consistency. Over time, that work expanded into automation, system integration, and connected platforms using tools like Airtable, Salesforce, Make, and Softr. Today, ProsperSpark delivers structured workflows, dashboards, and automation systems that help organizations scale without adding unnecessary complexity.

Outlook Nebraska is a 501(c)(3) social enterprise founded in 2000 to create meaningful employment opportunities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. What began with four associates producing paper products has grown into the largest employer of blind and visually impaired individuals in the state. Today, the organization produces millions of paper products each month while maintaining a strong commitment to purpose.

Innovation is central to its growth. In 2025, Outlook Nebraska celebrated its 25th anniversary while completing its largest initiative to date — the installation of a high-speed Bretting Life Interfolder capable of producing 850 cases of paper towels per shift. This advancement significantly increased production capacity while expanding employment opportunities.

The organization continues to invest in adaptive machinery and facility design, ensuring that associates can perform a wide range of roles safely and effectively. Customizations — including tactile navigation, audio-enhanced systems, and modified equipment — support both productivity and independence.

Through practical innovation and continuous improvement, Outlook Nebraska demonstrates how operational success and meaningful community impact can grow together.

They also offer multiple engagement options to accommodate a single project, an ongoing partnership, or something in between. This gives clients several ways to get the right level of support based on their needs, budget, and internal capacity. Client outcomes demonstrate measurable impact, from reducing reporting timelines from days to minutes to improving data accuracy and workflow efficiency. By focusing on reliability, scalability, and practical solutions, ProsperSpark helps organizations build systems they can trust and processes that are easier to sustain.

Milestones matter, and anniversaries mark the dedication of organizational stakeholders,as well as the commitment of customers to these businesses and nonprofits.
