North Central Baptist Hospital expands its commitment to women and children’s health Fragile newborns and premature infants have a new place to heal and grow at North Central Baptist Hospital. As part of a $60 million, six floor tower expansion, the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a state-of-the-art addition with 60 beds with 24 private rooms.

patients. The Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology (AYA) Unit is designed to meet the particular needs of patients in the 17 to 25-year-old age group. The new floor will consist of 28 private rooms, eight of which have a dormitory room feel dedicated to the AYA Unit. The young people undergoing treatment will have access to a media room, snacks and other homey comforts to make their two to six week stay more comfortable.

The AYA unit is the first of its kind in San Antonio and South Texas to cater to this age group. It’s designed to fill the gap between pediatric oncology and adult cancer care. The idea is to meet the psychological and physical needs of this unique patient population.
