THE ANNUAL PARISH MEETING OF THE CATHEDRAL OF ST. PHILIP IS SET FOR THIS SUNDAY The Annual Parish Meeting of the Cathedral of St. Philip is still set for this Sunday, December 6, at 10 a.m.,
to which confirmed communicants, in good standing, are invited to attend. We will meet on the Labyrinth. As with all of our outdoor in-person events, registration is required and everyone must wear a mask. Attendees
may also be directed to the Cloister Garden or other areas of the Cathedral campus, where they will be able to
fully participate in the meeting. Current protocols indicate that only 50 people may gather together in any one space at a time. To register, visit cathedralATL.org beginning Wednesday at 10 a.m.
This has certainly been a different year for our wonderful parish community. Usually, we gather in a grand
community at the parish meeting. This year’s meeting, however, will be quite short, and limited to confirmed communicants in good standing, because our attendance protocols are still in place. Still, we gather to celebrate the Cathedral Parish, even in the midst of this difficult and challenging year.
As in recent years, we will meet during the regular education hour. In addition to voting for new chapter members, we will hear very brief reports from Dean Sam Candler and Treasurer Haven Long.

Cathedral STAFF WELCOME (BACK), SARA CRAIG-GOODELL! Sara Craig-Goodell has recently rejoined the Cathedral staff as Program Coordinator for Communications and Outreach. You likely remember Sara, who left the Cathedral briefly this year after managing and supporting the Cathedral Farmers Market for the past seven seasons. Sara’s time at the market led to more community partnerships and increased communications with vendors, shoppers, and the public. Even more than that, her heart and care for this community are evident in all that she does. Sara’s work as program coordinator will focus on the weekly publication of the Cathedral Times and its email counterpart, the eTimes, as well as engaging Cathedral volunteers and partner organizations. We are grateful for Sara’s new work with us!

ANGELICA GODOY DE BAÑOS
MERRITT PORTER DYKE
Angelica has been active at the Cathedral for 18 years. She and her family found a second home at the Cathedral after being welcomed by Padre Iasias Rodriguez in 2002. As proud Mexican-Americans, Angelica and her family enjoy serving the Hispanic congregation and sharing their traditions with this community. Her current parish activities include being a leader for Informed Communion classes, a lector, and community building with the Hispanic congregation. Angelica is a homemaker and earned her degree in accounting. She enjoys teaching, gardening, spending time with her daughters, learning about other cultures and their traditions, and studying church history. Angelica and her husband, Alfredo, have three children: Jacqueline, Nicole and Edith.
Merritt has been active at the Cathedral for 24 years and is currently involved with the Usher Guild and the Dean’s Men’s Bible Study. He is the Chairman of Dyke Industries, Inc. His involvement in the community includes the High Museum, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and the National Gallery of Art in D.C., and he enjoys golf, tennis, hunting and fishing. Merritt and his wife, Anne, have three children: Barrett Bynum, Brooks Bynum, and Olivia Bynum.
WARD S. BONDURANT Ward has been active at the Cathedral for 30 years. His current parish involvement includes the Farmers Market and he has also taught adult Sunday School, served on the Chapter and Executive Committee, and was a past Stewardship Co-Chair, Senior and Junior Warden. Professionally, Ward is an attorney. He has served on several boards, including Emmaus House and Westminster Schools Alumni Council. He enjoys farming and gardening. Ward and his wife, Mary, have two adult children: Sam and Jack.
MARY CAROLINE DAVIES CRAVENS Mary Caroline has been active at the Cathedral for 14 years. She currently serves with the Altar Guild and the Ricks-Wheeler Fund Committee, and participates in the Dean’s Women’s Bible Study and Community of Hope. After working as a history professor, and then a judicial law clerk, Mary Caroline has focused on being a wife and mother. Beyond her family and the parish, she is involved with the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta and the Parents Association for the Westminster Schools, and serves on the board of Respite Care Atlanta. She enjoys teaching, writing and running. Mary Caroline and her husband, Will Sugden, have two children: Alex and Sam.
BILL MONROE Bill has been active at the Cathedral for 9 years, and currently serves on the Cathedral Preschool Board. He works in Investment Banking with SunTrust/ Truist, and serves the community with the United Way Tocqueville Society and is a SunTrust Momentum OnUp Volunteer. Bill enjoys golf, tennis, and fly fishing. Bill and his wife, Carter, have two children: Lawson and William.
KATE STOTTS Kate has been active at the Cathedral all of her life and currently serves as a lector and intercessor. She’s also served with the Green Aprons, Week of Wonder, Daughters of the King, and the St. Cecilia Choir. Kate works as an interior decorator, assisting residential clients through her business Kate Long Interiors. In the community she is involved at Holy Innocents Episcopal School and Heards Ferry Elementary. Kate enjoys antiques, running and gardening. Kate and her husband, Eric, have two children: Thomas and Katherine.

OLD FASHIONED SUNDAY SCHOOL Matthew’s Gospel has Jesus say, “Do not think that I propose to set Torah aside. On the contrary, my whole intent is to implement the Torah, to put it into practice.” (Matthew 5:17) When OFSS resumes on December 13, Canon George Maxwell will talk about what Jesus meant by this comment.
EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY Education for Ministry (EfM) is a program of the School of Theology of the University of the South. Participants commit one year at a time to meet weekly in seminars led by mentors trained in studying the Bible, church history, and theology, while also developing a wonderful community of members. There is a weekly lesson and study guide, but no tests or papers to prepare. A few spaces are available for an EfM class that begins January 5. The class meets on Tuesdays from 7-9:30 p.m., initially meeting by Zoom and transitioning to the Lanier House once it is safe to do so. Cathedral BOOK STORE
SPIRITUALITY ADVENT SPIRITUALITY OFFERING We invite you to join us for an introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop offered by Contemplative Outreach of Atlanta. As many of you know, Centering Prayer is a simple method prayer rooted in ancient Christian tradition. Many of us have found the practice to be transformative, deepening our understanding of scripture and widening our perspective on our relationships with God and others. The gathering will be by Zoom at 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 5. It is being sponsored by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and is free of charge. You can register at www. stlukesatlanta.org/blog/centering-prayer/. The workshop will be based on the book Open Mind, Open Heart by Thomas Keating. You may purchase the book through the Cathedral Book Store. We will not be offering an Advent Quiet Day at the Cathedral this year because of the restrictions that have been placed on in person gatherings and our perceptions of the limits of formatting contemplative offerings online. We do hope that what you learn in the workshop will prove helpful to your spiritual life and what we are able to do with in person quiet days in the future. OUTREACH HABITAT CHRISTMAS BASKETS We will be doing Habitat Christmas baskets again and this year will be more important than ever for our homeowners. The processes will look a little different in order that we can do this safely for all. Most importantly, we are still going to need volunteers to make items to fill our baskets and be part of delivery. Mark your calendars for Habitat for Humanity basket contributions on December 11 and delivery on December 12. We are going to need baked goods, cookies, nuts, and fruit.
