A routine trip to the groomer often leads to exhausted, stressed out pets and owners. But as all dog owners know, grooming is necessary to ensure the health and comfort of a dog as well as to reduce shedding on carpets and furniture. As one of the owners of Happy Hound, Anne Marie Flyckt helped find a solution to this problem when she started the company seven years ago.

Happy Hound is a full service mobile grooming salon in San Antonio that operates from a self contained, fully equipped van, customized to provide complete grooming service that every pet deserves.

Combining flexibility, ease and the latest pet grooming technology, these mobile salons require nothing more than a place to park.

“It’s a professional pet salon right in your driveway,” Flyckt said. “The best part is the pets are not sitting in cages all day at the groomer.”

Every groomer at Happy Hound is skilled in professional techniques for cats and dogs. They understand the particular grooming needs of different breeds and are able to give each furry friend proper care since they only work with one animal at a time. “All sizes and breeds of dogs and cats are accepted and the owner’s needs will be carefully considered in how to groom each pet,” Flyckt said.

Each van is custom designed with air conditioning, heat, electricity and water.

It does not rely on any outside electrical or water hookups and the water is clean and fresh.

Not every pet loves to be groomed. For that reason, Flyckt recommends having pets groomed early and often to get them used to the process. She also suggests combing and brushing pets in between grooming sessions in order to maintain a good and healthy coat. However, if a dog has a matted coat it is better to leave it to the professionals. “If you remove the mats by force, the dog begins to hate being groomed and will become stressed and irritated,” Flyckt said.

Happy Hound uses environmentally friendly products and brings a highly organized, professional approach to mobile grooming. At Happy Hound, the grooming process includes bath, blow drying, brushing, nails, pads, hygiene clip, ears and breed cut. Fluff drying blows out the pet’s excess coat and dead skin giving the groom a longer lasting finish. Teeth brushing, flea treatments, skunk purification, and anal gland expression are also available with grooming services. Grooming takes about an hour for each animal.

“During this time of year, summer cuts are very popular among pet owners,” Flyckt said. “This involves shaving the animal’s hair down completely so he/she may feel cool & comfortable during the summer months when the heat is at its worst.”
