We all love searching for, and finding, the unique and different while exploring shops and boutiques. The Grand Strand has homegrown, locally-constructed items and family owned shops that you’ll love.

The idea for the hammock came from native South Carolinian Joshua John Ward, a riverboat captain who found the lumpy, grassfilled mattresses on his boat too hot for the sultry coastal summers, so he designed a hammock so strong and comfortable that its handmade design has endured for more than a century. Stop by the Original Hammock Shop in Hammock Shops Village and watch local craftsman make hammocks, expertly weaving rope to make one of the most comfortable and durable hammocks sold. View Inn in Pawleys Island and also own a local take-out restaurant. In 2006, they began selling Sassy’s recipe for a delicious version of classic southern pimento cheese called Palmetto Cheese. Today this popular spread is available in 49 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico, at 9,200 locations.

Craft beer lovers will enjoy trying Myrtle Beach’s delicious brews at New South Brewing. Visit their tap room for special brews unavailable elsewhere.

South of the Grand Strand, the stately City of Georgetown has a rich history and a thriving downtown area. Front Street, located along the Sampit River, is charming and fun and the shops are locally owned and operated.

Everyone knows the sun and sand are THE attraction for visitors to the Grand Strand. Going to the beach is free, but you’ll need a few things before you hit the surf. A stop at a beach store is the perfect way to gather supplies and have a little fun in the process. From beach chairs to sand toys to sunscreen and tee shirts, you’ll find everything you need for a day in the sun at one of our area beach stores.
