Before coming into the shop, gather your old jewellery that you are considering remodelling. This can include broken pieces, old chains and items that you haven’t worn for years. We are open Monday – Saturday and the good news is that there is no charge for your remodelling consultation.
Sometimes designs can be confirmed on the spot and, on other occasions, we’ll need to sketch and firm up on design details.
We’ll show you samples and drawings and discuss ideas with you.
Our in-house goldsmiths take 6 – 8 weeks to work their wonderful magic.
We handcraft – once the design and quote are confirmed and the 20% deposit paid, we get to work in our in-house workshop.
You enjoy - drop in and collect your beautifully remodelled new piece of contemporary jewellery!
We are all increasingly conscious of what we purchase and how it is produced. When remodelling your old jewellery, you are actively choosing the most sustainable option – embracing and enjoying materials that you already own.
Let us give your old jewellery the attention it deserves!
As we want to have enough time to discuss redesigning your old jewellery, remodelling consultations are by appointment only.
Before coming into the shop, gather your old jewellery that you are considering remodelling. This can include broken pieces, old chains and items that you haven’t worn for years.
It is also worth thinking about what you would like, and what you would get most wear from – would you like a new ring? Or have you always wanted a pared back gold bangle? You can browse our gallery of images for ideas and inspiration.
If a photo you’ve seen online has caught your eye, that will be helpful as an initial idea, although we don’t copy other makers’ designs. And please don’t worry if you don’t have any thoughts at all – we’ll be happy to go through options with you when we meet in person!
Also, consider what approximate budget you have in mind – this will help us in relation to possibilities for your new piece of jewellery.
We love talking about and looking at jewellery! At the beginning of your consultation we will examine your stones and weigh your gold before discussing design options.
We will ask you what ideas you have in mind, listen to your thoughts and then we will start to discuss the possibilities – this is where our wealth of knowledge and design expertise really comes into play!
We will show you sample pieces, which you can try on, and look through relevant images in our extensive library of sketches and photos in order to clarify design details.
Don’t worry if you are unsure of what you would like before coming into us. We will break down design elements and ask all the right questions so that we can work out the perfect piece for you.
Quite often designs and quotes can be worked out on the spot, which is great!
On other occasions, we will take note of all the details discussed and come back to you by email with a sketch or a Computer Aided Design (CAD) to make sure that you are happy with all aspects of the design. This adds a few extra steps to the design process, but we definitely think it’s worth taking the time to get everything right!
All design work will be done bearing in mind your budget which is why it is very helpful to have a feeling for what you are considering.
Sometimes, once an order has been confirmed and the deposit paid, we make a wax model of your piece of jewellery to finalise exact design details and so that you can try it on.
If, at this stage, any minor design changes need to be made, this can be done.
As each remodelling project is different, it is important to take the time to quote on a case-by-case basis.
Prices start from €250, and many customers spend between €700 and €1500, while other spend more, depending on the complexity of the details involved.
We always aim to work within a customer’s budget so please do let us know what you have in mind and we’ll be able to advise you as to what is possible, keeping within the structure of your budget and the context of the old jewellery you have.
This is where the real fun starts!
Let us show you how old jewellery can be completely transformed into contemporary new pieces. Browse a small selection of remodelling projects here and also follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see our very popular weekly Transformation Tuesday posts!

Remodelling old jewellery is a very lovely creative process, and it’s also very detailed, so let us answer some key questions you may have…
Remodelling makes sense on so many levels –sentimental value, economics and sustainability.
On the rare occasion that a remodelled piece would cost more than buying a piece handcrafted from new materials, we will discuss the various quotes with you so you can take an informed decision.
Most people are amazed at what can be created from bits and pieces of old jewellery, and we love seeing how thrilled our customers are with the final results!
Remodelling consultations are by appointment only and can be booked here:
We are open Monday – Saturday and the good news is that there is no charge for your remodelling consultation.
Once the order is confirmed and the 20% deposit paid, our highly trained goldsmiths will get to work. The lead time is generally 6 – 8 weeks.
Yellow gold and rose gold can be melted down and reused. Different carats of gold can be mixed so, for example, we can melt a 9ct rose gold ring with an 18ct gold earring.
Unfortunately, we don’t melt platinum or white gold, but they can be traded in. See more details on this below. Silver can be melted down, but it may make more economic sense to handcraft the new piece from new silver.
We don’t re-cut diamonds or coloured gemstones. Instead, we will discuss options that are guided by the shape and size of any stones that you have.
Should you choose to leave your old jewellery with us, please be assured that it is in good hands! We will email you a receipt which itemises the pieces of old jewellery left with us as well as summarising the designs discussed. While your pieces are with us, they will be in our safe and are covered by our insurance.
We require a 20% deposit to confirm an order and the balance is payable on collection.
We are very careful when working with your metals, gemstones and diamonds, and treat them with the utmost respect. That said, unfortunately there is always a risk involved in using / re-setting stones. When they are your diamonds and gemstones, this risk is yours.
We will keep you informed of any issues if, as and when they become apparent, as it is not possible to fully examine a diamond or gemstone until it has been removed from the metal it was originally set in. While we will take full responsibility for diamonds and gemstones sourced by us, we’re sure you understand we cannot be held responsible for damage, breakages or chips in your diamonds or gemstones, or for replacing such items free of charge.
Any excess gold can be traded in and used as part payment for your remodelled jewellery. Once the work is complete, we’ll be able to confirm the exact trade in value of any excess gold and you can choose if you’d like to trade it in or keep it.
Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to trade in unused old stones so these will be returned to you when the work is finished.
Absolutely! Stonechat Jewellers gift vouchers can be used for any remodelling project.
We hope you love your new jewellery – we really enjoy handcrafting each and every piece for our customers!
It is highly unlikely that your jewellery won’t be what you were expecting as we go to great lengths during the design process to ensure that you like every aspect of the design before any making starts. We are highly skilled in remodelling old jewellery, and we have a wealth of experience in showing designs in a way that will help you to visualise the final piece before it is made.
That said, if you don’t like the end result, we wouldn’t leave you high and dry! No one walks out of Stonechat Jewellers unhappy so we would do everything possible to change or remake the piece so that you are completely happy with it.
We will be happy to provide a valuation for any remodelled piece of jewellery that has a value in excess of €1000. This will allow you to list your new jewellery on the contents insurance at home.
We require a 20% deposit to confirm an order. After that, you can pay for your jewellery at a time that suits you. Some customers can’t wait to collect their new piece, while others prefer to pay bit by bit and collect a few months later.
