INVEST IN LEARNING. INVEST IN LEADERS. PHASE TWO: INSPIRING IMAGINATION IN THE YOUNGER GRADES
PHASE ONE: INNOVATIVE MIDDLE SCHOOL COMPLETE Renovation campaign brings dynamic improvements to St. Paul’s
IN AUGUST 2018, WE OPENED THE DOORS TO THE CULMINATION OF PHASE ONE OF OUR INVEST IN LEARNING. INVEST IN LEADERS. CAMPAIGN.
Today, you can find students exploring coding in the new makerspace, creating water color art with a professional artist in the upgraded art room, using vernier probes in the expanded science lab, building camaraderie in the pitch space, and so much more. The renovated spaces are exceeding expectations as our teachers use them to expand our students’ abilities to ask good questions, test hypotheses, and find solutions to engaging problems. “I love the resources the spaces offer us. I’ve really enjoyed the open maker space hours where students work on specific design challenges or their own passion projects. So far this year, we’ve worked on 3-d printing, circuitry, engineering, coding, and more. It brings increased voice and choice for the student, which is very powerful for their learning.” – Maeve O’Connor, 6th grade science teacher and innovation leader
Now, we work to bring these transformative learning spaces to the lower grades, too. Our Middle School faculty utilize our new flexible learning hubs and common spaces all day every day – harnessing the power of small group learning in spaces designed to foster collaboration. Our younger kids deserve the same opportunity. Our Summer 2019 renovations will bring this vision to the entire St. Paul’s school community. But we can’t do it without your help.

PHASE TWO: INSPIRING IMAGINATION IN THE YOUNGER GRADES PHASE TWO OF THE INVEST IN LEARNING. INVEST IN LEADERS. CAMPAIGN WILL BRING OUR VISION FOR DYNAMIC LEARNING TO THE FIRST THROUGH FIFTH GRADE SPACES.
We will upgrade the first through fifth grade classrooms and commons, transform the lobby into a gallery and learning space, and start the process of updating our outdoor learning spaces. We’ve been building towards this moment for four years. We’ve been laser-focused on strategic programmatic enhancements to provide the very best school experience in Kansas City, adding student-centered academic, counseling, and experiential learning initiatives. Our faculty have invested hundreds of hours in professional development to learn new curriculum and teaching methods, ensuring they are exceptional teachers and guides for our students. We are now a leading STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) school in the area, and we have embraced the student-friendly Project Based Learning strategy schoolwide. We have aligned our curriculum and staffing model to allow for small group instruction, differentiation,
and program enhancements like our makerspace curriculum because we know this is how students learn best. In short, we are strategically providing the very best in education to our students each and every day. We built the programmatic foundation, and now we’re transforming the learning environment. The lower and middle school building is nearing its 25th anniversary. Education has changed dramatically over the past 25 years, and we have accelerated this change over the past four years. Our spaces must catch up. Our students and faculty deserve nimble, innovative spaces that support and inspire the work they do each day: commons spaces that invite community and creativity, classrooms filled with natural light and leading technology that engage and motivate, and easy access to outdoor exploration. With your support we can rapidly finish the transformation of the St. Paul’s campus. Our goal: When the students return in August 2019, the entire south building will be updated and ready to support the innovative teaching and learning that’s happening across our campus every day.
“We know that students are more engaged and have longer attention spans when working on hands-on experiments. Moving stationary desks for a hands-on group project, and then putting them back for the next class, can take 20% of my instructional time for a subject. I want to give that time back to my students. Can you imagine what they can do with 20% more trial and error, or 20% more time problemsolving together?”

2nd Floor Commons
“We have watched the Phase One renovation inspire student learning with its student-centered commons and flex-hub, collaborative breakout rooms, and open classrooms. For Phase Two, we are excited to create a space that reflects the creativity and unique needs of our younger students. The renovations will allow our dynamic curriculum to shine and spark a lifelong love of learning in our younger students.”
– Mindy Stephenson, Toddler-2nd Grade Division Head
FINANCIAL BREAKDOWN THE INVEST IN LEARNING. INVEST IN LEADERS. CAMPAIGN IS AMBITIOUS.
We’ve asked our community to help us transform the learning experience at St. Paul’s in a span of two years. And you’re making it happen. Since the beginning of our campaign, we have raised more than $4,500,000 for renovations. As promised, we completed Phase One before the start of the 2018-2019 school year, and we came in on time and under budget. To continue the momentum, we need to raise an additional $1,672,000 to fully fund the updated
Phase Two scope and jumpstart our plans for the outside spaces. We expect another $1,000,000 to be pledged soon. That leaves a gap of $672,000. We’re counting on our parent community to help us fill the gap. A campaign like this doesn’t happen every day. We need every member of the St. Paul’s community to join together to make this project a reality. Let’s invest in learning and invest in leaders for the next 25 years, together.
