Not every business owner thinks of themselves as someone who would go back to “school.” For a lot of people, that chapter feels closed or unnecessary. But what’s happening at the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Metropolitan Community College is quietly changing that perception.

Located in the Ashton Building at Millwork Commons (1106 N. 12th St.), the SBDC offers free consulting and workshops that are open to the public. That alone makes it more approachable. There’s no pressure, no big barrier to entry, just an open door for people who want to figure things out, ask questions or take the next step in their business.

“When you’re at Millwork Commons, it doesn’t feel like college in the traditional sense,” said Dr. Marla Ashe, executive director of the MCC SBDC. “Many business owners never imagine being ‘students’ again, but the SBDC turns these same owners into students to grow their business and learn skills they never imagined helping their business in the way they do.”

That’s really the difference. This isn’t about sitting through lectures that may or may not apply to your life. It’s about learning things you can actually use… right away. The kind of skills that show up in how you run your business the next day, not someday.

The 10-week FastTrac Entrepreneurship and Business Development course takes that a step further. Offered on weekends and evenings, participants leave with a business plan and a roadmap for growth. And at the end, there’s a Business Pitch Competition where one participant walks away with seed money to grow or start their business.

There’s also a bigger intention behind all of this.

“When I was the dean of business, I asked how do I make this curriculum relevant to the community in a way that surpasses the walls of a classroom,” Ashe said.

You can feel that in how the SBDC operates. It’s designed to be practical, giving individuals a way in that actually makes sense for where they are today.

The MCC SBDC is also accredited through the Small Business Administration (SBA), and works alongside the Nebraska SBDC at UNO, while still maintaining its own focus and independence on serving its students and local business community.

“Many people say you can’t be everything to everyone all the time,” Ashe said. “But the SBDC tries to be that—for business owners, entrepreneurs, and students alike.”

If you’ve been trying to figure things out on your own, this is one of those resources that’s worth knowing about. The next FastTrac course begins June 13.

Omaha Inland Port Authority Launched Funding Opportunities to Drive Economic Liberation in North & East Omaha

The Omaha Inland Port Authority (OIPA) announced a coordinated set of funding opportunities and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) designed to accelerate economic growth, expand access to capital, and create long-term pathways to ownership and opportunity across North and East Omaha.

This release included the launch of the OIPA Impact Fund alongside three strategic RFPs focused on housing, small business development, and community engagement—advancing OIPA’s mission of turning investment into impact.

K2 Holistic Health is Changing Healthcare

K2 Holistic Health was founded on the idea of treating the root cause of an issue, rather than addressing just the isolated symptoms. Jason Howe, the CEO of K2 Holistic Health, stated, “Our name was very intentional. Our biggest passion is to help patients regain their Kinetics (movement) and their Kinesthetics (the neurology behind the movement). We do this by taking the best of the medical world, physical therapy world and chiropractic world, and integrating them all into one collaborative team that works together for each of our patients.”

In addition to treating orthopedic and neuropathy issues, one key concept to K2 Holistic Health is how peptide therapy is changing healthcare. K2 believes that virtually all of human pathology is the final result of a very simple process: pathogens, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, all leading to the three physiological failures of systemic inflammation, insulin resistance and mitochondrial dysfunction. K2 Holistic Health offers medical grade peptides with physician oversight to specifically target these very causes and failures, so they can reverse symptoms like fatigue, weakness, weight gain, poor sleep, cognitive decline and mood regulation problems. There are no pushy sales tactics. There is just straightforward access to the best peptides from local medical professionals who specialize in this field, with labs and follow-up visits to ensure your best care.

Greater Omaha Chamber Releases Report on Child Care’s Impact on Workforce & Economy

Empowerment Network’s Village Readers Program Advances Literacy, Mentorship in Omaha Schools

The Greater Omaha Chamber released a new report, Working Families, Working Economy: An Examination of the Economic Impact, Supply and Demand of the Child Care System in the Greater Omaha Chamber Region, providing a comprehensive analysis of how child care availability directly affects workforce participation and economic growth across the region. Commissioned with First Five Nebraska, the report examines the relationship between child care access, affordability, and workforce dynamics across the Chamber’s eight-county, twostate region. Findings highlight the critical role child care plays in supporting working families and enabling businesses to grow, expand, and compete.

The report finds that inadequate child care has a significant economic impact on the region, including an estimated $1.02 billion in lost business output, $919.2 million in lost labor income, and nearly 3,909 fewer jobs annually. These impacts stem from workforce disruptions such as absenteeism, employee turnover, and reduced labor force participation.

“Across our ongoing engagement with employers, the Greater Omaha Chamber consistently hears that workforce availability remains a primary factor influencing business growth, expansion, and retention decisions,” said Heath Mello, President & CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber.

The analysis also identifies a gap between supply and demand, with approximately 4,730 more children needing care than available licensed child care slots across the region. Additional findings underscore the real-world challenges facing families and employers, including difficulty accessing affordable care and employers citing child care access as a barrier to hiring and workforce stability.

More information and the full report are available at omahachamber.org.

OsteoStrong Introduces REMS Echolight Technology for Advanced Bone Health Assessment

The Village Readers program, Empowerment Network’s community reading initiative, is turning classroom read-alouds into a broader strategy for literacy, mentorship and community engagement in Omaha elementary schools.

The program brings volunteers into classrooms to read with students, spark conversation and help make books a more meaningful part of the school day. The program also gives adults a simple, practical way to connect with young people while supporting one of the community’s urgent educational priorities.

Village Readers aligns with Omaha Public Schools’ Moonshot campaign, which centers on helping all students read at grade level and strengthening academic outcomes for the future. It also reflects Empowerment Network’s Transformation 2030 goal of ensuring 100% of students read on grade level, reinforcing a shared commitment to educational excellence.

“Village Readers is off to an amazing start,” says Curtis Morgan, My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) manager, Empowerment Network. “The program has reached nearly a dozen classrooms and has impacted between 160 and 180 students. Our goal is to expand to 12 elementary schools in North Omaha and use classroom reading as an entry point for deeper volunteer involvement.”

That next phase includes garnering the involvement of additional community partners and recruiting more one-on-one mentors to help schools build lasting relationships with students and families. The work also aligns with the MBK’s framework by encouraging academic growth, trusted adult relationships and school-community connections. The initiative supports long-term student success while helping create the safe, supportive environments young people need to thrive.

OsteoStrong Omaha Regency is bringing a new level of innovation to the local wellness community with the introduction of REMS Echolight, a cutting-edge, non-invasive technology designed to provide a more complete picture of bone health.

REMS Echolight uses ultrasound technology (eliminating the need for radiation) to measure not only bone density, but also bone strength. This offers a more comprehensive understanding of overall skeletal health, supporting earlier detection and more proactive management of conditions such as osteoporosis.

Unlike traditional bone density scans, REMS Echolight does not require a doctor’s order, making it more accessible for individuals who want to take a preventative approach to their health. The technology is safe for all ages and can be used as a tool for prevention, early diagnosis and ongoing monitoring.

OsteoStrong Omaha Regency is currently the only location in the area offering REMS Echolight, providing an exclusive opportunity for individuals to experience this advanced assessment firsthand. Appointments are required, but those interested are encouraged to visit the OsteoStrong Omaha Regency location to learn more about REMS Echolight and explore the facility.

Daake Celebrates 25 Years by Talking About Something Other Than Itself

Daake, a brand strategy and design firm founded in 2001, is marking its 25th year by acknowledging a simple truth: This is not about them.

Over the past two and a half decades, the firm has worked with organizations trying to make sense of growth, change, and the uncomfortable gap between who they are and how they show up.

The work is rarely glamorous. It’s slower than most expect. It involves asking questions no one really wants to answer and staying in the tension long enough to find something real.

At its best, the outcome is not a new brand. It’s a clearer one. A more aligned one. A truer one.

Which raises an awkward realization:Most brand work isn’t failing because of bad design. It’s failing because no one told the truth. Daake has built a reputation on trying to do exactly that. Not perfectly. Just consistently. 25 years in, the goal remains unchanged: You finally have the conversation that transforms the business. Everything else is decoration.

SipNebraskaHighlightsStatewideEconomic Impact While Supporting Veteran Led Nonprofit at 13th Annual Festival

Blur Events announces a new focus for its 13th annual Sip Nebraska Spring Festival: the event’s growing economic impact across the state and its continued partnership with Bravo Zulu Adventure Group, a veteran founded nonprofit supporting first responders, healthcare workers, and their families.

Sip Nebraska has become a significant driver of tourism and small business revenue, drawing thousands of attendees to Mahoney State Park each spring. With more than 24 breweries, wineries, cideries, and distilleries participating, the festival generates meaningful sales for Nebraska makers — many of whom travel from rural communities such as Scottsbluff, Imperial, and Syracuse.

“Every year, Sip Nebraska brings together small businesses from across the state, and the economic ripple effect is real,” said Stacy Leners, founder of Blur Events. “From lodging at one of Nebraska largest state parks, Eugene T. Mahoney, to food trucks, artisans, and beverage producers, this festival fuels local revenue while giving Nebraskans a chance to support homegrown makers.”

At the heart of this year’s event is Bravo Zulu Adventure Group, returning for its second year. Founded by veterans, the nonprofit provides outdoor adventures and community events for first responders and healthcare workers — groups that often face high stress and burnout. Sip Nebraska will feature Bravo Zulu’s skydiving demonstrations, and opportunities for attendees to meet the team behind the organization.

The festival runs Friday, May 8, 4–9 p.m., and Saturday, May 9, 1–9 p.m. (Early Access at 11 a.m.). Tickets and full details are available at blurevents.com. Lodging at Mahoney State Park is available. Sponsorships remain open; contact (402) 882-2448.

Quasar Drive-In Announces its 2026 Season

The Quasar Drive-In Theater will open its 2026 season as one of the few newly built drive-in theaters in the world, continuing the revival of a classic American moviegoing experience. Opening this season, for the first time ever, it has two screens running new releases every weekend.

Originally started on open farmland in 2020, the project marks its 6-year construction anniversary this week. Through years of handson work and community support, Quasar Drive-In has grown into a modern Twin Theater, offering First-run double features, familyfriendly entertainment, and a gathering place that blends nostalgia with new memories.

In 1957, there were more than 5,000 drive-in theaters across the United States. Today, fewer than 290 remain worldwide. Quasar Drive-In is family owned, operated and built from the ground up, all rarities in modern cinema exhibition.

The theater hosts weekend double-feature movies, swap meets, free community movie events, and fundraisers supporting local organizations. Its mission is simple: provide clean, affordable entertainment where families and friends can spend time together outdoors.

“We built Quasar to create something lasting for the community,” said owner Jeff Karls. “Drive-ins are part of American culture, and we wanted to make sure that this experience continues for future generations.” More information is available at quasardrivein.com.

MCC to Host Open House for Small Business Development Center May 6

KindredCFICelebrates4Yearsof Supporting Youth with IDD on May 5

Metropolitan Community College’s business development education programs offered at the MCC at The Ashton location have received a federal designation as a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA designation integrates the MCC SBDC into a national network of approximately 1,000 centers dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs and small business growth.

A ribbon cutting and open house event on Wednesday, May 6, from 10 a.m.-noon at the MCC at The Ashton location (1106 N. 12th St.) will celebrate the new community resource — the second federally designated SBDC in Nebraska. The event, which coincides with National Small Business Month, is free and open to the public.

By joining the SBA network, the MCC SBDC can provide small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with greater access to free and low-cost entrepreneurship education, services and resources.

Dr. Marla Ashe, executive director of the MCC SBDC, said supporting small business owners is critical to workforce development. According to U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, 99% of Nebraska businesses are small businesses, providing more than 48% of jobs in the state.

“The MCC Small Business Development Center is designed to be a place where people who have the aspirations and skills to open their own businesses can find the resources, education and partners they need to be successful,” Ashe said.

The MCC SBDC provides free, 1-on-1 consulting services on topics like business planning, financial projections, access to capital, marketing strategy, operations and regulatory compliance. Trained business advisors work directly with clients to develop growth strategies and navigate challenges at every stage of business development. Nocost and low-cost workshops on essential topics such as e-commerce, management and legal issues are also offered.

Daphne Cook, director of the MCC SBDC, said business education courses at the center are designed to be flexible for busy entrepreneurs. MCC SBDC programming can also be tailored to address local business needs.

“We want the people to get the training they need when they need it while having the flexibility to focus on other priorities for their business when they need to,” Cook said.

Following the ribbon cutting event, a series of presentations that highlight resources available for the public will begin at the top of each hour, starting at 11 a.m. The open house wraps up with a networking event and tours at 3 p.m. Sessions will cover the following topics:

• 11 a.m. — How to Become a Client of the MCC SBDC

• Noon — FastTrac Entrepreneurship and Business Education Program

• 1 p.m. — Navigating Resources

• 2 p.m. — Access to Capital

• 3 p.m. — Networking and Tours

“We encourage every small business owner, aspiring entrepreneur and anyone considering starting a business to join us for the grand opening,” Ashe said. “This is an opportunity to discover how our center can help turn business ideas into reality and support existing businesses in reaching their full potential.”

ActionCOACH ExcelEDGE: From Written Procedures to Working Systems

Most Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) fail for a simple reason; they only document steps, not the full process. According to insights from Coach Carter Krei, with ActionCOACH ExcelEDGE, effective SOPs must go beyond “what to do” and clearly define inputs, outputs, responsibilities, tools, and handoffs to truly drive performance.

A strong SOP creates consistency, protects key performance indicators, and accelerates onboarding. They ensure every team member understands not just their task, but how their work connects to the broader workflow. Without this clarity, businesses face delays, miscommunication, and costly errors; especially at transition points between team members.

To be effective, SOPs should include six essential elements: people, equipment, supplies, information, technology, and handoffs. Each step should answer critical questions such as what success looks like, why the task matters, and who is responsible for the next action. This transforms SOPs from static documents into practical tools teams actually use.

This is where ActionCOACH makes a measurable impact. ActionCOACH business coaches work with owners and leadership teams to design SOPs that are not only documented, but operationalized. By focusing on clarity, accountability, and workflow integration, the coaches help businesses reduce inefficiencies, improve training, and build scalable systems.

The result is a more productive, aligned team and a business that runs with greater consistency and confidence.

NewAgingCoalitionLaunchesinNorthPlatte to Strengthen Support for Seniors

A new Aging Coalition has launched in North Platte, bringing together local organizations, professionals, and community members dedicated to supporting the area’s aging population.

Spearheaded by Jen Caudillo, Community Liaison and Resource Coordinator for Caretech, and Dalene Skates, Business Development Advisor for Home Instead, the coalition aims to foster collaboration, share resources, and improve access to care for seniors across the region.

The coalition’s mission is to support the aging population through community connection, shared knowledge, and collaborative partnerships. Through this initiative, members exchange ideas, build relationships, and help ensure seniors and their families can access the services they need.

“North Platte has long been surrounded by strong coalitions in neighboring communities, but we identified a critical gap locally,” said Caudillo. “This group helps bridge that gap—because if one of us can’t help, we know someone who can. We are truly better together.”

The coalition offers opportunities for educational programming, guest speakers, networking, and community involvement while increasing awareness of local resources for seniors.

The inaugural meeting was held on Tuesday, March 24, with strong community participation. The coalition will now meet monthly on the last Tuesday at noon, with local organizations encouraged to host meetings and showcase how they support seniors in the community.

Omaha Initiative Redefines Recognition for Essential Workforce

Workplace engagement is declining globally, yet one of its most overlooked drivers remains unchanged: recognition. To address this gap, the inaugural Omaha IMPACT Awards are calling for final nominations through May 15th, 2026.

Founded by military spouse LaPora Lindsey, the awards specifically target the unsung workers of Douglas and Sarpy county economy— individuals in frontline, operational, and blue-collar roles whose essential work often remains under-recognized because it lacks traditional corporate visibility.

“Recognition has real consequences for retention and performance,” said Lindsey. “When people doing essential frontline work don’t feel seen, engagement drops. These awards are about shifting how we define impact to ensure the health of our local workplaces.”

The initiative is currently seeking nominations from the public for “unsung heroes” across Douglas and Sarpy County, including delivery drivers, technicians, retail staff, and janitorial leads. The goal is to honor those whose daily contributions are essential to organizational success, regardless of job title or seniority.

The inaugural Omaha IMPACT Awards event will be held in September 2026, but the community must act now to ensure their local heroes are in the running. Nominations are open until May 15th at omahaimpactawards.com.

Shared Cyber Insurance Gains Traction as MSPsandClientsSeekFastIncidentResponse

As cyber threats continue to escalate, a growing number of businesses and Managed Service Providers (MSPs), such as Integrated MSP, are exploring a lesser-known strategy: aligning under the same cyber insurance carrier. Industry experts say the approach can streamline response efforts, reduce disputes, and strengthen overall cybersecurity posture. When both an MSP and its customer are insured by the same provider, incident response tends to move faster. Carriers already familiar with the MSP’s systems, tools, and processes can more quickly coordinate forensic teams, legal counsel, and remediation efforts which are critical advantages during ransomware attacks or data breaches.

Another key benefit is the reduction of “finger-pointing” between insurers. In incidents involving third-party IT providers, questions of liability can delay recovery. A shared insurer eliminates much of this friction by maintaining a unified view of responsibility, helping avoid coverage disputes and gaps.

The model also encourages consistency in cybersecurity standards. Insurers often require baseline protections such as multi-factor authentication, endpoint detection, and secure backups across both MSPs and their clients, leading to stronger defenses on both sides. While experts caution that businesses must still carefully review policy limits and exclusions, the trend reflects a broader shift toward integrated risk management.

In today’s high-stakes threat environment, shared cyber insurance is emerging as a practical way to align incentives, accelerate response, and improve resilience.

If you would like to learn more, please contact Integrated MSP at imsp.net or Alan Summers at (531) 600-3188.

Budget Blinds of Omaha & Lincoln Helps Homeowners Create Spaces They Love

This is What EPIC Option Really Means for Nebraskans

For most people, taxes aren’t something you think about until they start to feel… heavy.

And lately, in Nebraska, that’s been the reality. Property valuations keep rising, and with that, so do tax bills. For homeowners, farmers and business owners, it’s not just frustrating, it’s becoming unsustainable.

That’s where the EPIC Option comes in.

At its core, the EPIC Option is a proposal to completely change how Nebraska collects taxes. It would eliminate property taxes, income taxes and inheritance taxes, and shift the system to rely mostly on sales and excise taxes instead.

That’s a big shift. And it’s why people are paying attention.

On a practical level, it would change how and when you’re taxed. Instead of being taxed on what you earn or own, you’d be taxed more on what you spend. For many, especially those feeling the pressure of rising property taxes, that idea brings a sense of relief.

Budget Blinds of Omaha & Lincoln has been helping homeowners put together spaces they truly love since 2013. They’re locally owned and cover Omaha, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, and the surrounding metro area. They believe the right window coverings can quietly change how a room feels, whether that’s better sleep with room-darkening shades or a warmer look with woven wood blinds. They come to you. Every project starts with a free in-home consultation, so you can see and touch materials in your actual space instead of guessing under showroom lighting. From there, they handle everything through the installation.

On the commercial side, they run National Commercial Shading Solutions (NCSS), a Division 12 subcontractor working across Omaha, Des Moines, Nashville, and Minneapolis. Roller shades, automated systems, draperies, fully custom work, they self-perform all of it. Their project managers get involved early, from preconstruction budgeting through commissioning; because that’s where problems get prevented. The ownership team comes from a variety of backgrounds as well—service, advertising, engineering—which shows up in how they run things. They care as much about the installation going smoothly as they do about the design looking perfect for your space.

They also donate a portion of every residential sale to the Nebraska CASA Association, to support the underserved children of our community. For more information about Budget Blinds of Omaha & Lincoln, visit budgetblinds.com.

Property taxes have been one of the biggest concerns. In some areas, valuations have jumped significantly over the past few years, increasing the financial strain on people just trying to maintain what they already have.

But the impact goes beyond individual tax bills. Supporters believe removing income and property taxes could make Nebraska more competitive, helping attract businesses, keep workers here and support long-term growth.

At the same time, this isn’t a small adjustment. It’s a full reset of how the state funds things like schools, roads, and local services. When a change is this big, it naturally raises questions about how everything balances out and that’s part of why this matters.

The EPIC Option isn’t something being decided behind closed doors. It’s a ballot initiative, which means Nebraskans themselves would vote on it. Right now, the focus is on gathering signatures and building support, with plans to bring it back for a future ballot.

So whether you’re for it, against it or just trying to understand it, this is one of those issues that directly affects how people live, work and plan for the future here.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about taxes.

It’s about what’s sustainable and what kind of system works for us and our neighbors.

Tell us a little about your business. - At OsteoStrong, we are about helping people take a proactive approach to their bone health. OsteoStrong is a scientifically designed system that helps stimulate the body’s natural ability to strengthen bones, muscles, and joints through brief, guided sessions. Our goal is to provide a safe and effective way for people to improve their skeletal strength and maintain an active, independent lifestyle.

How did you get started in the business? - About four years ago, I had an acquaintance who drove nearly five hours round trip every week just to participate in an OsteoStrong session. Seeing that level of commitment made me curious, and I witnessed firsthand how much it was improving her quality of life. As I learned more about the impact it was having, I truly felt God placed this opportunity in front of me so that others here could experience the same benefits.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Starting over at age 53 on an entirely new career path. Launching a business that almost no one in Omaha had even heard of at the time was scary. But believing in the impact OsteoStrong could have on people’s lives made it a risk worth taking.

Best piece of advice: Simply choose to do the right thing all the time. At the end of the day, you can lay your head down and know you have no regrets.

Unfortunately I lost my mother a few years ago to metastatic breast cancer and my father has Parkinson’s. I have amazing three sets of aunts and uncles, and one cousin, all of whom I am lucky to have a close relationship with. My husband has one niece who just recently got her driver’s license and a nephew currently in college and I am so proud of them.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - On my day off, I like to spend time with my dogs and just sit back and read.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I enjoy watching anime, reading manga, and playing video games and I love learning about ghosts and the supernatural from other countries.

Who inspires you? - Anyone who steps out of their comfort zone to advocate for others and what is right are truly inspiring.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice? - Put yourself in another person’s “shoes” before passing judgement is one I do my best to follow. We do not know everyone’s story and every story is unique and we should not dismiss anyone until we look at all the information.

Which talent would you most like to have? - The ability to draw or play music. I always wanted to learn how to play the violin and I would love to be able to put on paper what is in my imagination.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I always wanted to be a graphic/digital artist, but I also would love to have been a librarian.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Special Olympics has a special place in my heart from when I was a child.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman.

What is your favorite movie? - The original Ghostbusters!

What is your favorite TV show? - Futurama.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - I would love to meet Sherlock Holmes, but since he is not a real person, I would say Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - I can be reached at renee@caretechinc.com if anyone would like to contact me.

ROBIN

Robin Larsen is the President/CEO of Cobalt Credit Union.

Tell us a little about your business. - Cobalt Credit Union was founded in 1946, when 12 individuals came together to support military personnel and their families connected to Offutt Air Force Base. That small, purpose-driven beginning laid the foundation for what has become a trusted financial partner in our community for the past 80 years. The values of service, discipline, and trust continue to guide us today, both in how we support military members and their families and how we serve our broader community. During the government shutdown, we provided more than $500,000 in zerointerest loans to support members facing financial uncertainty. We also stay closely connected through leadership roles and partnerships with organizations like the Defense Credit Union Council and the Offutt Advisory Council.

How did you get started in the business? - We’ve evolved significantly, but we’ve stayed grounded in our purpose. I’ve been with Cobalt for 37 years, and I started working in banking when I was 16. I remember when ATMs were first introduced and thinking, “who is going to use that?” We’ve combined technology with a strong focus on financial education and personal service. Whether a member is using mobile banking, voice banking (Coby), or sitting down with one of our team members, they’re getting both access and guidance.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Staying ahead of the rapidly evolving fraud landscape and ensuring our members are informed and protected. We provide ongoing updates to our members on emerging fraud and prevention strategies through seminars, social media, emails, our website, and messaging. We are expanding our efforts by launching “Lunch and Learn” sessions to give members the opportunity to better understand current fraud risks and how to protect themselves.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?Recognizing the impact we can have on our members and the community. That realization shifted my focus beyond traditional measures of success to something more meaningful, helping people navigate their financial journeys with confidence. Whether it’s supporting members during times of uncertainty, providing assistance during a government shutdown, helping individuals achieve homeownership through options like no Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) programs, offering professional loans that support young adults as they begin their careers, or creating opportunities to build financial stability through products like our Prime Money Market and Online Prime Savings accounts, it all comes back to meeting people where they are and helping them move forward.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you or Cobalt that most people probably don’t know? - One thing many people don’t realize is that you don’t have to be in the military to join Cobalt Credit Union. While we were founded with strong military roots, today we serve a much broader community. Joining Cobalt is also a great opportunity to help people understand the credit union difference. We offer the same products and services you would expect from a traditional bank, but as a not-for-profit financial cooperative, our focus is on returning value to you. That means more competitive loan rates, better savings options and a more personalized experience. Who inspires you? - Seeing how access to tools and education can truly change someone’s path. That’s why we continue to invest in financial education, including launching Banzai, which supports individuals at every stage of life, from students in local schools to college students and adults. I’m also inspired by our employees, who bring that same level of care and commitment to every interaction.

AmericanRedCross:PrepareforSpringStorms

With spring’s arrival comes an increased likelihood of severe weather across Nebraska. The American Red Cross urges residents to take steps now to prepare for thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding and other severe weather.

The Red Cross encourages everyone to download the free Red Cross Emergency app for real time alerts, emergency guidance in English and Spanish and information on available disaster shelters and support locations.

Staying informed is critical. Individuals and families should use multiple methods to receive weather updates, including options that do not require electricity, in case of a power outage. It’s also important to understand the difference between a watch and a warning:

• WATCH: Be prepared. Severe weather is possible and conditions may worsen. Use this time to review your plan and stay alert for additional updates.

• WARNING: Take action. Severe weather is occurring, imminent or likely, and poses a threat to life or property. Move to your safe location immediately.

When thunder roars, go indoors. Seek shelter in a sturdy building, moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor and staying away from windows and doors.

Plan ahead by identifying a safe place to shelter and practicing tornado drills with your household. Safe locations include a basement, storm cellar or small interior room on the lowest floor with no windows. Mobile homes and RVs are not safe during tornadoes. If flooding is expected or occurring, be prepared to evacuate immediately if instructed by local officials. Never walk, swim or drive through floodwaters.

OmahaCelebratesAvenueScholarsDayinApril

Thanks to a proclamation by Mayor John Ewing, April 15 was officially Avenue Scholars Day in Omaha.

This year, the Omaha-based nonprofit celebrated the occasion by highlighting the impact of its summer Boot Camp program.

The month-long Boot Camps are held in June and give Scholars meaningful opportunities to explore career paths in the automotive, skilled trades, or healthcare fields. These day camps allow Scholars to build confidence in their field of choice and envision a successful future through hands-on experiences and guidance from working professionals.

Scholars are paid for their participation, and many will graduate camp with professional certifications, including OSHA or CPR certificates.

Avenue Scholars provides career coaching and support services to young people, beginning in high school and extending through career entry. The goal of the program is to guide Scholars to fulltime positions in high-demand industries that pay a living wage and offer benefits.

Mustaches for Kids Omaha Supports United Cerebral Palsy of Nebraska This May

This May, a little facial hair is making a big impact.

United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Nebraska is proud to be selected as a Bonus Charity for Mustaches for Kids Omaha—a month-long fundraiser where participants grow their best (and sometimes most questionable) mustaches while raising support for local nonprofits, all in the name of making a difference.

Beyond the laughs and lighthearted competition, every dollar raised by a UCP of Nebraska “Grower” helps support vital programming for individuals with cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities. The momentum builds all month long with weekly themed events that keep participants and supporters engaged—from Mustache Trivia on May 7 to the high-energy Mustache Melee on May 14, a Magnum P.I.-inspired Hawaiian Shirt Night on May 21, and the celebration wrapping up with the Stache Bash on May 30.

Please consider supporting a UCP of Nebraska Grower by using the QR code. Simply click “Donate Now,” search for Kenny Mixan, Ben Brodin, Ryan Kelley, or Matt Schulte, and make a gift of any amount. It’s the power of many coming together that creates a meaningful impact. If you’re feeling extra generous, we encourage you to also explore and support the other incredible charity partners involved. Hiya, the youth-led nonprofit and creative movement focused on teen mental health, belonging and suicide prevention, has been selected as a recipient of the Hershey Heartwarming Young Heroes Grant Program, administered in partnership with Youth Service America. The grant will help power Hiya’s youth-driven initiative, “Check On Your People,” a project centered on reminding teens they are seen, valued and never alone.

With this support, Hiya will mobilize young leaders across Omaha during Youth Service Month to assemble and distribute more than 200 care kits filled with encouragement tools, mental wellness resources, positive messages and items designed to help teens feel supported. Volunteers will also create handwritten follow-up postcards to continue spreading connection and kindness.

“This grant means so much because it shows that youth ideas matter,” said Alejandra Wells, founder of Hiya. “When young people are trusted to lead, real change happens. We’re grateful to Hershey and Youth Service America for believing in our vision.”

Community members are invited to help bring the project to life. Hiya is currently seeking youth volunteers, in-kind donations, and financial supporters to help expand the reach of the initiative. Needed items include journals, fidget tools, self-care products, snacks, stickers and uplifting note cards.

Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month Through Creative, Student-Centered Programming with

Completely KIDS

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Completely KIDS is proud to highlight the impact of its innovative Brick by Brick LEGO®-based curriculum, designed to support students’ socialemotional growth through creativity, collaboration, and guided reflection.

Completely KIDS has a dedicated team of four full-time mental health practitioners who provide individual and group sessions to youth and families enrolled in its programs. In 2025 alone, the organization served nearly 1,400 individuals. That number continues to grow as the need for accessible mental health support increases.

Since January, students in the “Character is Cool” group have explored kindness through collaborative LEGO builds, combining individual creations into a shared Kindness City. In February, elementary students focused on self-expression, using LEGO activities to explore identity, emotions, and personal strengths while fostering empathy among peers.

By March, students expanded these skills by identifying coping strategies and working through real-life challenges. Through guided discussions and hands-on building, participants developed and shared solutions to common school situations, including navigating social dynamics during lunch and recess.

The Brick by Brick mental health group continues to strengthen communication, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills. By pairing therapeutic practices with interactive, creative play, clinicians are seeing increased engagement, stronger peer connections, and meaningful growth in student confidence and resilience.

Educareof Omaha,Inc.PreparesCommunity Gardens with Support from National Head Start Association and The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation

Educare of Omaha, Inc., in partnership with Whispering Roots, announced the expansion of its Growing Together Gardens across all five Educare of Omaha, Inc. school locations in North and South Omaha. The gardens are part of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation and the National Head Start Association’s GroMoreGood Garden Grants initiative, which connects one million Head Start children across the country to garden education and fresh food.

Educare of Omaha, Inc. received a GroMoreGood garden grant to strengthen and expand its existing garden spaces by adding low-profile, child-accessible raised beds, container gardens, educational materials, family engagement activities, and teacher training. Grant funds will support nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, and one-time startup costs such as tools, soil improvements, and garden infrastructure that will help the program become more sustainable. Once the project is complete, Growing Together Gardens will provide five thriving outdoor learning spaces where young children can explore nature, build STEM skills, learn healthy eating habits, and connect with the natural world through sensory-rich, hands-on experiences.

“The research is clear: garden-based learning improves educational outcomes, enhances social and emotional learning, and—perhaps most importantly—engages every child’s innate wonder and care for the natural world,” NHSA Executive Director Yasmina Vinci said. “NHSA is proud of our continuing partnership with Educare of Omaha, Inc. to support experiential learning, foster curiosity, and encourage even more Head Start children and their families to learn and play outside!”

Youth Emergency Services Announces New PermanentHousingSpaceinMidtownOmaha

Youth Emergency Services (YES) has announced the establishment of a new, permanent housing space at 2566 Farnam Street, marking the relaunch of its capital campaign with an updated message: Welcome Home.

The new space on Farnam Street—to be called the YES House, a name long used by generations of youth, staff, and community members— will create a centralized location for housing and supportive services, expanding capacity and improving access to care as the demand for youth homelessness services continues to rise in Omaha. Once fully activated, the YES House will bring the organization’s housing programs, case management, and core supports together under one roof to create a more connected, responsive, and welcoming experience for young people.

“At the heart of our work, YES believes that every young person deserves a safe place to land and the support to move forward,” said Kalisha Reed, Executive Director of Youth Emergency Services. “The YES House brings that vision to life in a way that’s more connected, more responsive, and more impactful for the youth we serve.”

At full capacity, the YES House will include 24 apartments with 32 beds, offering young people safe places to land for the short- and mediumterm. In addition to housing, the YES House will offer increased access to food, a clothing boutique, onsite mental health and nursing services, and stronger connections to community partners, ensuring youth can find the care, resources, and support they need in one place—right when they need it.

The property also already houses YES administrative offices, minimizing transition costs and allowing the organization to begin utilizing the building immediately. It also includes two commercial sites with existing residential leases, which will be honored through their full term before the spaces transition to support YES programs. YES anticipates housing all staff and core services at the YES House by Fall 2027.

In the past six months, YES has served more than 1,020 unduplicated youth, surpassing last year’s 12 month total. This increase reflects both the growing community need and strengthened partnerships that have extended access to food, mental health care, and crisis services. Even with this expanded reach, limited housing capacity has required YES to turn youth away, underscoring the urgency of creating integrated spaces where young people can access support without barriers.

YES currently operates across seven active locations throughout Omaha. While this distributed model has allowed the organization to meet youth where they are, navigating multiple sites can create barriers during moments of crisis. The YES House will bring housing and services together in one permanent location, increasing efficiency and creating a more seamless, youth-centered approach.

Earlier in the campaign, YES explored new construction as part of a development in Midtown Omaha. As costs increased, the organization made the strategic decision to pursue a move-in-ready site—allowing for faster impact, the responsible stewardship of resources, and the ability to activate services in real time.

“This next chapter is about activating what’s right in front of us,” Reed added. “Even as the approach evolved, our purpose never changed. The YES House allows us to move forward with clarity and urgency, creating a place where youth can feel safe, supported, and build a path toward self-sufficiency.”

For more than five decades, YES has provided safety, stability, and opportunity to young people experiencing homelessness. The YES House represents an exciting next chapter for the organization: creating a permanent home for YES’ work and a welcoming place where youth can take their next steps forward.

MICAH House Celebrates 40 Years

MICAH House proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of impact, resilience, and community. Over the last 40 years, MICAH House has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of the families and women experiencing homelessness across the Omaha Metro and Southwest Iowa.

Founded in 1986, MICAH House began as a small shelter in a former convent. Today, it has grown into a comprehensive shelter program serving more than 700 individuals each year, providing safe shelter and critical support services to families and women facing homelessness.

MICAH House offers a unique shelter model designed to promote dignity and stability. Private family rooms, semi-private women’s rooms, and access to intensive case management, onsite childcare, and additional supportive services help remove barriers and create pathways to long-term housing and stability.

“That’s what is to be most proud of… how we’ve been able to evolve, but the one thing that’s always been constant is that we’ve been there for the people that need us,” says Philanthropy Director, Maren Larsen. “We’re 40 years in, and we plan to be here for decades to come.”

Join the Omaha Police Officers Association Foundation on July 12 at Annual Cops and Bobbers Event

Cops and Bobbers, a beloved summertime tradition where the Omaha Police Officers Association Foundation partners with the Omaha Police Northeast Precinct, will return on Sunday, July 12. The annual event invites youth ages 8 to 15 to spend an afternoon fishing at Benson Lagoon, creating meaningful opportunities for connection between young people and local law enforcement.

More than just a day of fishing, Cops and Bobbers is designed to strengthen community bonds in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Omaha Police Officers spend one on one time with participating children teaching fishing basics, sharing stories, answering questions, and simply enjoying unstructured time outdoors. These small moments of encouragement and conversation often become the foundation for trust and understanding that lasts far beyond the event itself.

Organizers expect to welcome approximately 150 children this summer. Each participant will receive a fishing pole, tackle box, bait, bobbers, weights, hooks, a water bottle, and outdoor essentials such as sunscreen and bug spray. A meal will also be provided. At the end of the afternoon, every child will head home with new gear, new memories, and a strengthened connection to their community.

To learn more or get involved, visit opoaf.org or follow the Omaha Police Officers Association Foundation on Facebook.

In March, No More Empty Pots launched Meet the Producer, a new monthly event series designed to connect community members directly with the local farmers growing food in Omaha and surrounding communities.

Held on the last Saturday of each month from March through October, the free, drop-in open house takes place inside the organization’s Micro Market storefront, located within its greenhouse facility in the Highlander neighborhood of North Omaha. The Micro Market exclusively sources its products from local growers and producers.

Each event features a local farmer or entrepreneur, giving guests the opportunity to learn about regenerative growing practices, sample products, and hear firsthand the stories that shape our regional food system. The series creates a welcoming, interactive space where attendees can ask questions and better understand how food moves from farm to table.

The inaugural event spotlighted Rhett of Peko Farms, an urban farmer cultivating more than 30 varieties of microgreens in North Omaha.

“We are happy to turn the spotlight toward the farmers and producers behind the products we offer,” said Talia McGill, President/ CEO of No More Empty Pots. “We hope the event is both educational and encourages the community to support local producers.”

Future events will continue monthly from noon to 2 p.m. on May 30, June 27, July 25, August 29, September 26, and October 31.

Meet the Producer reflects No More Empty Pots’ commitment to food systems education, community collaboration, and equitable access to fresh, locally sourced foods. More information available at nmepomaha.org.

Lily Haven recently partnered with The Kim Foundation to present at the 2026 EmPOWER Youth Summit in Bellevue, Nebraska, contributing to a day focused on strengthening youth mental health and well-being.

Sarina Thoendel, Executive Director of Lily Haven, led an interactive breakout session titled “Identifying Healthy Friendships,” centered on the guiding question: how young people can build healthy relationships and support others who may be struggling. Knowing Stroke Signs Can Save a Life When Every Minute Counts

A stroke can change a life in an instant. When symptoms begin, acting fast can help protect the brain, reduce long-term disability and save a life, according to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association.

On average, nearly 2 million brain cells die every minute a stroke goes untreated, making early recognition and treatment critical. During May, American Stroke Month, the Stroke Association is highlighting how recognizing warning signs and responding quickly can make a lifesaving difference.

When a stroke occurs, blood flow to the brain is interrupted. Calling 911 is the fastest way to receive care, and EMS can begin treatment immediately and alert the hospital stroke team.

B.E. F.A.S.T. is an easy way to remember common warning signs:

• Balance Loss: Sudden dizziness, trouble walking or loss of coordination

• Eye (Vision) Changes: Sudden vision trouble in one or both eyes

• Face Drooping: One side of the face droops or feels numb

• Arm Weakness: One arm feels weak or drifts downward

• Speech Difficulty: Slurred speech or trouble speaking

• Time to Call 911: Even if symptoms go away, call right away and note when they began

Approximately 80% of strokes are preventable. Managing blood pressure—the leading risk factor—building healthy habits and understanding personal risk can significantly reduce stroke risk. Stroke recovery is a journey, and support matters. Learn more, explore prevention tools and find survivor and caregiver resources at Stroke. org/StrokeMonth.

FDREAM HOME

or most homeowners, “dream home” starts as a feeling more than a plan. They know something isn’t working, but they’re not always sure what to change or how to get there. That’s where a lot of the stress comes from. You’re making decisions about one of your biggest assets, and you don’t want to get it wrong.

Platte + Pine Construction and Remodel understands that listening is the first step.

“That first conversation is always about listening,” says Nick Knihnisky, owner of Platte + Pine. “We walk the home together and talk through what’s working, what isn’t, and how life has changed. Maybe they have had kids and the layout no longer fits. Maybe they are empty nesters and want something simpler and more functional.”

Platte + Pine’s role is to bring clarity to that vision. They guide homeowners through a structured design process that takes them from ideas to a fully defined plan before construction ever begins. That includes layouts, selections, and 2D and 3D renderings so they can actually see their future space.

Platte + Pine specializes in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and ADUs, with a trusted team of professionals to get the job done the right way. With a one-year workmanship warranty and a 30-day check-in to see how things are going after the project is done, Platte + Pine is committed to your satisfaction long after the work is over. Knihnisky warns of the mistake homeowners—or other contractors— make by wanting to jump straight into construction.

“A remodel is already disruptive to your home. The last thing you want is making major decisions week to week while the project is underway. That is why we focus so heavily on getting everything defined upfront. It creates a much smoother experience once construction begins.”

Homeowners get excited to begin, but skipping the planning phase is usually what leads to budget overruns, delays, and a lot of unnecessary stress. Two major areas of cost that need to be addressed before construction begins are plumbing needs and new cabinetry, especially in kitchens.

Nick Knihnisky

Any time plumbing is involved, costs can increase quickly. Whether it’s relocating a kitchen sink or adding a bathroom in a basement, there’s a level of complexity behind the walls that isn’t always visible upfront. Cabinetry is usually the biggest single investment in a kitchen or wet bar. Even with semi-custom options, it’s common to see costs around $30,000 for a kitchen, and that number can climb significantly with custom designs or higher-end materials.

“That’s why we walk through those details early, so expectations and costs are clear from the beginning.”

There are so many ways to go about renovations. Whether it’s a complex project or simple changes, Platte + Pine recommends never overlooking lighting. A well-designed lighting plan adds depth, warmth, and function, and layering different types of lighting, like recessed lights, pendants, sconces, and under-cabinet lighting, can completely transform a room.

Beyond that, the biggest long-term value usually comes from improving how the home functions. Adding livable space, finishing a basement, or creating additional bedrooms or bathrooms can significantly increase both usability and resale value.

At the same time, not every improvement requires a full remodel. Simple updates like new trim, updated fixtures, or fresh paint can go a long way in refreshing a space without a large investment.

The kitchen is the heart of the home. Where the meals come together, where families begin and end each day. From making healthy habits, spending quality meal time with your family, to finding the love of cooking, your kitchen should work for you, and look the way you want it to.

Cabinet IQ of Omaha knows this better than anyone. Their team takes you through a specific, proven process to where you will know what is going on throughout the whole project. You won’t find a company that is as responsive as they are and that communicates better than them.

“We are the experts for cabinets, countertops and design,” says owner of Cabinet IQ of Omaha, Greg Allen. “We don’t try and step outside of what we know and do other parts of the kitchen. It’s not about remodeling your kitchen; it’s about bringing your dreams to realization. The kitchen is where memories are made and where most people spend their time with family and friends. We bring your vision to life to make sure that you are getting exactly what you want.”

Allen says to think about your lifestyle first before renovating. What do you and/or your family use the kitchen for the most? Thinking about cooking habits, entertaining and storage are good places to start. Most kitchens built and renovated nowadays have “zones” for prepping, cooking, cleaning and storage. When these zones are defined, the kitchen feels effortless, regardless of style.

With a trusted and experienced design team, Allen says deciding on things upfront, if possible, is the best way to begin the process.

“Changing things throughout the process can get costly,” Allen explains. “Keeping your same layout helps minimize the cost for plumbing, electrical, and gas lines. If you can keep your same appliances, do. Be sure to spend your money where it matters such as on cabinets and layouts. Other items like backsplash, hardware or lighting are easy to upgrade later.”

At Cabinet IQ, they focus on more than just cabinets—they focus on how your space lives every single day. With Cabinet IQ you will get:

• Thoughtful, functional design (not just “pretty plans”)

• A process that’s organized, clear, and stress-free

• High-quality products built to last

• Attention to detail from start to finish

Greg Allen

• A team that actually listens and tailors everything to you

“We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all or rushing projects out the door,” Allen concludes. “Every space is designed with intention—so it not only looks amazing but works effortlessly for your lifestyle. Because at the end of the day, your home should feel just as good as it looks.”

Home maintenance and restoration is just as important as renovation when it comes to changing the look of your home to better match your dreams. Lifetime Stone Restoration is a locally owned and operated business that focuses on stone restoration, bringing to life what was already there. With the use of modern equipment and expertise, Lifetime Stone Restoration can fix years of wear and tear in stone floors and countertops, tile, grout, and showers.

Though all of their services are well regarded in the community, the team at Lifetime Stone Restoration gets the most compliments about their work on stone floor and counter damage. Even newly built homes get damages, and Lifetime Stone Restoration makes them look like new. Floor restoration of floors from the 60’s-70’s are also very popular; when they are cleaned and refinished, clients often remark that it looks like a completely different floor.

Lifetime Stone Restoration reflects that there are almost too many reasons to list for why it’s a better idea to restore the stone in their homes rather than replace them. Firstly, they note it is cheaper to restore than to replace. If finances are a struggle, then they recommend this service as a less expensive option for freshening up your home. Secondly, restoration is a faster process than replacing.

Not only this, but you can walk right on the surface immediately after the job is finished, cutting the time down even more. Finally, the original installation of stone could be a rarity; for instance, the stone itself may not be quarried any more, or it may have been installed in a pattern unique to its time. Stone restoration keeps the magic of a period piece alive.

If the floors of your dream home exist under years of grime or damage, Lifetime Stone Restoration is the place to call. With their budget-friendly professional services, your floors can look like a dream. When you see what is possible with Lifetime Stone Restoration, you will be happier that you trusted the process and kept the original product.

integration of design and construction under one roof, ensuring clear communication and collaboration from start to finish,” Smith says. This streamlined approach not only reduces project timelines but also allows homeowners to benefit from a cohesive vision, budget certainty, and a single point of accountability, enhancing their overall experience and satisfaction.

“They should love their newest update and/or addition. That means each project is a partnership. Our relationship with each client will always come before the dollar.”

Kyle Smith and the Edgewater Construction team can turn your house into your dream home with more ease than you could dream of.

For many homeowners, organization starts small. A drawer in the kitchen becomes the catch-all for life’s little things. But over time, those “junk drawers” have a way of evolving into something bigger. Entire junk closests. And once that happens, the daily chaos tends to follow.

Creating your dream home is not just about how a space looks. It is about how it functions. It is about designing spaces that support your life, especially in the moments when things feel busy, messy and unpredictable.

With custom storage solutions designed and built locally, Incontro Closets & Cabinetry helps homeowners transform everyday spaces into something that feels intentional, organized and easy to live in. Their approach is simple. Every space is designed around the way you actually use it, with layouts and features that maximize storage and simplify your routine. Organization is what makes a space feel calm, usable and complete, not just beautiful.

Closets, in particular, play a bigger role than most people realize. A well-designed closet does not just store your belongings. It creates a smoother start to your day. Instead of digging through piles or searching for missing items, everything has a place and is easy to find. Most frustrations come down to wasted space and systems that don’t match how you actually live.

For parents, an organized kid’s closet can be a game changer. A child’s closet can quickly become one of the most frustrating spaces in the home. Clothes get crammed in, shoes disappear and mornings feel rushed before they even begin. And closets are not just for bedrooms.

Some of the most impactful storage solutions are found in the spaces you use the most. Mudrooms, pantries, laundry rooms, garages and living areas are where life happens. These are the spaces that tend to collect clutter but also offer the biggest opportunity for improvement. With custom shelving, pull-out storage or built-in organization, these areas can be transformed into clean, functional spaces that work with your daily routine instead of against it.

They want their designs to feel clear, functional and easy to maintain right away. More than anything, it should feel like the space finally works the way it should, designed around you and built to support how you live.

If you are a few minor changes away from your dream home, have no clue where to start, or stand anywhere between, there are companies in Omaha that know how to help. Not only are they pros at what they do, but they understand and value your home the way you do. With a focus on customer service, communication, competitive pricing and a focus on limiting the interruptions to your life during renovations, you can achieve the home of your dreams.

WOMEN’S HEALTH

Women’s health is evolving and so is the way women care for themselves. Over the years, awareness has spread for the neglected aspects of women’s healthcare and what isn’t talked about as much as it should. Women and health care providers are changing the way we look at our health and well being.

Now professionals are exploring how overall wellbeing is connected to mental, emotional and physical health and how they work closely together. How does one aspect of your body affect the others?

Women’s health is no longer one-size fits all solutions, every woman and any stage of life requires different care and support.

Whether they need physical therapy, hormone balancing, holistic approaches, bone density strengthening or even just to feel confident, there are professionals right here in Omaha ready to support their needs to find what is best for them.

OsteoStrong Omaha is gaining attention as more women look for proactive, preventative approaches to longterm health especially when it comes to bone density, strength and overall wellness. Unlike traditional fitness centers or clinical rehabilitation settings, OsteoStrong focuses specifically on skeletal health through a method known as osteogenic loading, which aims to stimulate natural bone growth and improve physical resilience.

For many women, bone health becomes an increasingly important concern with age. Conditions such as osteoporosis and osteopenia are more prevalent in women, particularly after menopause, when hormonal changes can accelerate bone density loss. This makes early intervention and consistent care critical. They also recently just added a REMS Echolight that uses ultrasound technology (eliminating the need for radiation) to measure

not only bone density, but also bone strength. This offers a more comprehensive understanding of overall skeletal health, supporting earlier detection and more proactive management of conditions such as osteoporosis.

OsteoStrong’s model offers a low-impact, time-efficient option that appeals to women who may not be interested in high-intensity workouts but still want to prioritize their long-term health.

Sessions at OsteoStrong are designed to be brief, typically around 10 minutes once per week, but highly targeted. Using specialized equipment, members perform a series of guided movements that apply safe, controlled pressure to the bones. This pressure signals the body to strengthen bone tissue and improve muscular support. The approach is rooted in the science of osteogenic loading, which suggests that bones respond positively to specific types of resistance when applied correctly.

Beyond bone density, many women are drawn to OsteoStrong for its potential benefits in improving balance, posture and joint health. These factors play a significant role in overall quality of life, particularly as women age. Increased stability and strength can reduce the risk of falls and injuries, while better posture can alleviate chronic discomfort in the back, neck and hips.

Another key aspect of OsteoStrong’s appeal is its accessibility. The program is designed for women of all ages and fitness levels, from young adults looking to build a strong foundation to older women seeking to maintain independence and mobility. Because the sessions are low-impact and do not require sweating or extensive physical exertion, they can be especially appealing for those recovering from injury or managing chronic pain.

OsteoStrong also aligns with a broader shift in women’s health toward preventative and holistic care. Rather than waiting to address issues after they arise, many women are seeking out solutions that support their bodies over time. This includes integrating services that complement other aspects of wellness, such as nutrition, hormone balance and physical therapy.

While OsteoStrong is not a replacement for medical treatment, it can serve as a valuable addition to a comprehensive health plan. Women are increasingly recognizing the importance of building strength from the inside out starting with the skeletal system that supports every movement.

As awareness continues to grow, OsteoStrong is becoming part of a larger conversation about how women can take control of their health in sustainable, empowering ways. By offering a focused, science-backed approach to bone and joint health, it provides an

option that fits seamlessly into busy lifestyles while addressing one of the most critical aspects of women’s long-term well-being.

K2 Holistic Health was founded on the idea of bringing the best of the medical world, the best of the physical therapy world and the best of the chiropractic world, all integrated together under one roof, as they collaborate on their patients together to help bring about each patient’s best results. This philosophy helps set K2 Holistic Health apart from other clinics, and that philosophy—along with K2’s welcoming environment—are two of the reasons women most often cite when they are asked why they come to K2 Holistic Health and why they refer other women as well.

At the core of K2 Holistic Health, is their passion to help patients regain their Kinetics (movement) and their Kinesthetics (the neurology behind movement), and this is where the two Ks in their name comes from. Said differently, if there is a limitation to your ability to move or to how your nerves feel, then that is what K2 is striving to reverse.

K2 Holistic Health offers treatments for neck pain, back pain, joint pain (like hips and knees), neuropathy protocols, peptide therapy, physical therapy programs and chiropractic adjustments. Rather than giving patients hydrocortisone injections which help short term pain but in the long term actually weaken and degenerate your joints further, or prescribing higher and higher doses of Gabapentin which makes a nerve just drowsy enough that you can’t feel what the nerve is trying to tell you while the neuropathy continues to worsen, K2 does a myriad of treatments to actually address these issues, including Hylajel injections, PRP, neuropathy protocols and hormones/peptides.

Regarding the growing area of peptide use, K2 Holistic Health points out that virtually all of human pathology is the final result of a very simple process: pathogens, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle all lead to these three physiological failures of systemic inflammation, insulin resistance and mitochondrial dysfunction. K2 offers medical grade peptides with physician oversight to specifically target these very causes and failures.

When asked what area of women’s health specifically is being failed by the medical world, Jason Howe (the primary medical provider and CEO of K2 Holistic Health) replied “Women need testosterone levels too. While the ideal ranges are very different between genders, most people don’t know how much testosterone can help females too by improving their motivation, focus, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, mood stabilization and libido. Balancing a woman’s hormones is more than just balancing progesterone and estradiol. Testosterone at low doses can be life changing for women.”

If you are tired of the same traditional orthopedic and neuropathy medications, or if you are tired of feeling older than you should be feeling, then K2 Holistic Health is waiting to help you too.

Call K2 Holistic Health at (402) 817-1999 or visit them at k2holistichealth.com for a free consultation.

No matter what is going on with your health, providers in Omaha are waiting to help you and guide you to a better, more healthy you. As awareness grows, so does the opportunity for women to take a more active role in their health. And with the right support, that can lead to stronger, more confident outcomes at every stage of life.
