Whether you are updating an existing kitchen or installing a new one, the hot hues this season are trending towards rich navy blues and cobalts. Matte black sinks and faucets as well as black stainless appliances are a great way to set off the rich colors in your décor. Brushed gold is also making a comeback, which makes pulling colors together in a kitchen or bath more eclectic now than ever.

Well-appointed looks include colorful accent pieces such as a deep blue accent on a white counter or a wavy backsplash to set the tone. We chatted with Richard Valmain, owner of Grand Kitchen and Bath, to get a feel for what goes into the design process.

His motto has always been, “There are no rules. If you like it, we can do it.” He urges clients to own their kitchen design. When a client comments “I don’t know what I like,” his response is, “Everyone knows what they don’t like.”

Cabinets are a large part of kitchen décor, and Valmain offers four different lines that can meet all needs at all price points. From semi-custom to fully custom, every level is represented by quality products. And appliances such as the Sub-Zero Column series can accept custom panels for an integrated look within cabinetry. This refrigerator can even be monitored and controlled remotely with Wi-Fi connectivity. Adding to the clean look are touch open/close models with no hardware or handles.

Smaller details that can personalize your kitchen are endless. Think bi-fold uplift motorized cabinet doors, or a dropped cook surface for ease of use and a cleaner look. Even moving powerstrips under the cabinets simplifi es a look by taking the power source out of the backsplash.

Technology isn’t just making life easier in the kitchen, it’s happening in customized bathrooms as well. Luxurious rain head showers mounted in the ceiling can also provide dimmable light, and if equipped with Bluetooth, can play your favorite tunes. Delta faucets can tell you the exact temperature of your shower before you get in and adjust accordingly. Medicine cabinets can be heated for a no-fog appearance and can even feature a TV in the mirror for those hectic mornings when you need to catch the news.

Integrating the right elements into a kitchen or bath for your lifestyle and taste can be painless when you know what you want. You can fi nd your inspiration from countless sources online and bring it to life in your own home with the help of the right people and/or team.
