FAURÉ REQUIEM ON ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY All are invited to attend our annual Choral Eucharist on All Saints’ Sunday, November 4 at 4 p.m. This year we will observe this holy occasion with the ancient and image-rich texts of the Requiem as set to music by Gabriel Fauré. His is one of the most beloved and frequently sung works in the sacred repertoire, yet it is rarely experienced in the context for which it was written: a fully choral service of Communion in celebration of the life of someone who has passed into life eternal. The orchestra, underwritten by our Friends of Cathedral Music, will use Fauré’s original, most intimate orchestration for strings, harp, French horns, and timpani. This is music of transcendent beauty, which generations of Christians have found to offer a profound glimpse of the hope, peace, and surpassing joy of heaven.

At this service we will remember by name all those friends and members of the Cathedral whose names have appeared in our prayers for the departed during the past year. Whether or not you have recently lost a loved one, it will be a meaningful opportunity to give thanks for the communion of saints who have gone before, and to contemplate the hope and promise of eternal life.

MEZZO SOPRANO EUNJOO LEE-HULS TO PERFORM This Sunday, October 28 at 3:15 p.m., the Cathedral welcomes Korean mezzo soprano Eunjoo Lee-Huls as our Sunday afternoon recitalist. Lee-Huls has performed all over North America (including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York), Europe and Asia, and has received critical accolades on all three continents. A graduate of Chugae Art University (Korea) and Licinio Reficeo Conservatory Frosinone (Italy), Lee-Huls’s program will include works by Handel, Dvořák, Bizet, Menotti, and others. We encourage everyone to come and hear this rising star of the operatic and concert stage.

In his homecoming sermon this year, Dean Sam Candler provided a powerful framework for thinking about what we have to offer to God, each other, and ourselves. As he has said many times over, we all have something to offer to God—our joy, our sadness, our voices, our quiet. And he went on to say, “Love is our offering. Love is what we give to. Love is where we make our offerings.” This community exists because of generations of parishioners that have loved, and offered, and given to the church.

Walking is a great metaphor for our life at the Cathedral this year. We walk to receive communion together, many of us walk the labyrinth as a form of meditation, some of us even walk the Peachtree Road Race together.

Of course, our walks together are more about the journey than the destination. We transform each other and the church by offering our steps, our paces, our gifts. We see things with

ANNUAL CHILDREN’S BOOK DRIVE

All goblins, princesses, witches, and superheroes are invited to our Halloween costume blessing, Sunday, October 28. Dinner is served at 5 p.m., followed by our spooky procession around the campus, complete with a thrilling visit from the Phantom of the Opera and s’mores at our final destination. The event will wrap up by 7 p.m.

For the fourth year, the Cathedral Book Store is collecting new books for the children at the Homeless Requiem, the children at the Arrendale Prison Children’s Center, the young people at Covenant House, and the children at Wilderness Works, this year’s Antiques Show beneficiary. Books are available to purchase at the Cathedral Book Store during regular business hours or in the Atrium from 9 -11 a.m. each Sunday in October. Our goal is to collect 250 books to be distributed to children attending the Homeless Requiem in November and to the other groups in December. Please purchase a book and help each of these beautiful children receive a wonderful gift this year!

The 2019 Cathedral Antiques Show is pleased to present this year’s Honorary Designers, Cathedral members Margaret and Clary Bosbyshell.

Margaret and her husband, Ed, have been members of the Cathedral since 1991. Margaret has been active in several Cathedral activities over many years, including facilitating the labyrinth since 1998, working with the Prayer and Spiritual Nurture committee and Taizé prayer service, and teaching Sunday School. Margaret graduated from UGA and studied design in London and at the Art Institute of Atlanta. In 1982 she started her interior design business, Margaux Interiors Limited, offering a full-service design team with extensive experience in residential and light commercial design projects. Three of the houses she has designed have been featured on Cathedral Antiques Show Tour of Homes.

Clary Bosbyshell, Margaret’s daughter, has been a Cathedral member since 3rd grade, being active in Sunday School and the Cathedral choirs. She has hosted the show’s Drinks and Antiques party, served on design panels, and opened her home for the First Place Passion Home Tour. She graduated from UGA, studied design in Cortona, Italy, and spent a few years further honing her eye for smart and stylish design in the world of fashion merchandising. She joined Margaux in 2009 and has been creating compelling interiors ever since.

ELDER Ministries

Join us at the Cathedral Thursday, November 15 for the AARP's Smart Driver course. The course is a six-hour refresher aimed at motorists 50 years old and older. Some of the objectives of the class include understanding the effects of aging on driving; learning driving strategies that take into account the changes we experience as we age; and a number of other topics designed to make you a safer driver. At the completion of the class, you may be eligible to receive a discount on your automobile insurance policy.

Class begins at 9 a.m. and will be completed by 4 p.m. There will be an hour break for lunch. Feel free to bring a lunch.

The cost for AARP members is $15 and $20 for non-members, paid at the door by cash or check. You must bring your AARP card to receive the discount.

Congregational LIFE DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS ART PROJECT The whole Cathedral community is invited to participate in the making of a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) art installation of remembrance. The next two Sundays and throughout the week, you’ll find a table in the Atrium with bright strips of fabric and markers. Please write the name of a loved one who has died—or several loved ones—on a strip of fabric. We will gather all the brightly colored remembrances and hang them up on the railing of the Atrium for all to see. It will be a celebration of color and light and life and love. Exploring Creative and Relevant Ways of Practicing Justice, Healing, and Love: A Day with the Rev. Becca Stevens SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2018 9:30 A.M. – 3 P.M.

Becca Stevens’ life and work illustrate the healing power of love and of story. Join us for this incredible opportunity!

We will spend the day in intentional acts that promote the healing and justice corollaries of love. This includes storytelling, creating healing oils and participating in a justice tea ceremony. The hope for the day is that all the participants receive practical tools to carry back to their own communities and feel inspired to go out to love the world.

This day-long conference also includes lectures, discussion, question & answer, and book signing.
