We have had a wonderful (and hot) week at school in the sunshine! We have started writing our fabulous Big Dreams, Little People books about our hopes, dreams and aspirations for the future. There has been lots of lovely conversations about where we were born, who is in our family and what makes us unique.

We also started another theme text this week ‘All the Ways to be Smart’ and have been celebrating all the wonderful and magical ways that make us all smart! What a talented bunch of 5 and 6 year olds we have.

On Tuesday afternoon we enjoyed the cooling breeze at forest school and had a wonderful time exploring the forest in the shade with our friends. Next Tuesday, we are looking forward to moving up afternoon and finding out all about life in Year 2, we can’t wait.

We have also been working on a top secret surprise for Sunday - keep your eyes peeled.

This week we have continued our journey through China where we have been learning about the Willow Pattern Story, a traditional Chinese tale.

The story is depicted on the famous blue and white plates and tells the plight of Chang and Koong-Se. The children have enjoyed retelling the story and creating their own willow pattern plates. This week we have also been finding out about the Terracotta Soldiers and the story behind them. The children have then been making their own miniature soldiers out of clay!

In Maths we have begun our times tables challenge and the children are continuing to learn multiplication and division facts for this!

At Forest School this week we prepared and cooked vegetable fried rice and used chop sticks to eat it with! We also tasted prawn crackers and thought our little Chinese feast was delicious! Just before we headed back to school, we had a water fight where we had so much fun cooling off!

Next week we will be exploring some other countries of the children’s choice! We also have Move Up Afternoon and Sports Day to look forward to. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
