Welcome to Åland – many experiences await!

With the Åland Guide in hand, it’s easy to find your way and make the most of your visit to Åland.

You’ll find tips on activities and attractions, food and drink, and shopping in Åland. With the guide in your pocket, you can tailor your visit and choose exactly what appeals to you and your friends.

The guide is valid for a full year – from June 2026 to May 2027. At the back, you’ll find maps of both Mariehamn and Åland. You can also visit www.aland.com, where you’ll always find up-to-date information. Åland’s tourist information centre, Visit Åland, is located at Torggatan 6 in Mariehamn and can answer most questions about Åland.

REMEMBER!

Åland follows Eastern European Time, the same as the rest of Finland. When it is 12:00 in Sweden, it is 13:00 in Åland. The currency is the euro.

SUBJECT TO CHANGE!

Please note that activities may be cancelled and attractions may be closed. Always check websites or social media in advance when planning your visit.

A transit fare is applied for oneway ferry crossings on the same day between the end ports Osnäs–Hummelvik (v.v.), Långnäs–Galtby (v.v.) and Svinö–Galtby (v.v.).

Discover Åland with Ålandstrafiken!

You can see a lot of Åland if you choose to travel by public transport. On the main island, rural buses operate, while archipelago ferries connect the islands in the archipelago municipalities.

On mainland Åland, there are four main roads running in different directions. Along these, rural buses operate on five routes, and buses on routes 4 and 5 are coordinated with a couple of ferry arrivals and departures. A bus ticket is valid for two hours, and you can change buses freely during that time.

There are also local bus services in the rural municipalities if you want to explore Åland along smaller roads. On most archipelago islands, you can also book a local taxi that picks you up at the ferry. In and around Mariehamn, there are urban buses.

TAKE THE ARCHIPELAGO FERRY

Where the roads end, the archipelago ferries take over. Ferries depart from Hummelvik in Vårdö to Osnäs in Gustavs and from Långnäs in Lumparland to Galtby in Korpo several times daily.

To reach Vårdö, follow main road 2 – a short cable ferry crossing is included. The cable ferry runs frequently and does not need to be booked. From Hummelvik harbour, you can continue east in the archipelago to Kumlinge and Brändö via the Northern Line.

To visit Sottunga and Kökar in the south-

ern archipelago, travel from the harbour in Långnäs at the end of main road 3.

The easiest way to reach Föglö is from Svinö in Lumparland via main road 3. The Föglö ferry runs many times daily and cannot be booked. However, remember to book a vehicle space on ferries operating the Northern and Southern lines.

REMEMBER TO BOOK IN ADVANCE

A good tip is to book your journey in advance. You’ll get a discount when you book and pay for your ferry ticket online. The same online price applies when purchasing an open ticket online before departure from Svinö on the Föglö line. Open tickets can also be purchased for departures from Hummelvik, Långnäs, Osnäs and Galtby.

The vehicle ticket price is the same regardless of the length of the ferry crossing. Show your QR code when boarding so your annual pass, tourist card or booking can be scanned smoothly.

You do not need to pay a ticket fee for travel between intermediate ports – perfect if you want to explore more archipelago municipalities.

If your plans change, remember to cancel your booking – you avoid extra charges and make the space available for others.

FOOD & ACCOMMODATION

Taste Åland – and stay longer!

Åland offers memorable restaurant experiences, charming cafés, top-quality locally produced ingredients and world-class artisanal food. Stay one or several nights – there are accommodation options to suit every taste.

A culinary tour of Mariehamn

It's easy to eat and drink well in Mariehamn –from breakfast to tasty lunches, coffee and à la carte dinners. Or why not try tapas or seafood?

Take a stroll through the centre of Mariehamn and discover the following four restaurants and a café. Each with its own charm, atmosphere and unique menu.

A POPULAR MEETING PLACE

Start your day with a long and hearty breakfast at Espresso House in Sittkoff Galleria in the centre of Mariehamn. Sit down for a great cup of coffee and watch the town come to life. You'll want to return here several times throughout the day for another coffee, a chat with friends, or for pastries, sandwiches and light meals.

Adjacent to Espresso House is the Sittkoffska Gården restaurant, which serves genuine home cooking at lunchtime, made with Åland ingredients. Here you will also find one of the town's best salad buffets, included in lunch. In the evening you can enjoy a delicious à la carte dinner.

AN OASIS WITH A MEDITERRANEAN TOUCH

Looking for lunch, tapas, or a glass of wine in a sunny courtyard? Head to Boquerian – a charming spot offering a relaxed atmosphere, a glazed terrace, and Mariehamn’s cosiest courtyard dining. For lunch, the Boquerian offers the daily meat,

fish or vegetarian dish. In the evening, enjoy a menu filled with tapas, fine cheeses and charcuterie. Stop by the cheese and charcuterie counter and buy some of the selected delicacies to take home.

SEAFOOD AT THE DOCKSIDE

Brasserie Ångbåtsbryggan pairs great food with beautiful sea views in the eastern harbour. Both the walls and the ceiling are made of glass, giving it a great outdoor feel.

Here you’ll find fresh seafood platters and grilled favourites, all prepared in the open kitchen right in front of you. The grill is built from historic Åland bricks, and much of the brasserie’s interior has a story to tell.

ADVENTURE GOLF FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Next to Brasseriet is Ångbåtsbryggan's Adventure Golf. Here you can have lunch, dinner, a coffee break or a refreshing drink.

The 18-hole course is fun for everyone, young and old alike, and the spacious outdoor seating area offers sun and great views of the course.

From café classics to bistro favourites

A love of well-prepared food with a personal touch characterises Iwa Café & Bistro in Maxinge. Enjoy generous lunches, tasty coffee and flavourful dinners with that little extra.

The café menu's salads and hearty sandwiches are real favourites, including the classic Iwa salads Chevré, Caesar, Spicy Chicken Scramble and Poké Bowl – perfect for lunch or to take along in your picnic basket. The café also serves hot dishes, often with a modern take on home cooking. For those with a sweet tooth, Iwa bakes buns, pastries and other treats in her own bakery. Vegan and sugar-free options are also available. The mini pastries are especially popular, with a wide range of tempting flavours.

VERSATILE BISTRO

When the lunch rush is over, Iwa's bistro opens. The menu ranges from light dishes

to hearty favourites from around the world, inspired by Nordic, Asian and Mexican kitchens. The bistro attracts everyone from couples and families to groups of friends. That's why there are always burgers and a generous selection of kids' meals on the menu.

The café menu is served all day, and when the bistro opens at 3pm, you can order from both menus. The lunch menu changes weekly, while the bistro menu follows the seasons.

The bistro is wine & beer licensed and all food and pastries are available to take away. In addition, Iwa offers catering for both large and small events.

Make Indigo your second living room

Ever since it was founded in 2004, Indigo Restaurant & Bar has been a natural meeting place for anyone looking for great food and entertainment in Mariehamn.

Indigo calls itself “your second living room” – and rightly so. With a bar on the upper floor and a courtyard terrace, it’s a place where both locals and visitors naturally gather. Indigo offers everything from a relaxed atmosphere and personal service to excellent lunches and dinners. The atmosphere ranges from relaxed elegance in the à la carte restaurant on the ground floor to a more lively and familiar vibe in the bar and bistro upstairs. This makes Indigo an equally natural choice for business lunches, family dinners and fun dining as for after work, pub quizzes and spontaneous drinks.

WITH ITS HEART IN THE KITCHEN

The à la carte and bistro menus vary with the seasons, but the feeling remains the same. Enjoy well-composed flavours, beautifully presented dishes and attention to every detail. Classic flavours and wellknown dishes from around the world are given new contexts.

You’ll also notice that restaurateur Stig Grönlund has a passion for wine. The extensive wine list includes everything from top wines by well-known producers to more undiscovered gems.

PLEASANT OUTDOOR SEATING

When the sun starts to warm, Indigo opens its bohemian courtyard terrace and serves lunch and the bar’s bistro menu outdoors. Over the years, many favourites have emerged – some so popular they simply can’t be replaced. No bistro or AW menu at

Indigo is complete without the Indigo burger and Toast Skagen! Of course, there is always a children’s menu and the option to order smaller portions for younger guests. Summer rain and chilly evenings are no problem – with a roof, sliding doors, heaters and good company, you’ll stay warm and dry.

WHEN EVENING TURNS INTO NIGHT

All year round, Indigo’s bar is a natural part of Mariehamn’s nightlife. In summer, the courtyard terrace and Indigo’s summer club, The Calypso Bar, draw visitors with great atmosphere, cocktails and late nights. The music is always on point – and so is the vibe.

COSY WINTER VIBES IN THE BAR

As autumn arrives, nightlife continues indoors with craft drinks and other favourites on tap and by the bottle. Every other Wednesday there’s a quiz, followed by weekly after work on Friday evenings. Weekends often feature DJs, and from time to time the bar turns into an intimate concert venue when KlubbEttan hosts live performances.

WANT TO BOOK A PRIVATE EVENT?

Indigo has two private dining rooms – one for up to 10 people and a larger one for up to 24 guests. It is also possible to book the Calypso Bar or the entire Indigo for larger groups.

The book contains 20 years of everything that Indigo is – the food, the wine, the spirits and of course the love!

Here you’ll find recipes from two decades of favourite dishes, the bartenders’ signature drinks through the years, and restaurateur Stig Grönlund’s highly personal musical guide to the world of wine.

A perfect gift, we think – for yourself or someone you care about. MAT VIN SPRIT KÄRLEK is available for purchase at the restaurant on Nygatan 1 and in bookstores.

We have won prestigious book awards!

Indigo’s book FOOD WINE SPIRIT LOVE was named Best Restaurant Book in the World at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2025, and was also nominated for the Publishing Prize 2025 – two of the most prestigious awards in the world of food and books. And when the Swedish Meal Literature Awards 2025 were presented in Stockholm on 20 November, the book was not only awarded in the category Best Nordic Meal Literature, but also received the award for best photography and illustration.

Food and drink with a sea view

ÅSS Paviljongen offers great food by the sea in one of Mariehamn's most iconic, a cultural-historical gem designed by Lars Sonck in the late 19th century.

The restaurant offers an archipelago feel in the city's western harbour, serving from lunch to late evening. Sit down indoors in the cosy restaurant, enjoy the terrace in the afternoon and evening sun, or book the small terrace house for a more private dining experience.

ÅSS Paviljongen is open from late spring to early autumn and offers everything from lunch and bistro-style food to à la carte. The menu includes both classics and seasonal dishes, with the Jägarsmörgås and Seglismackan being popular favourites. For those who like to party, there's the Friday AW and lively Coco Loco Saturdays on the terrace when the weather permits.

ÅSS is primarily a summer restaurant, but occasionally opens during the year for themed weeks with exciting flavours. From French cuisine to Japanese izakaya concepts, the ÅSS Christmas buffet is equally popular, and is particularly atmospheric when the snow falls over the harbour.

ALBIN CAFÉ AND PIZZA

The ÅSS Pavilion also houses the popular Albin café and pizza with outdoor seating by the water and a reputation for serving Åland's best pizzas. Come and see for yourself! On the pizza menu you'll find everything from pizzas like Matrosen and Gasten to Måsen and Lanternan.

Stay by the sea in the heart of the city, close to both entertainment and relaxation

Newly renovated rooms with sea views or evening sun, sauna and pool, several restaurants, a nightclub and bars, live music and the most popular dance floor.

Hotel Arkipelag in Mariehamn offers everything under one roof – food, accommodation, relaxation, entertainment and experiences. The hotel is located by the water in the town's eastern harbour, just a short walk from the beach at Lilla Holmen. At the hotel, you can enjoy both indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna and the summer restaurant Arken Garden, where guests are happy to spend the entire day. When the sun is shining, the pool area quickly fills with life – many guests settle into a sun lounger right after breakfast and

stay until evening. Families with children enjoy both the pool area and the hotel’s playroom.

ROOMS FOR EVERYONE

All rooms have a private balcony – either with morning sun and views of the sea in Mariehamn’s eastern harbour or with evening sun and town views.

The suites, family rooms and double rooms have recently been renovated. The interior is Nordic with Åland influences, in a modern and timeless style. The Green Key-certified hotel also offers accessible rooms.

DINING EXPERIENCES TO REMEMBER

The restaurant Compagniet is worth a

visit in itself, not least because of its imaginative interior. Step inside and you’ll find yourself in an oriental setting among brass, tigers and flowing fabrics – a true delight for all the senses.

A POPULAR MEETING PLACE

The coolest outdoor restaurant in town!

Try fantastic drinks from the bar or enjoy something from the menu. After your meal, you can stay and socialise – borrow a board game or challenge your dinner companions to shuffleboard, billiards or boule.

In our Garden, the barbecue is always on, the salads crisp and the drinks well chilled.

Local ingredients are at the heart of the hotel’s restaurants, creating a truly Åland experience. Flavours of sea buckthorn, apple and rhubarb appear in both the breakfast selection and other dishes and drinks. And of course, you shouldn’t leave Åland without tasting the classic Åland pancake!

Arkipelag is also a popular meeting venue. Flexible spaces allow the hotel to host everything from small groups to large conferences. The bright conference rooms accommodate up to 180 people, while the banquet hall can host up to 600 guests.

The wave-shaped bar Dyningen is a tribute to the sea, with jellyfish and wave motifs reflected throughout the venue.

Hotel Arkipelag is also located next to the Alandica culture and congress centre.

Havsvidden – Åland flavours by the sea

Havsvidden is a place where nature and the essence of Åland are always present – from the sea and the red granite cliffs to the food on your plate.

Havsvidden’s food philosophy is simple: the food should be genuine, prepared with care and rooted in the place. Every bite tells something about Åland. Here, head chef Johanna Dahlgren works closely with local producers, letting availability and the seasons guide the menu. That’s why it may change at short notice. The ambition, however, always remains the same: everything is made from scratch, with respect for seasonal ingredients and a strong sense of the archipelago’s character. Classic dishes are given a modern archipelago twist, resulting in clear flavours and food that feels authentic and thoughtfully prepared.

The dining experience is also shaped by the view of the cliffs and the sea. Through the large panoramic windows, it’s easy to

enjoy the ever-changing scenery outside –from sunshine and calm waters to storms and crashing waves. At times like these, it’s especially comforting to sit inside in the warmth, enjoy good food and let nature provide the drama.

The lounge and bar are just as inviting. Here you’ll find a fine selection of international quality wines alongside local beers, ciders and other Åland beverages. It’s the perfect place to sit down and unwind for a while during the day or after your meal.

PEACE AND QUIET CLOSE TO NATURE

If you wish to stay longer, there are plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation. Choose between comfortable hotel rooms or your own cliff house with a terrace, sea views and the archipelago air right outside your door.

In the pool house, with an indoor pool and sauna, it’s easy to find a sense of calm.

Relaxed elegance at Nautical

Enjoy creative cooking and surprising flavours served in an environment that combines white tablecloths with extraordinary dining experiences.

Ever since the Åland Maritime Museum opened in 1954, Nautical has been housed on the second floor of the same building. The panoramic view of Mariehamn's inlet and the sailing ship Pommern creates a unique atmosphere, where maritime history and innovation meet.

Inside the restaurant, much is the same with many brass details - but in the kitchen, time has been anything but standing still. Here, Åland's maritime heritage forms the backdrop for something new, exciting and delicious, where playful and innovative flavours are served for lunch, à la carte or as a tasting menu.

In summer, the NauticAltan outdoor terrace opens, offering lighter summer dishes with the same high level of high ambition as inside.

Everything under one roof

Park Alandia Hotel offers a great combination of good food, live music and enjoyable socialising. Drop in for a glass of wine or a cold beer – or something delicious to eat.

In the welcoming restaurant and bar, both locals and hotel guests feel at home. The menu features a fine selection of both small and large dishes, from classics such as spiced beef to sharing platters with fish, seafood or desserts. The idea is to enjoy and share the food together. The restaurant also runs a brewery of its own, so feel free to ask for the house beer!

Singer-songwriters and bands perform on Fridays and Saturdays all year round. In July, things get even livelier with live music from Wednesday to Saturday. During Rockoff Week, 17–25 July, bands play every evening, including the rockabilly favourites The Tri Tones.

In summer, the leafy and sunny outdoor terrace is a popular meeting place.

The restaurant focuses on high-quality ingredients and local produce, including ingredients from its own vertical farm. The filled subs are just as popular. All dishes are lactose-free and can easily be made gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan. Keep an eye out for themed evenings inspired by cuisines from around the world.

Åland’s only sushi restaurant offers fresh and flavourful sushi every day – both traditional favourites and its own unique Shima style.

At Torggatan 1, in the heart of Mariehamn, you’ll find Shima Restaurant. The name means “island” in Japanese, symbolising the meeting of two island worlds: Japan and Åland. The restaurateur has brought inspiration from both cultures together, in both flavours and atmosphere.

A POPULAR SUSHI BUFFET

Shima is open every day and offers both traditional sushi and its own creations. The focus is on fresh ingredients and local produce combined with carefully selected imported ingredients.

The idea is that everyone should find something to enjoy during their visit. That’s why Shima offers a wide range of gluten-free and lactose-free options, as well as many vegetarian and vegan dishes.

At lunchtime, from 11:00 to 14:00, the restaurant serves its lunch buffet for €15. If you prefer à la carte, that menu is available throughout the day.

We are proud of our dairy, where we process milk from Åland’s pure nature into award-winning products such as milk, yoghurt, crème fraîche and cheese. Each year we process 12 million litres of milk from nearby farms. In our bakery, we create artisan breads and pastries, partly made with Åland ingredients. Our dairy products are available in Åland and Finland, and our bread products are sold in Åland.

EXPLORE THE OUTDOORS

Close to your next adventure

Åland offers activities for everyone, no matter the season. Hike, cycle, kayak, or play golf. Try your luck at fishing, embark on an excursion, enjoy the serene nature, or take a refreshing dip in the sea. Whether you seek adventure or relaxation, there are endless opportunities to explore.

TIP! A day in Eckerö filled with history, wildlife safari and great food!

Start your day in Eckerö with a museum visit

Åland's Hunting and Fishing Museum is filled with stories, experiences and archipelago history for both children and adults. The Museum is located in a scenic setting amidst the boathouses at Käringsund's fishing harbour in Eckerö.

The Hunting and Fishing Museum is designed to resemble an old fishing village. Since its opening in 1995, the museum has been collecting memories, artefacts and stories of everyday Åland life on land and at sea, with a special focus on hunting and fishing. This year the museum celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Inside the charming building you will find exhibitions on seal hunting, springtime bird hunting, tools, boats, weapons and trophies. You can see how hunting and fishing have changed over time and how they have shaped life on the islands.

Children will find their own favourite in the herring market, a playful exhibit

inspired by a traditional herring market where you can sell, weigh and package fish. In the museum shop you will find gifts, books and Åland crafts.

PLAYFUL LEARNING

The museum offers more than just artefacts — it also features games, quizzes and hints, which are popular with younger visitors. Don't miss the Salmon Boat Svanö, where children love to climb around and fantasise about life at sea.

Outside the museum is the start of the Geotrail, a 350-metre-long nature trail that tells the story of Åland's geological history – ranging from the fiery prehistoric times to the traces left by the ice sheet. Equally educational for adults and exciting for children. Several geocaches in the area make the trail an extra fun experience for those who like treasure hunting with GPS.

Welcome to Gastropub Bodegan

Set in the heart of Käringsund’s picturesque fishing harbour, Bodegan is a cherished waterfront retreat, known for its delectable flavours, golden summer days, and easygoing spirit.

As you stroll along the pier, the aroma of fine cooking, the hum of lively conversation, and the warmth of the place invite you in. Bodegan offers an à la carte menu where timeless Åland specialities meet modern classics. From midday feasts to long, lazy evenings, there is something here for every family and lover of good food. Whether you choose the sun-kissed veranda, the old Salt Warehouse, or a table by the water’s edge, each meal is a moment to savour, framed by the beauty of the archipelago.

Just steps away, Bodegan’s quaint pub and small shop welcome you. Pause for coffee or ice cream with the little ones, sip something cool, or enjoy a light meal. The fishing harbour remains a lively meeting place for sailors, locals, and travellers alike.

GASTROPUB BODEGAN Fiskeläget 44, Eckerö, +358 18 38530, www.bodegan.ax

Go on a wildlife safari

Join a wildlife safari and meet red deer, fallow deer, wild boar, ostriches and llamas in the wildlife enclosure in Eckerö, Åland's own savannah.

It's an incredible experience to see these magnificent animals up close. The tour offers many memorable moments and great photo opportunities. You'll even get the chance to feed several of the animals.

The safari wagon starts at the car park next to the Åland Hunting and Fishing Museum in Käringsund and departs every hour during the high season. The safari ride takes about 45 minutes, with several stops in the 34-hectare wildlife enclosure.

SAFARI SHOP

Combine your visit with a stop at the safari shop. In addition to exotic meat products and ostrich eggs, you’ll find souvenirs, soft toys, as well as coffee, soft drinks and ice cream. Perfect while waiting for the safari wagon – or after your safari tour.

In the archipelago, it’s easy to stay active

At Sandösund Resort & Camping in Vårdö, you’ll enjoy a holiday with the sea as your closest neighbour. Stay in a cottage, hotel room or motorhome, with nature right outside your door.

With its location in the heart of the archipelago, Sandösund is a perfect starting point for exploring the surrounding islets and skerries. Kayaks, SUP boards and bicycles are available for rent. You can also play mini golf or disc golf, go fishing, hiking or enjoy a sauna.

The floating sauna and the shallow sandy beach are popular among both guests and day visitors. End your day in this archipelago idyll with coffee or traditional Åland home cooking in the restaurant.

Training and accommodation in the heart of Åland

Åland Sports Centre in Godby is a complete facility where you can combine activities for both body and mind with comfortable accommodation.

Here you stay at Godby hostel, with a sports hall, gym and swimming hall just a stone’s throw away. Outdoors, you’ll find tennis courts, jogging tracks and a popular exercise staircase that invites you to stay active all year round. In summer, you can easily rent a bicycle and explore the surroundings, and in winter, go long-distance ice skating.

The central location makes it easy to vary your days. Between training sessions, there are excursion destinations in every direction, as well as shops, beaches and hiking trails nearby.

Please note: the swimming hall is closed for the summer from 29 June to 2 August.

Glittering bays and verdant greens

We are at our best when we are out in nature, whether it's casting a rod or swinging a golf club.

Spinning for pike is the most popular fishing style in Åland, while sea trout presents an enticing challenge in early spring and late autumn. Spring is also the peak season for whitefish fishing, while summer and autumn are the best time for zander.

Perch fishing with spinners and jigs is a fun summer activity that suits most people, especially families.

Let a fishing guide show you the way! Along with gear and expert tips, you'll get help to find the best fishing spots in all seasons. What's more, you'll be well looked after, as the guides are ready to share the experiences they themselves are looking for.

PLAY THREE 18-HOLE COURSES

In Åland, the golf season starts in May and continues all the way until the end of October. Particularly popular is the Castle Course at Åland Golf Club, which receives much praise for its beautiful layout along Slottsundet, where you have views of the sea inlet from all 18 holes.

In addition to the Castle Course, the King’s Course is also available – a scenic and hilly 18-hole course with a forest character. The short-hole course Princess, with six par-3 holes, is perfect for anyone who wants to try golf or practise their technique.

Finish your Åland golf round with another 18 holes at Eckerö Golf Club. The course attracts golfers of all levels thanks to its four tee options.

Great tours in all directions

Discovering Åland from the saddle of a bike is just as wonderful as from the water. Rent a kayak or bike and set off among islands, skerries and red granite roads.

Out on the water, it's the sea that shows the way. There’s everything from calm bays for beginners to more challenging routes in the outer archipelago, with plenty of opportunities to pull ashore for a cooling swim – preferably with an experienced kayaking partner or guide.

For beginners, we recommend Paddelboden's courses or a guided tour amidst the islands south of Mariehamn or to Kobba Klintar. New for this year are tours where you pre-book a kayak spot, and then the weather and wind determine the best starting point. A dense archipelago with many small islands and calm waters for beginners can also be found on Föglö. A shorter trip around Mellanön in Eckerö is also a tip! For experienced paddlers

PADDELBODEN

looking for a challenge, there is the North Sea route, from Käringsund in the west to Jurmo in the east.

You can rent kayaks in Åland. The kayaks can be transported to your chosen starting point and picked up at the end of your tour, as long as there’s road access.

CYCLING HOLIDAYS

With cycle-friendly roads, quiet traffic and beautiful nature, Åland is made for cycling. Rent a bike for the day or set off on a longer excursion. The Åland Archipelago Trail is a great option – the distances are just right and the tour through the archipelago offers great stops for food, accommodation and a dip in the sea. Another nice scenic route is from Mariehamn to Snäckö in Geta where you can catch the Silvana bicycle ferry to Skarpnåtö in Hammarland. Or vice versa.

Tips for a safe cycling holiday

Cyclists love Åland's winding country roads with the opportunity to cycle in all directions. Sometimes along cycle paths, other times along charming village roads.

Cycling holidays in Åland are popular among leisure cyclists and road biking enthusiasts alike, who call Åland the Mallorca of the North, only better! This is thanks to the light traffic combined with superb roads and beautiful scenery. In total there are 1,100 kilometres of public roads and over 160 kilometres of cycle paths, perfect for cycling at any pace.

SAFE CYCLING – KEEP THIS IN MIND

The bicycle is a vehicle, and the same rules apply to cyclists as to car drivers. For cyclists, this means right-hand traffic both on roads and cycle lanes. Always look both ways at junctions and never ride straight into the junction.

As always in traffic, stay alert and adapt to the situation. Interaction with other road users is important, remember to signal in good time! Also check that you can turn safely, remember to look back before turning.

The safest way to cycle is in a single line. Bikes with more than two wheels must not be ridden side by side.

Don't forget a helmet and wear a reflective vest. A safe bicycle should also be equipped with a bell, working brakes, white reflectors at the front, red reflectors at the rear, two orange spoke reflectors, preferably a chain guard, and a front and rear light.

Before you head out, make sure you're familiar with the road signs. Have a nice bike ride!

Relaxing summer days with wonderful beach life

In fact, sunshine and swimming are all it takes to keep the whole family happy. Luckily, Åland has plenty of both.

Åland offers more than 30 public beaches. You’ll find them in all directions, so there is always one sheltered from the wind. There are also beaches for every preference. Young children often prefer sandy beaches, while older children look for diving towers. Bambölevik in Finström has both – plus rocks, a lawn and picnic tables with a barbecue area. The beach is located in a sheltered bay where the water is often slightly warmer than elsewhere.

SUN AND SWIMMING EVERY DAY

Popular with everyone is the long beach in Degersand, with an unbroken horizon facing the sea to the west. At this seaside spot, both children and adults enjoy jumping into the waves. When you need food

or drinks, there is both a beach bar and a popular restaurant.

Västerviken in Haraldsby in Saltvik is also popular, with a sandy beach, diving tower and volleyball net, but it is not shallow. For families with younger children, Notplan in Kroklund is more suitable. It also has a diving tower, sandy beach and a beach volleyball court. Families with small children also enjoy Bomarsund in Sund, Knutnäs in Geta and Klockarholmen in Lemland.

Sinting beach in the village of Degerby on Föglö is a true archipelago gem. Here you’ll find a sandy beach, diving tower, bathing rocks, a beach volleyball court and even a guest jetty for those arriving by boat.

In Mariehamn, there are three child-friendly beaches: Nabben, Mariebad, Lilla Holmen and Gröna Udden.

Fun even in winter

When nature goes into winter hibernation, slalom slopes, ski tracks and icy surfaces come alive with active winter sports enthusiasts.

For downhill skiers, Åland’s own alpine centre Germundö Alpin in Saltvik draws slalom and snowboard fans to its slopes. If you want speed, choose Valter's steep slope, while Ekoslingan offers slightly calmer descents. For beginners, the Green Loop is the best choice, while the Tövelbranten snow park challenges all skiers with jumps and boxes.

The Åland Ski and Biathlon Centre uses snow cannons to create great trails for cross-country skiing on the exercise tracks at Vikingahallen in Jomala. Thanks to artificial snow, fresh tracks are available even in milder weather. When winter brings sub-zero temperatures and natural snow, ski tracks are laid at most jogging tracks around Åland. For example, Wiklöf Holding Arena, Ytternäs sports field and Backebergs sports field in Mariehamn, at Hammarvallen in Hammarland, at Breidablick and Godby upper secondary school in Finström or at the jogging tracks in Lemland. In good snowy winters, skiing on the golf course in Kastelholm is a tip for those looking for beautiful views and nice ski tracks with reasonably steep slopes.

ICE FOR LONG-DISTANCE SKATING

In cold winters with good ice conditions, Åland offers a unique experience for long-distance skating – from the sheltered inner archipelago and open bays to the frozen sea. Even during milder winters, lakes provide excellent alternatives for ice adventures.

Welcome onboard a real sailing ship

Back in 1903, the four-masted steel barque Pommern began sailing the world's oceans. Now, 123 years after her first voyage, she is docked in Mariehamn, awaiting your visit.

Pommern joined the fleet of Åland shipowner Gustaf Erikson in 1923. Here she mainly sailed the grain trade route between Europe and Australia.

From May to September, you can step aboard and join a fictional 100-day voyage around the world in the 1930s and experience seafaring life with all your senses. Start on the weather deck where you'll walk around with an audio guide and eavesdrop on the crew. While the adults listen to their audio guide, the children will hear Ruby, the quirky ship's rat, reveal her secrets on board. Ruby's eagerness and the soundtrack of the departure are so real that many young listeners have been convinced that the ship is actually going to

leave the dock. Below deck, you can relive the journey in two new ways. Firstly, by trying out tasks yourself, then a powerful weather experience awaits in the form of a sound and light show in the hold.

Pommern's digital guide has everything you need to discover the ship. Explore the guide for free in the Bloomberg Connects app.

PRESERVING THE LEGACY OF THE POMMERN

Pommern is alive with activity. Visitors can watch ongoing maintenance work being carried out using traditional methods, keeping maritime craftmanship alive. Visitors are welcome to stop and observe the work being carried out and to ask the crew questions about this iconic ship’s upkeep.

Discover a world-class maritime museum

The Åland Maritime Museum is full of priceless objects, hidden treasures and personal life stories that range from the age of sail to modern shipping.

The Åland Maritime Museum is all about experience and discovery. Best of all are the immersive environments that take you onboard and show glimpses of life at sea in all times. For example, you can hoist the sails, see what the sailor packed in the seaman's chest or enjoy the splendour of the captain's saloon on the Herzogin Cecilie.

The museum’s special exhibition “Cruise Fever” is a nostalgic family exhibition about ferry crews and leisure cruises. Experience life on board the ferries of the 1970s and 1980s, when passenger traffic in the Baltic Sea developed like never before. Step aboard the museum’s own ferry! Stand behind the counter in the duty-free shop, welcome passengers at the reception and listen to stories from the crew.

CHILD-FRIENDLY MUSEUM

Visiting the museum is extra fun when the whole family enjoys it. At the Maritime Museum, children and adults can discover and learn together, and even try things out in practice. Can you, for example, distribute the cargo on the freighter without it tipping over? The treasure hunt with the museum's mascot, Ruby the ship's rat, and the imaginative playroom ‘Ruby and the Sea’ are among the highlights. Don't miss the genuine pirate flag, a real treasure! Combine your visit to the Maritime Museum with a visit on board the Pommern. The ticket includes both visits.

Discover one of the world's finest archipelagos

Åland has so many islands that even the locals haven’t explored them all. In total, there are around 6,700 islands and islets scattered in the archipelago. How many can you discover in a single day?

Kumlinge from north to south

Kumlinge consists of the main islands Kumlinge, Enklinge, Seglinge and Björkö. All with unique nature and character, from coniferous forests on northern Enklinge to lush hazel groves on southern Seglinge. Nature is always close by – you can explore marked hiking trails, take a kayak trip or fish from a boat in all seasons. www.kumlinge.ax

A magical island

In Kökar, the fascinating island of Källskär beckons with interesting ice-age formations and unexpected environments created by Baron Göran Åkerhielm in the 1960s. He loved hosting guests, one of the most famous being the author and artist Tove Jansson. During the high season, guided tours depart daily from Hotel Brudhäll. www.kokar.ax

Archipelago life awaits in Brändö

Brändö’s ten idyllic villages offer a vivid glimpse into Åland’s archipelago culture, from Midsummer traditions to the cluster of red boathouses in Åva village harbour. Summer favourites also include the traditional archipelago dances and, of course, all the restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy local flavours. www.brando.ax

A harbour stop in Sottunga

The harbour in Sottunga is a lovely meeting place –arrive by archipelago ferry or your own boat. Here you’ll find the summer restaurant Salteriet, known for its schnitzel, and comfortable accommodation at Strandhugget B&B. Visit the local shop and explore the hiking trails for a complete Sottunga experience. www.sottunga.ax

Culture in large and small doses

Vårdö author Anni Blomqvist's novels about Stormskär's Maja were revived as a film last year. On the island of Simskäla, you can visit her author's home Strömmen. In Vargata you will find Åland's smallest museum, an old telephone booth with an exhibition on the history of the tele communications. www.vardo.ax

Join us for more archipelago adventures

Åland consists of a main island in the west and six archipelago municipalities spread across a delightful cluster of islands in the east. The larger islands are inhabited and can be reached either by your own boat or by the archipelago ferries.

Each archipelago municipality has its own charm – from Finland’s smallest municipality, Sottunga, with just over 100 inhabitants, to Kökar in the southern outer archipelago. Furthest north lies Brändö, like a true string of pearls of islands.

Discover also Vårdö’s lush apple orchards and the island municipality of Kumlinge, surrounded by fairways in the middle of the archipelago.

What they all have in common is the ever-present sea and nature, and a strong sense of hospitality. Choose between

cottages, hotels, guesthouses, campsites or guest harbours – then simply arrive and enjoy archipelago life. Visit the archipelago’s restaurants and cafés or shop for local produce in the small but well-stocked grocery stores.

PLENTY OF SIGHTS TO DISCOVER

In the Middle Ages, King Valdemar’s sailing route passed via Kökar, where a seafarers’ chapel and a Franciscan monastery were built on Hamnö. Today, you can visit the monastery cellar with finds from the monastic era.

To learn more about the archipelago’s fascinating maritime history, visit the Archipelago Museum and Norrgård’s Atelier on Lappo in Brändö. On Enklinge in Kumlinge, the Hermas archipelago

homestead tells the story of the hard life of fishing farmers. Also visit Kumlinge church with its impressive murals.

On Vårdö, the Åland School Museum, Seffers homestead and Wennström’s general store present life in earlier times from different perspectives. On Sottunga, the red chapel church is well worth a visit – one of three wooden churches in Åland.

ACTIVITIES

ALL YEAR ROUND

Rent a bike or kayak if you want to get close to nature. Or go hiking – all municipalities offer great trails. You can also go fishing, play disc golf and tennis, work out at the gym or enjoy sunbathing and swimming.

Exploring the archipelago is easy. Take your car or bike on the archipelago ferries, or visit the islands by your own boat –there are many guest harbours. Kumlinge even has its own airfield!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY LONGER?

The archipelago municipalities welcome new residents and offer fibre connections, homes by the sea and, most importantly – a true quality of life! Contact the municipalities if you are interested in a tour of day-care centres, schools, libraries and residential areas. Discover life in the archipelago!

Föglö is buzzing all summer long

Head out into the archipelago and discover a lively and cheerful municipality with a packed calendar –from rockabilly to dance band festivals.

In addition to market evenings throughout the summer, the traditional Midsummer celebration on 19 June, with maypole raising in three different villages, kicks off the event season. Föglö Day on 27 June is another highlight, with visiting tall ships, a market and folk music on the square in Degerby.

THE LONGEST DANCE BAND FESTIVAL IN THE NORDICS

In July, incredible days of music and dancing await. The Åland Dance Band Festival at the archipelago restaurant Seagram truly takes traditional pier dancing to a new level. Here you can combine great food and drinks with dancing right by the shoreline.

The Nordics’ longest dance band festival celebrates its 5th anniversary this year with 9 vibrant days on 3–11 July. Performers include Blender, Larz-Kristerz, Lasse Stefanz, Guns Rosor and Casanovas.

At the same time, Countrytorget takes place in central Degerby with food, drinks, music and free entry. The festival begins with Rockabilly Weekend, a car show and 50s–60s music on 2–4 July, followed by live music and authentic country atmosphere from 5–12 July.

Many also choose Föglö for its tranquillity and nature. In addition to dancing and festivities, you’ll find everything from disc golf, beach volleyball, nature trails and museums to beaches, forest yoga and farm visits.

Mariehamn – the capital of Åland

Discover the town where everything is within easy reach. A charming centre filled with shops, restaurants, experiences and services awaits you – all year round.

It’s no coincidence that Mariehamn was named “Town Centre of the Year” in Finland in 2024. Here, small-town charm is combined with big-city offerings. Whether you want to shop, enjoy culture and history, take a dip in the sea or simply stroll along the beaches, everything is close at hand.

A VIBRANT TOWN CENTRE ALL YEAR ROUND

The centre has around 70 shops and more than 30 restaurants and cafés, making both residents and visitors choose Mariehamn for shopping, dining and socialising. The shops are small and unique, offering a fine selection of local products and international brands.

Mariehamn’s centre is lively all year round, with events and activities for the

whole family – from Easter markets and summer flea markets to themed days, live music and atmospheric Christmas events. During summer, the square and pedestrian street are especially lively. Flowering plantings and specially designed Åland summer furniture create an inviting atmosphere where you can sit down and enjoy a break in the sun. In winter, maritime-themed lighting illuminates the streets.

PARK FOR FREE WITH A PARKING DISC

Parking is free in Mariehamn. In the town centre, parking is limited to two hours, while parking garages allow up to three hours. Remember to use a parking disc. For longer stays with a motorhome or caravan, Gröna Uddens Camping, about one kilometre from the centre, is recommended.

DISCOVER THE MARITIME QUARTER

Artists, artisans, blacksmiths, boat builders and pizza makers come together in a welcoming community in the Maritime Quarter. Visit them in the town’s eastern harbour, among the red boathouses. Summer is the liveliest time, but the area is open all year round and always popular for a stroll. Sit down by the quay, visit the museum or wander around and enjoy the atmosphere. The Seafarers’ Chapel offers a peaceful sense of calm. Several events are held throughout the year, such as the tar market and the Christmas market.

CULTURE AND QUIET TIME AT THE LIBRARY

The town library is a landmark in its own right, impressive both inside and out – a large cultural living room with exhibitions and events for all ages. Here you can of course read or borrow books and magazines. Free Wi-Fi and board games are also available. Younger visitors are especially drawn to the cosy children’s section with its story room. Don’t miss the Alandica collection, which includes most of what has been written about Åland. The town library is the blue building next to the bus station, at Strandgatan 29.

MARIEHAMN IN MINIATURE

Want to know what Mariehamn looked like in the past? Visit the Mariehamn Museum, where a miniature model of the town in the 1920s is on display. The buildings are constructed according to original drawings, and many fun details are included – such as cats and chimney sweeps on the rooftops! Summer opening: mid-June to mid-August, Tuesday–Sunday 12:00–15:00. The rest of the year: Saturdays 13:00–15:00. The museum is located at Ålandsvägen 42.

Get moving and playing around town

Mariehamn is a town full of activities for all ages. Whether you want to take a walk, go down a slide, swim or challenge your friends to beach volleyball, there’s something for you.

Mariehamn is easy to explore on foot. The distance between the town’s eastern and western harbours is just over one kilometre.

SEVERAL PLACES FOR PLAY

The town square is a natural meeting place in the centre. Here you can play largeformat board games. From spring to autumn, game boards, pieces and equipment are available to borrow from the wooden boxes nearby. You can organise tournaments in giant chess, Ludo or beanbag dart.

For younger visitors, there is a playground with an almost eight-metre-high climbing structure, three slides, in-ground

trampolines, swings and a rocking ship. Around the town there are more than 20 other public playgrounds, many located near beaches and parks. Miramarparken next to the town library is especially popular with families. There is also a skate park here, where both beginners and experienced skaters can test their skills.

If you have a four-legged friend, there are also two dog parks in Mariehamn.

BADHUSPARKEN WITH DISC GOLF

In Badhusparken on the western side, there is a 9-hole disc golf course. Discs can be borrowed from Åland Tourist Information at Torggatan 6.

VOLLEYBALL BY THE BEACHES

If you enjoy beach volleyball, there is a court at Nabben beach, one at Lilla holmen and three outside the Mariebad swimming centre.

www.mariehamn.ax/friluftsliv

DISCOVER MARIEHAMN ON FOOT

Enjoy a walk along the trails alongside the shoreline of Mariehamn. In the west, the paths along the rocky shores has wooden stairs and ramps. Take a seat on the rocks or benches to enjoy the view and the evening sun. The eastern shore is more low-lying. Here you pass marinas, sandy beaches and the meadow nature park Tullarns äng. For themed town walks visit: www.mariehamn.ax/stadsvandringar

FREE OUTDOOR EXERCISE

Mariehamn has several exercise tracks and outdoor gyms that are free to use – perfect for those who want to raise their heart rate or do some strength training. Choose between Idrottsparken in the centre of Mariehamn, Backeberg in the north or the Baltichallen area in the south, where there's also a 36-step exercise staircase. The newest outdoor gym is located outside the Mariebad swimming centre.

A SWIMMING CENTRE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Mariebad offers a 65.5 metre water slide, saunas, a jacuzzi, an 8-lane exercise pool and shallow pool for younger ones. The leisure pool with its massage jets and water cave connects to the outdoor pool. From the outdoor pool and the large veranda you have a fantastic view of the sea bay and sandy beach. The café serves ice cream, food and drinks. For extra luxury, book the relaxation area or spa treatments. Visit Mariebad at Österleden 68.

Beaches and nature close to the town

Ever since Mariehamn was founded in 1861, green areas for rest and recreation have been an important part of the townscape.

Within walking distance, you have four sandy beaches to choose from – all located along the eastern side of the town.

LILLA HOLMEN

Closest to the centre is Lilla holmen, a beach and recreational area. The family-friendly sandy beach is just as popular for sunbathing on warm summer days as it is for brave winter swimmers.

In summer, there is an ice cream kiosk as well as access to toilets and changing rooms. The beach is also accessible, with a ramp into the water, a spacious changing cabin and the possibility to borrow a beach wheelchair from June to August.

For those who want to be active, there are balance trails, obstacle courses, a climbing ship, swings and games to borrow. You can also visit chickens, peacocks and rabbits.

NABBEN BEACH

Furthest north is the town’s largest beach. It is child-friendly with shallow water and a bathing raft. A newly built playground is located at the beach. In summer, there is an ice cream kiosk as well as access to toilets and changing rooms.

MARIEBAD BEACH

Near the Maritime Quarter, you’ll find the Mariebad swimming centre. In summer, the beach is open to the public. The swimming centre has a café serving food.

GRÖNA UDDEN

South of the natural area Tullarns äng, there is a beach managed by Gröna Uddens Camping. The area also offers a summer café, mini golf and a sauna.

ANIMALS AND PLANTS IN THE WETLANDS

In the town’s wetlands, there are walking paths with wooden boardwalks, benches and viewing points, as well as signs with information about the rich animal and plant life. You can both read about the ecosystems and experience them up close. The wetlands purify rainwater to help the Baltic Sea and biodiversity. The Nabben wetland is located at the innermost part of the bay near the eastern harbour. Apalängen wetland, with a birdwatching tower, is situated at the innermost part of the bay west of Mariehamn.

Find the wetlands and read more at: www.mariehamn.ax/vatmark

A GREEN OASIS IN THE CENTRE

In the museum park near Lilla holmen, the town has built a sedimentation pond. The pond purifies Mariehamn’s central stormwater before it reaches the Baltic Sea. At the same time, it is a beautiful place for recreation, with several seating areas and an illuminated artwork in the centre. From the pond, you can walk west along the Esplanade linden alley or stroll south through the nature area of Tullarns äng.

PARKS AND NATURE AREAS

Mariehamn has many parks where you can take a walk or sit down and enjoy nature. Two of them, Espholm and Tullarns äng, are even Natura 2000 areas.

For more information about all parks, including walking paths, seating, terrain and surfaces, visit: www.mariehamn.ax/parker

9-day city festival in the heart of Mariehamn

Welcome to Rockoff Festival, the big summer music event in the heart of Mariehamn. On 17–25 July, the town square transforms into a lively festival area with music, food and drink, and more than 30 live performances on stage.

The whole town comes alive during Rockoff week, filled with crowds and a joyful atmosphere. Over nine action-packed days in July, around 28,000 visitors gather in the square to socialise and enjoy food, music, summer and a fantastic vibe.

During the day, entry is free. In the evening, from 19:00 to 24:00, a ticket is required – choose between a festival pass or a day ticket. The programme offers a wide mix of artists, from pop and Melodifestivalen favourites to hard rock, party music and house.

FAVOURITES FOR EVERYONE

Each evening features concerts with one or more artists, often with different themes.

Artists popular among children and young people usually open the evening. Between performances, the house band keeps the energy high on the smaller stage.

On the main stage, you can see artists such as Soppgirobygget, Takida, Niklas Strömstedt, Medina, von Disco, Freddy Kalas, Ida-Lova and Dolly Style.

THE RESTAURANT OFFERS THE BEST VIEW

Some prefer to stand close to the stage, dancing and singing along, while others like to sit down with a good view. If that sounds like you, book dinner at the VIP stand for the best seats at the festival – but hurry, as they sell out quickly.

When the last artist leaves the stage, the festival continues with Rockoff’s official afterparty at Kino Nightclub on Nygatan 1. The final festival night traditionally ends with fireworks.

TOTAL FESTIVAL of chamber music

In August, Åland transforms into a flowing source of inspiration for music lovers. The cultural association Katrina presents a four-day chamber music festival with around ten events at various venues.

This year’s theme, TOTAL FESTIVAL, is inspired by the concept of totalitarianism and the philosopher Hannah Arendt. Everything is woven together through art, music and discussions about freedom and oppression.

The festival’s artistic director, Cecilia Zilliacus, is truly outstanding. With her network of professional musicians, she has created a festival programme that includes concerts, masterclasses and free events. Tip: a 3-concert pass for €50 gives you a TOTAL experience!

Dress to lift your mood – follow Marie's philosophy

Over the last 15 years Marie Backman-Thors has set about sharing her love of colour, patterns and clothing through her brand Dress Like Marie.

Marie runs both online and physical stores with her daughters Lisa and Emelie. The design process is deeply collaborative with each garment speaks directly to Marie's philosophy - that what you wear has a direct impact on how you feel.

In the store, we will help you to emphasise your uniqueness and find the pieces that work with your figure and personality. Sometimes it's just about being challenged and daring to try new things. At Dress like Marie the goal is to help women find their style and become more confident in it. Visit Marie in her shop in the centre of Mariehamn at Torggatan 12, or see the range in the webshop: www.dresslikemarie.com

STYLING TIPS THAT CREATE BALANCE

Do you want to build outfits you feel comfortable in, where all your curves have room? Here are Marie’s top 5 tips for a balanced look:

1. Choose loose-fitting garments that fall nicely – garments in soft and supple materials that do not tighten around the stomach give a flattering impression.

2. A-line styles are your best friend – they create a nice silhouette and give an airy and comfortable drape.

3. Layering is the key– a longer open cardigan or blazer lengthens and balances the body.

4. Pattern and colour can be used strategically – small patterned garments, diagonal lines and monochrome outfits can create a harmonious look.

5. Opt for stretchy, high-waisted skirts –they smooth out and give a comfortable fit without cutting in. You can find more styling tips at Dresslikemarie.com/blog

Creativity meets coffee and charm at Viktor

Vintage, secondhand, used, pre-loved, reused, recycled – this beloved concept goes by many names, and it blends beautifully with arts, crafts and Åland creativity.

Viktor Craft & Design on the pedestrian street in Mariehamn is a place to discover local creativity. Here you will find a nice mix of arts and crafts, design, second-hand and recycling along with other selected and beautiful things.

The shop is named after Viktor Eriksson, who built the first wooden house on the site at the turn of the century. Today, fashion designer Linda von Köhler, textile artisan Inger Nygård and artisan jeweller Annika Åkerfelt offer both their own brands and selected craft and design products in the cosy shop environment that feels like a cute little doll's house for adults.

HOME-BAKED IN THE CAFÉ

After shopping, coffee or lunch awaits in Viktor's equally cosy café. There's something for everyone, just sit down in the lounge and enjoy something sweet, salty or savoury. Many reasons to visit Telegrafen

A lovely meeting place for wine, food and shopping can be found at Telegrafen on Torggatan 6 in Mariehamn.

Although Telegrafen is newly built, the façade blends seamlessly into the townscape – it feels as if the shopping centre has been here for decades. The building is also an attraction in itself, featuring Åland’s first living plant wall on the exterior and one of the city’s oldest stone houses from 1928 preserved indoors.

WINE BAR AND RESTAURANT

The stone house was originally a relay station, but today it houses Åland’s only dedicated wine bar, decorated in an art deco style inspired by the elegance of the 1920s. Every Wednesday from 18:00, open wine tastings are held with different themes. At other times, sommelier Johan is happy to help you create your own tasting experience.

If you’d like something to eat, take a seat in the square outside the wine bar and enjoy cheese and charcuterie from Dagmars Delikatesser, well-filled subs and flavourful pasta from Subs & Pasta, or refined small dishes from the bistro.

A TOWN WITHIN A TOWN

With its square, alleys and shops, Telegrafen feels like a town within a town. The growing selection includes Åland’s tourist information centre, Alko, Zic Zac Butiken, Synsam, Designmagasinet and Dagmars Delikatesser. In direct connection, you’ll also find the café Bagel Bee, Klipp upp and Varuboden City. Welcome to Mariehamn’s most beautiful shopping destination!
