ArrivalTimes

Weexpectallvolunteerstoarriveattheexpectedtimeasnotedontherota.These arestaggeredfrom9pm.Ifforanyreason,youarenolongerabletoattendtheshift orarerunninglate,youmustcalltheTeamLeader(07563247399)attheearliest opportunity. Thisensureswecanamendtherotaingoodtimeandplanthedelivery oftheshifttoensurethesafetyofvolunteersandserviceusersinlinewithour insurance.

StartofShift

Atthestartoftheshift,onarrivalatbasemakeyourselfknowntotheTeamLeaderor Controllersotheycansignyouin. Gotoyourgroup’ssetupspace,introduce yourselftoyourgroupmembersandcollectivelycheckthekitbagsinlinewiththe kit contentlistandensuringeverythingischargedandgoodworkingorder.

ONSHIFT:WHATTOEXPECT

ConductonShift

WhilstvolunteeringwithStreetAssistyouarerepresentingthecharity andareexpectedtoactinanappropriatemanner.Volunteersshould berespectfulandactprofessionallytowardsmembersofthepublic andofficialpartneragenciesatalltimes. Thisincludesnotsleepingin vehicles,removalofStreetAssistbrandingclothingwhensmokingand alwaysintroduceyourselfas aStreetAssistvolunteerregardlessof yourprofessionalcapacityi.e.notasaparamedicsciencestudent.

EndofShift

Attheendofshift,allgroupswillreturnbacktobaseonceinstructed todosobycontrol.Kitbagsshouldberestockedattheendofthe night,replacingwhathasbeenusedthroughouttheshift.All equipmentprovidedatthestartoftheshifti.e.IDbadges,radios, earpieces,bodycamsandtabletsshouldbereturnedtocontrol.Once Controlhasconfirmedthatallequipmenthasbeenreturned,theywill signyouout.

Equipment

WhilstvolunteeringwithStreetAssistyouwillhaveaccesstohighvalue equipmentsuchasbodycams,radiosandtablets.Theseareexpensiveto replaceandmustbecaredforandreturnedtothecontrolleraftereach shiftingoodworkingorder.

Radio:Bestpractice

Allvolunteerswillbeshownhowtousetheradiosaspartoftheir inductionprocess.Weexpectthefollowingstandards:

Earpiecesshouldbewornwhilstattendingtomembersofthepublic andwhenoutthevehicles.

Wheninthevehicles,theearpiececanbeunplugged.

Keepcommunicationsregular,clearandconcise.Forexample,letting controlknowarrival,updatesandcompletionofcalls.

Thereareradioblackspotsacrossthecitycentre,ifyoudon’tget confirmationfromcontrol,trytocontactthemviaradioagainorcall theTeamLeader.

ONSHIFT:WHATTOEXPECT

Bodycam:Bestpractice

Allvolunteerswillbeshownhowtousethebodycamsaspartoftheir inductionprocess.Onebodycamisallocatedtoamemberofthegroupfor theshift. Weexpectthefollowingstandards: Ensurethatthereisnothingornooneblockingthecamerawhen recording.

Standstillandawayfromthescenesoyouhaveafullviewofthe scene.

Beawarethatitrecordssoundsobecarefuloflanguageandvolume ofnoisearoundyou/withintheteam.

CarsandVehicles

CarsandVehiclesmustbekeptingoodcondition.Atthestartofevery shift,theDriverisresponsibleforacompletingvehiclesafetycheck(see driverrolesandresponsibilities).Itiseveryone’sresponsibilitybefore, duringandaftertheshifttokeepthevehiclesingoodcondition,including theremovalofallclinicalwaste,rubbishandfoodwaste.

ProtectiveClothing/Uniform

Weloanbrandeduniformtoallvolunteers. Wekindlyrequesta£35 depositmadebyBACS,whichwillbereturnedtoyouuponreturnofall uniformloanedtoyouoryoucanopttodonatethistotheproject.

Beforeyoureceiveyouruniform,whilstonshiftwewillloanyouuseofa high-visibilitybrandedjacketwhichmustbereturnedafterdeliveryof eachshift. Wealsoloanyoubrandedidentitycardswhichmustbeondisplay(around yourneck)onallshiftdeliveries.Thesemustbereturnedattheendof everyshifttoyourGroupLeader.

ONSHIFT:WHATTOEXPECT

WealsoprovideaspartofourkitprovisionallthenecessaryPPE requiredtocarryoutthefunctionoftherole.

StandardsofDress

Withinyourvolunteerresponsibilities,youwillbepresentedwithwith manydifferentscenarios,insomecircumstancesthiswillinvolvecontact withbodilyfluids. Itisimportantthatyouaredressedappropriatelyand preparedforalleventualitiesincludingtheweather. Wealsoexpectour volunteerstopresentthemselvesprofessionallyandrepresentourbrand accordingly.Thereforeweexpectthefollowing:

Ensurethevehicleisroadworthypriortodeliveryandusingthe StreetAssistEdinburghDriversChecklisttoachievethis Setupandshutdownthevehicleappropriately,includingcar radios,heaters,lightsetc.

Ensurethevehicleisadequatelyfuelledandcleaninsideandout.If anyoftheseneedtobecarriedout,pleasealerttheteamleaderat startassoonaspossible

ReportanyleaksorspillstotheTeamLeaderandensurethatthese arequicklyandappropriatelycleanedup

ReportanyvehiclefaultsorconcernstotheTeamLeaderatthe earliestopportunitywhowillthenpassthisinformationontothe ManagementTeam.Pleasenote,novehicleshouldbeusedifany warninglightsarepresent

OURSTANDARDS

Volunteersareexpectedtobehaveresponsiblywhilewithus.Normally wewouldbringanydifficultiestoyourattentioninformally.However, thebehaviourlistedbelowwouldresultinusrefusinganyfurther voluntaryassistancefromyou:

Grosslyindecentorimmoralbehaviour,deliberateactsofunlawful discriminationorseriousactsofharassment; Dangerousbehaviour,fightingorphysicalassault; Incapacityorpoorperformancecausedbyintoxicantsordrugs whilstvolunteering;

Possession,supplyoruseofdrugs;

Takingpartinactivitieswhichresultinadversepublicityto ourselves;

Theftorunauthorisedpossessionofmoneyorproperty,whether belongingtous,oneofouremployees,anothervolunteerorathird party; Destruction/sabotageofourproperty,oranypropertyonthe premises;

Seriousbreachesofthehealthandsafetyruleswhichendanger life

RepeatedincidentsofbreachesoftheHighwayCode

Maltreatmentofserviceusers;

Failuretoreportanincidentofabuse,orsuspectedabuseofa serviceuserbyanemployee,volunteeroramemberofthe public;

Convictionsforanyoffencewhichmightaffectyoursuitability forthevolunteeringdutiesyouareinvolvedin; BreachoftheDataProtectionPolicy,foundhereininthis Handbook.

GENERAL INFORMATION

TimeCommitment

Ifyouareunabletoattendatanyofthetimeswhenyouhavearrangedtohelp us,duetoillhealthorothercommitments,pleaselettheDirectorortheShift TeamLeaderknowassoonaspossibleaswemayneedtomakearrangements forcover.

Insurance

Housekeeping

Allorganisationproperty,includingareasofbuildingsandvehicles,must bekeptcleanandtidyatalltimes.

Volunteer’sProperty

Noliabilityisacceptedforanylossof,ordamageto,propertybrought ontoourpremises,orthepremisesofourserviceusers.Youareadvised nottotakeanypersonalitemsofvalue,otherthanamobilephone,to thevolunteerpremisesortoleaveanyitemsatthevolunteerpremises overnight.

LostProperty

ArticlesoflostpropertyshouldbehandedtoyourShiftTeamLeaderat theendofthenight,whowillretainthemwhilstattemptsaremadeto discovertheowner.

Training

Weprovidetrainingnecessaryforthetasksthatyouhavevolunteered for,andanyfurthervolunteeringactivitiesitisagreedyoucan undertake.

GENERALINFORMATION

StatementstotheMedia

Volunteersarerequestedtonotmakeanystatementtoreportersfrom newspapers,radio,television,etc.,inrespecttoourorganisation.Any enquiriesshouldbedirectedtotheShiftTeamLeaderortheDirector.

PersonalRelationships

Werecognisethat,fromtimetotime,closepersonalrelationshipsmay developbetweenvolunteers.Inordertoensurethatpotentialconflictsof interestareavoided,volunteersareencouragedtoinformtheDirectorof anyrelationshipwhichmayaffecttheirworkorcompromisethe organisationinanyway.

Anysuchinformationwillbetreatedinthestrictestconfidence.Wefully acknowledgetherightofvolunteerstoprivacyintheirpersonalaffairs. However,experiencehasshownthattheeffectofsuchrelationshipscan causeablurringofjudgementwherebyconflictsofinterestarise.

Expenses

Youareentitledtoclaimthefollowingexpensesincurredduring volunteeringwithus:

Traveltoandfromhometotheplaceofvolunteering(bothdelivery andtraining)

Expensesmustbeclaimedonanexpenseclaimform(availablefrom CharityDirector)andbesupportedbyreceipts,ticketstubsorevidence whereverpractical.Weonlyreimburseactualexpensespaid.

Problems

Shouldyouhaveanyproblemsrelatedtoyourtreatmentbyus,our employees,othervolunteersorserviceusers,pleaseraisethiswith yourShiftTeamLeaderontheeveningofdelivery.Ifthisisnot practicable,pleaseraiseanyproblemsinanemailtotheDirectoror BoardVolunteerRep.

Unauthorisedcopyingand/orremovalofcomputer equipment/softwarewillresultinusrefusingtoacceptanyfurther assistancefromyou.

InternetPolicy

Whereappropriate,dulyauthorisedvolunteersmaymakeuseofthe Internetaspartoftheirvolunteeringduties.Youmayonlyrelease informationviatheinternetwiththeprioragreementoftheDirector. Theuseoftheinternettoaccessand/ordistributeanykindofmaterial whichisoffensiveorunrelatedtoyourtaskswillresultinusrefusing anyfurthervoluntaryassistancewithyou.

CommunicationsPolicy

Wewillnottoleratetheuseofourinternalcommunicationschannelsfor unofficialorinappropriatepurposes,including:

Anymessagesthatcouldconstitutebullying,harassmentorother detriment.

Personaluse(e.g.socialinvitations,personalmessages,jokes, cartoons,chainlettersorotherprivatematters).

ANTI-BRIBERYPOLICY

Introduction

Briberyisacriminaloffence.StreetAssist(SCIO)prohibitsanyformofbribery.We requirecompliance,fromeveryoneconnectedtotheorganisation,withthehighest ethicalstandardsandanti-briberylawsapplicable.Integrityandtransparencyare ofutmostimportancetousandwehaveazerotoleranceattitudetowardscorrupt activitiesofanykind.

Policy

Suspicion

Ifwesuspectthatyouhavecommittedanactofbriberyorattempted bribery,aninvestigationwillbecarriedoutand,inlinewithour complaintspolicy,actionmaybetakenagainstyouwhichmayresultin usaskingyoutoleavetheproject.

Reporting

Ifyoususpectthatanactofbriberyorattemptedbriberyhastaken place,evenifyouarenotpersonallyinvolved,youareexpectedto reportthistotheDirector.Youmaybeaskedtogiveawrittenaccount ofevents.

GiftsandHospitality

Werealisethatthereceivingofgifts/hospitalityasacharityasa reflectionofappreciationwherenothingisexpectedinreturnmay occur,orevenbecommonplace,inourindustry.Thisdoesnot constitutebriberywhereitisproportionateandrecordedproperly.

Nogiftsshouldbereceivedbyavolunteeroranyoneworkingonourbehalf withoutreceivingpriorapprovalfromtheShiftTeamLeaderorDirector.

ArecordwillbekeptbytheShiftTeamLeaderorDirectorofeveryinstance inwhichgiftsorhospitalityaregivenorreceived.

HEALTHANDSAFETY

Safety

StreetAssist(SCIO)willadviseyouofthehealthandsafetyrequirements andanyhazardsassociatedwithyourresponsibilities.Youmustnottakeany actionthatcouldthreatenthehealthorsafetyofyourself,othervolunteers, workers,employees,serviceusersormembersofthepublic.

Youshouldreportallaccidentsandinjuriesatthevolunteerpremisestothe ShiftTeamLeader,nomatterhowminor,intheaccidentbook.TheShift TeamLeaderwilladvisewherethisiskept.

RestRoom,RefreshmentFacilities

Weprovidearestroomandrefreshmentsatour‘base’,inwhichwiththe expresspermissionoftheShiftTeamLeader,yourteamcanattendtotake toiletandrefreshmentbreaks.Pleasekeepthesefacilitiescleanandtidyat alltimes.Otherwisepleasemakeuseofthevenuesthroughoutthecity centre.

HEALTHANDSAFETY

Smoking

Ourpolicyofnotsmokingin,ornearthevicinityofserviceusers,their premises,oranyplaceotherthandesignatedareasonoursites,must beobservedatalltimes.

AlcoholandDrugsPolicy

Wehaveadutytoensure,sofarasisreasonablypracticable,thehealth andsafetyandwelfareatworkofvolunteers,employees,workers,and, similarly,youhavearesponsibilitytoyourselfandyourcolleagues.The useofalcoholanddrugsmayimpairthesafeandefficientrunningof thebusinessand/orthehealthandsafetyofourvolunteers,workers, employees,andotherparties.

If,duringvolunteeringwithus,yourperformanceorbehaviourare affectedasaresultofalcoholordrugs,orwebelieveyouhavebeen involvedinanydrugrelatedaction/offence,youmaybesubjectto furtheractionand,dependentonthecircumstances,thismayleadto terminationofyourrelationshipwithus.

Parking

Pleaseparkonlyinthedesignatedparkingspaces,ensuringthatyou aren’tdoubleparkedorimpedinganyothervehicleneedingaccessinor outofthecarpark.Noliabilityisacceptedfordamagetoprivatevehicles, howevercaused.

Hygiene

Anyexposedcutorburnmustbecoveredwithafirst-aiddressing.

Ifyouaresufferingfromaninfectiousorcontagiousdiseaseorillness suchasrubellaorhepatitis,youmustnotreportforvolunteeringwithout clearancefromyourowndoctor.

DISCRIMINATION, HARRASSMENT COMPLAINT

Introduction

Harassmentorvictimisationonthegroundsofage,disability,genderreassignment, marriageandcivilpartnership,pregnancyormaternity,race,religionorbelief,sexor sexualorientationisunacceptable.Discriminationandharassmentcantakemany formsbut,whateverformtheytake,theyarealwaysseriousandtotally unacceptable.

TheProjectdeploresallformsofdiscriminationandharassmentandseekstoensure thattheenvironmentissympathetictoallofourvolunteers.

DISCRIMINATION,HARRASSMENTCOMPLAINT

InformalComplaints

Ifyouarethevictimofminordiscrimination/harassmentyoushould makeitcleartothediscriminator/harasser,onaninformalbasis,that theirbehaviourisunwelcomeandasktheharassertostop.Ifyoufeel unabletodothis,getincontactwiththeShiftTeamLeaderor VolunteerRepresentativeontheBoard.

FormalComplaints

Wheretheinformalapproachfails,orifthediscrimination/harassment ismoreserious,youshouldbringthemattertotheattentionofthe ShiftTeamLeaderorDirectorasaformalwrittencomplaint. Thepersondealingwiththecomplaintwillcarryoutathorough investigation.Thoseinvolvedintheinvestigationwillbeexpectedtoact inconfidenceandanybreachofconfidencewillbetreatedasaserious matter.

Onconclusionoftheinvestigation,whichwillnormallybewithinten workingdayswithyou,thedecisionoftheinvestigator,detailingthe findings,willbesentinwritingtoyou.

GeneralNotes

Ifthedecisionisthattheallegationiswell-founded,the discriminator/harasserwillbesubjecttoappropriateaction.

Ifyoubringacomplaintofdiscrimination/harassment,youwillnotbe victimisedforhavingbroughtthecomplaint.However,ifitisconcluded thatthecomplaintisbothuntrueandhasbeenbroughtwithmalicious intent,itwillresultinusrefusinganyfurthervoluntaryassistancefrom you.

Introduction

Werecognisethatduringyourvolunteeringwithusyourcapabilitytocarryout yourdutiesmaydeteriorate.Thiscanbeforanumberofreasons,themostcommon onesbeingthateithertherolechangesoveraperiodoftimeandyoufailtokeep pacewiththechanges,oryouchange(mostcommonlybecauseofhealthreasons) andyoucannolongercopewiththework.

Ifyourdutieschangesorifwehavegeneralconcernsaboutyourabilitytoperform theseduties,wewilltrytoensurethatyouhaveunderstoodthelevelof performanceexpectedofyouandthatyoureceiveadequatetrainingand supervision.Concernsregardingyourcapabilitywillnormallyfirstbediscussedin aninformalmanner.

Ifthereisstillnoimprovementafterareasonabletimeandwecannot transferyoutomoresuitablework,orifyourlevelofperformancehasa seriousorsubstantialimpactonourorganisationorreputation,we mayterminateyourrelationshipwithus.

PersonalCircumstances/HealthIssues

Personalcircumstancesmayarisewhichdonotpreventyoufrom volunteering,butwhichpreventyoufromcarryingoutyournormalduties (e.g.alackofdexterityorgeneralillhealth).Ifsuchasituationarises,you areexpectedtoraisethiswiththeDirectorand/orShiftTeamLeader wherewewilldiscussyourfuturevolunteeringwithusinyourcurrentrole or,wherecircumstancespermit,inamoresuitablerole.

Theremayalsobepersonalcircumstancesthatpreventyoufrom attendingvolunteering,eitherforaprolongedperiodorforfrequent shortabsences.Underthesecircumstances,youareexpectedtoadvise theDirectorofthis.
