Thank you for your interest in our 2017 Summer Program! We are excited about all of the great things we have planned, the classes we have to offer, and the variety of options for everyone. We listened to the suggestions you made and have provided many choices throughout the summer. You can select full days/parts days all summer long or just a week or two through the summer! Whatever your interest is, St. Paul’s Summer Camp is the place for you! Summer in the City Day Camp is a lightly structured camp with many exciting activities for all ages. Games, arts, literacy, community service projects, field trips, and lots of outdoor activities are some of the things we have planned to entertain the campers as they create new friendships and memories at St. Paul’s! A few details regarding our summer program:

REGISTRATION Summer In The City Traditional Day Camp Camp will be offered from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day with an option to come earlier and stay later at no additional cost. You may also choose to attend the full day or a half day (9 a.m. – 1 p.m. or Noon – 4 p.m.). We have a theme for each week to help you select the most exciting week(s) for your child!

Class Enrollment There is a minimum enrollment for each class. If a class needs to be cancelled due to low enrollment, you will be notified two weeks prior to the class start date. If a class is cancelled, you may switch to another class or request a full refund.

Refunds If you choose to cancel an enrollment, a written request is required two weeks prior to the start of the class in order to receive a 75% refund. Full refunds are given when there are at least three weeks written notice provided.

Lunch Lunch is served daily at Noon and is included in your fees. Daily sign up for lunch is required by 10 a.m. to secure a lunch. We will serve a hot lunch one day per week and the remaining four days will be cold lunches.

Extended Day Extended day is included in Summer in the City Day Camp fees. Please contact Karen McDonald if you are in need of extended day on any given day.

Traditional Camp Schedule

SUMMER IN THE CITY

Traditional Camp is available to students Toddler – 5th grade from 7:15 a.m. – 6 p.m. throughout the summer. Through the day, we’ll do traditional camp activities based on the theme, but we also incorporate fields trips (NEW THIS YEAR), literacy, games, arts, free time, etc. We split traditional camp into two age groups: Toddler – PreS and PreK – 5th.

The Great Campout: (June 5 – 9)

Show Biz Kidz (July 17 – 21)

Just because St. Paul’s is in the middle of the city doesn’t mean we can’t have a good old fashioned campout! The tents will come indoors and the s’mores will taste just as good as we experience what it’s like to “sleep under the stars”. Campers will enjoy both indoor and outdoor camping activities from flash light tag to capture the flag. We’ll write letters home and make friendship bracelets too! All this camping fun will make you want to gather around a bonfire and sing Kumbaya.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to perform on stage? Do you enjoy singing songs, telling jokes, or showing off your dance moves? Join Summer in the City as we hit the stage and showcase all of our amazing talents. We will play drama games, learn fun dances, and maybe master a magic trick or two. Our week will end with a talent show that will be sure to amaze!

Never Neverland (July 24 – 28)

Pull out your cowbells and get your hoedown on; it’s time to get down on the farm! Join us for a pig snortin’ good week as we engage in exciting barnyard-themed activities. From practicing milking a cow to making homemade fresh butter, campers will finish camp feeling like they could work on Old MacDonald’s farm.

When you wish upon a star your dreams come true – and Summer in the City invites you to wish and dream Disney style in this fairy dust-filled camp. From Snow White to Finding Nemo, there is something for everyone during this magical week. Campers will get to dress like their favorite Disney characters, play Disney-themed games, and maybe even cook up some Disney-themed treats! Dreams will definitely be coming true during Never Neverland Camp!

Lab Rats: (June 19 – 23)

Back to Nature (July 31 – Aug 4)

Science is all around us, and this week our campers will get to experiment with it! We will perform various experiments and hone some engineering skills to get in touch with our geeky side. Brains will fill with curiosity as campers inquire, test, and track different experiments throughout the week. Time to get messy and smarter!

It’s time to get wild with this hands on week including all things nature! We will learn all about critters and creatures that roam the globe and that roam in our own backyards. We’ll work in our community garden, go on nature hunts, and hug a few trees. Hands will get dirty and nature explorers will be born during this exciting and interactive week.

Barnyard Palooza: (June 12 – 16)

Happy Birthday, USA! (June 26 – 30) As the U.S.A. turns 241, a patriotic birthday celebration is in order! This week, campers will participate in all things red, white and blue. We will learn about the history of our country with star-spangled games and projects and end the week with a birthday celebration fit for the land of the free!

The Best of KC (July 10 – 14) Kansas City is a great place to be! The city offers champion sports teams, famous barbecue, beautiful fountains, and of course, the best campers around! This week, our KC campers will experience all that our great city has to offer. Campers will design their own fountains, taste various barbecue sauces, and shout the Royals, Chiefs or Sporting chant to their hearts’ content. Get ready to wear your favorite KC gear and learn why Kansas City is one of the best cities around.

Block Party (Aug 7 – 11) The strong community at St. Paul’s is truly one of a kind. It feels like we are all neighbors! What better way to end our fabulous summer than with a classic neighborhood block party camp? Campers will spend the week enjoying their St. Paul’s friends for one last hurrah before school starts. Water play, outdoor games, and ice cream trucks will be enjoyed as we bid a sweet farewell to Summer in the City.

Our Summer Classes give our students the chance to truly experience summer. All about exploration and fun, we offer morning and afternoon classes from Toddler – 7th grade.

WEEK ONE

(JUNE 5 — 9) Sliding into Second Grade Fun! earn all things second grade while having summer fun! L We will enjoy summer themes including: camping, ice cream party, Fourth of July, and swimming. Grade: 2nd Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Boys in the Kitchen It’s a “No Girls Allowed!” class. Practice making manly treats during this macho camp with Mrs. Mo and Mrs. Leek. We will be prepping, mixing, and eating our yummy creations! Every little guy should know how to cook in the kitchen! Grade: PreS – PreK Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Anyone Can Cook Calling all cooks! This week, we will learn the basics of cooking tasty and healthy food for yourself and your family. Mr. Ronan will lead the group to create fantastic menus of kids’ favorites and use easy-to-follow recipes and simple cooking techniques. Grade: 2nd – 5th Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Kings of Summer Need a little time with the boys? Come hang out with your pals, and we will get to have a blast doing your favorite summer activities, such as: scavenger hunts, painting rocks, making some fun edible treats, playing some games in the gym with just the boys, and much more! Galaxy Girls Children are born scientists - they test, build, smash, squish, poke, and question everything in sight. Giving them hands-on experiences is a great way to let them find out more about their world and foster their love of discovery!

In this camp, we will get our hands dirty and learn all about science through experiments and cooking! Grade: PreS – 1st Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

You Gotta Have Art! School’s out for summer! It is now time to kick back and be creative with your friends! We will get crafty all morning and make some fun items such as beadie babies, little books, and jewelry. This class with Mrs. Laird is sure to be a hit so don’t miss out because remember, you gotta have art! Grade: 1st – 4th Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

“Fun with Dr. Seuss” “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go!” Time to have some fun with all of your favorite Dr. Seuss books! Join Ms. Stephenson to make crafts, cook, and play games that go along with these classic stories. Grade: PreS – K Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Mrs. Williams and the Mystery Camp You won’t know until you get here! Mrs. Williams will lead campers in doing something interesting, fun, silly, and exciting every day. What will you do this week? Safe Sitters Babysitting Class Babysitting is a very responsible yet fun way to spend your summer! But are you prepared? Learn everything from planning fun activities for the kids to handling babysitting emergencies quickly and appropriately. We will discuss behavioral issues, how to promote your

business, and what you should expect when working with young children. You will also get to spend some hands on time with young children to personally experience the responsibility of interacting with youth (with adult supervision). You will end the week with a card of completion (that will comfort the parents!) and a manual. This class will be led by Ms. Kuhls, the school nurse. Grade: 6th – 8th Time: 1 – 4 p.m. Price: $175

Queens of Summer This one’s for you, girls! Enjoy some time away from the boys while making your own jewelry, painting your nails, and even making some fun, edible treats! Joins us as we relax with some much needed time with the girls! Grade: PreK – 1st Time: 1 – 4 p.m. Price: $175

Garage Rock Band Rock Band is for kids ready to rock! This class will introduce you to the basics of making your own music. Mr. Kaevan will provide a basic band setup including microphones, different types of guitars, a keyboard, and a drum machine so you can experiment! This class includes crafts, games, and activities designed to break the mold of typical music classes, so you can learn how easy and fun it is to write and play music! WEEK TWO

(JUNE 12 — 16) Critter Camp If you like reading and making your own critters, this camp is for you! Join Mrs. Dillingham and Mrs. House as we read stories and re-create their creepy, crawly, and cuddly characters with our own two hands! Grade: K – 2nd Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Pony Palooza Come join Mrs. Lawrence and play with all things horses! In this class, we will learn all about horses and how to care for them. Each day you are invited to make horse-based treats and crafts while sharing with your friends. At the end of camp, we are given the opportunity to interact with a real, live horse! All of your play horses are invited to attend with you! Grade: PreK – 3rd Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Lego Builders Building with Legos is a wonderful way to engage young learners in early math concepts and to encourage building problem solving skills, confidence, and creativity. Join us for a week full of Lego-building challenges, collaborative creating, and lots of fun! We will round the week up with a field trip to Legoland! Music Olympics Come explore rhythms, notes, rests, and music terminology through games, activities, and sports. This is a great camp to brush up on music basics and have lots of fun! Ms. Ashley will get you up to speed for Fall music classes! Grade: K – 4th Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Wet N Wild! If you don’t mind getting a little wet, you’ll have a blast in this class! Take a break from the heat and splash around with your friends. Take a ride down the slip n’ slide, play some sponge tag, toss some water balloons, and hop down the hopscotch sprinkler. Sensory Overload This class is full of mess, bubbles, and fun! You will get the chance to get dirty with the sensory table and get hands-on experience with the stickiest, ickiest things you can find, like gak, mud, and bubbles! Pop into Preschool!

Dramatic Adventures This is a great camp for the creative, dramatic, and imaginative kid! Harry Potter Camp Hogwarts USA

Students, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Kansas City campus. You will study many topics including fantastic beasts, potions, the history of Hogwarts USA, transfiguration, and dueling. Come ready to test your knowledge about the world of Harry Potter. SPECIAL EVENT THIS YEAR: Each student and a parent will be able to attend a trip to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts to watch a screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone — with the Kansas City Symphony playing the entire soundtrack! This is a once-in-a-lifetime event! The movie will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 21st. There will be an additional fee to cover the cost of the two tickets per family.

Chef Combo Chef Combo wants to bake and cook during summer vacation. He has new recipes to try that he wants to make with his favorite St. Paul’s students. Reading Rainbow Come learn more about the books we read and the subjects they cover. Pair up with a friend to read a favorite book or discover something new curled up in a pile of pillows on the famous “loft” with Mrs. Williams. This class will be based loosely on the original TV show Reading Rainbow and will include opportunities to use the new Reading Rainbow app too, so you can take the fun home with you! Mission and Service Mission and Service is a class that continues the work of the sacrificial heart of the St. Paul’s school year into the summer. Campers will operate week-long community service projects including a food and book drive, volunteering in a local food pantry, cleaning grounds at a local parks, and walking/caring for pets in an animal shelter just to name a few. Neverland Camp

Magic Tree House Welcome to a week of adventure in the Magic Tree House! We will travel in time, play the games and learn about the cultures of fantastic places. You will be given the opportunity to collaborate with friends to write your own chapters in the Jack and Annie saga. We will also learn more about Merlin, Morgan, Arthur, and the other characters from the stories. Grade: PreK – 2nd Time: 1 – 4 p.m. Price: $175

WEEK FIVE

Moving Up To 1st Grade! This camp is an introduction to the structure and atmosphere of 1st grade. Our activities will include language arts, math, technology, and hands on science. This is a great way to prepare you for the transition to 1st grade! Grade: 1st Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Songwriting for Kids Have you ever wanted to write your own music? This camp will combine rhythms, notes, and lyrics into a composition that we will perform! Join Ms. Ashley to discover the songs inside your heart, and watch them come to life! Grade: 2nd – 5th Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Musical Passport

(JULY 10 — 14)

A Beachy Keen Summer! St. Paul’s may be landlocked, but we will bring the sights and sounds of beach life to us with a little imagination and a whole lot of fun. Join Miss Mac on a journey under the sea exploring ocean creatures and beachside activities. Our class will build sand creations, read ocean stories, work on our surfboard stance, and make some tasty beach treats! Grade: PreS - K Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Jump Into Kindergarten! Come and see what Kindergarten is all about! Join Ms. Stephenson and have fun making crafts, cooking, playing in centers, and making new friends before your kindergarten year! Backyard All Stars Tired of being bored in the summer?! Well, come join us for some backyard game fun with Mrs. Russell. You will get to play a variety of traditional and new games: SPUD, Hot Potato, basketball, chain tag, and many more! KC Chess Club We will challenge chess players with new material while reinforcing a solid foundation and encouraging the growth of positive life skills in every individual. Pinkalicious Frills, thrills, and lace are the words of the week! If you like princesses and fairies this is the class for you! We will spend the week surrounded in an explosion of pink! WEEK SIX

Inspired by the Broadway show, Stomp, we will make music and create movement using everyday items from around our school. This high energy week culminates with a performance created by the students. Dino Days

Lab Coats

Dino Days is a class designed for any and all dinosaur lovers! We will focus on the sounds, colors, names and family origins of all of your favorite dinos! We will learn, discover and experiment through play-based activities. You will be provided a tub brimming with vintage dinosaur toys and dino books to explore on your own! Come chomp, stomp, and roar your way into a fun summer class! Grade: PreK – 3rd Time: 9 a.m. – Noon Price: $175

Grab your magnifying glass and lab coat! This class is sure to be an exciting one as we perform experiments in the science lab! Nothing is too challenging for us! Early Room and Late Room are always available for no additional fee! We open at 7:15 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. We are including field trips in summer camp this year! We will do a lot of traveling around the city and as a bonus, there will be no additional fees for these field trips! All field trip admission fees, transportation fees, supplies, and costs for special events to come to SPEDS are included in your base fee. Field trips are scheduled for children entering PreK and above. Flexible schedule – you may sign up for full time or part time each week, depending on your needs. Campers in the traditional camp are divided into two age groups so we can offer developmentally appropriate, fun activities for all ages! If you have a last minute child care need, we accept drop ins! Just contact Karen McDonald at kmcdonald@speds. org or 816.268.6536 if a need arises and we will take care of you! (Drop in care is available in traditional camp only).

CANCELLATION POLICY

A written request is required two weeks prior to the start of the class in order to receive a 75% refund. Full refunds are given when there are at least three weeks written notice provided. The school will make the decision to cancel class/camp due to low interest two weeks before the start date. Should this occur, you will be notified via email and receive a full refund of fees paid.

NONPAYMENT POLICY We encourage you to pre-register your child(ren) for the class/camp they are interesteded in – this helps us plan staffing and supplies. But we understand that sometimes situations change at the last minute and we always accommodate drop ins. Should your child(ren) drop in for camp, we will charge the credit card on file in your CampBrain account without notifying you. You will be contacted via email if you do not have a card on file or it is denied. Payments are not made through student billing for summer camp.

Our staff are CPR/First Aid trained. They also attend summer camp training to provide a quality camp experience for everyone. Camp is offered every week June 5 through August 11. We are closed the week of July 3 – 7 for the Independence Day Holiday.We will offer Extended Day care the week of May 30 – June 2. Feel free to join us for lunch. Each child must bring a labeled water bottle every day to camp. A security guard will be on duty full time throughout the summer. They will be on campus from 7:15 a.m. – 6 p.m. Additionally, all external doors as well as the north wing entrance, will be kept locked at all times. If we are walking to a field trip location, security will accompany the group.
