Caring for life

What we do

Caring for life, together

Every year St Richard’s offers free, expert care and support to more than 3,000 people - adults who are living with an incurable illness, their loved ones and the bereaved.

We support people to manage their illness and remain independent for as long as possible, giving emotional, social, practical and spiritual support.

A hospice is not just a building – it is a way of caring for people. We care for people in different places, including people’s own homes, in our Living Well Centre, in hospice beds and by telephone and video calls if that’s preferred.

How we are funded

Hospice care is made possible thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters who fund approximately 80% of our income. The remainder comes from the NHS.

At St Richard’s we understand that everyone who makes a donation to help us care wants to know that their contribution will make a real difference to patients and their loved ones. It’s important for everyone to know how we spend money and that you are reassured that we are making the best use of the funds available to us.

This leaflet gives information about the different services St Richard’s offers, how these services support patients and their families and how much each service costs.

It costs £21,776 to fund all our hospice services for one day **
