Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.” And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

We pray for all people who do not have adequate shelter in which to live and raise their families, and for those who have no shelter at all. God of mercy and justice, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are sick because they do not have access to safe, sanitary, and affordable housing. God of mercy and justice, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those who have been incarcerated and, upon release, find many housing options and communities closed to them. God of mercy and justice, Hear our prayer.

We pray that those who live in safe, secure, and comfortable shelter will see their homes with humble gratitude and be inspired to improve access for all people. God of mercy and justice, Hear our prayer.

We pray for those agencies, ministries, and individuals who are working to relieve the conditions of poverty and homelessness in this city. God of mercy and justice, Hear our prayer.

The Celebrant continues

On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Now gathered at your table, O God of all creation, we offer to you our sacrifice of praise, this memorial of our redemption, as we recall his death, proclaim his resurrection, and await his coming in glory. Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the world you have made.

In your mercy, remember your children departed this life but alive to you in your Son Jesus Christ. Remember... [here the names of the dead are read prayerfully, with the tolling of the bells and the presentation of crosses].

In the fullness of time bring us, with these your servants and with all your saints, from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from the foundation of the world. The Communion of the People

The floor stations have non-alcoholic grape juice.

All are welcome to receive the consecrated bread and wine of the Eucharist. You may receive at the altar or at floor-level stations. Stand or kneel and receive the bread (a wafer) in the palm of your hand.

Receive the wine either by drinking from the cup (guiding it to your lips) or by touching the wafer lightly to the wine. If you desire to receive a blessing, cross your arms across your chest.
