OLD FASHIONED SUNDAY SCHOOL Child Hall Experiencing the Presence of God This term, we are continuing our study of the Bible and Christian contemplative spirituality. We will also explore a number of related themes that emerge from what is sometimes called the wisdom tradition.

SPIRITUALITY QUIET DAY: "LENT, THE DISRUPTIVE SEASON" Give yourself the gift of quiet and prayer as you enter into Lent.

This quiet day will be led by CeCe Balboni, MAT, EDS, and executive director of Emmanuel Center for Pastoral Counseling at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. CeCe is an Episcopal laywoman, psychotherapist, and spiritual director.

The quiet day will take place in the Lanier House on the Cathedral campus, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, February 29.

MUSIC PERIMETER FLUTES THIS SUNDAY This Sunday, February 23 at 3:15 p.m., we welcome flute quartet Perimeter Flutes as our recitalists. Local to Atlanta and resident at Perimeter College of Georgia State University, they have performed many times on the Cathedral’s Sunday Recital Series.

Their program will include works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Mozart, among others. We encourage everyone to attend and hear this unique quartet.

Following dinner on Wednesday nights during the season of Lent, adults will gather for a discussion about the language of faith.

It is often said that learning to be a Christian is like learning a language. We use words to make sense of and tell others about our experiences of the presence of God. But, it is becoming harder and harder to maintain our fluency. Secular culture doesn’t really support Christian speech or Christian ways of thinking about the world. So, as we prepare for the mystery of Easter, we have asked several Christian speakers to take a word or a phrase common to the Christian language, tell us about how they understand it, and give us an example (a witness) of how their understanding makes a difference in their lives. We look forward to seeing you there.

In our children's program for Lent, our children will see that the more we learn about Jesus, the more we discover who we are, too. Sometimes there is a gap between who we think we are and how God sees us.

Let’s help our children jump into this season and get to know God, who created all things, redeems all things, including us.

Using the StoryMakers curriculum, we will open our imaginations and place ourselves in the story, allowing our minds to move beyond what we see in front of us. Sounds a lot like faith, doesn’t it? Our goal for this series is to allow the imaginations of children to become the unique entry point into the season of Lent.

OUTREACH HELP STOCK BCM’S CLIENT CHOICE FOOD PANTRY February is food drive month at the Cathedral in support of Buckhead Christian Ministry’s “client choice” pantry. St. Anne’s Guild helps coordinate this drive and will again be stationed in the Atrium and in the halls every Sunday in February between 9:45 a.m and 11:15 a.m. to receive your monetary donations of $20 or more. Donations made by check should be payable to “Cathedral of St. Philip” with “BCM Food Drive” on the memo line. Donations can also be made specifically to the BCM Food Drive through the Cathedral website.

Your support in the past two years has been instrumental in launching the client choice food pantry. BCM has now completed the build-out of its concept, including the purchase

of computer software and the hiring of a pantry manager to implement the program. Thanks to your gifts in 2019, the choice of fresh fruits and vegetables will now be available to BCM clients. As it continues to roll out this new process, BCM has a huge need for new food pantry volunteers! If you are interested in learning more about the food pantry volunteer role, please email volunteers@bcmatlanta.org.

GO! A CELEBRATION OF GLOBAL MISSION If the old Diocesan Ministry Fair and the annual Global Mission Conference had a baby, it would be the Go Summit: Local and Global Mission in the Diocese of Atlanta.

This year, Global Missions’ annual Go! Summit will explore faithfully responding to climate change on local and global levels as 21st century discipleship. The one-day event, on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at All Saints’ in Atlanta, will feature the Rev. Kate McGregor Mosley, Executive Director of Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, which equips faith communities to care for creation. The day will also include panel discussions and breakout sessions. The cost is $20 and includes lunch.

HABITAT KICKOFF DINNER AND PROJECT Join our Habitat kickoff dinner Sunday, March 15 to meet our build partners and our new homeowner. Our next Habitat home will be built on Saturdays from March 21 through May 16 (skipping Easter weekend). We welcome past builders and new builders. If you have never built, come be part of this exciting ministry. No skills required, just your enthusiasm. We will give you the tools and training you need. WOMEN’S LENTEN RETREAT: ALTARS AND ALTERED Cathedral women, along with women friends or relatives, are invited to attend our annual Lenten Retreat, March 13-15 at St. Mary’s Sewanee in Tennessee. As we weather transformations in our lives, it is important to remember and revisit our sacred core with intention.

The retreat will be led by Canon Lauren Holder. Costs for the weekend, which cover lodging and meals, are $285 (private room) or $225 per person (shared/double room). ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASS Adult Confirmation class will be held in Room 120 during the 10:10 a.m. Sunday School hour, March 1-29. These classes are open to all, regardless of plans to be confirmed.

Lent is a season of repentance and renewal, when we return to God and the fundamentals of our faith. Join us as we use Lenten practices and the Baptismal Covenant as a framework for exploring our faith in Adult Confirmation. This 5-week class is open to all adults, whether you are seeking confirmation or not!

RACE and Healing POTLUCK DINNER AND DISCUSSION Bring a dish for potluck sharing Sunday, February 23, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Lanier House. We will gather for dinner and a facilitated discussion of two engaging articles that further our conversations about race and healing. Both articles feature how members of two churches (one in Baltimore, the other in Newnan, Georgia) have confronted and responded in real time to edgy issues about the legacy of slavery when clergy and parishioners were suddenly confronted with startling discoveries. The articles can be read in advance through the links at cathedralATL.org/raceandhealing.
