Andrews-Katz: How did The 5th Avenue Theatre is a you get involved with the 5th landmark in Seattle. In addition to Avenue Theatre? bringing quality entertainment to Puget Sound for almost a century, see armstrong the 5th Avenue has branched out page 33 into producing original shows, and is responsible for some of today’s biggest Broadway hits. For the last decade, a lot of that credit goes to the artistic director, David Armstrong. With a long history of theater experience and a sharp eye for the upcoming successes of tomorrow’s shows, David Armstrong spoke to the SGN about what goes into planning a theatrical season, the upcoming shows and past musical memories.

Eric Andrews-Katz: What was the first musical you ever saw?

David Armstrong: When I was 5 years old, my mother took a few of my friends and myself to see the movie Dumbo. We went into the wrong theater and saw the musical Gypsy instead.

Fans of electronic dance music be warned: Haley is coming to town!

The up-and-coming singer/songwriter, who got her start singing for American DJ Kaskade, is scheduled to perform at Neighbours Nightclub for the C89 Listener Appreciation Party on August 14.

Seattle Gay News caught up with Haley to discuss music, DJ’s, and her LGBT fan base.

“I went to Seattle when I was 17, and ever since then, I always wanted to come back,” Haley, whose August 14 show will be her musical debut in the Emerald City, told SGN. “I am excited to get the opportunity to come back.”

Seattle’s Jazz Alley is considered one of the top jazz spots in the U.S. The large, elegant club changes its format and its feel with great frequency. Last week, John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey, a husband-and-wife duo off stage, brought their New York cabaret act to The Alley, turning the club into a stylish, intimate Big Apple cabaret. This weekend, The Kevin Eubanks Band turns the club back into a big jazz band hotspot as the award-winning jazz guitarist and the former musical director of The Tonight Show brings his popular group back to The Alley.

Next Monday night, The Alley becomes a free attraction as the Amina Figarova Sextet makes

It’s the calm before the storm. Two weeks before Lady GaGa rides into town – close to selling out, by the way – the music scene is in a rare tranquil state, unless you count the exciting buzz of two prominent artists returning to Seattle for late summer/fall concerts.

Queen Latifah comes out?

her personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins vacationing in SaintJean-Cap-Ferrat, France, on a yacht with Alicia Keys and her new hubby Swizz Beats.

The photos show the Queen and Jeanette in more than one romantic embrace, making it clear she’s out of the closet – intentionally or unintentionally.

It is rumored that the doting couple went topside to embrace and celebrate the overturning of California’s Proposition 8.

Queen Latifah has kept mum about the photos, and it is unclear if she and Jeanette even knew they were being photographed. Latifah’s silence on the matter is no surprise; for years, the hip-hop star and actress, whose real name is Dana Owens, has dodged the question about her sexual preference just as Ricky Martin had.

Mad Men or True Blood? Neil Patrick Harris, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, or Chris Colfer? Pick the winners carefully because it might win you a cool prize at our upcoming Emmy Awards Party. Yankee Tavern ACT Theatre Through August 29 Sip from a heady cocktail of conspiracy theories – or “facts,” as writer Steven Dietz will correct you – at ACT Theatre’s production of Yankee Tavern. If you do, you might find yourself getting woozy with ideas and pieces of information that don’t add up, and uneasiness about whether there were nefarious plans and secret non-Muslim conspirators that gained in the aftermath of the 9/11 disaster.

Dietz writes smart dialogue and includes real, verifiable facts that cause you to question and even buy into some conspiracy issues in his play, but the entire production doesn’t quite lead to anything but more chaos and confusion. The aim of the production is not clear, especially when the more spooky and interesting second act produces surprising twists and then ends abruptly.

The entire play takes place in a New York bar in 2006. Tavern owner Adam (Shawn Telford) and his fiancée Janet (Jennifer Lee Taylor) tolerate the raging pronouncements of Ray (Charles Leggett), a conspiracy believer, because he was best friends with Adam’s father. Ray believes that Adam’s father committed suicide, and Ray converses with his ghost in the upper floors of the rest of the abandoned building.

The young couple doesn’t appear to buy anything that Ray says until a mysterious stranger walks in (R. Hamilton Wright) and chimes in with support for Ray’s rantings

with tidbits that suggest the stranger knows more than he’s saying. Subtly, that influences the couple to pay more attention to the veracity of Ray’s statements.

Act Two entangles Adam in his own conspiratorial types of activities, though Janet has a hard time believing Adam would lie to her so thoroughly. Wright’s character, Palmer, has a lot of information for Janet, since he’s been following Adam’s activities, but why we should care about any of that is not clear. In fact, it’s probably only due to Wright’s accomplishments as an actor that we care about Palmer’s murky connections at all. In less compassionate hands, we probably would dislike Palmer intensely, rather than almost wanting to know more about him and how he got to this point.

Charles Leggett as Ray brings a humanity and a sense of frustration that the world is not paying attention to this important information. If only people would really investigate it! His ability as an actor also means that one pays more attention to what he’s saying than probably any other conspiracy theorist you’ve ever had the opportunity to listen to. He lends plausibility to what he’s saying.

Taylor is very watchable as the woman caught up with all these men, trying to hold her own, watching her self-sufficiency get eroded. She has an affecting speech in the second act about wanting to “know” someone who was killed in the attacks. But all in all, we don’t get to care enough about her to be very moved when her life disintegrates.

Nor about Adam, who seems just to become some dupe of his professor. Dietz basically

The physical production is excellent, with a great bar by set designer Matthew Smucker, including a rundown H-TEL sign, moody lighting by Rick Paulsen, and terrific sound effects (of subway trains, trucks, garbage collection, and other outdoor noises) from Brendan Patrick Hogan. Director Dietz uses the in-the-round staging well.

number of areas we’ve perhaps thought of as settled in the 9/11 attacks, and maybe ready to change an attitude or two in the second act. Zoo Tunes rocks, Storm sets records

by Mercy Moosemuzzle SGN Contributing Writer Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter at Zoo Tunes Mercy has long been a fan of Mary Chapin Carpenter. She hadn’t heard of Carpenter’s warm up-act, Shawn Colvin, but Cuteness had, since she is more in the know. Colvin has a nice voice and guitar work. High points of her original set were “Another Long One Tonight,” “Let’s Blame it on the Sun,” and “Sonny Came Home.”

Between sets, Cuteness overheard a child asking if the tiger was real or a costume, and a teenager say, “When I see music, I don’t really care to see the person.”

Carpenter has a very nice band: John Jennings on electric guitar, Jim Henry on acoustical and electric guitar, Vinnie Santori on drums, Don Yun on bass, and John Carroll on piano. They work well with her big voice.

She talked about her life being interrupted. Cuteness did some research and found out the crisis had been a pulmonary embolism. Mercy admired Carpenter’s resilience.

The songs of Mary’s that stood out for Mercy were, “Last Night I Put my Ring Back On,” “I Take My Chances,” and “Come on Down to the Twist and Shout.”

Storm vs. Sun A friend of Mercy’s asked her how close the press seats she sits in are. She grinned and said they were close enough to see the players’ muscles ripple. Cuteness and Destiny were up in their pretty good seats, chatting and not paying attention to the game between the Storm and the Connecticut Sun, because they expected it to be an easy game

for the home team. As predicted, we went into halftime at 45-37. During the fourth quarter, the Suns pulled ahead 62-66. As Cuteness said, “Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson’s shooting was a bit off, while Renee Montgomery of the Suns kept going to her favorite spot and making three-pointers.”

The score was one point apart, at the end, when two free throws by Tanisha Wright gave the Storm the 83-82 victory. Swin Cash was named player of the game with her 21 points. Meanwhile, Destiny’s nickname for Svettlana Abromisova is Bossa Nova, for her dance-like moves. Cuteness’ is Casanova, because she likes her.

Cuteness points out that the Storm has the best chance in a long time for taking the championship with wonderful players like Swin Cash, Camille Little, and LeCoe Willingham on their bench.

Storm vs. Shock Mercy and Cuteness got to the Storm vs. Shock game early so Cuteness could get a Lauren Jackson bobblehead for Equality. The supply at the season ticket entrance ran out just ahead of them, so they had to circle to general admission. Cuteness thinks they should have rewarded the people who support the team by buying subscriptions by having a bigger supply. She was willing to impersonate a one-night stand person if it got her a bobblehead, which it did.

The game against the Tulsa Shock was pretty one-sided at halftime (60-27). Mercy said to Cuteness she would like it a bit closer, for interest, as long as it wasn’t as close as the previous game. Cuteness said she liked it to be a blowout. She got her wish. The final score of 111-65 was the biggest lead in WNBA history, and tied for the highest score ever. Frequent turnovers in the Storm’s

Lauren Jackson was named player of the game, but only made 12 of those 111 points.

What was exciting about the game was how evenly the points were spread. Svetlana “Bossa Nova” made 20, Swin Cash 18.

Rookie Jana Vesela made 11. Camille Little, Tanisha Wright, and Ashley Robinson made 10 each. This is a team where every player can score. It looks good for the championship.

Starting next Wednesday, Columbia City Cinema will be showing current productions from famous European opera houses (and London’s Globe Theatre). They will show at 4 p.m. ($15) and at 7 p.m. ($20)

Columbia City manager Paul said, “We wanted to price it a little lower but we are the exclusive Seattle franchisee and the price is mandated by the distributor.” This is still cheaper than the Met Live in HD shows, and a whole lot less expensive than going to the opera house! And the opening, Aida, is FREE! These screenings are not, of course, live (unlike the Met’s Live in HD shows on Saturday mornings), but they are filmed in front of a live audience. So, you are seeing the “real thing” rather than a carefully edited version. Thus, much of the original excitement of the live performance is captured.

The set list for Quebec included a smattering of older songs (“Du Hast,” “Sonne,” “Ich Will,” “Du Riechst So Gut”) and most of their new album (Liebe Ist Für Alle Da. See my review in this very paper, 11/6/09, plug plug), all of which burn down the house in performance, but there will always be fans who will moan “I wish they’d played (fill in the blank).” This just proves what a crazy stupid roster of great songs they have which they may never, ever play live (such as “Mann Gegen Mann,” probably the most Gay-positive hard rock song to be conceived by a bunch of straight boys). But judging by the consistently orgasmic response that met every number, this enthusiastic multinational au-

Traditionally, Flake has been the band’s designated “chew toy,” braving trauma such as simulated anal congress (“Buck Dich”), being boiled alive (“Mein Teil”), and his incineration in “Ich Tu Dir Weh.” Still, he’s rewarded with a leisurely cruise over the bounding main of the audience in a rubber dinghy during one of the closing numbers, “Haifisch.” (This can go on for some time, depending on the crowd’s willingness to send Flake back to the stage – in this case, he had cruised halfway to Nova Scotia before he could convince the adoring throng he really needed to finish the song that day.)

While Rammstein is hot enough – in more ways than one – to satisfy any audience without a warmup act, in this case, they got one that stoked the fires with blazing finesse: Apocalyptica.

Oh so many metal bands have tried to marry classical music to rock, but this Finnish quartet has succeeded in a way that would leave Rick Wakeman and Ian Anderson slackjawed; three classically trained cellists have actually taught that venerable instrument to shred like Hendrix at Monterey.

Following a perfectly smashing set, they helped polish off the evening by joining Rammstein onstage to enrich the two final numbers, “Haifisch” and “Ich Will.” (FYI: Apocalyptica will be visiting Seattle on September 11, at the Showbox SoDo – go!)

So anyway, as I was saying: WTF is lacking in the soul of 21stcentury Amerika that we can no longer produce artists that can raise the dead and kick arsch as effectively as Rammstein? Synchronistically, Rammstein began in 1994, the same year our last messiah, K. Cobain, put his own lights out – ironic foreshadowing, perhaps?

An acknowledgement that Beethoven, Bach, and Wagner started the fire way back when, and Lindemann & Co. are merely picking up the torch (so to speak)? The aching heart of Deutschland compensating for a grim, too-recent past? Rammstein puts on black leather, howls like a regiment of testosterone-jacked Valkyries, and double-dog dares the teutophobic to find anything other than what they claim to be: “Love in all its manifestations.”

But seriously: If you have any love in your heart for rock music whatsoever, appeal to the deity of your choice that Rammstein sees fit to bring their scorched-earth brand of sonic salvation to our shores soon, before we disappear completely under a tsunami of nondescript emo-rockers and American Idol androids forever. Now, excuse me while I sacrifice a goat and a case of Jägermeister to my personal savior, Till Lindemann….

The Wildest Dream Now Playing Anthony Geffen’s new film, The Wildest Dream, has it all: perilous expeditions to exotic locales, spine-tingling action/adventure sequences, dizzying cinematography, handsome heroes, the gorgeous women who love them, and a couple of juicy love stories. If that’s not enough, the film will be screened in IMAX. Oh yeah, and it’s also a documentary.

The Wildest Dream chronicles the lives of George Mallory and Conrad Anker, two men whose mountaineering adventures are inextricably intertwined despite being separated in time by more than 75 years. Mallory is best known for his famous reply to the question, “Why do you want to climb Mt. Everest?” Anker is best known for finding Mallory’s weathered remains on Everest’s treacherous northeast ridge. (Anker is also an author, film producer, humanitarian, all-around nice guy, and quite simply one of the best mountain climbers ever.)

Irvine, disappeared near Everest’s summit in 1924. They were last spotted just below the infamous Second Step, a rocky precipice that’s been bridged by a 15-foot aluminum ladder since 1975. The debate continues to this day as to whether, or not, Mallory and Irvine had the skill to successfully freeclimb the feature with their ’20s-era gear and clothing.

I briefly spoke to Anker during the screening’s short intermission, and via phone a couple of days later. When asked if he believes Mallory and Irvine made the summit Anker says, “There’s a good chance they could have. It’s not impossible. Their love affair, chronicled in more detail in the 2007 documentary The Endless Knot, grew from the grief and guilt around the 1999 avalanche that took Lowe’s life and nearly killed Anker.

The Wildest Dream is now playing at the Pacific Science Center’s IMAX theater. It is truly a documentary that has it all. Club kids everywhere will tell you there’s no question that electronic music is moving into the mainstream, and Haley is along for the ride. “I love the energy of the music and I love the energy of the fans,” she said. “I also love being able to create music that people can relate to or connect with in some way – and you can’t help but dance. It’s a break from the blah.”

Haley says that, although her music sounds different, when she first started writing music she was inspired by Tori Amos, Jewel, and Natalie Imbruglia. “I wanted to tell my story like they were,” she said.

Haley’s upcoming solo album All This Love is due out in September. “It’s really about the lure of the physical and the emotional in a relationship that keeps you coming back for more,” she told SGN. The world first got a glimpse of Haley’s vocals when she sang for Kaskade. “I will forever be grateful to Kaskade for seeing something in me and taking a chance on me,” she explained. “It’s been a blast to be able to sing for a DJ that I am such a huge fan of and have so much respect for. He is not only hugely talented, but he is a great guy. Very down-to-earth. Very real.”

Haley told SGN she is appreciative of her LGBT fans. “I feel grateful to all my fans and I am honored that they are listening – they are the driving force behind all the hard work,” she said.

“When I perform live, it’s so rewarding to actually see people’s reaction to my music,” she said. “I mean, you spend so much time in the studio working on the album, trying to get it just right, and then you send it out into the world hoping people relate to it and like it. But you aren’t with them when they hear the song to see their reaction. I love being able to actually see people’s response to a song. I also love the energy from the crowd – it’s a rush!”

Haley says that her Neighbours debut is a show you won’t want to miss. “You can expect good music and a good show,” she promised. “This being my first performance in Seattle, I’m very excited and feel privileged to be able to perform for you.”

Local act The Moondoggies, recently featured on the MTV series $5 Cover Seattle, is enlisting the assistance of a national publicity firm to promote their upcoming album, Tidelands (October 12). The indie quartet – Kevin Murphy, Carl Dahlen, Caleb Quick, and Robert Terreberry – drew a capacity crowd last year to an in-store performance at Easy Street Records and are poised to do the same when they appear at Bumbershoot next month. Figarova is a jazz pianist and composer who comes with high expectations. “Free” is a big draw in these uncertain financial times – add in The Alley’s free parking, great service, and reasonable prices, and it’s a “don’t miss” night for Emerald City music fans. (Reservations are required – details below.)

Shemekia Copeland, powerhouse blues vocalist, will rock the club with an August 19-22 stay. The Stanley Jordon Trio arrives for a September 2-5 stay, and Dr. John and the Lower 911 bring a taste of New Orleans jazz – billed as “funky swamp rock” – to the Emerald City during his September 7-12 visit. Another free event – the September 13 exchange visit of the 2010 Vocal Queen from Kobe, Japan – is a “must” for budget-minded jazz fans. This annual event spotlighting jazz artists from the Sister Cities of Seattle and Kobe showcases Kobe’s jazz winner.

This scribe was honored to be a judge in the Seattle competition early last spring. Two Seattle winners – one in the student division and one in the professional/adult group – will visit Kobe for a jazz festival as a result of the exchange.

Tower Of Power brings a different feel to The Alley during a September 23-26 visit, and supper club superstar Nancy Wilson brings her sophisticated jazz and Broadway classics for a September 30-October 3 outing. The Jazz Crusaders with Joe Sample will turn the club into a totally different experience during his October 7-10 visit.

Last week’s return of John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey brought back a lot of happy memories for the talented duo, as well as their many Seattle fans.

“I played The Alley 18 years ago,” he told the near-capacity Sunday-night crowd.

“We had more people on stage than in the audience.” Over the years, Pizzarelli has become more and more popular – as a single jazz guitarist and singer and as a duo with his wife, Broadway’s Jessica Molaskey.

“We met during the short Broadway run of Dream – a tribute to the music of Johnny Mercer.” It was quips at first sight as the “Broadway Baby” and “The Jazz Guy” clicked, dated, and got married. For this Seattle visit, their 12-year-old daughter joined them. “We had a great day – we love Seattle.” The pair decided to stay in Seattle for their “off day” this week – Monday – before flying to Los Angeles to continue their West Coast tour with a Tuesday opening. They took in a ball game (“and got some sun,” he enthused), the usual sightseeing excursions, and “some great meals.”

The two appear at various cabarets and jazz clubs in New York City, together or alone. “We do a six-week stay at the Café

Touring is great, but New York is always best.”

As in past Seattle visits, the duo’s format featured lengthy duets, often combining unlikely songs, solo selections for each, plus a major solo section for Pizzarelli and his musicians, including his brother, Martin, on bass. Their father – the legendary Bucky Pizzarelli – sometimes tours with John “but not this time.”

Jazz Alley billed the duo as “a pop-jazz Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers,” a strange choice of references, but there is no doubt that John and Jessica exemplify the oft quoted praise of Hollywood’s most popular dancing couple – “He gave her class, and she gave him sex appeal.” Their opening number set the stage for their personas.

He sang “The Best Things Happen When You’re Dancing” and she countered with the lesser-known “Nice Girls Don’t Stay For Breakfast.” A delightful pairing – singers and songs – with wisps of other “dancing” melodies as counterpoint, the number was a knockout way to start the evening.

Their second number, with him vocally asking “Will You Still Be Mine?” and her quiet, meditative “Small World” (from Broadway’s Gypsy) reversed the balance of the opening choice. The third pairing – “a meditation on codependency,” as John quipped – found “I Want To Be Happy” from Jessica and “Sometimes I Love You, Sometimes I Hate You” from John to be a perfect fit.

The duets continued, each one building delightfully on the previous choices. A wistful Molaskey finally left the stage for a lengthy break as Pizzarelli performed highlights from his new CD, a salute to Duke Ellington called Rockin’ In Rhythm. Ellington classics – like “Satin Doll,” “In A Mellow Tone,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” – were highlights of the mini-set.

After another brief pairing, Pizzarelli took stage center with “I Like Jersey Best,” first introduced on a 1983 album, I’m Hip – But Don’t Tell My Father. Various impersonations – Paul Simon! Bob Dylan! The Bee Gees! The Beach Boys! Johnny Cash! – carried the lengthy novelty number for many in the cheering crowd.

A final teaming found the pair saluting Les Paul and Mary Ford with a stunning “All The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise.” A happy Sunday-night crowd gathered to buy CDs, chat with both artists (and their talented side men), gather autographs and wind up the week. “A good time was had by all” seemed a perfect way to sum up the evening. Jazz Alley is usually a yearly stop for the popular pair. Watch for a 2011 visit about this time next year.

Armstrong: In 1999, I came out here from the Papermill Playhouse [in New Jersey] to direct The Secret Garden. It was just as the 5th Avenue Theatre started to search for an artistic director, and so I threw my hat into the ring. The show was a success and everything came together, all very fortuitous. It was my first visit to Seattle and I ended up with the job.

Andrews-Katz: What are the job requirements for being an artistic director?

Armstrong: I would say it’s a job where you need to know a little about a lot of things. You don’t have to be an expert in any, but have a wide range of knowledge.

It’s a producing job at its heart, but in the big picture, in terms of a theatrical season, it’s serving an audience. You also must have artistic vision to achieve quality on the stage, and to add innovation. You even have to be part gambler and take risks, because if you do everything safe you won’t be interesting, and then no one comes. There has to be something new, otherwise it’s just a museum, and live theater can’t exist like that.

Andrews-Katz: How is a theater season

planned and scheduled at the 5th Avenue?

Armstrong: We work two or three years out in scheduling a season. For flexibility, we allow certain holes so shows that come along can be scheduled. We usually have five produced musicals and two touring productions. This year we have three, one being co-produced with another company.

For Memphis, it took six months of advance planning before it was on our stage. That’s typical for new/premier shows.

Andrews-Katz: Does the 5th Avenue Theatre hold open auditions when casting for local productions?

Armstrong: We do. We see about 400 people every year and start in the spring for casting the following season. Sometimes we cast the entire year’s productions. One of the amazing things about Seattle is the talent pool. After the auditions, we do a whole series of callbacks over the summer. We employ the largest percentage of the theatrical talent in the state – about 800 people, including singers, dancers, stagehands, electricians, etc. … We’ve made it part of our mission to be committed to the Seattle talent pool and to celebrate them.

Andrews-Katz: When a new musical is written, how does it come to the 5th Avenue before going to Broadway?

Armstrong: It depends. It’s largely built on relationships that I’ve had with past [New York] producers, writers, directors, etc. … When Hairspray came about, I had worked with the producers in NYC. When I first came out to Seattle, I was telling people that I was here, and that Seattle was a great theater town to form a partnership. The producers of Hairspray took me up on it. The lead producer, Margot Lion, told people that she would only work on a new Broadway show if it started in Seattle. That helped put us on the map and opened doors. At first it was only pre-Broadway shows, and now we’ve gotten involved in the forming of the shows.

Andrews-Katz: Pre-Broadway musicals at the 5th Avenue have included Jekyll & Hyde, Hairspray, Princesses, Lone Star Love, Memphis, Shrek, and Catch Me if you Can, among others. Which new musical was your most enjoyable experience and why?

Armstrong: Probably Hairspray, because it was my first here and it was just a thrilling, one-of-a-kind experience. That show came out of the box nearly perfect, which never happens. It’s hard to remember that at that time it was a show written by mostly unknowns. The fact that it was based on John Waters’ film was bound to be a negative. But from the very first performance (and for the next six years), audiences screamed after every number. It was clear it was going to be a major hit. That holds a certain thrill.

Memphis would be the other real thrill. We gave that show a chance after others had already written it off, and now it’s a huge hit on Broadway. The 5th Avenue was a significant element in making that happen.

Andrews-Katz: The 2010/2011 season includes the new musical A Christmas Story. How do you think the traditional classic will translate on stage?

Armstrong: I think it’s really going to be fantastic. It was workshopped and produced originally last year at the Kansas City Repertory Theater. There is a new team now that’s writing it. Joseph Robinette wrote the libretto. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote the music and lyrics. They are the new Flaherty/Ahrens, so to speak.

Andrews-Katz: In the Heights is a Hispanic rap musical. How do you think Seattle audiences will react?

Armstrong: I think they will go crazy for it. There’s a young, hip vibe to it, and I think that it is very much in keeping with Seattle’s very contemporary views. On one hand, the musical is modern and has music of the moment, but it’s rooted in classical musical theater traditions. success. Hairspray and Sweeny Todd were big ones. Memphis and Candide would have to be on the list also. My least favorites?

There were a couple of touring companies (no names mentioned, though) that were lacking in quality and weren’t up to our own standards of how we like to perform.

I have to say, Lone Star Love was a huge disappointment, but I’m proud of doing it; it had huge potential. A new musical is like launching the space shuttle; many people need to work on it and it can either fizzle or explode!

The 5th Avenue Theatre opened in 1926 with its interior designed after three of Imperial China’s architectural designs. The 2010-2011 season consists of seven musicals, including three Broadway touring companies and two special Northwest premiers.
