Wow! What a busy week we have had in Year 1!

This week we have introduced our new key text, All The Ways To Be Smart, and we have been learning about all the ways we can be smart which isn't just getting the right answer and ticking boxes. In English we have continued to write our own versions of the Big Dreams, Little People books and we have illustrated our front covers which we can't wait for you to see!

We have demonstrated we are excellent at telling the time to o'clock and to the half hour this week; we are super time-telling ninjas so please challenge us at home with this.

On Tuesday we had a brilliant time in our new, Year 2 classrooms. We made lots of new friends and enjoyed painting and completing some tricky Year 2 challenges. We are so excited for September already.

We have been practising a special song to perform for you at the end of the term and we know that there won't be a dry eye in the house.

On Thursday we had a great morning at Sports Day. There was lots of wonderful resilience, collaboration and team spirit, you should be very proud of yourselves Year 1!

Let's have the best final two weeks together!

As we embark on the closing weeks of our final theme ‘The Travelling School’, Year 2 have had a fantastic time exploring countries linked to the heritages of themselves and their peers, with countries across the year group including Sweden, South Africa, Lebanon, Jamaica and many more.

The children of these heritages led the way for bundles of learning around these countries and led group projects to showcase all they had learnt. The children researched their country using a range of texts and safely using the internet, whilst designating and sharing roles. These topics included the country’s animals, cuisine, landmarks and languages.

A huge thank you to parents who have helped to make this week such a success by sharing information and artefacts from home, it is greatly appreciated.

With moving up afternoon and Sports Day this week, we have been focusing on the positives that changes can bring and dealing with nerves and apprehensions. The children have shown such maturity, and also excitement, as we look forward to the future and opportunities that are to come with moving up to Year 3. We have been looking back at work we completed at the beginning of the year, including wishes for Year 2 which the children wrote with Mrs Clarke in September 2022. It was wonderful to see the children recognising the progress they had made and reflecting upon all of their achievements from this year.

A huge well done to all of the Year 2 children for taking part in Sports Day. It was delightful to watch the encouragement and support amongst the year group, as well as the collaboration and determination with the events.

Only two more weeks to go Year 2, let’s make the most of it and enjoy every minute!
