New build sustainability playbook
If you’re weighing up a new build for your next move, the sustainability features we incorporate into our developments can cut bills, lift comfort and future proof your home. Several of our schemes across Yorkshire, the North-East and the Midlands offer a clear view of what this looks like: fabric first efficiency, sustainable technology, and landscape design that respects ecology. In our playbook you’ll find a generic, yet practical, family friendly guide to the key elements we incorporate into our homes. 1) FABRIC FIRST EFFICIENCY: INSULATION, GLAZING, AIRTIGHTNESS Our new builds typically achieve an EPC rating of B or above which is much higher than older homes because of modern insulation, high performance glazing and improved building controls, often translating to materially lower running costs compared with second hand properties. Our specification focuses on high efficiency building fabric and sustainable technology to help reduce energy usage and costs. 2) ON SITE RENEWABLES: SOLAR PV (PLUS DIVERTERS & BATTERIES) The majority of our developments have solar panels and solar diverters as standard, helping households generate electricity and reduce dependence on the grid. 3) LOW CARBON HEATING: AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS (ASHP) On some developments we incorporate ASHPs instead of fossil fuel boilers. An ASHP draws ambient heat from outside air and can deliver significant emissions cuts when paired with good insulation. All properties at The Paddocks (shown above) include air source heat pumps, setting a clear benchmark for family homes with modern comfort and lower carbon emissions.
