Mental Health Last term we joined many schools and communities around the nation in taking part in a children's Mental Health week! Around many different year groups we did lots of different fun activities to try and help and boost our mental health. We also did a theme every day during the week: Monday: Being Present Tuesday: Connect with others Wednesday: Be active Thursday: Learn a new skill Then finally on Friday we had a home clothes day where each year-group was allocated a colour to wear at least one item of clothing from, so when put together we could make as much of a rainbow that you can in 5 colour! The colours for each year group were as follows: J5: Purple J4: Blue J3: Red J2: Yellow J1: Green

In our school from J3 all the way up to upper sixth has a mental health committee where they met for croissants and talk about how as a whole school 3– 18 where they can raise awareness of mental health and do fundraisers just like the mental health week so we all know how to stay mentally healthy!

Social Media and Gadgets have become a huge part to today’s society, mostly to our younger generation that is still growing, it’s a wonderful thing and can be used for many reasons: Social sites, messaging apps, gaming sites and chat rooms such as Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and more, can be great fun and a positive experience. But what do you do when things go wrong?

Parents: How do I know my child is not misbehaving online?

Show an interest and keep up to date with what your child is doing online but try to have a balance between respecting their privacy and making sure they don’t feel the need to be secretive.

My child doesn't want me to have accesses to their phone, should I be concerned?

First of all, you shouldn't assume the worst and try to have a calm, collected conversation with them. Your child is just growing up and these are things almost every child will be wanting. If there is nothing to hide, they should be happy to share or even teach you!

Children: How do I react to Cyberbullying if it is happening to me?

Sometimes bullies are encouraged by seeing a reaction, so try and ignore it, but what ever happens, reach out to your parents, favourite teacher, school administrators or counsellor to help you deal with it. Also, if something is sent you don’t like, screen shot this as this could help to explain what is going on. But no matter what happened you shouldn't sink to the bully's level, being mean back against the bully will get you nowhere and definitely don’t believe what the bully said. Don’t let bullies destroy your selfesteem. Cyberbullies actions are often more about their own problems than they are about you. When bullying gets you down, talk about it with someone you trust who can help you out.

Our Sports in the Easter Term This Easter term , all year groups do games in two separate groups, boys and girls and have been for many years. This specific term, the girls have been learning and practising their netball skills. Where as the boys have been experiencing with hockey following the girls last Christmas term. In the second and third week matches against the other schools had started and hopefully the majority was won. Our director of sports is Mr. Savage and Mrs. Brough is the head of girls games, along with many other sporting teachers, all who which do an excellent and beneficial job of making sure all of our games and P.E is as effective as the are

Theatre One of the many great and fun things we did this term was a theatre trip to watch Gangster Granny In the grand Oprah house in York, with the J2’s! There was so much allround shared enjoyment we thought we’d ask them for some personal quotes on how they felt about it:: “It was amazing presented with an emotional performance!”

J1 went to see The Spiderwick Chronicles this week which was a private screening at City Screen. Here’s what they thought: ‘I liked the explosion’ ‘I loved the Sprites’ ‘I felt like VIP having the cinema just to ourselves’

THE TEMPEST (future careers?)

Many of our J5s have succeeded in making the play, the tempest, loud and magical. The tempest full of love, sprits, wine, a long lost son and father with a magical staff was played confidentially and creatively.. The director, Mrs Veasey, make a wonderful script and a well put choreography for the play. Performed in Leeds playhouse courtyard theatre along side two other school performing a verity of plays, the plays was shown to an engaged audience. Many reviews call it ‘fun and intriguing ‘.

The story of Prospero, the lead of the play, and many other character were shown beautifully. Prospero's daughter Miranda fall in love with a long lost son of Alfonso. Drunken butler were hiding and being worshipped by other men who were accompanied by wine.

All along the story of a shipwreck. the cast—Chris Green, Bea Haddow, Sephie Hamilton, Elena Gwilliams, Ella Hayley, Sophie Nixon, Joe Walters, James Calvert, Rory Hagen, Max Lindfield, Stanley Baker, James Charge, Zac Winn, Tristan Mace, Max Lythe, Rohan Korolkiewicz, Olivia Chandler, Izzy Dixon, Izzy Carrington, Alice Aitken, Grace Desport, Phoebe Evans, Lucy Worth, Sophia Holm, Milly Selby-Jerrold, Milly Noble, Bea Adeleke, Nessie Watson, Mimi Britton, Lyra Verity, Ruby Fahey, Lily Brook, Emily Hallam the backstage– Grace Stewart, Helena Burr, Anna Brain, Pietro Loiacono, Harry Naish, Freddy Westmoreland, Cora Simpson Director: Mrs Veasey.

Trousers for girls!

In Easter term girls are allowed to wear trousers and many girls have taken up this opportunity.

This is a big deal because in the late 1980s ,pupils and even teachers were not allowed to wear trousers because that was old fashioned .

But now the teachers have made the fantastic wonderful brilliant decision to let the female pupils wear trousers . This amazing decision means

SCIENCE WEEK!!!!

Between the 11/03/22 to 18/03/22 it was the official British science week , Mrs miller, Ms Green-Harding, Mrs Mc-melon and Mr Hunter helped create a wonderous week for all of us. Mrs miller for instance did an assembly of Mrs mole (the famous science mascot) had been hit by a flying rocket made of fire and vapour ethanol. Along the week posters about their favourite part of science were made into a competition and multiple quizzes were entered and soon to be won.

In many lessons teachers showed experiment such as elephant’s toothpaste and lighting methane bubble in the teachers hands, and in other years pupils did a competition on who could grow the tallest sunflower up until summer where the winner will be announced.

PI DAY Following the actual pie day a week later the more mathematical pi had been announced to a competition to see who could remember the most digits of pi. It was a close call but in our junior end magus Battersby won by 124 digits! Along with Arinia zenz winning by 134!

.Sky wake Invasion On the 25th of March we hosted the York Book awards with these books!! It was a great success and we all had a fabulous time!!! Seven j4s were selected to read those six books in 3 months . In total there were 8 school and 80 pupils in conclusion all read these books ad on the 25 on march And the winner was….. WHEN THE SKY FALLS !!!!

End of Year Celebration Trips!

J1s

The J1’s will be having an exciting visit to The Deep. This is a place where your kids can see a variety of sharks and rays, including White tip reef sharks, Nurse sharks, grey reef sharks, Zebra sharks, and lots more underwater sea creatures including a pair of rescued Loggerhead sea turtles.

J2’s & J3’s J2’s and 3’s will be heading to Light water Valley, to have a fun day of visiting an amusement park in North Yorkshire, The children can take part In lost of fun rides and activities.

J4s The J4’s will be going to Scarborough aqua park to have a day full of fun and lots of water activities, they have a massive inflatable water park that your kids will have access for.

J5’s The J5’s will be heading to a Caythorpe Court Adventure Centre to have two days, overnight, full of adventure actives for the children. Then after that we are taking the kids to Go Ape to have a day full of ziplining, climbing, and lots more in the trees.
