From the Editor Welcome to our November edition! Usually in November we are advertising local firework displays on or around the 5th of the month. This year for obvious reasons, there are no organised events as the country continues to adhere to social distancing measures. Please spare a thought for all our pets if you plan to celebrate Bonfire Night this year and please, please take extra care if you are having your own display at home.

Letters to the Editor Dear Editor,
Dear Editor
During October my Husband and I were most fortunate to celebrate our Diamond Wedding Anniversary. A cousin of ours Mary, contacted the Stotfold Magazine to explain that due to current restrictions we were unable to celebrate as we had planned with lots of of our family and friends. We understand that your magazine posted a congratulatory message on your facebook page welcoming people to wish us a happy anniversary if they wished to do so. We were totally overwhelmed at the amount of well wishers that commented on this post - over 50 we were told! (we are having them printed off as a keepsake.) We would both like to thank everyone that offered us their congratulations - it really did make our day and to our cousin Mary for such a thoughtful idea. Ken & Christine Hyde. Editors Note: We were so pleased to have been able to help you celebrate your day! Ken and Christine are pictured with their card received from Buckingham Palace.
Dear Editor, I would just like to say a massive thank you to Trevor Freer in Astwick. After recently asking through social media for recommendations of people that were able to transfer video to dvd (so that I could watch my old wedding video) many people suggested people for me to try. The Stotfold News Magazine gave me a couple of options, one of which was Trevor. I rang Trevor and found him to be such a lovely, helpful man. After discovering it was my wedding anniversary, he really delighted us by saying he would get the transfer done for us that same day so that we could watch it on our anniversary! He really went above and beyond and we were so very grateful. I just thought it would be really nice to give him a mention in the magazine to thank him for such a wonderful service. Thank you very much. Michelle McDade Dear Editor, We have recently sold our house in Stotfold and would like to recommend Stephens Estate Agents to anyone thinking of selling or buying. Chris and Suzanne were with us every step of the way. They kept us up dated on any progress, chased solicitors etc and answered all our questions without delay. They were a great support and we are extremely grateful to them. King Regards, S White
I would like to express my gratitude to The Stotfold Good Neighbour Group for giving support over the last 12 months to my 97-year-old father who lives alone in the village. Being an Australian citizen, I cannot visit the UK and our Covid travel ban seems likely to stay in place throughout most of 2021.
SGNG have been a lifeline in befriending dad and he looks forward to their home visits. Take a look at what they do - you can find them simply by googling ‘Stotfold Good Neighbour Group.’ I know the group has limited capacity - They would very much welcome new volunteers for befriending and general support such as driving the elderly to appointments and shopping.
Even if you only have a spare hour per week, I am certain the group would love to hear from you (stotfoldgoodneighbour@gmail.com or 07599 925 587)

Following on from the success of last month’s new feature ‘Word on the street’ We took to the pavements once again this month to ask residents what new skills and hobbies they have taken up over the last few months.. we’ve been improving our baking skills and invested in a soup maker...not to great success we might add!
Thank you again to all those people that agreed to take part., you might recognise a few more familiar faces on the next few pages. If you would consider being featured in a future issue and don’t mind having your voice heard then we would love to hear from you! Simply drop us a line at stotfold.news@yahoo.co.uk or message us facebook page.

As with many others, I have spent much of lockdown working on the garden. However more than that I have taken extra time to study, identify and learn about more of the animals, birds and insects that use it as a home, shelter or feeding station . It has been a real education and I have invested in several weighty insect identification books to help me along. Last year we began to make the garden more wildlife-friendly, putting in a wildlife hedge, pond, nectar-rich plants, small areas of longer grass, bird boxes, bat boxes, bee boxes, bird feeders and a log pile. I had followed tips from the RSPB, Monty Don and Kate Bradbury amongst others. I hadn't really expected any instant results but with time to sit and observe, I was astounded and delighted to spot more than 30 species of birds, 10 different types of bees along with hedgehogs, voles, frogs, newts, countless different hoverflies, butterflies and moths as well as bats and even a hornet. It really bears out the saying "Build it and they will come".
Conditions treated include spinal and extremity injuries, neck related headaches and sprains/strains.
We are NOW OPEN Our revised opening hours: Tues: 2pm-7pm Wed: 10am-1pm Thursday: 3pm-7pm Friday: 10am - 1pm Saturday: 10am-2pm
I have loved watching the different behaviours of the various visitors and how they interact. It has been such a calming and relaxing experience to just sit and take it all in free mental therapy in the most beautiful of surroundings. It has also been rewarding to count all the baby birds that have successfully fledged (blackbirds, song thrushes, blue tits, sparrows, dunnocks, coal tits, goldfinches, starlings to name a few) and to have had several different species of bees (solitary and bumble) building nests here. I have also very much enjoyed sharing the results with others on the Stotfold Facebook pages especially "Gardening Gurus" and "Stotfold In Pictures" both of which were created during lockdown. I remember Monty Don saying that you should spend at least as much time enjoying the garden as you do working on it and I have certainly achieved that this year. I feel that I have only really just embarked on this journey and look forward to many more years of learning, study and observation to come....

As Secretary to Stotfold Mill Preservation Trust I have found the past months extremely frustrating. Like all the Trustees, I am anxious to establish a plan for the future of the mill that will guarantee it remains available for the education and wonderment of generations of visitors to come, but lockdown rules have meant we have been unable to meet. Even more concerning, the mill has been closed and our major events have been abandoned leaving a fall in our funding reserves.
On the brighter side, with no groups of youngsters to entertain and Sunday afternoons free, my garden has shown the benefit of greater attention, particularly during those summer weeks of sunshine. My shiny green bin will be handy for the winter clearing!
When the rains came, I retired indoors with my kindle or watched afternoon TV. Not keen to ‘escape to the country’, put my ‘home under the hammer’, have my ‘garden rescued’ or even make ‘money for nothing’ and I was not into watching folks smarter than me win fortunes but I am wondering why afternoon drama is more watchable than the evening soaps!
My greatest regret is that time with grandchildren has been severely limited and looks to be even more so for the foreseeable future. We did manage to chat at a distance in the garden on a few occasions when the weather was fine but it looks winter will further limit our contact. I only hope that Santa can come up with a vaccine for Christmas so that our postponed family holiday can go ahead next year.

So what have we learnt in the past several months... We are both more relaxed, especially Anne as I have always been relaxed! I have tried to make Anne think more positively rather than negatively. This has proven to be hard work!) New skills for Anne include: Organisational skills and how to delegate more, concerning the restarting of the Stotfold Good Neighbour Group Chair Based Exercise classes that restarted on 2nd October. New skills for myself include:- DIY skills, having the confidence to try something for the first time, doing it as opposed to knowing how to do it!
Both of us, learning the ‘Covid-19 dance ‘ when meeting someone coming towards you:- Stop, go to the left, then go to the right, then go straight ahead. Finally, as two people of mature years we have both learnt that “Common Sense” is the best way forward. “

During lockdown to ensure Fairfield Community Church could continue to support the community, the first skill I learnt was how to edit video recordings so services could be posted on YouTube. Creating a church YouTube channel was also a first for me. I have just started learning how to stream live services SCOTT GEEKIE via YouTube and all the GENERAL BUILDER technical aspects that go PROPERTY MAINTENANCE with that. I never expected ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT to learn or need any of GUTTERING REPAIRS these skills before PLASTERING Covid-19!" SMALL JOBS VERY WELCOME

Stotfold Garden Club: Update.
We have now cancelled the outing to Scotsdales Garden Centre in November and, unfortunately, the entertainer at our Christmas party in December, as that is cancelled as well. We cannot move forward now, until we get some release from the government to allow larger meetings to take place. Please bear with us and we will update in December.

Let’s Get Festive... If the last nine months have taught us anything, it is that we have to make the very best of the situation we all find ourselves in this Christmas time. Due to obvious reasons, Stotfold will not be able to host it’s usual array of Christmas events, including the Community Christmas Fayre, Light Switch On event and Christmas Market. Instead, it is going to be down to every individual to help make sure that Stotfold is still feeling festive and that the town enters the Christmas spirit wherever possible.
The Stotfold News Magazine have put their heads together along with Stotfold Town Council to come up with a plan to both recognise and celebrate the hard work that goes into making Stotfold look so festive at this special time of the year.
‘Light up Christmas’ is open to every single household in Stotfold and really will have something for everyone. Do you enjoy decorating your house, perhaps you go ‘all out’ and like to include the whole house and garden or are you more ‘low key’ and prefer to just decorate your front window?
Whatever your preference, we are looking for those homes which bring the best contribution to making Stotfold feel that extra bit Christmas-like this festive season.
Perhaps you feel your whole road deserves recognition? Do you and your neighbours join together to create a stunning stretch of decorations? Do you own a business in Stotfold? Perhaps you are working from home and your house is now your ‘office’...we’ve taken that into consideration too... With something for everyone and the chance for everyone to be included, we hope the whole community will enjoy getting involved!

Hello Stotfold News, Thank you so much for your wonderful nostalgic page. Down Memory Lane. I've already been in several pictures and it's takes me back.
You mentioned Mr Hare in last month’s page as he had invited you to his home to share a few photographs. I remember Mr Hare (Martin) we were good friends all the way up to Etonbury. Maybe if he reads this letter and wants to get get back in touch he could let you know and you could pass on my details - it would be marvellous to get back in touch with him after all CLAIRE’S these years.

By the way, I am the chubby lad seated second from the right between two girls, Julie Gates right of me, and Dawn English on the left (if memory serves me right). I can name probably 50% of the boys and girls, and Mrs Andrews is the teacher. A have got back in touch with a handful of fiends who are in this picture via Facebook, and prior to that in Friends Reunited.
As for me, I left my parents house in Stotfold way back in 1982. I go back to Stotfold every year. Last year 2019, I had a pint in my old local The Chequers, just opposite where that school used to be and where that photograph was taken circa 1965/66.
I hope some of your older readers somewhere will remember me and look back on our childhoods with fondness. Sincerely Martin Welch

News from
Stotfold Watermill
Thank you all so much‌.
Our most sincere thanks to all the motorists who have driven with care along Mill Lane in recent weeks while the scaffolding has been in place, enabling the painting of the exterior of the mill. Those of you who have seen the mill since the wok was completed will have recognised the tremendous job that was done by local decorator, Paul Robinson. Paul started work in the Indian summer of early September but he was hit by the monsoon conditions of storm Alex at the start of October before he was able to complete his task. Very many thanks to Paul for a fantastic job. It is more than 15 years since the building was first painted by a team of volunteers and we are confident that it will be as long again before it needs painting again.
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that most of our current volunteers, and certainly not the present Trustees, will be actively involved by then. This once more prompts a desperate plea for members of our community to come forward to join the Stotfold Mill Preservation Trust in its aim of preserving this iconic working mill for future generations. The current pandemic means that activities and events at the mill will largely remain on hold for some time but we continue to hold hopes for the future. We have recently secured confirmation that we can have use of the field opposite the mill for next year and our Major Events team are planning for the Steam Fair and Country Show in May with the hope of it being able to go ahead.
The team would welcome new volunteers with ideas to make this an outstanding event to bring us out of current restrictions. Later, help will be needed with marketing and advertising, setting up, marshalling etc. If you are interested to find out more about volunteering in any way please go to our website www.stotfoldmill,com/volunteer, call us on 01462 734541 or email volunteersupport@stotfoldmill.com.
Recently we have been very pleased to receive a set of plates depicting scenes of Stotfold which came from the home of Margaret Richardson and were donated to our archive collection by her daughter. Margaret, who sadly died earlier this year this year, was one of the early volunteers at the Trust. We look forward to displaying the plates in the mill when we are able to open again.
Finally, a reminder that Ray Kilby continues to give his time and effort to milling flour and producing rolled oats which can be purchased from Beale Bros Butchers in Regent Street. Many thanks Ray – at least Stotfold residents can get through a winter of Hands, Face, Space by sharing bowls of hot porridge while following the Rule of Six! Happy Halloween from all of us at Stotfold Mill!

Poppies Pre-School
During September and October children at Poppies and Poppyfields nurseries have had a wonderful time outside with their Forest School activities. The weather was lovely and they enjoyed exploring nature, seasonal changes and associated wildlife. At Poppies there are currently two toads residing in the frog hotel, while the frog is nestling in the butterfly boutique! We also have a resident hedgehog who is living in our bug hotel, safely away from little hands and feet! Squirrels frequent the trees and a robin is becoming very brave around the children!
During November these explorations at both nurseries will continue In our Wild Wood, Spinney and Nook, with wellies out in force! Children will also recreate firework pictures, perform firework dances and learn about Diwali.
Our new virtual communication platform is up and running and proving very popular in providing daily updates for families at nursery and after school club.
Our after-school clubs on both St Mary’s Academy and Fairfield Park Lower School Sites have been enjoying theme nights in addition to free play. A big favourite is acting out plays to their friends!
We currently have places available at both sites: Poppies Nursery, St Mary’s Academy 7.45-6 p.m, and Poppyfields at Fairfield Lower School, Dickens Boulevard site 8-6 p.m. Poppies offer places to children aged two and over, with the St Mary’s Reception children attending our before/ after school provision. Poppyfields also offer places to children from two years old, with before/ after school provision for Fairfield children in nursery, reception and Key Stage 1.
Take care and see you next month for more news!

Etonbury Academy
We are really proud of the way in which our children have settled back into school life, and it’s wonderful to see them enjoying being with their friends. October is the UK national campaign ‘Black History Month’, and Mrs Young has been leading this to celebrate important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. This is always an excellent opportunity to extend on the work within our curriculum throughout the year.
When you read this we will be moving into our new whole school reception area and exclusive Year 5 building (ex-Pix Brook building opposite our Sports Centre). This will provide a unique and smaller environment for our Year 5 Junior school children and a safer environment to welcome all our visitors to the Academy. It is an exciting time for us as we also plan for our Sixth Form opening in September 2023.
So much has been happening since we have been back. Year 10 have been enjoying their option choices, and many of our extracurricular activities are now up and running in their year group bubbles. Children have been signing up to these through our new epraise app. We are fortunate to have a dedicated staffing team who provide 138 extra-curricular activities throughout the year! We have also had a visit from Bedfordshire Police to tag our children’s bikes as they came in to school. Our COVID education catch up plan is well under way. We have a new online intervention programme which is providing our children with additional catch up support, including extension work for our high attainers. The children will receive online live teaching in addition to their classroom work. Staff meetings and student assemblies have been virtual and working well.
Our students are a credit to the school as we enter a time of welcoming prospective parents and children at a time when social distancing and hygiene are paramount. You may have seen that we have uploaded a new virtual map of the school to the website, please take a tour from your phone or PC, and hear from some of our staff. We intend to develop this even further over the coming weeks to enable you to explore our facilities and curriculum in more detail. Don’t forget to join us on Twitter or Facebook and keep up to date with all our developments.

Pix Brook Academy
November! Already we are thinking about the Christmas period and trying to make sure everything possible is done to make the end of the year something to remember. As always, it’s been really busy at school, that is always the case but for us more so given the constantly changing environment in which we are working.
It has been great to get to know our new pupils in school. The large group of Year 5 pupils are already settled into the routine of a new school. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they become accustomed to new people, spaces and expectations and I am delighted with their attitude and application. It has been a real shame that we have been unable to operate the number and variety of clubs and activities that we would like, although each class is still able to attend their homework club after school with their teacher and this has been really well attended. I have also been pleased that we have managed to run the Bikeability training with our Year 6 pupils. This was delayed from April when we were all locked down and is yet another small example of how the pandemic just makes everything in school just a little more complicated.
This last month has been about getting settled into our new building. This is made a little more complicated by the phased release of so much of the building. While our Key Stage 2 wing was completed in September, other areas are being released over time. At the end of September the dining hall was handed over, the first week in October the canteen was released allowing us to provide hot meals, in mid-October we took possession of the sports hall, activity hall and changing rooms. As I write, I am expecting to take possession of the phase 2 part of the building during the half term break.
Amongst all the excitement of new buildings, COVID-19 guidelines and the “business” of opening a new school, it is important to reflect on the key priority: working with young people and helping them to grow into the adults they will be.
At Pix Brook Academy, we talk about our core purpose a great deal: to educate the socially responsible citizens of the future. Included in this simple sentence we capture the essence of what we believe. That young people need to be educated so they can better understand the way they can contribute to the world and hopefully (if we can do our job well enough) make it a better place for everyone.
No small challenge but with the support of parents and the commitment of staff all at Pix Brook Academy believe that this is worth working for.
We look forward to updating you on our December news in next month’s issue of the Stotfold News Magazine.

Following the October break, the children return to school on Tuesday 3rd November with a packed half term ahead. The week starts with Jet Class Assembly on Friday 6th November. Due to COVID-19 our assemblies are now recorded and sent via a link to our parents as well as available for friends and families to view on our website on the pictures page.
Week commencing 9th November offers our Parent/Staff Consultations, although this year will again be different due to the pandemic restrictions. We are hoping to send individual reports to all of our families sharing our views on each child’s development, strengths and progress plus any areas to work on. The SMSA are also hoping to arrange a Film Night for some of our children in their school year group ‘bubbles’ and a second hand uniform sale – for further information please read our weekly newsletter for updates.
On Wednesday 11th, Wednesday 18th and Friday 20th Opal, Diamond and Coral Classes respectively will present and record their termly Assemblies to enthral us all.
Whole school flu immunisations are planned for Tuesday 17th November. Authorisation for your child will be sent via an on-line NHS link which will be sent to our families in a ParentMail shortly.
We will once again support the BBC Children In Need event planned for Friday 13th. As always, we will be inviting the children to dress up for the day to raise money for this very worthy cause! So from there we will be looking forward to December with preparations beginning for the Christmas Season!

Roecroft Lower School
Thank you for reading the Roecroft news for November. This month it is an update from our Key Stage 2 teams: In Year 3, we have had a super start to the Autumn term. All the children are settled into their new classrooms upstairs on the first floor, enjoying being back learning with their friends and getting to know their new teachers. This month, alongside English and Maths, Year 3 have started two fun new topics ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’ in History and ‘Light and Shadows’ in Science. In History, the children have learnt what prehistory is and found out how an archaeologist discovers artefacts and pieces together the past. They are looking forward to exploring how people in the Stone Age lived and creating their own Stone Age art. In Science, the children had great fun discovering what the dark is with some super questions to investigate.
Our Year 4 pupils have settled really well back into school this term. They have done really well to get back into the swing of working after such a long time off. We started the term with our Romans topic – the children have loved learning about the Roman Army, gladiators and life inside a Roman villa. In Science we have been studying solids and liquids, and have had fun melting chocolate! In English, we have been writing poetry, stories, recounts and non-fiction reports. We also started the term by continuing the Daily Mile. The Daily Mile has a simple aim – to help children get fit by running around the school playing field for 10 minutes each morning, helping to build stamina and resilience. It has been great fun so far and many of the children are beating their personal best times!

One of our biggest and most enjoyable evenings of the year is the Open Evening; this is for prospective families but is also a great opportunity for current families and members of the community to s ee the school and meet the team. This year we are having to keep everyone safe and offer this remotely, so there will be a video tour of the school available to view on the school website from the beginning of November. For prospective families we will be inviting you to group Zoom call with members of the Senior Leadership Team to help answer any questions. Wishing you all a cosy and safe November, Mrs Cross

Fairfield Park Lower School
Well the clocks have now gone backwards, nights are drawing in and winter is around the corner and Christmas is only 9 weeks away! It's been a great start to the year seeing all our children back in classes, hearing the learning and laughter filling the school. Our school community has embraced the COVID changes and we are all living school life within these new rules. At Fairfield Park, the start to the school year is a very important one: classes vote for their favourite transition topic at the end of summer term and on returning in September, they are filled with anticipation and excitement to learn about a myriad of topics. This year, topics included wizards, rainforests, spy worlds, pets and superheroes to name but a few. This approach was a super way to bring all our children back to school and re-engage them with classroom learning!
Thank you to all pupils for supporting our recent Wear Yellow Day, all monies raised will be donated to one of our chosen charities this year, ‘Young Minds’. WE are proud to announce that Fairfield Park Lower School has also recently been nominated by Inspiring Music Central Bedfordshire to become a Music Mark school for the 2020/21 academic year, in recognition for the value that FPLS place on music and our commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Just a gentle reminder that parents should now be looking at applications for reception and middle school places. To apply please do so online (web address below) the deadline for applications is 15th January 2021. If you would like to view either of our school, Dickens Boulevard or Ruskin Drive please call the school on 01462 830000 to arrange a tour. http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/school/admissions/landing.asp. Times are strange and difficult for a lot of people right now and we were heartbroken when we had a to close our beautiful shop, but obviously close contact services had to stop. Stotfold Bowls Club-Still Going Strong! Welcome to the latest news and update from Stotfold Bowls Club.
Just to let everyone know that along with all other sporting venues throughout the country, we have had to put on hold all our usual activities for 2020. We have however been able to open the club for members only, within the government guidelines, and we thought it would be good to show some of our members enjoying a friendly game in the sunshine.
Members enjoying a safe game in the sunshine
You will see some from this photograph we took on the day that we are still able to enjoy our sport safely. Despite the difficulties, we would assure all members and, would be members, that the club is still going strong, green maintained as usual and all fixtures in place for 2021.
We regret that at the present time we are unable to hold the usual social activities and crib evenings. during the winter.
Members will be kept informed of any changes to the above. In the meantime, we hope that everyone is keeping well - we look forward to much brighter times ahead. Contact: molly.jennings1@ntlworld.com.

In September the season finally got started but brought the club no joy in the FA Competitions with the 1st x1 and U18 teams going out of the FA Vase and FA Youth Cup at the first hurdle. In the league the 1st x1 have had a mixed start with a loss, a draw and a great 2-1 win against highly fancied St Panteleimon. The Development team have only played one match which was a win in the Beds Intermediate Cup 5-3 at Wilstead Reserves. The U18 midweek team played only one league game in September a 3-2 win at Newport Pagnell. The EJA teams results were U18 won 1 and lost 2, U16 won 1 drew 1 and won in the cup on penalties and U15 won both of their matches. Please see our website for all fixtures/results. If you can spare a few hours a week you would be very welcome to join our “football family”, please contact the Chairman Phil Pateman on 07825 133344 or email us on the address below. We are sad to confirm that our Fireworks Evening at our amazing new venue has been cancelled this year. Getting Organised With Petra.. My name is Petra Barrow and I’m a professional declutterer and organiser based in Stotfold. If you’ve never heard of a professional organiser, you may be wondering what we do...We work directly with clients, offering guidance, encouragement, support, strategies and practical help to organise various aspects of their homes or offices – and their lives. We offer a range of expert services including: decluttering, storage solutions, admin and paperwork, time management, coaching, design and/or home-staging.I specialise mostly in home organisation: kitchens, playrooms, garages, storage, bedrooms etc.
Here’s some examples from my clients to show the impact that having me in your home has-“I could not be more grateful to Petra. As a working mum with three little ones, my house has been a constant source of stress. Regardless of the hours I put in, chaos always prevailed… Imagine your home where everything flows, the stuff is there but in the right place, almost as if you had upgraded to a larger house with all the storage you need. It’s all in the right place, so much so that tidying up becomes easy and quick… Petra is helpful, cheerful and approachable. She has an incredible eye for order and amazing creativity on how to use space. Because of Petra, my house just flows… I was not aware of the services of an organiser and you would forgive me for thinking it was a glorified form of cleaning. It’s not, and Petra has organised our family clutter in such a way that a year on, organisation still prevails…” “I’ve worked with Petra on both my kitchen and my bedroom. Both rooms frustrated me so much I’d just given up. Especially in my bedroom, I wasn’t getting restful sleep because I felt so out of sorts and cluttered. In both sessions Petra took control without being patronising (my biggest fear) and helped me both declutter and find a system that worked. My kitchen is so very low on storage and was just a mess. I could never find what I needed. Petra helped me by asking what I used and figured out my cooking style, helped me recycle loads of old appliances and set me tasks to do once she’d left, and I did them!” I LOVE what I do, I love helping people love their homes again. As a thank you to the people of Stotfold, Fairfield and Arlesey for supporting my first 2 years in business, in honour of National Do you Organising Week (2nd-8th November 2020) I’d like to offer you own an exclusive discount with me. an My Speedy Blitz package of 3 hours - £67.50 (usual price £75) How about get your house totally ready for the influx of Christmas with my Pre Christmas Blitz package - £180 for 8 hours (£200) Please quote Stotfold News when enquiring, terms and conditions apply (see my website www.simplysortedhomes.co.uk), other packages and per hour options available. Local Riders Cycle 100k For Charity Stotfold resident Steve Parry set up the Stotfold Cycle Club during lockdown for like minded enthusiasts in and around the area. The idea was for the group to take part in for leisurely rides out in and around nearby towns and villages. Litle did Steve realise just how much of a good idea the group was as they now have over 100 members all enjoying the thrill of getting outdoors and cycling together.
Since starting the group, they have completed many rides, usually meeting up twice a week. On the 13th September the Stotfold Cycling club as they named themselves, completed a 100km chartiy ride for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Pulmonary Fibrosis is a devastating disease that causes scarring of the lungs. Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis is a growing community of patients, families, researchers and healthcare professionals striving to find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis so that everyone affected by the disease has a better future.
The ride covered 100k, throughout Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire and took the riders 4hrs and 25mins.
Stotfold Cycle Club enjoying a much needed refreshment stop!
In total, the group managed to raise a magnificent £1000.
The cyclists taking part in the ride were: Steve Parry, Keir Seymour, Tristan Mitchell, James McDonald and Ian Hooper.
To find out more information on the Stotfold Cycle Club you can contact the group though their facebook page ‘Stotfold Cycle Club’.

November Recipes-Christmas
Pud!
with Trace Buggins, Head Chef at Mount Pleasant Golf Club Hello everyone! Well, it’s that time of year when the plans for Christmas are full steam ahead , although this year will be a little bit different for us all. This month is the traditional month of Xmas pudding making , such an old tradition which has been overtaken by celebrity chefs and big supermarkets
Here I give you my grandmothers recipe which has had a few tweaks here and there (sure she wouldn’t mind) but has served me well and is still the one I make for the golf club every year. So make it a new tradition for your house ,it’s fun easy and the kids love to help .
Local chef Trace Buggins
Traditional Christmas Pudding
300 g Raisins, 250g sultanas,250g currents,300g vegetable suet,1 orange zested and juice, 1 apple, grated .175g breadcrumbs.1 carrot, grated.170g plain flour. 1/2tsp baking powder. 300g soft dark brown sugar. 4 eggs. ½ tsp salt. ½ tsp cinnamon. 1tsp mixed spice. 70 g mixed peel.100g chopped glace cherries. Good splash of brandy and rum .200ml Guinness. Method
Christmas pudding - just as Grandma used to make!
1) Combine all the ingredients and leave for 24 hours 2) Divide between the basins and cover with a cartouche of greaseproof paper. Cover with tinfoil and seal 3 )Cook in the steamer for 4-5 hours 4) Store in the fridge or cool dark place and then each week pour a little extra brandy on top and stab with a cocktail stick so it soaks 5 )On Christmas Day you can just portion up and reheat to enjoy
P.S Don’t forget everyone has four stirs with a wooden spoon clockwise , this is when you make your wishes for the following year!

News from
St Mary’sThe Parish Church of Stotfold & Fairfield
To enable more people to worship in our community’s beautiful 12th Century church in a Covid-secure environment, we are restarting our mid-week services and adding more Sunday services. On Sundays, in addition to our 10am Parish Communion Service, there is now a half-hour service starting at 9.00am which does not include Holy Communion.
On the first and third Sundays of the month at 4.00pm we hold a Tea Time Praise service for young children and their families. We have also resumed our mid-week services. A 20-minute service of Morning Prayer is held at 9.00am Monday to Saturday. A midweek service of Holy Communion is held each Wednesday at 9.45am.
Our church is also open to anyone in the parish for private prayer and reflection on Sundays from 11am to 1pm and on Wednesdays from 2pm to 6pm. These times are subject to change. Please check our website, www.stotfoldchurch.org.ukm, and the notice board outside the church for updates. You are warmly welcomed to all our services. During the service please wear a face covering and follow the social distancing guidelines which are displayed as you come into church. There are hand sanitiser stations and a sidesperson will guide you to where you can sit to allow for social distancing. You can find online versions of our services at www.stotfoldchurch.org.uk.
Important notice: changes to the Annual Memorial Service Our Annual Memorial Service is an opportunity to remember with thanksgiving our family members and friends who have died. To ensure that our service is Covid-secure we are limiting the numbers attending and this year the service will be a ticketed event. To meet social-distancing requirements in the church we have only sent invitations to those whose loved one’s funeral service has taken place through St Mary’s, either in church or at a crematorium, during 2020, 2019 and 2018. However, the service will also be livestreamed and any member of the public will be able to access the link via our website www.stotfoldchurch.org.uk As usual, the vicar will read out the names of loved ones who have died in previous years. Please telephone 730264 or email maureen.winters5@gmail.com to give the name of the deceased person you would like remembered. Candles will be lit whilst the names are read. The service will be held on 1 November at 2.00pm

The Standalone 10k Goes Virtual for 2020. Special t-shirts made for the event
As most people will know, October usually hosts the Standalone 10k, a race open to anyone and everyone that enjoys running. This year should have been the 32nd year for the Standalone 10k, however due to current guidelines and restrictions, it was not possible for the organisers to host the event for 2020.
In place of the usual road run, North Herts Road Runners organised a Virtual 10k race. The race took place between the 27th September and the 11th of October to raise money for their charity Headway. A very popular event, with over 700 entries and over ÂŁ3000 raised by the time this article went to print, entries were invited from anyone that wished to take part, with either a walk or a run on their own chosen course. Special t-shirts as pictured on the left were made for the event with some of the money made being donated to the chosen charity. North Herts Road Runners is an organisation open to runners of all abilities. Qualified coaches will help improve your running whatever your standard. To find our more abou this local group you can visit their website www.nhrr.org.uk or call Ian on 01462 63921. new members are always welcome. You can always keep up to date with the latest news on the club facebook page.
