News from Etonbury Academy

It doesn’t seem possible that we are now at the end of the Spring Term, with our Junior children approaching their final primary assessments and our Year 11s taking their GCSE examinations. Some of our Year 11s have already started their practical examinations in Hospitality and Catering, creating ‘an accompaniment for a Bistro’ . The students showed great confidence under such controlled and pressured conditions, producing dishes to a very high standard.

Etonbury Juniors immersed themselves in World Book Day. There were Harry Potters, Gangster Grannies, Where's Wallies and Matildas all running around the playground and sharing extracts of their books. In sport, the Year 10 boys made the National Schools Cup Semi Finals in football. We played Truro School (Cornwall) in the quarter finals with a great win, followed by defeat in the semi-final game against Buckswood Football Academy (Kent). There was a fantastic atmosphere with students, staff and parents on the sidelines supporting them all the way. Also in sport our Year 10 netballers finished the season undefeated, winning every game!

Further successes this month include our Vex Robotics Club have made the finals in their national competition, our Spring Term intervention programme students have graduated, and our next cohort of children have been enrolled at The Brilliant Club. This is another exciting opportunity for our students to engage in learning that will help them access some of the most competitive universities and receive expert teaching from university lecturers. The Art Department has been creating displays in the school showcasing the amazing 3D Party Animal clay models made by our students. We are looking forward to our community getting the opportunity to see this amazing work at our Art Exhibition in the Summer Term.

Our work with Early Careers Teachers has received brilliant feedback from a Quality Assurance assessment this month. We are very proud of the programme of support we provide our new teachers and welcome this recognition. Our PE Department also underwent a review and we were delighted to hear of the incredibly high standards of work being reported.

A big thank you to the volunteers of The NEED Project who supported our second hand uniform sale at their centre in Stotfold. This event highlighted to our Etonbury Community the fantastic work of this important charity, as well as enabled parents to recycle, swap and purchase the uniform. Well done to our students Izzy, Kaysie-Rose, Erin and Emma for preparing for the sale. With our growth from Primary through to GCSE firmly established, we are now looking forward to the children remaining with us into Sixth Form from September 2023. If you have moved into the area, or are looking for a new school for your child, please do get in touch as we would be delighted to welcome you for a personal tour. 01462 730391 etaoffice@bestacademies.org.uk
