and people living longer with multiple illnesses such as cancer, hear t failure or Parkinson’s. Currently areas of our hospice building in Worcester are bursting at the seams and we are struggling to respond to the everincreasing number of patients.
Why we must build a bigger hospice now.
Current overcrowding in Day Hospice
Chief Executive June Patel writes:
At St Richard’s we believe that everyone who is living with a life-limiting illness and their families should be able to have the free, exper t care and suppor t they need to live life to the fullest, as independently as they can, for as long as they can. But each year we know there are hundreds of people in Worcestershire who are not getting the exper t end of life care they deserve and this is set to rise sharply with our ageing population
With your help, we can build a bigger hospice to better suppor t our current patients and reach the unmet need of thousands of local people in the future, offering the right care and suppor t when they need it most. The number of people in Worcestershire aged 65+ who are living with an incurable long term condition is projected to rise by 63% over the next 20 years. We anticipate our bigger hospice will enable us to care and support an increase of up to an extra 1,000 individuals per year by 2021/22.
We support more than 3,000 patients, loved ones and bereaved people each year
