Welcome to the 16th annual Pawleys Island Wine and Food Gala.

Thanks to the hard work of a lot of committee members and volunteers, you have the opportunity to taste over 100 wonderful wines and cordials, while enjoying the beauty of the Reserve Golf Club and the bounty of delectable hors d’oeuvres presented by our gracious and talented food vendors.

All the proceeds from this magical evening will benefit the Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art. So, please take a minute to check out the fabulous vacations, jewelry, art and other items being offered in the Silent Auction.

And, remember that none of this would be possible without the generous support of the wine distributors and vintners you see here tonight. The Collector’s Circle wine pouring will be going on simultaneously with the Wine Gala. Another bright and racy vintage from the Central Coast, with flavors of green apple, lime, grapefruit, lemon zest, notes of minerality and citrus aromatics. Silky and light, balanced with nice crisp acidity. My favorite wine with oysters!

Made in the traditional style of Rias Baixas Albarino, this is pure and vibrant, with a slight salty characteristic. Mandarin orange and tangerine peel begin in the aromatics and run clear through to the finish. The round mouthfeel is beautifully balanced by a somewhat crisp structure. The refreshing quality of this wine makes it an excellent aperitif.

This balanced Chardonnay from the Paragon Vineyard in Edna Valley in the Central Coast is full-bodied yet crisp and clean. This perfectly balanced Chardonnay is loaded with citrusy tropical flavors and just the right touth of sweet oak.

This Paso Robles Cabernet is produced from Clones 4, 6, 8 and 337 and is loaded with blackberry jam, cherry, black currant, exotic spices and cola, with notes of caramelized oak.

These Gruner grapes are grown in the famed Niven Family Paragon Vineyard and express rich and round flavors with great acid structure. The wine is steely and has pronounced minerality. It has a bit of an earthy characteristic, a strong white pepper note and flavors of ripe melon and fruit cocktail

This is a bright and nicely balanced Pinot Noir from Firepeak Vineyard in Edna Valley. It is produced from Swan and Dijon Clones. It is full bodied and supple with silky tannins. Aromas of cola, anise, bright cherry, with hints of spice and rose petal followed by dark fruit flavors and a rich mocha undertone.

The 2013 Estate Pinot Noir is an exceptional wine, showcasing the union of six individual clones; 4, 115, 667, 828, 943 and 777. Each makes a particular contribution to the final blend; 4 and 115 offer Burgundian fruit freshness; 667 brings solid backbone structure and color intensity, 828 and 943 flesh out the palate with silky tannins and earthy aromas, while 777 adds dark berry aromas and a brambly component A small production wine from the sustainably farmed historic Edna Valley estate that pays tribute to its "Architects" ‌ the Winemaker and Vineyard Manager. Fruit for this wine was grown in our low yielding Firepeak hillside blocks and produced from Swan and Dijon Clones 945 and 667. The aromas in this wine are complex and layered; mocha, cinnamon, dark red fruit, hazelnut, red licorice, earth and mushroom. This follows onto the palate, along with the brighter red fruit flavors and a note of candied red apple. The tannins are silky, and the medium-full body nicely compliments the supple mouthfeel.

100% Chenin Blanc from low yielding 32-42 year old bush vines on rolling hills in Paarl and Stellenbosch. A small percentage of the grapes were fermented in French Oak barrels to generate an added dimension of richness. The complex nose shows upfront tropical fruit, ripe pineapple, melon, peaches and honey flavors, lifted by a citrus element.

This un-oaked chardonnay has distinct pear, peach and stone fruit complexity with a hint of lemony citrus.

On the palate, the wine is crisp and dry with medium high acidity and tastes of stone fruits, lavender, honey, pear white flowers and minerals.

The hand-harvested grapes for this Pinot Noir were carefully selected for complexity and elegance. The judicious blending of several different clones produced a wine with aromas and flavors of bright red fruit and naturally bright acidity.

Bright plum red. Crushed berries and plums, Hint of earth and porcini mushrooms. A medium bodied red with low tannins but bright acidity, giving it a wonderful balance.

100% Chardonnay. This wine was carefully handcrafted by eco-friendly winemaker Jean-Michel Drouin and his son Xavier. It is made from up to 80 year old vines growing in the heart of the village of Solutre and Pouilly.

Only 900 cases produced. The wine is round, very mineral, with aromas of white flowers, ripe white fruits, and exotic notes of mango. On the palate it is smooth and creamy with a hint of smoke and persistent notes of fruits.

100% Tempranillo. This wine has a cherry color with a violet hue. It is very clean and bright, with intense cherry and forest fruit aromas. Very good body, smooth, with a good structure and a very long finish.

The Souret Family has been running the vineyards for over 3 generations.

The cuvee Bastien, named after the winemaker, Frederic’s son, is made from a single vineyard of 45 year old vines. Rich, fruity and elegant with a ripe and open knit, with lots of black cherry and spice, graphite and sweet earth notes.

45% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels for 10-14 months. The Chateau is located north of Saint-Emilion on the hillside of the Isle Valley where wines have been cultivated since the 15th century. Ruby robed, this wine expresses elegant aromas of vanilla and spices; after aerating a few moments, the nose develops notes of cooked fruits creating a great complexity. A Smooth and ample attach in the mouth, with a very good length on top of an elegantly well-incorporated woodiness and structure.
