Founded in 2005 by the James Barry Robinson Trust, Saint Patrick is an independent Catholic school with an enrollment of approximately 400 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Eight. We are committed to educating the whole child through our distinct model for educational success that allows us to celebrate the gifts of every child. Enrollment is open to children from all faith traditions, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, and spiritual instruction is designed to help the child as well as the family as they continue along their own faith journey. Saint Patrick Catholic School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all of the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. DEAR WOLFHOUND FAMILIES & FRIENDS OF SAINT PATRICK,
From its very beginning, Saint Patrick Catholic School has been shaped by bold visionaries, founders who believed deeply in the power of faith, learning, and community to transform lives. Their courage to dream and their commitment to act created the foundation upon which our school continues to thrive twenty years later.
This past year, we have made significant campus improvements to enhance learning and student life. Over 11 HVAC systems were replaced campus-wide, four new Smartboards were installed in classrooms, and our Dining Hall received all-new tables and chairs. Learning spaces at the ends of each Lower and Middle School hallway were refurbished with updated furniture and lighting.
The Reader’s Theatre space was redesigned to include space for a new math lab where interactive learning and math practice takes place daily. A newsroom was created in the media/library for our WSTP broadcast team, and our soccer fields now have three sets of bleachers for our Wolfhound fans. The outdoor classroom also received several upgrades, including solar panels, electricity, Smartlink wifi, barrels to collect rainwater used to water the lawn, and classroom supplies for teachers. Plans are now underway to install a critter camera on the roof of the outdoor classroom to track wildlife activity, further connecting students with the natural world.
Our commitment extends beyond facilities, it is woven into the very fabric of who we are. We are dedicated to environmental sustainability, ensuring that our students learn to care for creation with reverence and responsibility. We challenge them academically while nurturing the executive functioning and character skills essential for future success, skills like perseverance, empathy, collaboration, and integrity. Of course, at the heart of all we do is faith, guiding our students to grow in purpose and gratitude, ready to lead lives of meaning and impact.
Today, we embrace that same spirit of vision and gratitude as we look to the future through our Enduring Legacy ~ Endless Possibilities Capital Campaign. After months of soliciting donors as part of the campaign’s silent phase, we have raised over $6.7 million dollars.
The goal of this campaign is to raise $10 million to fund key projects that will enhance our students’ educational experience and prepare them for the world ahead. These initiatives include:
• Master Teacher Endowment – ensuring the resources to attract, hire, and retain the most qualified and dedicated teachers and staff.
• Campus Enhancements, including a Theater Renovation and a new Outdoor Learning Park, providing state-of-the-art spaces that promote creativity, collaboration, and well-being.
• Financial Aid, Estate Planning, and Annual Fund Initiatives – sustaining the accessibility and excellence of a Saint Patrick education for generations to come.
As we honor the bold vision of our founders, we remain committed to advancing Saint Patrick Catholic School’s mission of total formation with equal courage and purpose, preparing today’s students not only for the world ahead, but to lead it with integrity, faith, and compassion.

LIFE OF MIND Life of Saint Patrick Catholic School
2024 - 2025 Year in Review
To enhance our literacy programs, Saint Patrick Catholic School implemented UFLI Phonics (K-2) and a Morphology program (3-4), alongside student support by a dedicated Reading Interventionist, resulting in significant reading progress. We also launched a Literacy Night focusing on the science of reading and how to support students in their reading development.
In Middle School, we initiated a structured Executive Functioning curriculum, including a customized middle school homework planner and dedicated support, leading to marked growth in students’ organizational and self-regulation skills.
To highlight innovative STEM and interdisciplinary learning, Saint Patrick Catholic School hosted a highly successful annual STEM Day (K-8) with parent guest speakers, an inaugural Family Math Night, and developed interdisciplinary lessons with math, science, English, and history to foster critical thinking.
We implemented a new three-tiered Learning Resource Center support
structure and established a Middle School Student Success Suite, providing effective accommodations and intensive interventions for diverse learners. We welcomed a new learning resource teacher to work exclusively with Lower School students.
Faculty engaged in extensive professional learning, including The Writing Revolution: Hockman Method Writing, Building Thinking Classrooms coaching, Responsive Classrooms, Glasser Quality Schools, and various Science of Reading trainings, ensuring continuous teacher growth and instructional excellence.
11 Saint Patrick Catholic School students finished as regional finalists in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Education Contest. Four Middle School Wolfhounds went on to win at the State Level in Computer Art, Photography, Art, and Poetry.
Saint Patrick “Destination Imagination” (DI) teams competed in a regional competition. Team “Take Five” competed in the Early Learning Challenge for PreK-Grade 2, walking away with medals and a new learning experience. The second team, “Dream Team,” competed at the Challenge level for Grades 3-12 and placed 4th out of seven teams.
15 Middle School students joined the 2024-2025 Forensics Team. Nine Catholic Schools competed in four meets during the school year. The meet categories were Poetry/Prose, Bible Excerpts, Declamation, and Humor. Our students performed very well and received awards from 1st Place through Honorable Mention at each of the four meets.
February was Black History Month and this year’s theme was “We are Connected. There’s No Place Like Home.” With activities like Black History Month trivia, musical highlights from Mrs. Dionne Smith, and a guest speaker, students at Saint Patrick Catholic School had the opportunity to better understand the immeasurable impact the Black
community has had on our nation. Our Second Grade students even brought historical figures to life in their Black History Wax Museum project.
On Thursday, May 1, the Business Fair Activity Bell held their inaugural event in the Saint Patrick Catholic School Gymnasium. This group of Middle School students spent the third quarter developing business plans, mastering financial literacy, and crafting unique products. The Business Fair was their opportunity to bring their ideas to life and to put their business acumen to the test! By the close of the Business Fair, students had earned over $2,300! All of the funds raised were reinvested in the students’ businesses to support their future entrepreneurial endeavors.
The Friends of the Norfolk Public Library held the 69th Annual Book Review Contest, a Norfolk tradition promoting reading, writing, critical thinking, and library use. Students in Fourth through Eighth Grades were invited to write about a book they enjoyed, to express their opinions about the elements of the book, and to provide a recommendation. Every year, Saint Patrick students have been recognized in this citywide competition, and this year is no exception, with one 1st Place, three 2nd Place, and two 3rd Place winners.
The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades Six through Twelve, and are sponsored by the
American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Students from Saint Patrick Catholic School earned a total of one Oro (Gold), four Plata (Silver) and two Bronce (Bronze) medals along with 20 Honorable Mentions.
The Saint Patrick Catholic School Theatre Program remained as vibrant as ever under the leadership of our Theatre Director Jason Kypros. Over 40 Wolfhound students participated both on stage and behind the scenes in the first dramatic production at Saint Patrick, A Christmas Carol . The Troupe delighted audiences again with the spring musical production, Pirates of Penzance, Jr.
Our Wolfhound Math-Science Bowl team members competed against seven other Catholic schools at Catholic High School and brought home a 3rd Place trophy this year.
Middle School students participated in Activity Bell every Wednesday, allowing students to self-select courses based on their interests including Advanced Strings led by Music Teacher Dionne Smith. The Advance Strings students visited Old Dominion University for the Ariel Quartet Masterclass and were inspired by the musicians’ talent and dedication to their music.
Wolfhound students in all grade levels participated in exciting learning outside of the classroom.

LIFE OF RELATIONSHIP
Students in PreK through Sixth Grade shared the gift of song with their grandparents and “grand friends” at the Grandparent’s Day Program under the direction of Music Director Chris Kypros. Following the program, Middle School students shared their talents in the visual arts at the Middle School Art Show in the Francis and Harvey L. Lindsay, Jr. Art Connector with Seventh and Eighth Grade students serving as gallery docents.
47 Middle School students served as student ambassadors as part of our Legati program. Students led the Snapshot Tours of our School, giving 108 “Life Of” speeches and serving as hosts for schoolwide events during the year.
Evenings at Saint Patrick offered a robust roster of classes and experiences for adults in our community. These quality enrichment classes covered various topics—such as cooking, wine, regional history, and travel—and also featured the Saint Patrick Classic Car Show, raising over $39,000 for Saint Patrick Catholic School Financial Assistance.
As a Virginia Purple Star School, Saint Patrick is deeply committed to our military families. We celebrated our military students during April, the month of the Military Child, with a full week of events including: a “Military Munchkins” morning for students and their family members; a spirit-filled “Purple Up” Day; a Liberty Tree ceremony featuring a JROTC Drill Team; and a picnic concert by the U.S. Fleet Forces Band.
We celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America with our very own Fiesta Latina on Thursday, October 3. Students and parents with “passports’’ in hand took a tour around the Green to explore the uniqueness of a variety of Latin and South American countries. Attendees sampled culinary delights, enjoyed music, made crafts, and viewed special performances by the Panamanian Folkloric Group of Hampton Roads and Mis Raíces Bailan Folkloric!
Eighth Grade students and teachers enjoyed an overnight, cross-curricular field trip to Washington, D.C., to experience the Franciscan Monastery, National Museum of American History, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and FDR Memorial.
LIFE OF HEALTH & WELLNESS
Students of Saint Patrick Catholic School value a healthy and well-rounded lifestyle that promotes physical, emotional, and psychological well-being through a commitment to healthy nutrition and exercise; teamwork through sports, activities, clubs, or community projects; and a sense of purpose that nourishes their self-worth and commitment to helping others. Over 90% of eligible students participate in at least one sport.
The Seventh Grade Girls Volleyball team were crowned Eastern Tidewater Independent School League champions.
Our Girls Cross Country team claimed the Tidewater Catholic Cross Country League Championship.
Four Saint Patrick Catholic School basketball teams reached the Tidewater Catholic Basketball League Semifinals, while two teams advanced to their respective Championship games at Catholic High.
Middle School Boys Tennis swept Nansemond Suffolk, Cape Henry, Norfolk Collegiate, and the Williams School to finish the season undefeated.
For the second straight year, Saint Patrick Catholic School claimed the fastest boy and girl sprinters among Catholic schools in the 100, 200, and 400 meters. Catholic Track Champions also included boys triple jump, girls 4x400m relay, and boys 4x100m relay. Several school records were broken over the course of the season: girls 4x800m relay by almost three minutes, boys and girls 4x400m relay, girls 200m and 400m, and shot put and discus.
As part of our continued commitment to student mental health and well-being, Saint Patrick introduced The Anxious Generation Book Chats, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Training presented by the Sarah Michelle Peterson Foundation for faculty, students, and parents, and led “Wolfhound Wellness Parent Chats,” focusing on student resilience.

For the first time in School history, Saint Patrick Catholic School students received both the Boys and Girls Scholarship for the Dr. Lawrence G. Dotolo Award, presented to the top 8th Grade student in academics and community service in the Tidewater Catholic Basketball League.
Carrie Suber Sportsmanship Award
Coach Taylor Kelly’s Wolfhound Warriors were presented with the Carrie Suber Sportsmanship Award, named after former Saint Patrick teacher and coach Carrie Suber, who passed away in 2013 and is awarded each year to only one team in the entire league.
LIFE OF SPIRIT
The Seventh Grade Theology, Math, and Spanish Departments collaborated on an interdisciplinary project centered around the theme of “Tiny Houses.” In theology, students explored the concepts of human dignity, simplicity, stewardship of creation, and the Catholic social teaching of the preferential option for the poor. These themes served as a foundation for considering how social issues like housing can reflect Gospel values.
The Dedication of the Eighth Grade Legacy Gift was held on June 6, 2025. The Class of 2025’s gift is the first in a series of banners depicting each “Life of” from the Graduate at Graduation. These banners will hang on the brick wall of the Gym, visible from the Saint Patrick Green. The Class of 2025 banner highlights The Life of Relationship. Bricks bearing the names of each Eighth Grade graduate were installed beneath it to commemorate their time at our school.
Father Jim Curran, our School Chaplain and Rector of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, led grade-level spiritual retreats for our Fifth through Eighth Grade students.
The Prayer Buddy program for our youngest Wolfhounds continued, with our oldest students mentoring Kindergarten and First Grade students, especially during Chapels and Masses.
Christian Unity Day was celebrated on January 22, 2025 with pastors from area parishes and churches joining us for a special Chapel. Students who attend the various parishes and churches introduced their pastors.
We kicked off Catholic Schools Week with “Bundles of Blessings” and “Cans for the Hungry” service projects. The artwork of 20 Saint Patrick students was featured in the Catholic Schools Week Art Show at Dragonfly Art Studio in Norfolk. Music Director Chris Kypros held his annual piano concert. Each day of the week had a different theme. Students celebrated with a special Mass, art projects, “Dress Like a Saint Day,” and ended the week with a fun-filled “Faith Pep Rally.”
LIFE OF VOCATION
The Celtic Council Student Government successfully led community service initiatives, such as Toys for Tots, and organized school spirit events, including the Trick-or-Treat Trail, the Feast on the Feast, Lower School Movie Nights, and Middle School Dances.
Our PreK Community Helpers program is always a huge hit! Wolfhound parents and community members share their time and talent, explaining how they each serve our community in their respective roles.
Our Eighth Grade students honored four deserving community leaders at the 2025 Servant Leadership Dinner in March. Close to 200 guests gathered to recognize our honorees for their selfless servant leadership. Our Eighth Grade students served as waiters and waitresses, earning over $1,200 in tips for the Class of 2025 Fund. Our annual tribute to local servant leaders serves not only as a celebration of members of our local
parishes and community, but it inspires our students and all in attendance through their selfless example. This annual tribute highlights members of our local parishes and community while inspiring all in attendance to follow their selfless example.
The Laudato Si Committee spearheaded another successful Earth Day event in April, hosting a wide array of environmentallyfocused community experts. We earned the River Star and Pearl School awards again this school year, and, as a school community, collected more than 1,000 lbs of plastic for the Trex program, earning a new bench for the Green. Environmental efforts around campus include: the addition of solar panels
to the Hammond Outdoor Classroom, improvements to the butterfly garden and pier, and in-class discussions to increase student awareness about the “Three R’s” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), energy and water conservation, and how to take care of the Earth. A new Middle School Activity Bell, Eco Stewards, was created to empower students to lead our community in environmental efforts.
Servant Leadership was alive and well with 23 student-led service projects for numerous organizations across our community including, but not limited to: Locks of Love; Cause for Paws; Soles4Souls; Clothes for the Cold; Reach Out and Read; Operation Craft Supplies; Hygiene for the Homeless; and Toys for Tots - just to name a few.
LIFE OF CHARACTER & COURAGE
In the beginning of the school year, we introduced a brand new “Life of” - the Life of Character and Courage. Saint Patrick students will develop the character strengths essential to leading lives of consequence as ethical, compassionate, and courageous servant leaders.
We launched the Graduate at Graduation Growth Chart as a self-reflection and goal-setting tool for students. The chart helped Third through Eighth Grade students and teachers discuss progress in key skills and characteristics linked to success, emphasizing growth over time.
Completing a Saint Patrick rite of passage, our Eighth Grade students presented their Graduate at Graduation Panels in May. These students were challenged to reflect and, with
honest self-discernment, write an essay about their growth in The Life of Mind, The Life of Spirit, The Life of Vocation, The Life of Relationship, The Life of Health and Wellness, and the Life of Character and Courage. Using their essays as a guide, the students then created an oral presentation to present to a panel made up of parents, teachers, board members, community members, and alumni. The Eighth Grade students rose to the challenge and spoke with eloquence, confidence, and honesty about their triumphs and struggles as a Wolfhound. We were thrilled to welcome our students back from spring break with Student Wolfhound Wellness Resilience Day with Rob McLeod - aka Frisbee Rob, a 13x Guinness World Record holder and motivational speaker, who inspires resilience,
confidence, and movement through dynamic games and lessons in all things frisbee. Throughout Rob’s assembly and grade-level workshops, he taught students the importance of developing a growth mindset, embracing challenges, learning from mistakes, and building resilience, emphasizing the importance of staying active for lifelong success and taking breaks from screens to rediscover real-world fun.
The Charles V. and Theresa H. McPhillips Scholarship has been established at Catholic High School for a graduate of Saint Patrick Catholic School on the basis of academic merit, demonstrating potential leadership skills, and personal character strengths to include integrity, perseverance, resilience, consciousness, and a concern for the needs of others.

The Wolfhound community has established funds to support general endowment as well as specific academic, faculty, and student programs. Endowments are invested to support Saint Patrick Catholic School’s mission in perpetuity.
The portfolio of endowed funds is managed by Cerity Partners in Norfolk, VA, with oversight from the Board of Directors of the Saint Patrick Catholic School Foundation. The June 2024 market value of each fund is listed next to the fund name. Support in any amount is welcome for any existing fund. New funds can be named with a minimum investment of $10,000.
