Welcome back to Stories From the Road! It’s been a long cold winter and I for one can’t wait for Spring and warmer temperatures. Also, don’t forget to spring forward on Sunday morning March 11th for daylight savings time!

So, what’s in this issue? This month I decided to dedicate this month’s newsletter to Mr. Bernie Shankman. He was inducted into the South Carolina Bikers Hall of Fame on February 24th. What an awesome life this man has had so far and I’m sure he’s not done.

Central SC HOG Chapter On Saturday, February 24, 2018, members of was not only an inspiration to the biker comthe CSC HOG chapter rode down to Suck Bank munity, but also a good man who loves all. A Blow in Murrells Inlet to honor Mr. Bernie man that has gone above and beyond just Shankman's, also a member of CSC chapter, helping bikers in need, but also giving of himinduction into the South Carolina Bikers Hall self for Make a Wish charity foundation and of Fame. other events to support those in need.

This was the 5th anniversary of the SC Bikers Hall of Fame event . Mr. Bill Barber was the host for the event with musical entertainment provided by Joe Santana’s Kingfish.

I can only hope that the next few pages can show how much this man is loved by all and I wish to express my deepest gratitude for being allowed to be a part of this event with a On the next few pages, you will learn about a great bunch of riders in the chapter. man who, in my humble opinion, has lived life to the fullest while at the same time being an inspiration to all in the biker community. KSU at 11:00 and we were on our way to Suck Bang Blow. What a beautiful day it was with

perfect riding temperature and sunny skies. We head down I26 to I77 where we take a leisurely ride down 378 on our way to Manning for some awesome BBQ. We arrive at D&H around 1:00 and chow down on some great vinegar base BBQ and other fix’ns from the buffet. My belly full, I’m feeling like I need a nap, but resist the urge by walking around taking pictures of the Hoggies (not to get confused with the BBQ). After about an hour eating and getting our legs stretched, we get back in the saddle on the final leg of our journey to Suck Bank Blow. Our ride down 521 takes us into Georgetown, where we were greeted with the aroma of paper mill after products filling the air. Whew!

I might also add that the Georgetown can’t boast about the quality of there streets. Something I can confirm after hitting a few ‘wheel busters’ going threw there. We finally make it through Georgetown and continue up 17 to Murrells Inlet and Suck Bang Blow.

A brief note here. I had every intention of showing some awesome video of the ride. However, my lack of understand the battery life of my new ‘toy’ left me saddened to discover that none of that great videography would be shared with others. To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger, ‘I’ll be back!’

However, I think the most impressive thing I could have seen was the number of chairs that had been sat out for the friends of Mr. Bernie to sit during the induction ceremony.

e arrived in Murrells Inlet between 5 and 6 and unloaded our bikes to our rooms to begin a night of MLH&R for Mr. Bernie. First stop for me was Suck Bang Blow. My trips here have been during bike week where the crowds were larger and the premises packed with motorcycles of every distinction. It took

o you remember the days when ‘ you would attend a concert of Mr. Bernie's over 75 years in the saddle inyour favorite musician and have to sit through clude some very impressive achievements. He's been on about every bike magazine cover there is and we are so proud to claim him as our customer and friend! Mr. Bernie will be celebrating his 95th birthday this June, still lives to ride and arrives everywhere with that precious smile and wonderful heart. ‘ One of my favorite credits to his life was a time he got into a race with two Cadillacs while traveling from the west coast to the east coast. What memories this man must have. I can only dream about a life such as this. I had the pleasure of seeing him ride as the flag bearer for the Patriot Tour/Nation of Patriots. We rode from Harley Haven to Conyers, Ga.

Mr. Bernie Finally, the time had come for Mr. Bernie to be inducted. Cheers and applause filled the room as he made has way to the microphone. Mr. Barber introduced him again lamenting his life and accomplished and present him a South Carolina Bikers Hall of Fame patch and plaque.

Mr. Bernie then thanked everyone for their kindness and love and went on to say how honored he was to be inducted into the South Carolina Bikers Hall of Fame. In closing, he said that he had traveled from California to Washington, DC and had never met a biker he didn’t consider a friend. Much love, honor and respect to you Mr. Bernie Shankman. I’m looking forward to riding with you again.
