Get Sturdy
Get Sturdy! Another thing that has been trending in the UK for a while now is a NYC originated dance and it’s called sturdy. It has been blowing all over Instagram and TikTok, a particular subsection of these videos involves hopping from foot to foot, dropping spins and testing the limits of their knees, all to the bassy beats of drill and upbeat music. Essentially getting sturdy is an evolution of the woo walk which was popularised by the New York rapper Pop Smoke (R.I.P). If you’ve seen the Dior song you will know the dance includes one hand outstretched while the other hand is on the front of your belt and you’re basically stepping in rhythm with the song. When done properly the dancer is looking fairly sturdy. The dancer’s torso remains rigidly and upright while adding in a series of spins, drops and hops plus other moves. Some of the steps are similar to voguing of the 1980s.
