Bands on Broadway and Beyond

The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce is part of “Chicago Presents” this summer.

Through Chicago Presents, an initiative of Arts77, Chicago’s arts recovery plan, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and the Walder Foundation have awarded grants ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 to support 16 community events from July 1-August 14. Many of these events will feature artists rom the Chicago Band Roster, a new resource listing over 200 Chicago-based musicians of all genres, created for the Year of Chicago Music (Chicago.gov/Music). Chicago Presents will support a second round of events August 15-October 31, to be announced

Chicago's youth will march alongside Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, and a number of other local and national stars. Produced by the Chicago Defender Charities, it is the largest Black parade in the world, and the second largest parade in the country. Citywide Chicago In Tune is a new citywide festival celebrating music in the key of Chicago — during the 2021 Year of Chicago Music.

This month of music will bring iconic neighborhood venues, presenting organizations and musicians from across the city together to celebrate all music genres and forms — with both large and small, free and ticketed events at clubs, concert halls and beyond. As part of Chicago In Tune, DCASE will present new and reimagined programs in place of this year’s Gospel music, Jazz, House, and Blues festivals in Millennium Park. Four special evenings at Jay Pritzker Pavilion (201 E. How StreetWise Works

Our Mission To empower the entrepreneurial spirit through the dignity of self-employment by providing Chicagoans facing homelessness with a combination of supportive social services, workforce development resources and immediate access to gainful employment.

Orientation Participants complete a monthlong orientation, focusing on customer service skills, financial literacy and time management to become a badged vendor.

Financial Literacy Vendors buy StreetWise for $0.90, and sell it for $2. The profit of $1.10 goes directly to the licensed vendor for them to earn a living.

Supportive Services StreetWise provides referrals, advocacy and other support to assist participants in meeting their basic needs and getting out of crisis.

S.T.E.P. Program StreetWise’s S.T.E.P. Program provides job readiness training and ongoing direct service support to ensure participants’ success in entering the traditional workforce.
