LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

PAIGE ZUTAVERN - Omaha/Lincoln - President (402) 730-0096 | Paige@StrictlyBusinessOmaha.com

Introducing Strictly Business’s New “IN THE ISSUE” Monthly Email Blast This month, I’m excited to announce that Strictly Business is rolling out something brand new—a monthly IN THE ISSUE email blast which is designed to break down each issue of Strictly Business in a clean, concise, and easy-to-digest digital format. This will allow our vast readership to have more accessibility to the magazine and our advertisers will get even more exposure...which means more value! This is an awesome development for Strictly Business as we continue to be a prominent news source and advertising partner in the local marketplace. Our goal is to get in front of even more people, especially since we are living in a very digital age. A lot of working men and women are frequently on-the-go, but they’re never too far from a phone, tablet, or laptop/ desktop computer. Print is still the true source of our strength and effectiveness, but an email blast that highlights key stories and news items will generate even more attention around all the editorial we publish for our clients each month. Starting this month, anyone and everyone will be able to sign up to receive these monthly IN THE ISSUE emails—and we promise there will only be ONE EMAIL sent out to

this list at the beginning of “This new monthly IN THE each month. We’re not here to spam your already-full ISSUE email blast also opens up inboxes! These blasts will be full of valuable and relevant the door to a new advertising information. You can find the opportunity for local businesses signup form on our website and organizations!” (strictlybusinessomaha.com) on the main drop-down menu or on the right sidebar of our homepage. We will also share the signup form on our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. This new monthly IN THE ISSUE email blast also opens up the door to a new advertising opportunity for local businesses and organizations! We are selling digital ad space on these email blasts. Our Omaha subscription list is already at about 4,000—and we expect that number to grow exponentially as we promote the signup form. The ad space is available first come, first serve at a very low, affordable rate since we are still perfecting and gauging the marketing power of this strategy. In addition to ad space, our clients also have the option to upgrade their press release to be showcased as a Featured News piece on the email blast. If you want to know about pricing and taking advantage of this new advertising avenue, please reach out to me! Here are a couple of reasons why email marketing is effective: • 72% of customers prefer email as their main channel for business communication • Email is 40% better at converting (in comparison to Facebook and Twitter) • 21% of sent emails are opened within the first hour of delivery You can check out the full list at https://bit.ly/3accEK9. Once again, the foundation of Strictly Business is still print. I’m still amazed by all the positive feedback we get when a new issue arrives at the 15,000+ businesses we directly mail to each month. Adding a monthly email blast to our DNA as a local business magazine is just our way of emphasizing the commitment we have to supporting other local businesses here in Omaha. Thank you to our clients and readers for their partnership and support. Now, we’d love to partner strictlybusinessomaha.com/in-the-issue-email-blast with you and your business!

Business News LincTrack’s GPS Tracking Capabilities Recover Vehicle Stolen from TDK Lawn Care

Immanuel Celebrates New Spaces, Services, and Amenities at Pacific Springs Campus

The superior tracking capabilities offered by LincTrack GPS Solutions recently helped Lee Schumacher with TDK Lawn Care in Lincoln recover his stolen vehicle. Early one morning in May, Lee called the Lincoln Police Department after learning that one of his vehicles was missing from his parking lot. Thanks to the GPS tracking that LincTrack Owner Kelly Jensen had previously installed, Lee was able to give police updates as to where the truck was located and it was eventually tracked down to a site a few miles south of its original location, making for a quick recovery. Thankfully, the incident ended without any injury or damages. LincTrack GPS Solutions is a national company that sells fleet management GPS solutions and is recognized as the largest GPS supplier in the Midwest. LincTrack’s services allow business owners to monitor where their employees are when they are driving company vehicles. This helps them to better manage their fleets and save money through fuel savings, lower insurance costs, improved routing inefficiencies, and reduced vehicle wear and tear or unauthorized usage. GPS tracking also helps increase driver safety and helps managers detail the exact amount of time spent on a job. To learn more information, visit www.LincTrack.com, contact them at (402) 314-0037, or follow them on Facebook (@LincTrack).

ey y’all! We’re so excited to tell you about our recent trip to Nashville, Tennessee. Our travel posse consisted of the Strictly Business ladies—Hannah, Paige, and Devyn—and our good friend Ashley. Nashville is full of so much history, art, and energy. From the second our plane landed, we were immersed in the live music and that dream-big bustling.

OMNI Nashville + Kitchen Notes Getting a hotel in Downtown Nashville is definitely the way to go. Not only are you steps away from all the action, the hotel itself is a destination! For the first half of our trip, we stayed at the amazing OMNI Nashville. If you want to really elevate your Nashville experience, the OMNI is 27 stories of charm and elegance. We loved being able to look out over all the lights and movement on Broadway from our hotel room window. We appreciated the many mirrors in the room, including a lighted makeup mirror in the bathroom. This made it easier for us four ladies to get ready at the same time. We felt like queens sporting the plush robes OMNI provides its guest up to the hotel’s heated rooftop pool for an afternoon of relaxation! The pool area was very impressive. It has a whirlpool, a lounge deck, cabanas, and a seasonal rooftop bar and grill.

The gem of OMNI Nashville is Kitchen Notes, a lovely farmto-fork restaurant. The decor is very farmhouse. Kitchen Notes has an amazing Weekend Brunch menu, and get this...the chef is from Nebraska! We got to meet Chef Jon Welch and talk to him about his inspiration for the menu. It’s his goal is to invoke an emotional response that will make each guest feel like they’re as comfortable as they would be at home eating a family recipe that has been made with care. Chef Jon insisted we try Grandma’s Chicken & Dumplings, which ended up being all of our favorite! It was the best chicken and dumplings we’ve

ever had! Chef Jon got the recipe from his great grandmother, and he makes the dumplings by hand every day. We couldn’t get enough. We had similar feelings about the other food we ate at Kitchen Notes. First of all, they start every table off with their famous biscuits from the Biscuit Bar. We were given the classic Buttermilk, sweet Strawberry, and savory Garlic & Butter biscuits—all were delicious. Another item we raved about was the Steak & Eggs Benedict. The smoked prime rib was tender and seasoned well. Paige really liked the Chicken & Waffle—a Nashville staple—and Hannah gave a nod of approval to the Avocado Toast. Kitchen Notes has many more Southern-inspired dishes on their breakfast and lunch menus—it’s hard to imagine anything coming out of the kitchen would fall short of the quality we experienced during our brunch. Cheers *raises mimosa glass* to Kitchen Notes in the OMNI!

Black Rabbit in Printers Alley When you visit Nashville, there are so many options for entertainment and nightlife. It’s hard to narrow down the list, so let us help you with a couple recommendations! If you want to get wild and dance on stages, go to Broadway. If you want sip on a handcrafted cocktail or nibble on innovative fare in a sophisticated, laid-back environment, go to Black Rabbit in the historic Printers Alley neighborhood. Black Rabbit has an intimate feel. The cozy brick building where Black Rabbit resides dates back to the 1890s. On weekend evenings after dinner hours, you’ll be greeted by live music. There are a variety of seating options, including couches by a fire, high-top tables, and booths and bar seating the further back you go. There is even a spacious outdoor area if you want to take in some fresh air or enjoy a cigar from Black Rabbit’s humidor inside. One of the cocktails that stood out to us was the Go Smoke Yourself. This is a good drink for the tequila lover who’s looking for a versatile combination with a nice smoky essence. Devyn was in the market for something sweet, so she ordered the Just Call Me Karen. Served in a martini glass, this drink features pickers vodka, kahlua, cream, espresso, and nutmeg. Our favorite BY FAR was The Hughie. It features Four Roses bourbon, spiced pear, ginger, and lemon. It definitely has a winter-time spirit

#PrintProudDigitalSmart

but we’d sip on this any evening, all year round. If we weren’t mesmerized enough by the cocktail menu, the small plates we ordered to share were impressive as well. We dove right in and ordered the Rabbit Rolls. I think for most of us, it was our first time eating rabbit meat and there was a little hesitation, but when in Rome! We’d go back and definitely order these again. The pork/rabbit meat is served on Hawaiian rolls (the best) with swiss, dijon, poppyseed, and onion. If you like Brussel Sprouts, you’ll be impressed with Black Rabbit’s adaptation. The bacon, garlic, and balsamic result in a stand-out balanced flavor and they melt in your mouth. Paige, an admitted beet lover, was captivated by the Beet Salad. So unique, especially with the sweetness from the vinaigrette and honey. This is one of Black Rabbit’s many quality gluten-free options. Finally, the last recommendation we have is to get the Ribeye. Your eyes will roll back in your head when you take the first bite. It’s seasoned and charred so perfectly on the outside, and the confit potato with carrot and mustard seed chimichurri is just poetic together.

L27 Rooftop Lounge

parmesan, as well! Now onto the drinks. There really isn’t any cocktail we tried that we wouldn’t recommend. I mean, we just kept going on and on about how good everything was. I think the Lunar Eclipse was voted our favorite. It is masterly crafted with Tromba Blanco tequila, cinnamon syrup, triple sec, blood orange juice, and lime juice. Hannah loved the Spice Up Your Life because the spiced hibiscus just has such a good, natural, earthy flavor. Another stand-out was the Pear Pressure. It’s a light drink but still makes a big impact. We absolutely recommend L27 Rooftop Lounge to everyone who travels to Nashville. You don’t have to stay at the Westin to enjoy it, but definitely make reservations ahead of time!

Grand Hyatt Nashville

For the last part of our trip, we lodged at the Grand Hyatt Nashville—the epitome of luxury and grandeur. If we could use one word to describe the Grand Hyatt it would be “amenities”. This hotel has thought of everything to make sure your entire experience under their roof (or on top of it) is smooth and enjoyable. The hotel has one of the highest outdoor rooftop bars in Music City, a spa, and seven food and beverage concepts. We stayed in one of the Executive Suites, which was so spacious. It has a nice living room area, kitchen/dining nook, and separate bedroom with a king bed. We were most impressed by the WOW! I don’t think I even have the words to accurately describe ample closet/drawer space and the wet bar area which has a how stellar L27 Rooftop Lounge is. Located on the top floor/ Nespresso machine! Hyatt isn’t cutting costs anywhere. They roof of The Westin Nashville hotel, L27 is a total dream. From want the best of the best for their guests. The rooftop pool the assortment of furniture and design elements that somehow area is stunning and we totally fell in love with the rooftop work so perfectly together, to the breathtaking views 27 stories bar, lou/na! A must-see if you’re in Nashville. up overlooking the downtown cityscape, this is where you want to be. It’s very hip and classy. There are a variety of different nooks inside for small groups to sit and sip together. Large glass sliding walls open up to the outdoor patio where you’ll find cabanas, lounge chairs, and couches. The focal point is definitely the clear blue pool that basically hangs off the edge of the building with a grand arch towering above. It is very picture perfect! In addition to the whole ~vibe~ of the lounge, what we really appreciated was the menu. At L27, they care more about quality than quantity. There are only eight food choices and two dessert selections, but each one is top-notch. Same with the cocktail menu, but there is still an amazing variety. And even though the atmosphere is boujee, the prices are very reasonable. For nibbles, we recommend the Garlic Shrimp. Just imagine the combination of the shrimp with tomato, olive oil, lemon, and If you’re going to stay at the Grand Hyatt, we recommend getting smoked paprika with a perfectly access to the Grand Club Lounge during your stay. Grand Club toasted baguette. Are you is exclusive to select World of Hyatt tiers and guests who reserve drooling yet? The Chips & Guac Club Level rooms/full-price suites. It is totally worth it! There is were also unique with the use of amazing breakfast in the morning, light snacks and beverages toasted pepitas and tajin. There throughout the day, and delicious are two salads—the Quinoa appetizers (we’re talking bacon& Arugula and Ceasar—and wrapped shrimp, steak skewers, both will knock your socks off. gourmet potato salad cups, and You have the choice of adding much more) plus complimentary salmon, chicken, or shrimp to alcoholic beverages from 5 to these. The company has been established for more than 60 years. We are committed to exceeding our client’s expectations, which has led to long-term customer satisfaction. Today, Dean Snyder Construction has grown to include ATURA architecture, providing design and architectural services to the public and private sectors in Iowa. We have locations in Omaha and Clear Lake and Ankeny, IA, and approximately 230 employees and projects throughout the Midwest. Dean Snyder Construction recently started an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) which has been a great vehicle to reward our employees for their hard work and in recruiting talent for future growth. How did you get started in the business? - I started working construction in the summers growing up and always enjoyed seeing things being built from start to finish. After college, I took a role in the construction staffing industry which gave me more insight to the different sectors within the construction industry. Years of building relationships in the Greater Omaha area led me to joining Dean Snyder Construction and then helping lead the expansion to this market. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Omaha is a booming market and has lots of opportunities for work. I think finding the right balance of projects that are a good fit for the work we do while also being mindful of schedules. PRG of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices

Meet Ben Bleicher, team lead and REALTOR for Professional Realty Group (PRG) of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices (BHHS). Tell us a little about your business. - PRG is a team of experienced real estate professionals and staff who recently expanded into the Omaha market under Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. We moved into the BHHS Ambassador office in the Village Pointe Plaza, with more offices to come in the near future. We help clients buy, sell, and lease residential and commercial properties, as well as industrial, land development, and new construction. The economic market, real estate tech, and the realtor industry, in general, is trending rapidly towards less effective firms being propped up by big-tech companies, whereas we consider ourselves at PRG to be professionals trained in marketing, contracts, negotiations, and technology, making us fiduciaries to our clients and not just a salesperson. How did you get started in the business? - I’ve been in real estate for about eight years now. It all started when a friend who’s also a realtor said he thought I would do great at real estate. I took a chance, got my license, and the rest is history. I’m proud to say that PRG has had many record-breaking years since we formed in 2018. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Making the decision to partner with a new brokerage and expand beyond Lincoln was and still is a big undertaking, but I have no doubt the reward will be worth the risk. PRG is committed to bringing back the tradition of professionalism into other cities and states. Being part of BHHS will allow us to take shape on a national level. What has been your most important achievement professionally? - In 2021, I brought in $38,188,995 in closed volume, with 108 closed sides. Tell us a little about your family. - I’m married to my best friend, Andrea, who is also a talented real estate professional and co-founder of PRG. We have two wonderful kids, Vincent (18) and Brynn (9), along with a couple of furry family members in the house as well! What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Obtaining my real estate license and getting married. Both were definitely game changers. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Hanging with my family and just relaxing. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - That’s a story for another day. I only tell these things to my clients… What are you the most proud of? - My kids, wife, and my agents. All rockstars. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - Never become complacent. There’s always a bigger and better goal to achieve. If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Loyal. If you had a theme song, what would it be? - “I Can’t Stop” by Flux Pavilion. What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - Prospecting. I don’t have enough hours in a day…yet. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - There isn’t one; I absolutely love what I do. What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - More than I can list, because I enjoy being a philanthropist. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - (402) 419-6309 (call or text); ben.bleicher@bhhsamb.com; www. PRG-NE.com. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

Strictly Business Meet Derek Nosbisch, art director at Strictly Business. Tell us a little about your business. - Strictly Business is a local business magazine connecting businesses with their peers and customers. I facilitate the conversations between our brand and the many local businesses that we work with. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? Acclimating to the post-pandemic landscape in advertising and brand design was rough. It’s taken a lot of self-critique and work to get where I am.

INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO

Tell us a little about your family. - My wife and I started dating in 2016, and got married last year! We celebrate our one-year anniversary in July, and we’re planning a trip to Chicago to celebrate. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Proposing to my wife was the single biggest turning point in my life thus far. The thing that no one wants to tell you is that there is indecision around every corner, and deciding to take responsibility in shaping our future together has been the most rewarding experience of my life. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - On a day off, I love to hit the local record stores (Recycled Sounds, Homers, etc…) and go thrift shopping with my wife. We also tend to make extravagant meals on the weekend, and cooking together is one of our favorite activities. When it’s nice out, you can catch me putting up a hammock at a local lake. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I studied abroad in Japan in 2018, and it was an eye-opening creative experience. It’s one of those places that once you visit, you immediately want to go back. Who inspires you? - My dad inspires me. He’s considerate of others, and he could’ve been a stage comedian in a different life. He’s also willing to challenge his own views and grow as a person. I hope to grow up like him someday. If you could have a super power, what would it be? - I always loved Nightcrawler from the X-Men, and the power to teleport would be the coolest (especially with gas prices as they are right now). What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - My greatest useless talent is being able to shoot waste paper into trash cans from any distance. I sincerely wish this was translatable to the basketball court. Which talent would you most like to have? - I wish I was more naturally gifted at drawing and painting. I’ve had to work hard to get to a level of competency that I find adequate. What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - My favorite book is Dune by Frank Herbert. The last great book I read was The Magus by John Fowles. What is your favorite TV show? - Mr. Robot. While it’s not a perfect portrayal of Dissociative Identity Disorder, the photography and direction of the show is some of the best I’ve ever seen. What is your favorite local restaurant? - There’s a few: Modern Love, Pan Asian Terrace, and Block 16 all come to mind. Yoshitomo and Maharaja are also favorites. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - (402) 466-3330; design@strictlybusinessomaha.com; strictlybusinessomaha. com / strictly-business.com. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

Each year the Heart and Soul Award is presented to an individual or organization who has displayed an authentic commitment to the core mission of Stephen Center. Deb has shown her dedication by serving on Stephen Center’s Board of Directors at the officer level, volunteering her personal time to assist with shelter operations, and advocating to the community about what Stephen Center does. She has been loyally involved with the organization for over 12 years. “Her time in shelter operations provides the authentic experience that we often need to hear at the board level,” said Executive Director Michael Wehling. “That is what the Heart and Soul Award is all about, individuals just like Deb. Stephen Center would not be where they are today without these individuals.” This year the Stephen Center Guild partnered with vinNebraska to host a two-day fundraising event, where the award presentation was held. Along with the presentation, guests came together for wine tasting, sitdown dinners with pairings, and the chance to bid on their desired wine collectibles or vacation getaways during the auction. Proceeds from the event benefit Stephen Center programs. Located in South Omaha, Stephen Center serves the homeless, addicted, and those in poverty. Jennie Edmundson Foundation to Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Spirit of Courage RMHC in Need of Volunteers in June and July for Meals That Heal Program Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is in need of volunteers for the June and July dates of their Meals That Heal program. Vendors in attendance were Kros Strain, Upstream Brewing, Site-1, Bottle Rocket Brewing, Juke’s Ale Works, Kinkaider Brewing, Sideshow Spirits, Saro Cider, Zipline Brewing, and Nebraska Brewing, all supported by the Nebraska Craft Brewers Guild. Food vendors in attendance were Best Bison, Caddyshack, Tom & Pat’s, Clancy’s, and Skyybox. This event was created three years ago with the main purpose of allowing Angels Among Us to meet new supporters in a casual setting and for a low ticket price. It has done just that. Over half of the attendees were new supporters of Angels Among Us and made aware of the organization’s mission. “We want people to know that, no matter how much they give, just by attending a fun event they’re able to make a difference,” says Aly Theilen, assistant director. This event has grown because of huge sponsor support from Fusion Medical Staffing, Patriot Crane & Rigging, Interstates, Soul & Swag, Buildertrend, Ellerbrock-Norris, Faith Technologies, and NFM. Angels Among Us is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide financial and emotional support to any family whose child is battling pediatric cancer and living in or being treated in the state of Nebraska. In May, the Christian Record Services, Inc. staff received and installed a new machine in their facility, the Braillo Cut machine. The Braillo will simplify their braille production process by requiring less manpower by automating specific tasks. The Braillo offers an attractive standalone option for cutting continuous braille paper in a flexible and modular design. By removing any signs of perforations from all four sides of the page, it will provide a clean-looking finished document. Before adding this machine, the Christian Record staff would remove the edges of the braille paper and also separate each perforated page by hand, a process called “bursting”. It will also be safer for employees who have had to deal with the dust that is created by separating the pages manually. The Braillo Cut machine is made in Germany and is “braille modified” in Norway. Christian Record Services, Inc. is an international ministry to people who are blind. The nonprofit was founded in 1899 and is headquartered in Lincoln. American Heart Association Releases Statement on Low-Dose Aspirin Therapy The American Heart Association’s Volunteer President Donald M. Lloyd-Jones, M.D., Sc.M., FAHA has released a statement regarding the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force’s (USPSTF) final recommendations on low-dose aspirin therapy for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in adults, released in April. The USPSTF announced that people who have a history of heart attack, atrial fibrillation (AFib), stroke, or vascular stenting should continue to take low-dose aspirin, as directed by their doctor. For people who have no history of cardiovascular disease or stroke, low-dose aspirin is not recommended for prevention of heart attack or stroke, particularly for adults with higher risk for bleeding. In consultation with their physician, select middle-aged adults may benefit from low-dose aspirin therapy if they are at high risk for heart attack or stroke due to risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or significant family history. The following statement reflects the views of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. According to Lloyd-Jones, “If you are already taking low-dose aspirin because you have had a heart attack, stroke, or stenting or you have a history of AFib, continue to take it as directed by your physician; this new guidance about low-dose aspirin does not apply to your situation. Do not stop taking aspirin without first talking with your doctor. “The new guidance revising the recommendations on the use of low-dose aspirin strictly applies to adults who have not had a cardiovascular event or any heart disease diagnosis: low-dose aspirin is not appropriate to prevent a first heart attack or stroke in most people. Due to the bloodthinning effects of aspirin, research continues to indicate that for most adults the risk of bleeding may be greater than the number of heart attacks or strokes actually prevented. “We continue to urge clinicians to be extremely selective when prescribing aspirin for adults without known cardiovascular disease. For example, people with higher risk for gastric or intracerebral bleeding should not take aspirin to prevent a CV event. Aspirin should be limited to only those adults at the highest risk for cardiovascular disease due to the presence and severity of other risk factors, such as smoking, hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or significant family history, who also have a very low risk of bleeding. Some recent evidence also indicates some people with higher coronary calcium scores, >100 units, indicating higher plaque burden and risk, may also benefit from aspirin therapy if they have no history of prior bleeding.” Lloyd-Jones, also the chair of the department of preventive medicine and the Eileen M. Foell professor of heart research and professor of preventive medicine, medicine and pediatrics at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, stressed the importance of healthy choices for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease: “Various research studies over the past two decades indicate more than 80% of all cardiovascular events may be prevented by healthy lifestyle changes and management of known risk factors (like high blood pressure and adverse cholesterol levels) with medication when needed. Eating healthy foods and beverages, regular physical activity, and not smoking are key. The scientific evidence continues to confirm healthy lifestyle habits and effectively managing blood pressure and cholesterol are the top ways to prevent a first heart attack or stroke, not low-dose aspirin. The new USPSTF guidance now aligns with American Heart Association’s 2019 primary prevention guideline. Consult with your doctor and health care team before making any changes in your medications.” The American Heart Association is a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives and includes the American Stroke Association. Project Harmony is honoring National PTSD Day on June 27 by sharing some information on their program, Connections. PTSD is a mental health problem that can occur after someone has been exposed to a single traumatic event or multiple traumatic events, such as sexual or physical assault, natural or man-made disaster, and war-related combat stress. Children can be exposed to a range of traumatic experiences as well. All children and adolescents deserve a healthy, happy, and safe upbringing. Project Harmony exists to provide support and help to children and adolescents who are victims of abuse and neglect, but prevention is just as important. Connections by Project Harmony helps to stop abuse and neglect before it starts. Connections was founded on the idea that when mental health or trauma symptoms can be identified early in a child’s life, a wide range of problems can be prevented, including child maltreatment. Through Connections, Project Harmony links children and families to preventative and early intervention mental health services. Their focus is to help children get back on track developmentally, function better at home and in the classroom, and be safer at home and in the community. Project Harmony is currently working with local school districts to help identify and refer students to Connections. To learn more about Connections at Project Harmony, visit www. PHOTO BOOTHS VIDEO BOOTHS

Here at Strictly Business, we work hard, but we play hard, too. We enjoy taking regular team retreats, which really bring us closer together both as a team and as friends. It’s amazing how much this CORPORATE positively impacts the atmosphere we share once we are back in the office. If you’ve been thinking SOCIAL about planning a company retreat, summer is a great time to do it – and the local businesses below can help you make sure your retreat is a total success. Capture the Memories FotoFunSpot provides premium attended and unattended photo booth services that can create fun, unique, and memorable experiences. From elegant mirror booths to 360 video booths to self-service stations, FotoFunSpot can provide great entertainment for any event – such as a company retreat! “Since photo booths are intentionally informal, HELLO@FOTOFUNSPOT.COM (402) 915-1386 people have freedom to be creative and have fun,” said Owner Mitch Miller. “The result is teammates getting to know each other better through casual, relaxed interactions where they are free to be themselves.” Experiential photography comes in many forms and can be much more than a photo booth on its own. Integrating a photo booth into a group activity adds a new spin on an otherwise familiar game. For example, consider having a scavenger hunt and using the photo booth Mitch Miller as a way to document the “finds” from each FotoFunSpot participating team. “Photographic experiences, such as photo booths, are great ways to build memories and capture the fun that was happening during the event,” Mitch said. “While planning activities for your retreat, look for opportunities to capture the fun. Images captured by a photo booth are great ways to remember the time spent together, getting to know each other. “I find that retreats provide beneficial time away from the office where casual interaction between coworkers fosters deeper, personal connections through one-on-one exchanges. Learning about each other, our personal stories, and our respective cultures allows us to see our team as individual people rather than a work colleague,” Mitch concluded. Fun in the Sun What better way to spend a summer company retreat than in the water? Fun-Plex Waterpark & Rides is Nebraska’s largest amusement park located in the Ralston neighborhood. With its large variety of activities for all ages and central location in the Omaha metro area, Fun-Plex is a great place to take your colleagues for a day retreat! Fun-Plex offers private cabanas that can seat up to either six or 12 people, depending on the size you choose to reserve. These cabanas come with premium patio furniture under a shaded tiki hut, lawn chairs for laying out, and even a lockable storage box to keep valuables safe. The private cabanas help to ensure your entire team will be able to sit close together in a comfortable environment. Bringing the kids along? Great! Fun-Plex is ideal because they cater to both adults and children. Children’s activities include kiddie rides and waterslides in addition to family activities such as the 18-hole mini golf or go karts. Adults will enjoy the 21+ only section, where they’ll find a swim-up bar known as Breakers Bay. With plenty of seating in and around the pool at Breakers Bay, adults can be in the water and taking in the sun while enjoying a cold beer, frozen drink, or even a bucket of margarita. To get the most out of your Fun-Plex experience, we recommend working with the park to plan a catered company picnic. This includes unlimited access to park attractions, a delicious meal catered by Abraham Catering, and a private pavilion in the picnic area. If you’re ready to be in a new office space, don’t rush to create blueprints for a new build just yet. While there are many benefits to starting from scratch, there are just as many reasons to choose to remodel your current office or another existing building, instead. Remodeling is a great choice for commercial buildings that have a good foundation but are just in need of a bit of TLC. Remodeling could be done to update the look of the building; implement more efficient methods in regards to the plumbing, electrical, or HVAC; better utilize the space; or all of the above. In addition, remodeling is typically the quicker and less expensive option when compared to building a completely new space. Thinking about remodeling your current workspace? Or perhaps you’re a new business owner looking to settle down in a commercial building and are interested in learning more about what all a commercial remodel entails. Regardless of where you are at in your business journey, it’s always good to know your options in the local area for when you decide to do a little bit of a renovating. We went straight to the professionals to hear what they suggest for any soon-to-be owners of remodeled spaces, and how their business can help you reach your goals for your workspace.

Remodel to Attract and Retain Talent AOI offers solutions for the built environment through their construction, furniture, and premanufactured construction groups. They’ve recently been seeing a lot of traction with their pre-manufactured interior construction group because it is perfectly suited to address the major issues facing the industry these days – labor shortages, supply chain issues, and escalating project cost. This group works with a system called DIRTT (Do It Right This Time) that offers a completely customized solution that delivers speed of construction Patrick Jensen with cost and schedule assuredness. We sat AOI down with Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Patrick Jensen, to learn more about what AOI has been seeing as of late. “With the unprecedented employment rate, businesses are in hot competition for talent. Attracting and retaining talent is paramount

with all the companies we work with,” shared Patrick. “The changes in the workplaces are meant to encourage people to be back in the office with spaces that build company culture and brand while providing health, wellness, collaboration, and productivity. The pandemic changed the way people want to work and their expectations of what a workspace should deliver. If companies don’t adapt and adjust, they will most certainly lose out to the ones who are demonstrating that they value their employees.” Patrick cautioned that building owners must be flexible with their expectations, budgets, and design choices when remodeling their structure. The supply chain issues are unlike anything they’ve ever experienced in their 40 years in business. Availability of materials and demand coupled with the current labor shortage means costs can be unpredictable, which in turn negatively affects project timelines and budgets. AOI is ready for these challenges by having alternate options ready to go for clients, who must also be able to make decisions quickly and decisively to avoid the impact to their budgets and schedules. “AOI is unique because of what we offer with regard to interior renovation. We are the only general contractor that has a construction group along with a full service furniture dealership – MillerKnoll – and pre-manufactured interiors group – DIRTT,” Patrick explained. “This gives us the ability to be neutral with regard to solutions that fit clients’ needs. We don’t know whether the solution to their issues will be something a construction solution solves, or if a furniture solution may solve it, or if their issue is better served with a pre-manufactured approach – or maybe it is all three. That’s why our products and services are available individually or combined as part of a holistic approach developed in close collaboration with our clients and their design teams so that we are truly meeting their needs, not trying to pigeonhole them into ours.” If you’re a first-time remodeler, Patrick suggests partnering with a design team and contractor that you trust. They are going to be your advocates in the construction world while bringing your project to fruition and providing you with the best solutions for what you want to achieve. For the time that they are engaged with you on your project, they should act – and be treated – as an extension of your business.

clients make better decisions. This technology provides Farris with increased coordination abilities and allows their clients, in addition to the design team, to see how the building functions and flows to meet goals and characteristics that are unique to each building project. Currently, Derek is part of the Farris team working on renovating a historical courthouse that was built in 1938. Farris has been working closely with the owner and architect to update the building to modern technologies and implementing current energy efficiency strategies. “The design and construction aspect are heavily revolved around adapting and modifying building aspects to meet the current needs and goals of the owner and maintaining important historical features, all while dealing with the surprises and unique characteristics of a building with this age,” Derek shared. “Energy efficiency is a popular demand beyond the historical building, too. As material and utility costs continue to grow, there has been an ever-increasing demand for building energy efficiency and lower energy consumption, as well as increased material sustainability.” Your Construction Partner for Life As an employee-owned firm that has been in business for over 60 years, you can be assured that Cheever Construction will deliver on their promises. They’ve completed numerous renovations, historical renovations, and new construction projects since their start. For each project, decisions on many different aspects will affect the ultimate outcome.

Justin Kurtzer Cheever Construction

“While there are many different delivery methods, the three that are most often used are design-bid-build, construction management, and design build,” explained President Justin Kurtzer. “To start, in design-bid-build delivery, a business owner hires an architect to design the remodel in full. They create both a plan and specifications to fulfill the owner’s program requirements. The project goes out for competitive bid to a select group of general contractors, or as ‘open-to-all.’”

Some of the advantages of designbid-build include its single point of responsibility for construction, compliance with public bidding policies, construction documents that clearly define the scope of work, and a project cost that is established through the bidding process. As for the construction management approach, it begins with a business owner hiring a construction manager early in the planning process to provide pre-construction services; working with the architect and/or engineer (under separate contracts with the owner) to establish the project program, constructability, and schedule; and establish benchmark budgets in a team environment. “With a design-build approach, a business hires, under a single contract, the construction manager and design professional, which combine services to provide a single point of accountability for the entire project,” explained Justin. “The entity is responsible for delivering both the design documents and completing construction according to the owner’s requirements. Some advantages of this approach are that the contractor has input during design, the price is guaranteed, there is a single point of responsibility for construction, and design and construction can overlap to accelerate project delivery. “Whichever method you choose, Cheever Construction approaches each project with consistent objectives for success. We utilize an effect schedule coupled with the quality and skill from our subcontractors and combined with our field craftsmen. Cheever takes pride in all of the relationships that we have entered into. We strive to make each project the precursor to the next project, while building a lasting relationship with everyone involved,” Justin concluded. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

Omaha’s New Construction Professionals Dean Snyder Construction (DSC) recently entered the Omaha market with over 60 years of experience and an outstanding portfolio that includes work for many Top 100 companies in the world, with projects of all sizes and levels of complexity in industries ranging from commercial and food and beverage to healthcare and industrial. We spoke to Kolton Wagaman, senior project manager, who told us a bit about what DSC has been seeing lately in terms of commercial remodeling.

Kolton Wagaman

“Lately, we have been seeing an increase Dean Snyder Construction of existing remodels/retrofits,” Kolton shared. “DSC can get creative with our design-build approach and deliver clients some relief in the form of remodels to fit their current needs, which is especially helpful in these times as certain building lead times for new construction have been rather long.” When clients choose to utilize DSC’s design-build approach to remodel their commercial space, they see several benefits. This includes a single source solution, with the design and construction services under one contract, and cost and schedule being controlled by a single entity. In addition, it’s typically the best method for fast-track projects, and subcontractor expertise can be obtained in the design process. Extend Building Longevity Stonebrook Exterior is no stranger to remodeling projects. The privately owned and operated commercial and residential exterior construction company has been seeing a growing trend of business owners opting to repurpose an existing building over building new.

“Everything that Stonebrook Exterior provides for new commercial buildings in the aspect of exterior elements, we can provide for the remodeling of existing structures to give your current building a facelift,” said Business Development M a n a ge r Tw i L e a F l e t c h e r . “ M o s t importantly, we can bring your building up to date with masonry, siding, metal wall-panel systems, and new gutter systems. This will give your company a fresh look and increase the longevity of the building for years to come.”

Curb appeal continues to be a priority for many commercial spaces. When curb appeal is up, they are more easily and quickly noticed, recognized, and remembered. In addition, owners and investors are recognizing that giving the building exterior the attention it needs will lengthen the duration of the structure and bring it up-to-date for a more professional look. Sustainable exterior wall and roofing systems will also lower the cost for strategic ownership. “We primarily self-perform our work instead of sub-contracting to others,” said TwiLea. “This makes our crews more productive which saves time overall when working to complete a project within the time allotted or requested.” Building Safety It’s vital that your remodeling plan includes the installation of updated safety features. FireGuard, Inc. offers a full array of fire-protection services, from installing new fire-alarm systems to updating or upgrading existing ones and providing increased protection for server rooms.

“FireGuard focuses solely on fire protection and life-safety solutions,” explained Engineered Systems Manager Phil O’Connell. “FireGuard eliminates the need to contact multiple companies by offering complete life safety solutions: we design, sell, install, inspect, and service all types of fire protection and life safety equipment.” Phil said that when businesses undertake remodeling, it’s important for them to know that their fire systems must be altered, as well, to maintain code-compliant protection.

Phil O’Connell FireGuard, Inc.

“My advice to those who are looking to remodel for the first time is to do their research,” Phil said. “Remodeling can provide an exciting new space to work in and boost employee morale and production, but understand that there can be additional requirements and costs associated when it comes to life-safety systems.” That said, there are times when remodels won’t affect your company’s or organization’s safety systems, but you don’t know if you don’t verify. By knowing what you’ll need to do ahead of time when laying out the budget for a remodel, you’ll be more likely to avoid any surprises late in the project. “These systems save energy, lower operational costs, and enable productive and secure environments,” explained Owner Pa t Killeen. “Our building automation platforms connect your HVAC, lighting, and safety and security systems, connecting them to each other on a single platform. This gives you information to make better decisions, save money, and improve the way your building functions.” When conducting commercial remodeling, Engineered Controls can help you implement energy solutions to save money. As most building owners know, energy is the single largest expense in a building’s total operating budget. In fact, 30% is used inefficiently or unnecessarily. One of the best ways to keep those costs down is to develop a comprehensive strategy to reduce energy use. Pat Killeen Engineered Controls

“We offer a comprehensive energy evaluation program for our customers where our Energy and Environmental Optimization (EEO) program certified professionals are equipped with the training, tools, and experience to quickly assess your building’s current state and consult with you on the goals and objectives of your energy efficiency project,” Pat said. “Our EEO professionals participate in a rigorous training program learning how to guide building owners and managers through a structured process of analysis and discovery.” Engineered Controls’ EEO program software identifies poorly performing buildings and then provides and automates corrective actions. Their EEO certified professionals can help accelerate implementation of the most popular energy conservation measures to optimize your facility. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

BRINGING YOUR BUILDINGS TO LIFE

Langer Electric is another reputable contractor who can help you find ways to save energy, in addition to ensuring that all of your upgrades are code-compliant and safe for employees. Langer is a licensed, bonded, and insured electrical company serving the Omaha region that prides itself on delivering exceptional customer service and building relationships with customers because, if you own a business, you’ll certainly need electric work more than just during your remodel. You can bet you’ll be treated well, because Langer wants your business for life. “The hottest trend is upgrading everything to LED,” said Owner Chris Langer. “LEDs use 90% less electricity than the standard incandescent bulb, so you’re getting more light for less power. Also, Wi-Fi switches are continually improving. People can install and control everything throughout their house, including security cameras. It’s like a one-stop-shop that can all be controlled through an app on an iPad or smartphone. It’s pretty much standard these days to have 24/7 surveillance of your property sent right to your phone.”

Co-owner Lallenia Birge says that what makes Big Birge Plumbing different than many other companies is its personal investment in getting it right every time. “A lot of people and owners say they care, but we deep-down want to do the right Lallenia Birge thing and always have,” shared Lallenia. “Yes, making a profit is rewarding, but that’s not why we are in business. We started this business because we saw a need for plumbers that do quality work and are honest. We want our customers to be treated right. We hire the people on our team who are honest, hardworking, qualified, and care about others.” Lallenia and her husband and co-owner, Brad Birge, often are asked about making things “cheaper,” but they warn that the problem with cheaper plumbing is that it will cost more in the long run. “Our advice is to hire real plumbers and pay for quality plumbing installations and fixtures,” Lallenia said. “Your plumbing system is something that is used every day, multiple times throughout the day. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and do your research before just hiring the least-expensive plumber.” For Restoration Needs Sometimes it’s not remodeling that needs done to your commercial space, but rather restoration. In that case, give McGill Restoration a call. The extremely skilled and reputable restoration service has worked for many of Nebraska’s most notable companies, and they continue to see geographical growth with projects and clients located throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Ben Russell McGill Restoration

According to Vice President of Operations Ben Russell, one of the biggest trends in commercial remodeling today is preservation of aging buildings in the area—and you can’t overestimate the importance of research in preparing for a restoration project. That research is the key to how you go about restoring a building and how authentic your end result is.

“Restoration requires an in-depth understanding of a structure’s history and details,” Ben said. “Researching the building, the materials, and the best techniques is essential to providing a beautifully restored project,” Ben added. “Asking the right questions helps you plan properly: When was it built? What is it going to be used for in the future? These questions will provide a lot of answers to the type of materials that must be used in its restoration. When it comes to the planning and execution of a project, consulting with industry experts alleviates a lot of headaches.” For those who are considering a project that involves restoration of any kind, as a rule of thumb, McGill suggests that you make sure to take into account how the existing structure will need to be modified to accommodate re-design. While McGill specializes in giving the exterior of aging buildings a complete facelift, they also consult on a lot of projects involving modifications to the interior of older buildings. Earlier this year, McGill acquired Wilkinson Sandblasting, an industrial coating and restoration company in central Nebraska, as well as Commercial Waterproofing, a concrete waterproofing business with offices in Oklahoma City and Wagoner, OK. The combination of McGill with these two businesses equips them to deliver outstanding year-round, scalable restoration capabilities. Ready to start taking out those walls and ripping up that flooring? We suggest first putting on some safety glasses and reaching out to these local remodeling businesses. Your priorities are their priorities, and you’ll find yourself in your ideal workspace after partnering with these contractors.

SENIOR SENIOR HEALTH HEALTH

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services established the Administration for Community Living (ACL) to advance independence, integration, and inclusion throughout life. ACL recently honored Older Americans Month in May, with this year’s theme being “Age My Way”. The theme encouraged older adults and their family to explore the many ways seniors can continue to be an active part of their communities.

Citizens led to designating May as ‘Senior Citizens Month,’ the prelude to ‘Older Americans Month.’ “Historically, Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons to our country, in particular those who defended our country. Every President since Kennedy has issued a formal proclamation during or before the month of May asking that the entire nation pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities. Older Americans Month is celebrated across the country through ceremonies, events, fairs, and other such activities.”

Below is short summary of the history of Older Americans Month, taken from the ACL website (acl.gov): “When Older Americans Month was established in 1963, only 17 million living Americans had reached their 65th birthday. About a third of older Americans lived in poverty and there were few programs to meet their needs. Interest in older Americans and their concerns was growing. A meeting in April 1963 between President John F. Kennedy and members of the National Council of Senior

“Services we provide include everything from convenient access to skilled nursing to activities of daily living—whatever is necessary to maintain a safe and secure living environment,” said Marking Director Don Woods. “We give our residents restaurant-quality dining with multiple options for every meal, three times a day. We also offer hospitality services, such as regular housekeeping, scheduled transportation for social events, exciting social programs, and more.” Prairie Meadows doesn’t forget about the mind, body, and soul, either; they provide occupational, physical, and speech therapy; group exercise classes; community outings; religious services; and interactive learning. They have created an environment for memory care residents that encourages autonomy and self-expression, provides a structure which supports memory retention, and ensures each resident’s healthcare and long-term care needs are met. “We operate a program called Meaningful Memories for our residents who have Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia challenges,” explained Don. “Through this program, we get to know our residents by learning their life stories and finding out their preferences, including likes, dislikes, family, hobbies, careers, achievements, and cherished memories. People living with memory loss face greater challenges than most of us, but that doesn’t mean that they’ve lost the ability to experience joy and continue leading meaningful lives. If they have a favorite restaurant where they always went to have their favorite pie, for example, Prairie Meadows will make sure they still get to enjoy that.” In addition to the variety of amenities and programming options Prairie Meadows offers to keep residents active and engaged, the facility has a nurse available 24/7, far above and beyond the minimal regulations of eight hours a day. Prairie Meadows also partners with home health services, hospice services, and anything they need to provide the necessary elements that will allow families to rest assured that their loved one is safe and cared for.

Professional Caregiving Services CCA Home Care is home to Nebraska’s largest in-home care registry. All of their caregivers are CNAs who work directly for the client. The client is 100% in control of their caregiver schedule, and CCA Home Care does not require any minimum of hours or financial deposit to begin services. Owner Kyle Johnson shared that clients they begin services with are typically just starting to notice the difficulties of living independent in their own homes, and are starting to need assistance with their ADLs (Activities of Daily Living). “Seniors need to stay active, both mentally and physically,” said Kyle. “Watching TV and sitting in a recliner all day doesn’t lead to a healthy lifestyle. Getting involved with a local senior center will help with socialization, and going for short walks will help to maintain leg strength. The saying ‘use it or lose it’ is something I commonly say when working with families who are noticing a recent decline in their parent’s health.” Kyle firmly believes that when families procrastinate on considering the need for senior care, they only add unnecessary financial and emotional burden to their lives. “We typically see seniors wait too long to accept help due to fear of losing their independence,” Kyle shared. “Adult children are noticing these signs before the senior does, but hesitate to get outside help for fear of upsetting their parents. This is a dangerous scenario of waiting for the ‘major incident’ to happen before getting help in the home. Typically, this results in a hospital stay that could have been avoided with a couple helping hands.” CCA Home Care also provides a valuable resource to the Omaha community through the production of their ElderCare Resource Handbook. The handbook is an all-inclusive listing of services, programs, and other resources available for the aging in each

Many of our caregivers are certified and all undergo background verification for your safety. We also have compassionate and attentive bedside sitters for companionship and reassurance, Desiree Rossi whether sitting at the bedside in the Key Home Care hospital setting or helping your family member adjust to the new setting of a nursing home or assisted living. Another local business that offers helpful products for those who are aging is See The Trainer. At See The Trainer, you can find a selection of products designed to help seniors navigate their day-to-day lifestyle or recover and rehabilitate after major surgeries or injuries. “Our products include canes, sock aids, bathroom accessories, and more,” said Owner Kristie Egan. “We have a variety of helpful products that can assist someone going through rehabilitation after a major surgery or injury so that they can safely get back to their normal routine as soon as possible!” See The Trainer is also great for seniors who simply want to lead a more active lifestyle. According to the CDC, adults Kristie Egan 65 years of age and older who are See the Trainer generally fit and do not have limiting health conditions should get 150 minutes of aerobic activity per week, and work on muscle-strengthening at least twice a week to prevent many of the health problems that seem to come with age. This also grows one’s muscles to allow them to continue to perform their day-to-day activities without becoming dependent on others. See The Trainer has lots of great products that can help you incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Everyone should be prioritizing their health, especially so as one ages. We recommend utilizing the amazing services and products offered by these outstanding senior living businesses!

Helpful Products for the Home As seniors age, it may become more difficult for them to use the storage in their kitchen, pantry, bathroom, or closet. Things become more difficult to take off the shelves or to put away, especially if it requires getting down on one’s knees. This is where ShelfGenie comes in. “ShelfGenie provides custom pullout shelves that retrofit existing or new cabinets, typically in the kitchen, pantry, or bathrooms,” explained Jay Durmaskin, franchise coowner. “We also design custom closets and storage solutions that can be done in any area of the home. We provide better access to your cabinets and closets. No more having to get down on your hands and knees to find what’s in your cabinets.” To get started with ShelfGenie, a designer will visit your home to generate a 3D rendering of your custom solution in real time. This is used to build your custom-made designs and provide an estimate right there on the spot. After production is finished, an installer returns to your home to put the product in place, and you can enjoy your newly organized space by dinnertime! Jay Durmaskin ShelfGenie

“We encourage you to plan ahead for the time in your life where you may begin to have a little trouble getting around by implementing our solutions into your home,” encouraged Jay. “Even if you aren’t able to plan ahead, you don’t have to worry about waiting months to have our shelves arrive; you can expect to have the product produced and installed in your home within four to six weeks after your original consultation, and installation takes less than a day.” #PrintProudDigitalSmart
