Celebrating its fifth year in Longreach, Storyfest Out West continues to bring world-class literary experiences to the heart of Queensland’s outback. We are grateful for the enduring partnership of Outback Pioneers and the Longreach School of Distance Education, whose commitment and collaboration have been instrumental in the festival’s growth and success. I have had the joy of visiting Longreach as a Storyfest author and storyteller, and the warmth of the community has stayed with me. The beautiful outback, the quaint tourist attractions and the genuine friendliness of the locals made it memorable for me. I am delighted to have programmed some of Australia's finest storytellers for this year's programme. This year's line-up has something for every reader. Design your own weird animal drawing with Sami Bayly; take your story off into different directions with George Ivanof; and explore mystery and solve puzzles with Rachel Jackson. The programme features workshops, sessions designed to make young people laugh, challenge their thinking, inspire their own writing and creativity, and help them see reading and writing as a living, breathing part of their world. Parents and educators are encouraged to engage with the programme ahead of time, enjoy the festival, and purchase books to continue the conversations and extend the Storyfest experience well beyond the event itself.

festival info BOOKING INFORMATION Tickets are $10 (GST inclusive) per person per session. For adult sessions, workshops and catered functions, please refer to individual event information. Bookings can only be processed on receipt of full payment. Bookings may be made online with credit card payment. There are no refunds or exchanges once bookings are processed. All tickets are issued as e-tickets and will be sent to your designated email address. PURCHASING YOUR TICKETS Tickets will be on sale from Wednesday 17 June 2026. You may book online anytime. Many sessions have limited numbers, so please book early to avoid disappointment. SCHOOL BOOKINGS AND RESERVATION POLICY Schools can reserve their tickets via our online reservation form. Once the form is completed, tickets will be placed on hold for 14 days. Payment must be made via direct deposit or credit card within that 14 days. All payments must be finalised at least seven days prior to the Festival. PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY PERMISSIONS Storyfest will have a photographer and videographer on-site to record events throughout the Festival. These photos are for archival and marketing purposes and purchase of a ticket implies permission to use the photos taken for these purposes. Children who do not have media permissions should be seated in the back left of venues. this area will not be photographed.

FESTIVAL BOOKSHOP The Bookshop stocks an extensive range of books and is open daily between 8.00am and 4.00pm as well as during The Prologue Party. Following each session, authors are available for book signings! SUPERVISION POLICY Any child 14 years or younger must be accompanied by a supervising parent/ guardian or teacher while on campus at all times during Storyfest Out West. BAGS There is no cloakroom facility at Storyfest Out West. We encourage students to bring a small carry bag, as some venues have limited access for school bags. We advise students to leave valuables at home. All lost property can be collected from the festival bookshop. Sami Bayly is an international award winning author and illustrator who is based in Newcastle, Australia. She loves all things weird and wonderful and enjoys painting realistic flora and fauna with watercolours. Her favourite topics tend to be the ones most people like to avoid... such as 'ugly' animals, parasites, poo stories and more. After graduating in 2018 with a bachelor of Natural History Illustration (Honours), she was approached by publishers and gained her first book deal, which kick started her career in publishing. Since 2019, she has published seven books, been shortlisted for/won over 20 awards and has received 3 letters from Sir David Attenborough. www.samibayly.com

Mick Elliott is an acclaimed author, illustrator, TV producer, screenwriter and professional mischief maker whose books have been published in six international territories. His books include The Turners series, Squidge Dibley Destroys the School, Dads & Dogs, Mums & Mogs, Grandmas in Grand Cars and Mr Duckins’ Chickens. Mick has written and produced acclaimed children’s TV shows for the ABC, Paramount, the Sesame Workshop and Channel TEN. He was head of creative at Nickelodeon Australia for two decades. Jane Godwin is the highly acclaimed author of nearly fifty books for children and young people, across all styles and ages. Her work is published internationally and she has received many commendations, including the 2024 Pixie O’Harris Award for services to children’s literature. Recent publications include picture books Up Down Over Through, illustrated by Kim Drane (Hachette), Can You Teach a Fish to Climb a Tree?, illustrated by Terry Denton (Hardie Grant) and novels Look Me in the Eye and A Walk in the Dark (Hachette). Jane was the Children’s Publisher at Penguin Books Australia for over a decade where she developed, championed, and worked with many authors and illustrators. Jane has produced books for a wide range of readers, from very young children through to Young Adult and crossover titles. Rachel Jackson is a senior intelligence analyst where – just like in her books – she looks for clues, solves puzzles and explores options to help the good guys win the day. Richard Kinnon is a natural storyteller. Brought up in the outback where tales are told around the campfire, he has a wealth of yarns to share. There are stories of the early pioneers, cattle duffers and stagecoaches; stories of his own childhood growing up on a station and learning from the Indigenous ‘uncles’ who worked there; stories of building his Outback Pioneers tourism business in Longreach, which is now a multi award-winning enterprise drawing thousands of visitors each year. Liv Lorkin is a heart-led children's book author, illustrator and visual storyteller. Since packing books underneath her bed as a child, she’s loved reading, writing and colouring outside the lines. Inspired by nature, magic and a dash of whimsy, her debut graphic novel, Gnoming About: Tree Mail Adventure, was released in early 2026. Louise Park is an award-winning Australian author, educator and publisher with more than 30 years’ experience across teaching, literacy education and the publishing industry. Beginning as a primary school teacher, she specialised in English and literacy acquisition, then went on to train teachers, develop widely used reading programs, and advise schools before moving into senior publishing roles, including General Manager and Education Publisher at Scholastic Australia. She has written more than 800 titles for children and adults, under her own name and popular pseudonyms, including H. I. Larry and Mac Park. Her internationally successful series, such as Zac Power Test Drives and Boy vs Beast, are known for engaging reluctant readers. Through her writing, Louise invites readers into worlds of adventure, mystery and imagination. Her stories encourage curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of reading. CHOOSE YOUR OWN STORIES with George Ivanoff This session is all about writing interactive fiction, where the reader gets to make choices that take the story off into different directions. George will take participants through his process for writing the You Choose series. Then, with a whiteboard exercise in structure, show them how they can plan out their own interactive stories. Although there is no actual writing in the session, participants will work with George to plan out an interactive story on the whiteboard.

LET’S CREATE COMIC CHARACTERS with Mick Elliott Everyone can draw! But most of us think we are terrible at it. WRONG! In this fun and free-wheeling cartooning workshop, graphic novelist Mick Elliott encourages students to reconsider their beliefs about their drawing skills and to discover how easy it is to create a cartoon character with just a few dots and dashes. Discover how to draw characters like the cast of Mick’s smash hit graphic novel, URANUS FC - THE GREATEST GOAL IN THE GALAXY.
